One part of John Waters’s iconic “Trash Trilogy,” Flamingos Forever is a dark-comedy screenplay about a drag queen trying to retain her title of “Filthiest Person in the World.”
Fifteen years after the events of Pink Flamingos, Babs Johnson returns to Baltimore from a life spent largely in bus station lavatories, only to find that she once again has to fight for the right to claim the title of “World’s Filthiest Person.” Her nemesis Connie Marble’s sister, Vera Venninger, and her necrophiliac husband, Wilbur, are in her way. So begins a new battle of filth.
This raucous, filthy—and essential!—volume in John Waters’s oeuvre never made it to the screen, so this is readers’ and his legions of fans’ one chance to see how this ghastly and irreverent saga meets its end!
John Samuel Waters, Jr. is an American filmmaker, actor, writer, personality, visual artist and art collector, who rose to fame in the early 1970s for his transgressive cult films: Pink Flamingos and Hairspray. He is recognizable by his pencil-thin moustache.
RIP Divine. RIP Edith Massey. I wish this could’ve gotten made. Honestly, pretty tame compared to Pink Flamingos, but it would’ve been such a fun sequel.
Thanks to Macmillan Audio, the amazing John Waters (author), and Libro.fm for providing a free advance audiobook of Flamingos Forever: A Screenplay expertly read by John Waters himself. Getting free stuff does not influence my reviews in any way.
I’m so happy to have gotten the chance to listen to this since the movie was never made. It is the 4th part of the ‘Trash Trilogy’ (yeah, I know) and is mild compared to the other three but still pretty trashy and wild and insane. I loved it!
Enfin une suite que le peuple mérite et réclame ! La déesse Divine est de retour, filthier than ever, pour son plus grand combat à date : la destruction des plus grands a**holes du monde.
