• Najbolji prevod - definitivno tapas. Donekle.)
• Najbolje iskupljenje - definitivno Rejnold. Kroz ceo roman pratimo ga kako sazreva, shvata svoj greške, i ispašta zbog njih.
Cha Siyeon was brought home by her father to a household filled with cold, indifferent half-brothers. Despite her late mother having nothing to do with the death of their mother (at least according to the MTL), they still held her responsible. Even the household staff treated her like trash, viewing both Siyeon and her mom as homewreckers. College was her ticket out—finally free, she moved out and juggled three part-time jobs while studying. Somewhere in between, she still found time to play an otome game.
The game had two modes:
Normal mode followed the heroine, Yvonne.
Hard mode followed the villainess, Penelope.
In normal mode, Yvonne began with a 30% favorability rating from each of the five male leads:
Crown Prince Callisto
Marquis Vinter
Young Duke Derrick
Duke’s second son Reynold
Knight Eclise
In hard mode, as Penelope, the favorability was either zero or negative. And the plot? Straight out of the "villainess gets doomed" playbook:
Yvonne goes missing as a child
The Duke adopts Penelope because she resembles Yvonne
Derrick and Reynold resent Penelope for taking Yvonne’s place
On Penelope’s 18th birthday, Vinter returns with the real Yvonne
Eclise, a former slave purchased by the Duke, is appointed Yvonne’s escort
Yvonne meets Callisto → they fall in love
Penelope, as the villainess, is ultimately killed by Callisto
After dying countless times in hard mode, Cha Siyeon rage-quits the game… only to wake up inside it—as Penelope. Now, she must reach 100% favorability with one male lead and receive a love confession before the coming-of-age ceremony to return home.
The novel spans five volumes with:
231 main chapters
40 side stories
8 special chapters
The translation? Pretty much raw MTL—definitely a "hard mode" read in more ways than one. But it was popular enough to get a manhwa adaptation.
My thoughts: I gave this 4 stars, but only because of the side stories. Why? Because it felt like the author suddenly realized, “Oops, I forgot to wrap things up properly.” So we get 40 more chapters to finally give Penelope her closure.
Then—surprise!—the author again realizes Cha Siyeon didn’t get hers. Cue another 8 special chapters to fix that.
It honestly felt like James Cameron waking up one morning and deciding, “You know what? Jack Dawson survived the Titanic. Let’s give him a new arc where he moves on because Rose already got her happy ending.” And then writing yet another side story where we watch Rose living her best life with her family, just so she can finally let go of the past.
So, was it a tragedy? Not really. The “tragedy” tag is basically false advertising at this point.
Tbh i wasn't sure if i wanted to read the novel or wait for the manhwa updates, but after starting i absolutely loved every moment of it. The female lead is so strong and lovable at the same time and calisto😭my sweet baby his development is incredible He tries so hard to realize his feelings and improve himself to become better and better at loving penelope. And their chemistry is amazing. Everytime i read their parts my butterflies come out and dance💫

