Fate paired me with the one she-wolf I could never trust. Five years ago, my beautiful neighbor Carlotta betrayed me. My family was destroyed. Because of her, the pack banished my father, relegating me and my mom with a lowered status, barely able to scrape by.
Carlotta left town before I found out why she did it. Before I had the chance to make her pay. But now she’s back. She hasn’t changed much, but I have. I’m twice her size now. Far more dominant. And I just discovered she belongs to me. Which means Carlotta James is completely at my mercy. And I do intend to make her beg.

This was my first book in this series so this can be read as a stand-alone but since reading this I have gone back and read the first four and as a shifter romance lover this series is my favorite I’ve read so far! The chemistry between Lotta and Asher is so hot the push and pull makes for one angsty read and I devoured it! Definitely spicy and filled with a epic background story I absolutely loved it!.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Carlotta never wanted to come back to Wolf Ridge in Arizona. Suppressing her wolf during full moons for 4 years has taken a toll on her and when she can’t find good work after college in Chicago, she has to come back to Wolf Ridge High School as a substitute art teacher.
Asher Martin can’t stand his art teacher. 5 years ago when he was 13 and struggling in school, Carlotta James came and helped him get his grades back up. But she also had his abusive father banned from the pack after Asher told her a secret in confidence.
Now that she’s back, he can’t get her smell out of his nose. Something is different. And his wolf is trying to tell him something…
I don’t know the exact age difference, but it felt a bit weird to me. Other than that, there was immediate chemistry between Asher and Lotta and the book is 80% smut and the last few chapters actually have a plot with talking and understanding and justification towards Asher.
I have not read any of the other Wolf Ridge High books, so I don’t know who the other mated Wolves are.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is book 5 in the Wolf Ridge High series and my 1st read in the series. Even if it's technically a standalone, I had a bit of a struggle to understand where all those characters and back stories come from. So I recommend to start at the beginning of the series, I'll do it soon myself because I really want to learn more about that universe. Asher and Carlotta have a bad history and discovering that they are fate mates is more than challenging. The teacher/student situation made me feel a bit uncomfortable but the author's writing is really good and I needed to see this couple get their HEA.
Amazing addition to the Wolf Ridge series. Can easily be read as a stand alone. Asher and Lotta are at odds with one another from a past very hurtful incident. There are many reasons they should not be together. Yet chemistry over rules most of their decisions. Dominant Alpha Asher is hot! And Alpha Asher wants Lotta! Love this couple!
It didn't start out sweet but the ending, oh my.. a great story. A great series. Love the alphas n the women they love. This author is great with all her books but this series is really wonderful. If you like shifter romance, You won't be disappointed . If course HEAs
This is the first book I have read in this series, and I enjoyed the intensity between the two main characters. It is a lover-shifter romance between Charlotte, an art teacher, and Asher, a student at Wolf Ridge High. I found it unusual for a teacher and a student to have a relationship, particularly one that was so highly charged and had a poor outcome for both of them if they were discovered. This story was about healing, personal growth, confronting fears, and forgiveness. I hoped for a happy outcome but wondered how the author would make this happen in the face of so much resentment and rage on Asher’s part; over time, his need to protect Lottie overtook his need to punish her, especially when he discovered she was his mate.
Lottie was Asher’s tutor when he was 13 years old, but she betrayed his trust by passing on information that saw his father banished from the pack, making him full of rage and resentful. Now that she has returned, he was determined to make her life miserable and make her suffer as he had.
After an incident, Charlotte left Wolf Ridge to go to college and now has no option but to return to earn a living as an art teacher. Lottie was vulnerable, and fate was a fickle master when she realized that Asher was a student in her art class. Worse, she realized that he was her fated mate. Charlotte had suppressed her wolf for the last four years, and she was like a ticking bomb that could not stop the inevitable searing connection with Asher, her mate.
I admired how Charlotte grew a backbone and took on the council in Asher’s defense. In exchange, Asher could let go of all of his pent-up resentment. Despite the age difference, Asher was your typical dominant Alpha. He was overprotective of Charlotte, which was sometimes detrimental for both. The connection between this couple was searing, and the sexual chemistry was explosive.

