This was a great installment for the series. It didn't progress the plot by leaps and bounds, but it gave exactly what I enjoy most with the series. There are some excellent moments where the pecking order is established and people are put in their place. A new group of characters is introduced, but many established characters are along for the ride so it was easier to stay invested.

Honestly, most of the fun in this book for me came from the developing interactions between the fire dragons and Blackie, the scylla. The rivalry and bantering between these characters provide some great comic relief to balance out some of the sad nostalgia moments as Lark visits another of his disciples' tombs.

This series makes for fun and quick reading between other more dense reads or as a nice rebound read after floundering through a dud.

A good addition to the series. At this point there isn't much I can say about the series. If you like the previous ones, you will like this one.

If the side stories in this book told me one thing, it's that I miss the days of Lark being in Blackstone Town, focusing on its success. That was when this series shone brightest for two primary reasons:

1. It told a non-traditional fantasy story focusing on the wonder of magic more than war.

2. Lark played a more significant role, whereas now he is almost a secondary character.

I still enjoy this series for its easy-reading style, but since the start of the demon war, the scope has escalated beyond what these charming little books can handle. It has created unfocused stories with too many characters and plot threads for a series like this.

These problems culminate in a book that feels shallow despite many enjoyable moments. With the introduction of yet more new characters, plot threads, and world-building that require further exploration, I don't understand how the author thinks he is in the final stage of his story. I get the frightening feeling that he will continue expanding his story and diluting its impact.

I think the opposite needs to happen. Plot threads need to be tied off, story arcs closed out, and the story's scope shrunk to something more manageable. I'd be thrilled to see an end to the demon war completely and see Lark back in Blackstone town, focusing on building a better life for his subjects and concentrating on improving magic beyond his previous mastery of it for the betterment of the world. For me, that was where this series's strength lies, and it would be good to return to it.

For now, though, this was enjoyable enough for a 3-star rating, but the series is starting to buckle under its own weight.

This short novel is full of the sort of side stories that add context to the main plot. That is to say, there is almost nothing of substance here. I'm reaching the end of my enthusiasm for this series.

Awesome Stuff

This story of an Archmage taking over a body of a Noble brat who died a few hundred years after his death was fantastic.
In this book we learn the demon invasion will continue in a few years to let the King get stronger to be a better challenge for the Demon Lord.

I didn’t really like this one either. Mainly bc my favorite instalments of the series are when Lark is in Blackstone City or the capital improving his territory and whatnot

Otherwise I find the other stories and characters to be over the top and not really in a good way for me. Like the tensions between the dragons and the Scylla seem childish. Idk whether to take them seriously or if the author is trying to inject humor in the story. Either way not a fan

overall pretty good but I’m getting sick of all the bowing and scraping

I enjoy this story a lot and have been following it for awhile. The sucking up to leaders and other Anime tropes have been bugging me for awhile but have peaked in this book. Love the story and can’t wait to see what happens next but I do hope to see less of that because it becomes very Cringy after a bit.

Lost 2 stars for NOT writing a Recap. I think every reader needs to start doing this to force writers to write a quick Recap chapter, which readers can skip if they remember, and those who don't won't stop reading the series.

Subpar

I've enjoyed this series despite the dialogue being....odd. This particular installment was a little disappointing though. A lot of nothing happened. It just feels incomplete. Hoping the author finds his mojo again.

This series is very satisfying to me, like a hug or a cup of hot chocolate. It gives me the vibes of a chill Isekai anime, just without the contrivances and plot devices because it's well conceived and written. Each novel is modestly sized, like an episode of anime. They might not always have overall arc plot movement, but they all have their own natural story arc, no filler.

The gist of it is basically this: what if we took the elements of fun and lighthearted Isekai manga/anime series that resonate with readers and audiences and gave them a Western novelization? I especially love the kingdom-building element, with a nod of earnest thanks to the author for keeping us updated on that despite our MC being outside of his kingdom for this novel.

I'm all about our MC, too. He's still somewhat mysterious, as we don't fully know his motivations in his prior life for instigating the events that led him to have this life. But that will play out down the line as good writers do. Mostly though, I love his morality, his code, the way he handles himself, and the way he lets his followers and allies be themselves, only stepping in when absolutely necessary. I guess I'm just trying to say he's not a one-dimensional justice-dispensing robot, not a murder-hobo. He's wise in how he uses his gifts. He's noble in his intentions. That's a recipe for a guy who cultivates the kind of following he's getting; it's not contrived.

