A mysterious artifact. A deadly Soviet obsession. A race against time.
Post-war Paris has almost been a honeymoon. Most of the remnants of occupation have been scrubbed from Napoleon's walls, and the romance of the Seine feels stronger than ever. For over a year, we've enjoyed the warmth of French hospitality as we helped the former Resistance piece their country back together.
But, when America learns the Soviets are pouring resources into a frantic search for a piece of lost art, martialing spies and assets from across Europe, our idyllic moment is shattered.
Now, to understand why something as simple as art has the Soviets swarming about East Berlin, we must again navigate the dangerous web of spies, double agents, and shifting loyalties. With each step we take, the mystery deepens, and the stakes for the world's newborn peace grow ever higher.
As we close in on the elusive artifact, the truth behind our former ally's aims threatens to tear us apart and change the course of history.
Time is running out.
Beehive is fourth adventure in the Of Shadows & Secrets series, a gripping tale of espionage, love, and betrayal set against the tense backdrop of a divided, post-war Berlin.
Perfect for fans of historical thrillers and mm romantic suspense, this novel will keep you riveted from the first page to the last.
Casey Morales is an LGBT storyteller and the author of multiple bestselling MM romance novels. Born in the Southern United States, Casey is an avid tennis player, aspiring chef, dog lover, and ravenous consumer of gummy bears.
I have a problem with historical fiction that hasn't been properly researched. The inaccuracies undermine ones enjoyment by making one question everything else. A big inaccuracy here is the theatre with the poster for a show called 'Dr Zhivago', Pasternak didn't publish the book until 1957 in Italy. A simple Google check will sort that. The prime minister after the war was not Churchill, who got unceremoniously booted out in the general election in favour of the new Labour government and Clement Attlee. This was quite a big clanger to drop and spoils the book all for want of some decent editing. Apart from these issues, the book was quite enjoyable.
This is Book #4 in Casey's "Of Shadows & Secrets" series. In order to get the full effect, you need to have read the first 3 before you start this one. We start off with Will & Thomas enjoying post-war life in Paris waiting for their next assignment from OSS. They soon get a message to attend a clandestine meeting with Manakin. Will is shocked to find that his former roomie and best buddy from Harvard, Arty, is also there and code-named "Stork." I thought that might mean that Arty & Elizabeth might have started a family, but nothing materialized. Arty has brought along a box of new secret gadgets for Will & Thomas as they get their next assignment. They are headed back to Berlin, this time to investigate the Soviets not the Nazis.
The issue here revolves around a piece of sculpture that contains a secret that will severely damage Stalin's reputation if it's exposed. Casey gives us the full background on this issue running a parallel story of the Nazi retreat from occupied Poland so we know what the secret is as we follow Will & Thomas's search. The Soviets have a small army of their own agents trying to find the same sculpture that Will & Thomas are looking for. The setting is occupied Berlin just as its been split up between Russia, France, England and the US but before any clean-up has started or the Berlin Wall was built. Lots of bombed-out buildings and rubble to deal with. Add the fact that their primary Berlin contact is a lot less trustworthy this time and there is plenty of drama that will keep you turning the pages!
Eventually our boys solve the puzzle and get their hands on the secret and bring it back to Manakin. Then we have everyone back in Washington DC trying to decide whether to expose the secret and Stalin's involvement or not (he's still technically a part of the Allies at this time). Will & Thomas get involved at the very highest level of government and it's fun to see them get recognition for their dedication. They get an envelope slipped under their hotel room door with their next assignment in the Epilogue, so that tells us that Casey has more Will & Thomas stories coming. This book is about 100 pages shorter than the first 3, but it's still 5 stars all the way!
PS. One setting of this story is the big public museum in Berlin. Casey gives it a fake name, but it's real name is Neues Museum and you can visit it today on Museum Island in central Berlin. It's the one with the bust of Nefertiti. Worth a visit to feel firsthand Will & Thomas' adventure there.