“I love you. That’s the thought that pops in my head, which is an utter lie. I don’t love her. I hate her.”
(ENG) This is the sixth book in the series, and if there's one thing this author excels at, it's showing how her characters go from hating each other to falling in love. While fate plays a part, we also see a breaking point and how they come to terms with their feelings and start to build a relationship. I really liked Lotta's character and her determination. She has clear goals and is determined to achieve them. Asher is the typical alpha male we read about in this series. He's dominant but also shows a caring side that is really endearing. There's plenty of smut in the story, but it doesn't overshadow the plot, which is a good thing. I really enjoyed reading this!
“I fucking know what you need. I’m your goddamn mate.”
I recently finished Alpha Varsity by Renee Rose, and I have to say, it was a captivating read that kept me hooked from start to finish. As the fifth installment in the Wolf Ridge High series, it certainly lived up to my expectations!
The story centers around Lotta and Asher, whose once-close friendship has turned into a bitter rivalry due to a past betrayal that affected their families. I found the enemies-to-lovers trope incredibly engaging, and the tension between them was palpable. Watching their relationship evolve from animosity to something deeper was both thrilling and satisfying.
What I appreciated most was how well-developed both Lotta and Asher were. Lotta's journey from being seen as a traitor to someone fighting for redemption really resonated with me. Asher's struggle with his feelings added another layer of complexity to the story. Their chemistry was undeniable, and I loved seeing how they navigated their shared history while trying to find common ground.
Renee Rose has a fantastic writing style that draws you in. The dialogue felt natural, and the pacing was just right—balancing moments of tension with emotional depth. I found myself fully immersed in their world, eagerly turning the pages to see what would happen next.
Overall, Alpha Varsity is a strong addition to the series and a must-read for fans of young adult paranormal romance. While some elements felt familiar, the unique characters and emotional stakes kept me invested throughout. I’d definitely rate this book four stars for its engaging plot and character dynamics that lingered with me long after I finished reading.
Loved every minute of this story, its better than the last one and I didn't think another could out do that one. Love-hate is a fine line and when you bring taboo of a teacher and a student but thankfully there is only 4 years difference and plus, they have a history overpowers the taboo-ness.
Asher, 18 and a senior in high school, linebacker for the football team, pack's rebel without a cause due to his father's banishment when he was 13-14 years old. His first crush was his tutor, Carlotta James, pack princess since her mom is on the pack council, was also his friend and told secrets to that caused his life to change and hate to live where friendship for her once was. We start in this book a little bit of time after the last story, Abe & Lauren's, same year but days later, since Abe told Asher about Lauren and her twin are part bear. They have a new substitute art teacher and Asher will make her life hell but he can't do much since he knows that the 22-year-old nemesis is his fate mate, Carlotta James. Carlotta didn't want to teach let alone come back to her hometown and be under her parents that caused her to be in the situation she is in now. Broke and trying to find a way to get her art out there in the world, and keep her wolf repressed as long as possible. Well first full moon back her wolf escaped her control and well little did she know her student made her night until she discovered the truth. Asher and Carlotta tried their hardest to fight this match but how long will that be before nature takes over???
Another fantastic addition to this Wolf Ridge High series - a forbidden / reverse age-gap / bully / student-teacher hot and spicy read!
Carlotta left home in Wolf Ridge to pursue her art career, determined to prove her parents wrong - back home she was a Princess with her mother on the council, away they cut her off and made her fend for herself. For years she had to suppress her wolf, it made her sick, but she persevered. Now she is back home, teaching art back at her local school....
Asher's father got banished from the pack when he was a teenager, all because he trusted the girl who was helping him with his schoolwork, now she's back, working as his art teacher, but things have changed and he has grown up, he hates her for what she did and can't wait to get his revenge - but there's something different about her that is making his wolf sit up and take notice!