If you had to twist my arm about a gripe, it would be that the author's use of commas is... let's say confounding at times. I don't claim to be any master grammatical scholar, but I know too many commas when I see them. Use AI tools. They’ve gotten really good at editing. Don’t rely on word processor software for that stuff. But that’s such a minor thing. Commas are easy to tune out when you speed read.

I want to encourage the author that this is a great story, well told. I don’t give out five stars that often. Remember that fantasy is a genre that is a large umbrella. There are so many sub genres and niches within each of those that cater to a myriad of tastes out there. Many readers simply don’t have the self-awareness to understand this, and so when they read something and let’s say there’s not a lot of fighting, they write a bad review. That’s not fair, but it is what it is. You can’t cater to everyone’s tastes or their unrealistic expectations that every book they read checks all their boxes.

I try to appreciate books for doing what they do well. I criticize them for things like contrivances and plot devices, filler novels, lacking logical or rational consistency, and so on. Hint: there’s a lot of so on!

Salve for Burnout!

You are an incredible writer, and I realize that you also juggle a firm career atop these wonderful books. I also see you're giving more slice-of-life to your stories. I personally don't mind. Though the great wars and tragedies certainly stand out, it is the innovations and adaptations Lark brings back to this fallen future that have been the most fun of all for me as your reader. Your cast of characters are also top notch. Perhaps there's a salve in that.

Marching the big conflicts out is something we are all likely to be salivating over, but it's your cast and world we are invested in. You could try to focus back on expanding and enlivening your characters. Give them their due. Warm them up and remember them. Focus on them. Then work on wrapping that together with your world and your story. This very heart, could again rise to be a bouyie to you through the very life and essence of your precious creations.

Don't stress or concern yourself about finishing the series before you loose the thread. Back to basics my friend (so-to-speak), and light up your world! Enjoy creating new spells, inventions, creative answers to problems, figuring out histories, aiding people who no one else can...the big stuff will get done. Enjoy your characters and lands and their smarts and quirks now!

With Regard, A Dedicated Legend of the Arch Magus Devotee

OP MC with maturity and reason?

Reincarnated and righting all the wrongs while regaining strength and power. This series is one of my favorites because I love an MC who has hope for humanity while trying to do the right thing with what's in his grasp. That means also sometimes letting people step up and fight for themselves. In this adventure, Arch Magus Evander Alistair finds himself in a new body many years after his death. Lark Marcus is a scoundrel of a noble with a well deserved bad reputation so when Evander finds himself in this body he must work against the deeds of the past. He has to grow his body and magic strength, political power, the survivability, and financial strength of his lands and people. All while overcoming slippery merchants, invading armies, plagues, hostile nobles, secret organizations, war, royal recruitment and engagements, killer envoys, demon hordes, and a world which has lost vast magic knowledge and means of civic affairs. Yes to isekai/rebirth, learning magic expansion, waging battles 1 on 1 to epic, building infrastructure to advance your town and country. Please continue the series there are so many more possibilities for Evander to be apart of.

Amazing book

Another amazing book keep writing them this story is very good the characters are fun to read about and the interactions they have are funny and feels good to read. This series is one of my favorites if you ever end the series please make another story similar the beginning was great I love reading about a character who has all the knowledge he needs to become op and protect everyone building up a small town into a city winning impossible fights making awesome alliances and to top it off the side characters are all perfect in my opinion. This is what a fantasy book is all about the un real and impossible being possible. It just a good book to read for magic, fighting, and dragons.

Another good installment

The tale of Evander/King Lark continues, I enjoy the characters and playful writing style, and I am happy to hear Mr. Sisa has decided to continue to bring the series to a proper conclusion.

I am hopeful it will conclude with Evander seeing his life resolve both pre - and post reincarnation storyline and end with the Demon conflict resolved.

Nothing is worse than a good long series unfinished and unresolved. You mentioned writers burnout in your afterward, I wish you nothing but success, Michael Sisa. Take breaks as necessary. Waiting a bit longer is far preferable to an unfinished series.

Exciting

I've read all the books on this series over the last couple of days and enjoyed it. I like how OP Lark is and how zany his followers are. That said, there are quite a few loose ends and it's odd how Lark continues to act like an old old man in a young body. He is half stuck in the past, missing his disciples, while at the same time he is planning for the world's future against the demons without planning for his future. It's almost as if he thinks he was only alive again to fight the demons. This attitude hampers his growth a bit and makes it harder to see where this story is going.