It was a pleasure to meet Will and Thomas again in this new book. A new adventure in the post-war world this time. A captivating book, where fear is constant, urgency permanent. It's moving to watch them navigate these war-torn cities, in moments of attempted reconstruction when all lives have been devastated. Will and Thomas carry out their new mission, risking their lives to uncover a terrible Stalin secret. And in this hostile universe, they are highly talented spies and manage to live out their magnificent relationship, despite the extra difficulties it may bring, and at the same time it gives them extra strength to fight and come out of it alive, together. I loved this new tome and look forward to reading more of Will and Thomas's adventures.

‘Our job just got a lot more complicated’ – A terrific read!
Florida author Casey Morales continues to impress with this excellent fourth volume – BEEHIVE – of his exciting new series ‘Of Shadows & Secrets.’ To his highly respected series of MM romance novels Casey now adds historical fiction (World War II) complete with espionage overtones to his palette and the result is not only an engrossing (and credible) story, but also an even higher plane of writing skill. The initial volumes – CRIMSON. FALKIRK, and HALLUM – set the stage and now the mystery continues.
In this volume the afterburn of WW II follows Will and Thomas as the Soviet aura expands, and the action of this story moves the men to Berlin and beyond, striving to fight for democracy. The colorful language opens this book as follows: 1946 ‘Paris was slow to wake, her arms stretching in the soft rays of dawn, casting a glow across cobblestones. The French capital was the only place I knew where buildings shimmered like sunlight. It was unseasonably cool, even for a late European spring…’ The admixture of world history, military tactics, and romance makes this novel one of Casey’s best.
For an even more keen involvement with this novel, read the initial episodes first: this book stands alone, but getting to know Will and Thomas before departing for the war heightens the enjoyment. Highly recommended for all readers – with or without the steam of MM romance!

Will and Thomas are tasked with tracking down the missing art, going undercover as art experts. Will the find the missing artifact before it’s too late? And if they do, what secrets will they uncover?
I have only read the third book in this series and really enjoyed it so I knew I needed to read this one when it came out to see what happened next for Thomas and Will. I wasn’t disappointed! This book was a fun historical read that was full of mystery, intrigue and espionage. I really enjoyed how everything played out and my interest was held while this story I fded. Thomas and Will are great lead characters and their working relationship, as well as their personal relationship, adds a lot to this story. I still need to go back and read the first two books in this series, so I can say from experience, you can read this book without reading the first few. You’ll be missing out on background info, but it will still be a good espionage thriller anyway. Overall this was a fun and enjoyable read and I look forward to seeing if anything comes next for Will and Thomas. This book is good for readers interested in spy thrillers and WWII.

With its masterful storytelling and rich, character arcs, this novel promises to captivate long-time fans and newcomers. Dive into the world of ‘Beehive’ and rediscover the enchantment that awaits in this mesmerizing series.
Oh my precious Will and Tom. A love story for the ages!! I was so thrilled when Beehive came out because after Hallum I thought we had reached the end with them but Casey delivered a phenomenal story to us once again!
I loved the plot, the thrilling risk of saving the world again, with Tom and Will forever showing their dedication and endless love to each other. Their love is an unbreakable force and no matter what they endure, they always do it together.
One thing I appreciate with this series is that even though they are in a time where their love is forbidden, we are shown side characters that support their love and find it as lovely and endearing just like they deserve.
The plot to Beehive was the perfect pace, had me questioning what would happen next, a wonderful, thrilling yet nail biting adventure.
My only complaint is that we didn’t get as many steamy sex scenes in Beehive as we did in the rest of the series, but I loved it all the same! Maybe in the final book Will and Tom will find a time traveling device so that I can go back and read it all again for the first time 💜
The continuing adventures of spies (and lovers) William and Thomas. World War II has ended and Europe is picking up the pieces. The allies are carving up Berlin into sectors while our boys are spending some down time in Paris but that calm is quickly over. There is important material being sought by the soviets hidden in some piece of art, Will and Thomas are assigned to find it. Assigned the roles of art recovery specialist and his bodyguard they infiltrate Berlin's greatest museum to complete their mission. There is great, heart-racing action in this story. And that keeps the book bouncing right along, I was on the edge of my seat for most of it. Will and Thomas are mostly on their own for this mission and appreciate that they weren't split up as much as the last book. It's nice to see how their relationship has progressed and to hear them dream about their future. Maybe that will be the epilogue in the final book (which I would love). These boys deserve to get their HEA and I can't wait to read it.