A fab read, these two have fantastic chemistry - Lotta is unable to resist the call to shift when the full moon calls to her, the wolf taking over for the first time in years. She can't resist the submission to Asher, who can't believe fate has paired him with the girl that betrayed his family! Asher is full of protective instincts and really cares about Lotta when he eventually realises he doesn't hate her at all. Loved how their characters learned to love one another, about their deep connection with their wolves through Lotta's art. Hot and steamy scenes with these two, as well as some emotional ones. A great read from start to finish!
This is an enemies-to-lovers, student-teacher, forbidden romance and I loved every minute of it. Lotta and Asher used to be friends of sorts. He’s four years younger and she was his tutor, privy to the violence at home and the tough life he led. When his abusive father went too far, Lotta shared Asher’s secret and his father was banished from the pack forever. His mother has struggled on her own ever since and Asher has never stopped blaming himself. He never should have told Lotta his secret, but he never thought she would betray his confidence and destroy his family.
Now Lotta is back in Wolf Ridge, the town she never wanted to return to, and Asher is the angry student with something to prove to the new teacher at school. Lotta is sick of the bad attitude from Asher and his friends. Her job is tough enough without him actively conspiring to disrupt her class and defy her every instruction. They both have secrets but suddenly they’re sharing a secret just between the two of them, one that could destroy Lotta’s life and derail Asher’s future.
Nobody writes shifters like Renee Rose and this book is no exception. Asher and Lotta are young and tortured and just a little bit out of control, and I can’t recommend this book enough. Their story is sweet and steamy and everything I want from this series.
Carlotta/Lotta James' family is considered "pack royalty" so when she decides to leave the pack to pursue her art degree in Chicago, she must do it without her parents' financial help. She's struggled to make ends meet after graduation so when a temporary teaching position opens up at Wolf Ridge High, she returns home. To her chagrin, one of the students in her class, Asher Martin, holds her responsible for getting his father banished from the pack several years back. She feels his rage and animosity every day he sits in her art class. While she lived among the humans, Lotta surpressed her wolf so when the first full moon rises after her return, the urgency to shift and join the pack overcomes her. All her senses are heightened so when a large wolf nudges her off the trail, she succumbs to the heated tension running through her body, but she doesn't realize it's her fated mate taking her on this high...and she really doesn't know her fated mate is Asher. The allure between fated mates is too strong to resist so they begin a secret forbidden frenemies relationship. In spite of the rage he still feels towards Lotta, he can't help but take care of her. Having been shunned by her parents for not following their rules, Lotta flourishes under his attention. When they were younger and she tutored him, Lotta always cared for him since his family situation growing up was so toxic. I loved their dynamic together and the fervent support of one another.
Overall Opinion : I am a huge fan of this author and when I saw this book by her and rad the blurb , I was all over it. This book has a genre that I am particularly a huge fan of , that being Student-teacher bully romance with the female protagonist being the teacher.
Lotta and Asher are something else and I loved their chemistry a lot. With this author , I have always found her steamy scenes and the chemistry between the characters to be good , but the plot and the character buildup is often missing. Same was the case in this book. I just felt like I could have connected to the characters more but never had the chance. The storyline was sweet and there were some angsty and dark parts as well but they could have been leveraged better. That being said this was a good one time read for me.
The latest bully romance in the Wolf Ridge High series and this one comes with an age gap and a touch of the forbidden as Carlotta was Asher Martin’s teacher. There was already some history between them as Carlotta had helped him with his studies when he was younger, but then something had happened resulting in his father’s expulsion and Asher had blamed Carlotta for his family’s resulting problems ever since. Now he’s no longer a child, he’s a dominant alpha wolf she’s at his mercy and when he discovers out that she’s his mate, then the gloves are off.
This was a quick, fast-paced read and quite a mild bully romance compared to some I’ve read, feeling more angsty than anything else. There is an age gap element of around four to five years but despite Carlotta being in a position of authority, Asher’s character is eighteen and an adult. At times, he seemed immature in his actions towards Carlotta, striking out like the child he had been when his father had been banished from the pack, reacting without knowing the full story while Carlotta had only been trying to protect him. After reading this book and the previous ones in the series I’m really not liking the council who are just a bit draconian in their behaviour especially here, blaming the sins of the father on the child.
