Christmas Alibi

Rate this book
One little lie, a dash of holiday chaos, and a sprinkle of forbidden fantasies—this Christmas, anything can happen!

I love my daughter to bits, but getting set up with her fiancé's aunt? Hard pass. No matter how many times I tell my family I’m perfectly happy on my own, they just won’t drop it. But when a harmless little fib blows up in my face, my Christmas goes from calm to chaotic in no time.

I was all set for another quiet Christmas on my own—no big deal, I’m used to it. But when Jono ends up in a bind, I can't help but offer to lend a hand. Sure, I’ve been secretly fantasizing about those gorgeous green eyes for months, but a relationship? Not my thing. I’m just helping out a friend... even if my imagination occasionally gets the better of me.

Will a holiday twist turn their lives upside down—or bring them the Christmas miracle they never knew they needed?

About the author

Dani Elias

46 books222 followers
Dani Elias writes swoony, steamy British romance about women in their forties who are very good at some parts of life and quietly unravelling in others. Her FMCs are relatable, flawed, funny, and fully human. Some are plus size, some are not, but all of them are centred, desired, and allowed to take up space in their own love stories.

Set mostly in small towns, with the occasional city romcom, Dani’s books are written in British English and focus on emotional connection, lived-in chemistry, and intimacy that deepens the relationship rather than dominating it. Her heroes are usually golden retriever cinnamon rolls with a side of nerdy dorkiness, because frankly, that’s the dream.

Based in Carlisle (UK), Dani writes romances for readers who want grown up love, real bodies, real feelings, and proof that happily ever after does not come with an age limit.

Christmas Alibi is a quick festive novella with a really sweet story and a dash of spice.
Jonathan is quite happy to spend Christmas on his own with his goldfish but when his daughter rings and he ends up telling her a white lie, he ends up inviting his conference buddy Maddy round for Christmas Dinner in exchange for her to pretend on a video call to his daughter that she's his girlfriend and that he's not home all alone for Christmas. But when his daughter, her fiance, and his parents gatecrash Christmas at his house, the fake dating stunt begins to fester into something more between them....
This was just so lovely. I loved all the characters, the way they spent Christmas, the fun they had, and the setting with the cottage, too. This was the perfect feel-good Christmas read I didn't know I needed!

Jono is avoiding being set up by his loving daughter like the plague and comes up with a little fib that will get him out of whatever she is trying to cook up. Only problem is that things take a turn when Melody, his fake date, has to appear more real to his family for Christmas.

This was such a fun short read with endearing characters, tons of holiday fun, and spice! Being in my 40’s, I rarely get to read about my age group in contemporary romance that actually appeals to me and this one did the trick. So cute, I absolutely loved this one!

Thank you so much to Happily Booked PR and Dani Elias for providing this free ARC. This is my honest review! This published on November 12th.

WTF Dani Elias. I don't have room on my TBR. But you better believe your works of art will be added. What a perfect, short slice of heaven.
Jono and Melody are steamy. You could feel it when the author is introducing you to the characters. And the ending ... Swoon.
A quick, delicious break between all the 500+ books.

To be honest I really wasn’t sure if I’d enjoy a hallmark romance but I loved this one. I loved it so much. Dani Elias has me going out of my comfort zone every book she writes. I’m enjoying the whole suspense romance, small town, and reading about cats lol. You got to love the fake dating trope. I even loved Jonathan’s family they were so sweet. This book made me jealous of all the family traditions that did. I’ve always wanted that but we’ll see if I can get my future family to do it. 🤞I also really enjoyed the relationship Jonathan and Maddy had. Thank you Dani Elias for letting me read this as an arc.