A satisfying end for a great story, I do appreciate Penelope holding on her grudges, it warms my cold heart to see everyone getting exactly what they deserved
Finally I'm finished with it! I got tired of this novel towards the end, to be honest. Also I'm not the fan of that happy-ever-after stories with marriage and kids. But extra and special chapters gave closure to multiple character storylines, including Penelope herself so they were a bit draggy but important nonetheless. This is such an unusual story. It started as weird but simple concept of a girl who is suddenly transported into a game, she was playing, as a villain. She has to make one of the main male characters fall in love with her or she will die. Penelope, character she has now become, has a difficult life where her family hates and torments her, which is not unlike her own. She measures her chances, chooses most likely candidates and works on charming them off their feet but surprisingly manages to mend Penelope's reputation and relationships with family and find her own place in this game world. On the surface it's simple but there are so many fucked up sub-plots about magic and cults and brain-washing. And cute romance scenes. And many weird situations. And of course beautiful happy ending. Penelope is charming and cute and a fighter but there's underlying trauma in many of her actions and choices. Sometimes she is so cold, stubborn and unforgiving it makes me sad. Glad that she found Callisto, one more broken soul who cares about her more than about anything in the world. Callisto sometimes goes overboard and it's obvious that he doesn't know how to build healthy relationships but he's trying. And they make it work. Plot is sometimes repetitive, sometimes a bit boring and made me facepalm several times but overall it's an enjoyable story. Too long, of course, but perfect for reading during holidays when you are too lazy to think and just want something precious. I would prefer if it had more substance, more well thought-our plot but overall liked it a lot. Definitely experimental read and I doubt I'd like to read anything similar to this soon but I love trying new things so I'm satisfied.
Pontos negativos: - O ciclo chato e respetivo de alguns comportamentos da Penélope e do Príncipe Herdeiro; CHATICE a Pen foge dele, se mete em encrenca e ele resgata ela, eles brigam, depois ele fica ainda mais doido achando que ela vai largar ele a qualquer momento, um ciclo sem fim dessa chatice;
- O mal desenvolvimento da Penélope como arqueóloga, ela e o Príncipe ficam brigando pelo motivo dela não querer se casar com ele e se tornar imperatriz pra ser arqueóloga mas no final não vemos impacto nenhum das descobertas dela, a autora não desenvolve isso e fica só parecendo que foi uma perca de tempo, mesmo que ela tenha achado o lugar dos magos anciões e temos uma profecia sem pé e cabeça, na qual no futuro quando a “profecia se cumpre” é super mal desenvolvida e no final a gente não entende qual foi o propósito daquilo;
A autora não conseguiu aprofundar e dar coesão na mitologia/LOR desse universo e por isso no fim a gente sente que essa jornada da Pen como arqueólogo foi só encheção de linguiça;
- O arco do Eckles é um eterno “foi de nada pra lugar nenhum”, ele é o personagem mais mal desenvolvido de toda a história, acho que ele tinha potencial para ter se redimido (morrendo para salvar a Pen e cumprir com sua missão de cavaleiro dela, uma vez que o amor tóxico dele só poderia acabar em trágedia) ou ele abraçado seu lado vilão e ter sido derrotado por Callisto (poderia ter sido morto ou preso), mas não temos nada disso ficando algo no meio termo com ele se “sacrificando” pra ajudar a Pen, mas acaba sobrevivendo e perde a memória, porém continuou seguindo a Penélope que nem um doido. Depois eles tem a mesma discussão que tiveram antes no 4º livro, e por fim ele vai embora abandonado ela. Minha opinião, toda essa parte dele voltar vivo e com amnésia muito sem pé nem cabeça, antes tivesse ficado na dúvida se ele tinha morrido ou sobrevivido;
- Judith ter asas !!???!!?!!? Achei viajado e jogado na história, é muito mal desenvolvido;

Żyła koszmarem i trzeba przywyknąć powoli do czegoś lepszego.
Szkoda.
I understand why Penelope cut ties with Duke and Emily, but I strongly disagree with her and the way she did it.
I also understand that they were cruel people to Original Penelope and helped destroy her soul, but they were not aware of that and more importantly, THOSE CHARACTERS CHANGED IN VOLUME 1 ITSELF AND FUCKING HELPED HER WHENEVER THEY COULD THROUGH THE STORY. 95% of the story they were supporting the fake Penelope and she did them dirty.
She would be literally dead without them.
How I hated how she spits in Duke's face and say that she killed Ivonne, met the real Ivonne and that she can't come back because of no body to house her soul since she was the one who destroyed her body. AND THEM SAYS THAT SHE DOESN'T WANT ANYTHING TO DO WITH HIM (along with the other EckRats, but I digress, they were really annoying but she didn't need to do that to her father). GRRRRRRR.
I hated how she forgives best girl Emily and actually leaves her in the manor. Fuck, she was your right hand woman, she actually fought a vampire for you and you just forgets about her. Take her to be your maid in the palace.
Sometimes "Cha Siyeon" says that she and Penelope are the same person now, but that isn't true, almost all of her decisions are based on her own experience, and them when she actually didn't had a bad experience with someone, she invokes the name of "Original P" de give argument to what she wants to do.
Also, I hated old man Hamilton back in the story, he should have died in the capital in the Battle of the Palace. Fuck this. Like, amnesia? REALLY?
I also have other issues with her in this specific book, but they all get resolved there... almost all of them.
Anyway, I liked the story overall. This book was a roller coaster of emotions for me and I think it was cool how she moved on with her life.