Please continue this series

I know I'm probably months late since I see the next book in my recommended list, but this is a truly good series you have here and there are so many little loose ends left to tie up. I hope you find the drive to give thisbseries the ending it deserves and not a rushed conclusion. I love what I've read so far, even though I could slightly feel your lost drive for it in these last two books. Regardless of that, it is still one of the best adventure stories I've read in a decade. Dont give up sir! I'll be buying the entire series if it ends well, and that's a promise ok? Keep going for your fans!

need the next one now

Understandable a writer might have burnout but you need to just fight through it bc people have needs that are in your hands. Of course Jesus Christ is our real need, but when we are not spending time with Him in our spirit, we need something to keep us out of trouble and books that are not as elite as these. So, it’s not about you, you owe the readers! And bring in the love interest finally! Romance is not bad when kept in context of the story and what is needed behind closed doors.

Keep up the awesome work

I'm so glad you continue to write this series. It's so fun and I always drop whatever I'm reading to jump on your books when you release them! Please keep going!

I know burnout is real and you have to do what is right for you, but I hope you don't give up on this. The story you've written is so compelling that I ( selfishly) crave more!

Thanks again for your hard work!

To everyone else, please check out this series. It's great and it deserves your time.

another excellent book in the series

My hat is off to the author who is pushing through his intermittent burnout. An excellent book even though we had to wait a long time for it. The story was good and it didn’t turn out like I thought it would. That’s what made it excellent for me. my regards to the author, take your time, This book was worth waiting for. And I am glad that you have decided to continue the story. But you have to do you first, we as readers can wait. Another good book in the series.

Love the series

This is a fun story. I am looking forward to seeing where you take it. I am most excited to see lark and the demon lord go at it as a big climactic end to the series. The way that the demon Lord decided to give lark time was a really cool twist I didn't see coming. You should definitely do one or two more books to finish the series. Lark regaining his previous strength and battling the demon Lord is going to be awesome. How you chose to have it play out is going to be great to see. You have written some really great books thank you for all your hard work.

A new kingdom with its own problems

Just like the previous installments in the series, the Rwpublic of Everfrost has its own problems. However, with his position, Lark is unable to help new weaker allies to exact their just revenge. He has to look at the bigger picture. I particularly enjoyed the little short stories at the end of all our favorite smaller characters from previous books.

Another interesting read

Have really enjoyed this series and I look forward to reading any new material. This particular volume was a little short and seems to be a transition from something to something. Still not sure what. It was missing all the action and adventure found in the books and while Interesting it lacked depth. The introduction of the two main characters at the end left a big hole in the book. I look forward to reading his next releases in this series.

love! love! this story

Series-wise…great story telling , love all the characters, and I am one of the reader anxiously awaiting for the next book. I can’t wait for the next book going to the dwarven land. I am happy with this book introduction to Everfrost, though I personally would love read more if the Zenith gets their revenge and how. As well as characters and events introduced but no closures. No matter, I still enjoy being with Lark and his journey.

I truly enjoyed this series. I liked spending time with the characters and want to know what happens next. I appreciate characters that strive to tread the high road and care about the lives of others. I hope that you continue to write about this world and these people. Thank you for providing quality entertainment during my down time.

pretty good

Not gonna lie, I did enjoy the book, but I enjoyed the previous books more because they had a lot more action in them. One thing that I personally enjoyed was the glimpses of the lives of the side characters. Evander/Lark has been and always will be the main guy, but it’s great to see what the other characters are doing and what life is now like for the other characters he’s interacted with. Can’t wait to read the next installment.

more to come!

I’m so glad this isn’t the end of the series like originally intended. I absolutely adore all the characters in this series and all their little quirks. Especially Blackie, his antics always make me giggle. I loved the added addition of bonus chapters at the end to catch up on the other characters as well. I can’t wait to see where this story will go and I’ll be sad once it’s all over.

Great Book

I love this series. It’s such a fun read. I especially love Lark. He’s so easygoing and doesn’t take advantage of his power. I am not a fan on the dragons or blackie. They’re both so irritating with the way they treat the other races but I do understand the need for them to be there. I am so glad you decided to continue the series because I am extremely interested in seeing how the story progresses. Can’t wait to start the next book!!

Cute stories at the end. Love it.

Please continue writing. I devour your work. It's like potato chips or something that is hard to stop consuming. Burnout is real in any aspect of life, so take your time and find your inspiration. People like me love your books. In life, making even just one person experience emotion through your hard work and effort is worth the hardship and struggle.