"I like a teddy bear with a dirty mouth!" 🌶️

Fake dating and one bed are my two top favorite tropes, so this cute Christmas novella was just absolutely brilliant in my opinion!! 💚 Maddy and Jono were the absolute cutest from the outset so their HEA was as expected and wonderful. 💕

This was an ARC read for me and just a quick one as it's just a short novella but it actually has me looking forward to Christmas already. 🎁 It was fast paced / fast burn and got straight to it, and again... Exactly what I love in a book. Definitely recommend for a cute Christmas speedy read if you want a feel good story 🎄 It's 5 Stars from me! 🌟

It was a good story, I enjoyed it. I do wish it was a little longer though, I’m not a massive fan of smut written like this so wasn’t for me in that aspect but I know a lot of people that do like it 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’d rate it 3.75⭐️

Nothing like a dash of Christmas magic to help you see what your heart has always known

Jonathan’s white lie has landed him in quite a predicament. When he told his daughter that he is seeing someone new to get her off his back, he didn’t expect his family to surprise him by showing up unannounced on Christmas Eve. Now he has no choice but to act out a fake dating arrangement with his colleague Maddy until his family leaves. Then they can part ways after Boxing Day, and things will go back to normal…right?

Christmas Alibi is a sweet, steamy, and uplifting novella. I always enjoy reading love stories with older main characters. Jonathan and Maddy are in their forties, and neither plans to settle down with anyone, regardless of their chemistry as friends. Dani Elias writes great characters! Maddy’s bubbly personality is infectious, and she fits in perfectly with Jonathan’s quirky family. The length of the novella is perfect, giving the main characters just enough time to realize that putting their fake dating plot into action has revealed some feelings hidden deep within them. This is a great, snack-sized read to get yourself ready for the holiday spirit.

This was my fourth title by Dani, a second novella, and the previous three books were 5 star reads for me but this one was sadly just not it. I got it cause I was craving Dani’s style and some British vibes, but it didn’t wow me at all.
I filed through it cause it’s 100 pages long so a very quick read. It was fine but just it. Jono’s character during spicy scenes wasn’t matching with his character outside the bedroom, something felt off in this department for me.
It’s a very quick and nice read but if you want something by Dani that also has Christmas vibes, I reccomend The Unhinged Christmas of a Cat Lady - I liked it way more than this novella.

Absolutely loved this! Then the MCs are in their 40 and best friends, it only made sense one would ask the other to be their alibi to their family when Katie keeps trying to hook her dad, Jonathan, up with people she knows. Maddy agrees to save him from family torture but things get complicated during the holidays. It’s sweet and lovely, and if I didn’t have to adult, could have finished it in a day. Definitely heartwarming as these two adults rediscover themselves and feelings they thought they lost or didn’t even have.

This was an amazingly hilarious and smutty little XMAS Novella. Like…I was giggling the whole time, and loved every page of it.

Jono needs a christmas alibi…one that his friend Maddy is all too willing to provide. However, when the family unexpectedly turns up at his door, he has to switch up the plan…and maybe things will be all the better for it…

A sweet, cozy, hilarious christmas fake dating/relationship story. The nicknames, the hilarity and the smut all blend together to form..well, the perfect Christmas Alibi. Highly recommend for a short, sweet, and funny read.

Jonathan and Maddy start out as friends and colleagues. They have amazing banter and Jonathan is always so sweet and thoughtful. Maddy is a spitfire and my new bff! I love that they are in their 40s, straight forward and no games, except the fake dating to get through Christmas with his family! This is a sweet and spicy holiday romance novella with a heartwarming feel. A great way to kick off the holiday season!

Jonathan finds himself in a bit of a pickle when his daughter tries to set him up. Thankfully Maddy has other ideas to help him with his little white lie. Both have known each other for a while on a professional level, could this be the best Christmas ever? Lovely story and enjoyed this quick read!

This was like if Hallmark or W Network were to make a short film, but a version of it that wouldn't be appropriate for children.

I kinda wish this was a full-length book.
But for as it is, 5⭐️.

This was my first Christmas book of 2024, and it was all you would want in a holiday novella! It was a feel good, get what you didn't know you needed until you had it & left me with all the feels!

Jonathan's been single since his wife died 10 years ago, and he's been happy and full-filled with his life. Or so he thought. While talking to his daughter, Katie, he spins a little white lie that he's dating someone so she doesn't worry about him spending the holidays alone again. His friend and colleague, Maddy, happens to be with him, and he asks her to be his fake girlfriend for the holiday. When his family shows up to meet her and spend the holiday, they share a bedroom, and it gets spicy from there.

It was such a cute story about finding what you had in front of you that you didn't know was there.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 for this swoon worthy holiday read!