Alpha Varsity is a demonstration of Rose’s mastery of her craft. It uses a trope I don’t normally prefer—the student-teacher romance—and yet Rose makes it work wonderfully. That’s because she structures this book so well and uses the wolf-shifter culture to her advantage.
As wolf shifters, it turns out that Lotta and Asher are fated mates. It doesn’t matter that she’s five years older than him or that he’s in his senior year of high school when she returns as a long-term substitute art teacher—a mate tie is a mate tie, and sooner rather than later they have to act on it or go crazy. And this is where Rose’s mastery of sensual scenes shines forth. She uses (the multitude of) them to illustrate the gradual shifts in Asher and Lotta’s relationship from frenzied desire to care to love.
I was also thrilled that the problem here is that Lotta must follow her artistic muse, and that’s in direct opposition to the kinds of jobs that shifters usually take. Meanwhile, Asher is the classic “kid from the wrong side of the tracks” who’s judged by his father’s behavior instead of being seen in his own light. I loved that the usual “evil villain” adversary is avoided in Alpha Varsity.
This is a grand entry in Rose’s Wolf Ridge High series. Anyone who can take a plot I usually avoid and keep me glued to the pages is definitely doing something right.
Carlotta didn’t plan to come back home to Wolf Ridge but she needed funds to keep working on her art. Being the art teacher for Wolf Ridge High is not going to be easy. Especially when Asher Martin is one of the students. He hates her. Lotta caused Asher’s dad to be banished. She told a secret and he has no trust in her. But worse, she is his fated mate. I knew I was going to cry through parts of this. Lotta suppressed her wolf for five years but when the first full moon comes, her wolf takes charge. She is the one that is Lotta’s muse. We learn a lot about her art and what it means. With Asher, he has a lot to work through. He didn’t know about all that happened to cause his father’s banishments. He pokes at Lotta in class and even out. These two learn about each other and what their wolves need. The connection between them is there but the human part is fighting it. I love that Lotta stood up for Asher. That was the best fist pump feeling when she stepped up. You root for their love and pray for these two to forgive the other. I loved the surprise at the end too. We now need to find someone for Lincoln.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Even though this is a standalone for the Wolf Ridge series – I highly recommend reading them in order as it does help to understand this storyline a little bit more. I really enjoy this author and writings and was super excited to continue on with the series and I loved the immediate connection I felt with Asher and that protective alpha instinct he had. Even though he was mad at Lotta for having a hand in getting his father banished from the pack, once he realized she was his mate he was able to overcome his resentment towards her. I felt that some of it was also because when this all went down he was a 13 year old so he was probably going thru puberty at that time too which make him being upset all that much worse. Asher is now 18 years old and Carlotta after leaving Wolf Ridge has come back to be an art teacher and much to her dismay Asher has grown into a man but also her mate. The chemistry between the two of them was hot hot hot and add in that forbidden taboo teacher/student with bully type relationship as well as shfters/mates and the whole thing was explosive. But I also really enjoyed the growth that the characters themselves went through - - Highly recommend
Loved this shifter student/teacher, taboo, fated mates romance with a touch of second chance/enemies to lovers for good measure.
Asher is the high school football player with a chip on his shoulder. His father was thrown out of the wolf pack due to his violent tendencies. Asher has been tarred with the same brush and feels trapped by his town and its attitudes. Lotta is a brilliant artist who is forced to return to her hometown to work as an art teacher when her art career stalls. She returns to find the boy she once tutored is now a man with alpha vibes, who gives off strong waves of hatred towards her.
I loved that she was the teacher in the scenario. I have read so many female student/male teacher romances. This didn't have taboo energy as he is already 18 and coming to the end of his school year. The pull of fated mates trumps taboo for the shifters. These two try to deny their mating, but their chemistry is too overwhelming. They are heat and passion together. I loved how these two fall with hatred falling by the wayside along the way.
Brilliant school based fated mates shifter romance from Renee Rose.