This series has completely hooked me, even as someone who doesn’t typically read historical fiction. From page one, you're immersed in a world of war, heartache, and intrigue. The blend of action, espionage, and intense stakes keeps you on the edge of your seat, always eager to see what happens next. In this book, Thomas and Will are enjoying a brief post-war reprieve in Paris before being assigned anither mission. They need to locate a statue before the Soviets get their hands on it. The story also brings back Artie, their college friend, whose new gadgets add an excitment to the adventure. The story combines historical details with thrilling action, and I especially appreciated the footnotes that provided helpful throughout the story. This is an absolute mustread, but I strongly recommend starting with the earlier books in the series to fully appreciate the characters and their journey. With hints of another potential adventure to come, I’m already looking forward to what’s next. I received this book to review and am leaving my thoughts voluntarily.
This is book 4 in the ‘Of Shadows and Secrets’ series and to fully enjoy this book you need to read the first 3 books in the series. It is possible to start with ‘Beehive’ but you will miss out on a lot of the backstory. If you start with book 4 you will want to go back and read the series from book 1. The synopsis is easily available so I won’t rehash it but I will tell you that I thoroughly enjoyed this book. You do have to suspend your beliefs to a degree but this is okay for me. I was involved with both the characters and the story from the first page. In ‘Behive’ Will and Thomas are a well established couple and I liked watching their relationship as it continues to grow. The story itself kept me reading. I had no doubts of the outcome but I liked watching them get there. I have no problem with recommending this book and this series to someone who enjoys historical thrillers. I was given a free copy of this book in return for an honest review.
Oh my goodness! I haven’t read the prior books, this was an ARC that was offered, and since I love the author, I jumped at the opportunity, and here is my voluntary review. What a book! It isn’t strict necessary to read the prior books, but I think they would enrich the story. This was so good! It reminded me of John LeCarré, just a light version of his books, but so good! And the history! I loved how the author was able to explain things from the very different points of view of each character, and there were some times that I felt really bad, because I was cheering on a bad guy! It was well written, I think that the few chapters with Heinrich were incredibly well written, and helped me understand a little bit more how people can blindly follow their leaders. It was a joy to read, very well researched in my opinion, and now I want to go back and read the previous ones because this one was amazing!
Historical, immediate post-WWII era thriller, #4 in a series. Will and Thomas are OSS agents living in Paris, helping the French while also keeping their eyes and ears open for activity by former Nazis and the Russians. They’re called to Berlin when Russian spies appear in great number searching for something.
Once in Berlin, the two make contact with Manakin and Stork, codenames for other OSS agents, as well as Loon, a female agent. Thomas and Will pose as Germans looking for art works to be reunited with rightful owners.
There’s not much romance in the book, Will and Thomas are an established couple; this is more thriller than romance. As a longtime reader of mysteries and thrillers, I found the story slow moving for about the first third of the book. It does pick up at about the point where Thomas and Will begin their charade as Germans, actually looking for the mysterious object that the Russians are looking for. The last third of the book goes at a breakneck pace, which made me feel like I had whiplash.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
In the next chapter for Will and Thomas, the war is over but they are sent back to help. Russia committed atrocities and they are searching for what the Russians want. As usual, in Casey's suspenseful, intense historical novels, you grit your teeth, try not to hold your breath and don't put this down until the conclusion. Then you only want more as you become addicted to the guys and their missions. It makes you remember reading "The Guns of Navarone", "The Great Escape", "Where Eagles Dare" and other great WWII adventure stories, adding to their number. My favorite quote from the book " the death of one man is a tragedy; the death of millions is a statistic" highlights the cynicism of the great loss of humanity. It is an unforgettable adventure. I received a copy of this book through BookSprout and this is my voluntary opinion.