This volume contains the side stories - Read on Tapas
Honestly, this is one of those cases where the side stories kind of ruined things for me. The only portion that I liked was the final eight episodes, which focused on closure for Penny's original life. I loved watching her put those scumbags in their places.
The main problem with this volume of side stories was that Callisto felt totally OOC for most episodes. Gone was the confident man who let Penny do what she wanted while protecting her. Instead, we got an anxious man intent on finding a way to bind--sometimes even cage--Penny to him. It was almost as if he had switched personalities with Eckles for a while, which is not good at all.
Eventually, we got our supportive man back. I guess it was meaningful to watch a man so scared and anxious about Penny possibly leaving him actively supporting her and her career, even though it meant not seeing her for days on end. But I wish his anxieties were handled in a way that made more sense to his character.
Speaking of Penny's career... what was that? Did the author really make homegirl "establish all she wanted from her career in 5 years," and then she's done, turned into instead? Seriously? I don't think that's how passion works, and I don't see why it had to be a one or the other kind of thing... It felt like a bizarre route for independent Penny to go...
Overall, I highly recommend the main story. If you're considering reading the side stories, skip to the eight-chapter special episode instead.
ESPECTACULAR. 10/10
OK, after suffering thru the last half of this novel, i found that the ending was kinda lackluster i got to admit…but so happy callisto is endgame!! i just found it kinda weird that she just kinda…killed her body irl like ??? other than that, this has probably been one of my favorite otome isekais, as far as concept and plot goes. a FL who is smart and calculated, and when occasionally makes mistakes, actually suffers consequences which tbh other OI lack (plot armor too thick). BOY some scenes…my heart was racing so bad bc i was like WTFFFF. i thought that the progression of the main relationship was great and that there was resolution with each of the male leads. i found the side stories a little lacking though, i honestly could care less about penny’s archaeology journey and didnt find it necessary to have pickles pop out of nowhere. overall, this series was a 4/5 stars for me but i definitely can say getting to this point was tiresome and dragged out.

It was good, but it kept dragging on. Not to mention that Penelope’s character was so repetitive with her feelings and they never evolved. Somehow she was always in the right. And don’t even get me started on the plot armor around her, her family, and the prince 😭 . It was a cute story, Penelope and Castillo are a good match. However, if Penelope is a pacifist, why is she 1.) telling Eclise to off himself (granted, he was insane and obsessed with her), 2.) tried KILLING Eclise (again, he was insane, but she described herself as a pacifist), and then 3.) obsessed with killing Yvonne (who is evil so I get it, but again, PACIFIST) it just didn’t make sense.

Essentially this volume is a collection of the side stories, epilogue, and extras. It's not completely superfluous as several character finales are found here. It also time jumps to provide some closure and finishes off the tale for our protagonist's former life. While the outcomes match what has been setup I am not a particular fan of the resolution. Almost all characters are given a version or redemption that allows them not to take responsibility for their former actions or they are simply avoided.

what a wonderful ending for a villainess! I'm so glad penelope was able to find peace after everything she went through, and so was callisto. they deserve it more than anyone else. I'm glad that I was rooting for the super blonde from book #1 for a reason. I initially thought that of course she would choose the most sullen guy who would only be rude to her (as usually happens), but a miracle happened!
Four stars (or maybe 4.5) because at some point I felt that Penelope is way too cold. I mean, I think her behavior is justified, but I guess I'm just too soft and I want happy endings for everyone after all those that happened in all of the 5 books. Hahahah.
Aslo, everything that Callisto does is just too cute and funny.
Okay, I like the ending. Not to spoil things, but I like how our girl got her closure outside the game, too. So, both Penelope and the OG girl got their endings. I'm just a bit iffy about the whole power of their child. It seemed a bit off as I read it, and I couldn't quite picture it—like, what is the purpose of it? I'm hoping the manhwa can do it justice more than my imagination could.