Renee Rose’s “Alpha Varsity” is book 5 in her Wolf Ridge High series and it was a blast. For me, bully stories don’t tend to rank very high on my list of favorite genres, but Ms. Rose does it right. At least for me. In this story, we get second chances, enemies to lovers, a tiny bit of age difference, and the always fun student/teacher relationship, just to round things out. Granted, they’re only five years apart in age, but it’s the spice that counts. And we get all the spice and more with Lotta and Asher. There’s so much animosity going on between these two that bleeds out to the secondary characters, which adds to the overall storytelling. But back to Lotta and Asher. I loved their characters and how they drew out the best in each other that only they could do and this is also something that Ms. Rose does so very well. Well, that and the spice. And Asher is particularly growly. I really like how we get more details of the high school, the students (football team), teachers, and the local pack with each book. Sort of curious about seeing some sort of interaction/reunion with Alpha Green and his son – maybe at a homecoming game?
Alpha Varsity is Book 5 in the Wolf Ridge Academy series. It's a steamy, fated mates, forbidden, reverse age-gap, opposites-attract, wolf shifter gets his teacher darkish bully romance. Carlotta "Lotta" is an art teacher who has only recently returned to town. She didn't want to return but couldn't find work. She has suppressed her wolf for the last 4 years. Asher is an 18 year old student at Wolf Ridge High. He was tutored by Lotta when he was 13 and they were close but then he thinks she reported his abusive father and got him banished from the pack, which hurt him and his mom's status within the pack. Now, when she returns as his substitute art teacher, he is determined to make her pay. They also both realize they are fated mates at some point. These two had chemistry in spades. The smexy scenes were hot. This story is one of forgiveness, love, and redemption. Asher wanted to hate her, but love over ruled. The way they both supported and defended each other was everything, and their HEA was well earned after quite the roller-coaster ride.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Asher and Carlotta were neighbours when they were younger. But after betraying Asher with a secret he confided in her with, she suddenly leaves, leaving his family to bear the consequences of her actions. Years later she's back as an art teacher, and Asher vows to get revenge on her. When he finds out that she is his fated, this only makes his his taste for revenge stronger.
The chemistry between these two is strong. Carlotta has been suppressing her wolf for 4 years, but finding her mate and has made this more difficult. Asher tries his hardest to resist temptation and the pull to his fated, but his natural protective instincts eventually have him giving in.
Renee Rose never fails to deliver on a werewolf shifter story. Compared to the previous books in this series, Alpha Varsity had less plot and more smut. Which if this is something you prefer, give this book a read. Although it can be read as a standalone, reading the first 4 books will provide better context and backstories.
This was a simply wonderful read, great characters and captivating story you’ll thoroughly enjoy This is a captivating read and I found that Carlotta didn’t plan on coming back into Wolf Ridge but she has been working hard and as the teacher of Wolf Ridge High she knows that it is not always easy. Unfortunately, Lotta caused Ashers dad to be banished when she had told a secret and things are even worse than this because Asher is also the fated mate of Lotta and Lotta has been supressing her wolf and this is not a good idea as when it came to the full moon, she found herself with her wolf taking charge which was not great. These two will learn all about each other and what their wolves need, the connection between both the and human part is fighting it and its apparent that the fact that Lotta actually stood up for Asher and I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am sure that you will feel the same. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the wonderful writing.
Alpha Varsity is book five of the Wolf Ridge High Series.
I get Carlotta's need to protect Asher from the truth about his father, but this does cause a lot of hatred and intense moments. But this goes to show what a nice person she was. She really wanted to protect Asher from any heartbreak. Even when she comes back to town and sees how angry he is, she doesn't try to make him like her. Carlotta has to go through a lot of pain by coming back to her small town. She has been suppressing her wolf for a number of years and now that she is back, her wolf wants out.
Asher has a lot of anger in his life and has an incredibly short fuse. His need for revenge outweighs a lot of others thoughts and feelings he might have. However, he does finally become a more reasonable character near the end.
These two have a bit of a taboo relationship with a student and teacher. This does cause some troublesome moments. But these two do have a lot of chemistry together, even if some of it is laden with hatred.