This was a cute, short, light read. I always enjoy reading Dani Elias Novellas, it's always a cute romance, a glimpse of an instance into two people's lives while they find love. It's the perfect palette cleanser after having read heavier topics.

The perfect read before the holidays ❤️

Another wonderful read from Dani Elias, and this time, it's a festive one. I love how Dani writes main characters of all ages, shapes, and sizes. Christmas Alibi is about Jono and Maddy, two friends in their 40s who decide to fake date for Christmas to get Jono's family to back off about him meeting someone. They were just the most adorable couple. The story features two tropes I love - fake relationship and sharing one bed. Sweet yet spicy, this was a fabulous novella to get me in the Christmas spirit.

This was such an adorable Christmas novella! If you’re looking for a fun, spicy, and witty holiday read, this one is a must. Dani Elias did an incredible job making me fall for these MCs in such a short time, I was completely hooked!

Jono and Maddy had me blushing, grinning, and fully invested from start to finish. Their chemistry was effortless, the banter was perfection, and the holiday magic made it even better. As a total sucker for fake dating and forced proximity, this book checked all my boxes.

Such a fun, cozy, and swoon-worthy read I loved every second of it!

Quick, short read, fast paced, got straight to it! Fake dating and one bed trope... absolutely! Who doesn't enjoy any read that involves these?! Older age, always a bonus as that is not something you come across all that often.

If you're after a cute Christmassy read, this is the book for you. Sweet, steamy and uplifting, second chance at love. Feel good story right there.

Thank you so much to Dani Elias and Happily Booked PR for the opportunity to read & review Christmas Alibi - all opinions are my own.

This one was short, sweet, funny, lighthearted and spicy! I adored Jono and Maddy's love story.

Jonathan (AKA Jono) is a widower who works as the Chief Editor of a finance magazine. Maddy also works for a finance company and these two are coworkers who enjoy hanging out at work events. One day, Jono's adult daughter calls and invites her father to join her and her fiance's family for Christmas. Her mother passed away a while back and she is tired of seeing her dad be alone for Christmas. She wants to set him up with her fiance's aunt. Well, Jono is having none of that and tells his daughter that he is already in a relationship. He promises to call her and introduce her to his non-existent girlfriend. He then asks Maddy if she would not mind playing his girlfriend on the videocall he is set to have with his daughter. Maddy agrees and all seems to be going well until a wrench is thrown in the plans. Instead of calling, Jono's daughter decides to give her dad a surprise Christmas visit and now that his family is there in person, Jono has to try to convince them that he and Maddy are truly in a relationship and in love! Will they be able to convince the family or will it all blow up in their faces?

Man, I have to say that I really enjoyed this one. It was only a few pages and I was able to read it in a couple of hours. I just loved Maddy and her sense of humor. She was so funny and laid back and was the perfect match for Jono. Though Jono is usually quite and reserved, he is a beast in the bedroom and when these two get together, they create fireworks! Maddy and Jono's chemistry was off the charts! I loved that these two were later in life MCs that still enjoyed life and I just found their personalities to be so fun. Even though this was a short one, the characters were well fleshed out and I even enjoyed the secondary characters (Katie, Rory, Jono's parents).

I loved that these two, after secretly crushing on each other for some time, finally got to get their HEA. This was a great cozy read. It will get you in the holiday spirit for sure! I highly recommend it!

