Agent Harrier must discover the identity of a top-secret file-stealing traitor in the BARK intelligence agency. But something’s happening to the book itself . . . whole pages are repeating, and there’s an ink-deleting weapon threating to wipe everything out! What’s going on? And will Agent Harrier sniff out the rat before he’s TOTALLY AND PERMANENTLY ERASED?
This stylish graphic novel is a funny, punny twist on the traditional spy caper. The second instalment of the Agent Harrier series by award-winning illustrator Ben Sanders (Clive Penguin), featuring books that can be enjoyed in any order. Perfect for readers transitioning from picture books!
You Only Spy Twice by Ben Sanders is the second children’s humorous graphic novel in the Agent Harrier series. I haven’t read the first book but I presume given I understood it perfectly that it is fine to read it as a standalone.
The plot revolves around a dog spy, a James Bond wannabe. He loves his gadgets and wants fantastical ones like an all-star car, though that isn’t quite what he gets.
His mission this time is to find a traitor in the BARK intelligence agency but he and you will have a time finding them given that they have an ink-deleting weapon and they are using it within this book.
I love the premise of You Only Spy Twice. I even love the James Bond-esq title and cover. The plot itself was amusing and entertaining, however, I found it hard to read at times as the blue colour (same as the front cover) with black italic-style writing caused me visual stress. There is also a lot of text within, more than I expected from a children’s graphic novel.
Overall, this book could have been a real hit but I think the colours have not been chosen wisely, and as such some children will struggle with it.
When I first picked this book I immediately in my mind knew what children at school would love this.. But I knew I needed to read it first. Agent Harrier must discover the identity of a top-secret file-stealing traitor in the BARK intelligence agency. But something’s happening to the book itself . . . whole pages are repeating, and there’s an ink-deleting weapon threatening to wipe everything out! What’s going on? And will Agent Harrier sniff out the rat before he’s TOTALLY AND PERMANENTLY ERASED? The book was just so much fun to read, there is action on every page, And the pace of the book is fast. Even though the book is only about 72 pages long ,it’s enough for a whole story. And even the most reluctant reader will like this. Hoping there is more to come.
This is a real fun graphic novel series (I’ve got the 3rd one to read next). Its witty and its clever. Agent Harrier must foil the bad guy, but someone unexpected turns up! Really enjoyed this one.
😍 More 4th wall breaking and puns. So many of those. It just transformed the book into something alive. 😍 The title (Twice and the mirror of it Mice) pointing to two plot things in the story which was just so clever and I loved it. 😍 The cars, which I both want btw. The sports car is pretty nice for some events, but the other one is handy for groceries or day to day stuff. And if someone is in the way, well it has some fun features to help out with that. 😍 The Clone. Though I was laughing my butt off that it took them so long to figure things out. I loved what happened to the Clone and also see him take a bigger role. 😍 That correction fluid is a big enemy, which is again another fourth wall thing and it just made laugh. 😍 The lair in the middle of the centre of the book. That was such a clever one! 😍 Patsy is back! And also back to narrating, kicking ass, and being an amazing character. 😍 Spy-KEA. Including big instruction manuals and allen keys. Now I want to go to Spy-KEA. 😍 The art! This time black/white/blue!
All in all, I really really want the next book in the series. Or heck, a whole series! I would highly recommend this series if you love spies, humour, fourth wall breaking, and great art!