I did not read the previous books in the series. But it isn’t a must to appreciate this book. Alpha Varsity is an enemies/lovers and teacher/student romance story. Carlotta has returned to Wolf Ridge to a substitute teacher position. Asher is an eighteen year old student who also happens to be in Lotta’s art class. There is previous history between them. They were friends. Then turned to enemies. Asher has been stewing in his hatred of Lotta for five long years. But fate is about to screw them over because twists of all twists they are fated mates. Asher is of course an alpha, possessive and protective. But still unforgiving. Lotta has her own personal struggles and issues she is dealing with. And she most definitely doesn’t need Asher adding to her problems. But they can’t stay away from each other. And the chemistry and energy between them is high octave and off the charts hot. It’s sexy and steamy and absolutely explosive. But everything with them is intense and complex. Read this book in one sitting because I just couldn’t stop reading.
Carlotta “Lotta” James betrayed her neighbor and fellow pack member - Asher Martin. After tucking tail and leaving shortly after that, she appears back in Wolf Ridge after being gone for 5 years. Lotta does not want to be back in Wolf Ridge anymore than Asher Martin wants her to be. Due to the betrayal, Asher wants nothing more for Lotta to go away. In fact, he goes as far to be a nuisance in her art class. He plans to make her pay for all the pain she put him and his mom through.
This was such a cute but hot story. Very much a forbidden relationship (student x teacher), however the student is 18 and the teacher is 22. Renee does shifter romances so well! She is one of main authors that writes shifter romances that I will read. Some tropes include forbidden romance, alpha male, shifter, bully and fated mates. Some TWs to consider: mention of abuse (towards spouse and child- MMC), on page sexual harassment & almost assault (happens to FMC), sexually explicit scenes, mentions of lack of food, lack of access to food due to funds. Just keep your triggers in mind and be careful.
Alpha Varsity is the fifth installment in the Wolf Ridge High series. Alpha Varsity follows the journey of Lotta and Asher. Alpha Varsity is a forbidden teacher-student fated mate romance which contains the elements of revenge, bully romance, primal play, and light kink. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this amazing book and I couldn’t get enough of Asher and Lotta’s amazing story. Author Renne Rose is a fantastic with her storytelling and writing skills. She creates amazing paranormal romance stories that have storylines that are quite captivating from start to finish. Alpha Varsity is suspenseful and most definitely a page-turner of a paranormal romance story. Alpha Varsity is the first book that I have read by Renne Rose, and she did NOT disappoint in anyway whatsoever with her amazing book. Alpha Varsity is a book that I would HIGHLY recommend for anyone who enjoys reading paranormal romance stories. I’m looking forward to reading even more books written by Renne Rose.

Carlotta James returns to Wolf Ridge High as their Art teacher for the remainder for the remainder of the school year. Lotta has been away at art school and has been loving amongst humans. Asher Martin blames Lotta for his father being banished and his families fall from grace. Asher is determined to make Lotta life miserable but fate has other plans. When Lotta's wolf forces it's way out at the pack run she comes across a male wolf whose scent is intriguing. Asher knows instantly that Lotta is his fated mate and he hates it. So he forms a love/hate sexual relationship with her. But as he starts to realize he may have the wrong impression of Lotta. When Asher fianlly finds out the truth of why his father was banished, he runs away. When he returnd he encounters Lotta's ex roommate and is forced to defend his mate at the cost of banishment. Overall, I am not a fan of teacher/student troupes, however this one was well written and intriguing. I enjoyed reading this book and cannot wait for the next installment.
Lotta left Wolf Ridge to pursue her career in art. Only coming back because she needed the money that a job at the school would provide. Difficult enough to return after such a long absence made more so by the almost feral animosity of one of her students. Whilst it might be understandable given she was the reason his violent father was banished she still finds herself caring for him.
Asher has been an angry young shifter ever since his father was banished and the pack expected him to follow in his footsteps. Fate must be messing with him when the new art teacher turns out to be the one woman he trusted and was responsible for his pariah status in the pack. Even more so when it materialises that she is his fated mate.
Her may hate her but he can no more keep his hands off of her than stop breathing.
A superb suppressed passion romance full of mistruths, misunderstandings, angst, shifter violence and of course, heat. As expected from this author a thoroughly enjoyable fast paced gripping read.