Typical Dani Elias book ,brilliantly immersive soon as I picked up. Jonathan and Maddie are the couple in this one. Jonathan is being set up by his daughter so in order to thwart her , he needs a cover story . You know the type , a fake relationship , an alibi.. Jackanory ( it’s a British thing) . So up steps Maddie to fit the bill. Dashing through the snow and giving a thrill . This Christmas holiday leads to a perfect Christmas in lots of ways thanks to his little but not as she says ,planned it nor organised or demanded it.This was a quickie in more ways than one . Got the point across ,I was undone . It’s sexy and sweet ,cute to meet. A real, treat. Families huh but I’m sure he owes his daughter a heap because Jono ain’t been getting no sleep. He’s forty-five, two years older than her, though apart from the salt-and-pepper hair and a few fine lines around his eyes looks much younger in Maddie thought. Perhaps it’s that body that’s all taut. He’s only a friend but she’s smitten as a kitten ,because when he winks as he jests her vajajay really doesn’t care that he’s only a mate, she wants to go there with him in the sack , going to extremes ,him emptying his sac up her back …Well your wish is about to come to fruition . “So, why are you fibbing to your daughter, if you don’t mind me asking?” “She’s trying to set me up and was about to use her begging voice to get me to agree to travel up North and meet her fiancé’s aunt,” he shrugs.“Blimey. And so you invented a new girlfriend?” “I panicked.” You think Jono? “What are you going to do now? Introduce Horatio as your new girlfriend?” “No idea what I’ll do. I might come up with an excuse and say she broke up with me on Christmas Eve.”“Must be an evil imaginary girlfriend. Even the toughest bitch wouldn’t break up with someone on Christmas Eve.”“Well, it’s all I’ve got. I’ll figure it out… somehow. What about you? What are you doing for Christmas?”“Microwave dinner with Woddlesworth,” I reply through a mouthful of macaroni and cheese. “Microwave dinner?” Jono studies me.“I can’t cook, you know that.”
Brilliant ! Wonderful, prise that’s on the nose and good. Knew it would be cos Dani Elias’s writing ? Heavenly delicious 🤤

Jonathan “Jono,” a widowed, workaholic editor of a finance magazine, is perfectly content—or so he thinks—until his grown daughter, worried he’ll be alone again this Christmas, starts playing matchmaker. To dodge her well-meaning efforts, Jono blurts out that he’s already seeing someone… and ropes in his coworker and friend Maddy to pretend to be his girlfriend for a quick holiday video call. Easy, right? Not quite. When his daughter and the rest of his family show up unannounced on Christmas Eve, the fake dating charade turns real fast—complete with shared bedrooms, family bonding, and unexpected sparks. With cozy holiday vibes, fake romance turning real, and a generous helping of Christmas chaos, this light-hearted romcom is full of heart, heat, and festive charm!

Christmas Alibi is a cozy little firecracker of a holiday read that delivers both heart and heat. Watching two coworkers in their forties fake a relationship only to stumble into very real feelings? Yes, please. Maddy’s quick wit and warmth make her the perfect match for Jono, the quiet, broody editor who surprises everyone (especially her) with his bedroom confidence. Their chemistry practically leaps off the page, and the added holiday chaos—surprise family visits, one bed, and a house full of nosy relatives—makes it even more fun. With cozy holiday vibes, fake romance turning real, and a generous helping of Christmas chaos, this light-hearted romcom is full of heart, heat, and festive charm!

A big thanks to Happily Booked PR and Dani Elias for sending me a digital ARC of this book!

Everything Dani writes I have loved and this book isn't any different, I loved loved loved it!! I'm so glad I read it. I sat on a cold winters night wrapped up all cozy and read Jonathan and Maddy's story, it sure put me in the Christmas mood.

It's a fast paced, quick read, Christmas novella, that's super sweet and spicy. And will have you falling in love with the characters. Once I started I just couldn't put it down, I ate it up in one sitting.

It's packed with so much family time, laughter, spice, little white lie, second chances and so much more. They had me laughing, swooning, and fanning my self throughout the whole book. Their nicknames for each other I just loved.

Jonathan is a single dad, who lost his wife and raised his daughter on his own, he's never really dated anyone since. And his daughter is worried about him and just wants him to be happy, even know he's happy the way things are. But his daughter tries to set him up with someone and Jonathan ends up telling a little white lie, that now he needs to figure out how he's going to get out off this mess.

Maddy is a single, beautiful woman, who is friends and work colleagues with Jonathan, they enjoy each others company and make each laugh. Maddy over hears his conversation and asks him how he's going to get out off this mess basically.

That's when he's comes up with the idea of Maddy being his fake girlfriend just for Xmas to make his daughter happy and then they can break up. She agrees and plans are set in to motion. But things don't always go to plan, not when your family shows up for to meet your new girlfriend and spend Christmas together.

What will happen? Will there lie be exposed? Will they fall for each other for real? Grab the book and find out, it's so worth it. Highly recommend.