Casey Morales never disappoints. In Beehive Casey masterfully combines humor, romance, and political suspense. The charming relationship between Will and Thomas draws you in with their witty banter and heartfelt moments, while the story's shift to espionage and global tensions keeps you on edge. The exploration of Soviet atrocities adds depth and historical weight, creating a compelling contrast to the lighthearted start. There's a pulse-pounding journey of love, loyalty, and risking everything when the stakes couldn’t be higher. Beehive seamlessly blends playful chemistry with high-stakes drama, delivering emotional depth and unpredictable twists that will leave you hooked and eager for more. Loved it!
I was so happy that Morales continued the Of Shadows and Secrets series with a fourth book. At the end of World War 2, William and Thomas are in Paris. The descriptions of the postwar city are so vivid that I could practically taste the coffee and pastries. The spies soon go to Berlin to find something hidden in an unspecified work of art. There is plenty of action and a few twists while the men are on their mission. There is a satisfying ending.
It is obvious that the author meticulously researched this time period and the cities. I found the footnotes rather interesting.
There are just a few secondary characters ranging from a grumpy Soviet military man who is responsible for them in Berlin, a female contact who can act as a safe house, and the German officer who hid the secret in the work of art. Arty (from Book 1) makes a brief appearance as the purveyor of things that spies need (think of Q from James Bond).
A fast-paced thriller filled with loads of action with a dash of romance. I can’t wait to see what mission William and Thomas are sent on next.
I really did enjoy reading this book about Will and Thomas. I was captivated by Casey's writing about post war WWII. Will and Thomas, OSS Agents, living in Paris post war describing a city as people trying to rebuild their lives, as Will and Thomas navigate to their next meeting so they can obtain their assignment. I did not read the other books in the series....However, I was able to follow easy enough along their quests. I would highly recommend reading the series as I am sure they offer alot more back story to these characters. I really enjoyed the story plot, the mystery and spy thriller vibes, along with city's description made you feel as if you were there, and the romance between the guys was added bonus.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Beehive by Casey Morales is the fourth book in the Of Shadows and Secrets series. In the previous books we know how Will and Thomas met and how they fell in love, and although you don’t need to read the previous books because Beehive can be read as a standalone, I recommend reading the other books in the series because they are great reads.
In this book, in their mission, Thomas and Will are sent to Germany to recover a piece of art stolen by the Nazis during WWII. The story is engaging, it had me hooked from the very beginning. They go to Berlin, and they have to find the artefact before the Soviets, who are also looking for it.
I recommend this book. I really enjoyed it, I couldn’t put it down; I needed to know what was going to happen next.
I received an ARC from the author for free, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.
OMG this is so good. Will and Thomas are back for their latest adventure. It's 1946, the war is over and it's time to rebuild. The Soviets are up to something. All OSS knows is it involves art of some sort and involves "the Keeper" whatever that means. Thomas and Will's mission is to ferret out what that means, retrieve "the Keeper" and return it to the US. This is Casey at his best. Fast paced with romance and betrayal thrown in. You can feel the danger all around our boys as they break curfew to meet up with their local handler. Casey research is through and complete with footnotes.
I enjoyed the change to post war Paris and especially appreciate that Will and Thomas are actually together a lot in this new story. I loved seeing how far they’ve come together and the pst war world is still dangerous as the pair investigate why the Soviets are suddenly lurking around Berlin. This is such a fraught and fascinating period in world history and such a great backdrop for Will and Thomas. I’d love some focus on the romance side but hopefully these two will get their own big happy ending. A skillfully written and diligently researched historical romance, I’ve definitely been enjoying the ride.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Another brilliant addition to the Of Shadows & Secrets series! I love how Casey Morales weaves real historical details about espionage techniques from WWII and beyond into the story—it makes the spycraft feel so authentic. The tension of post-war Europe, the shifting alliances, and the race against time to uncover a mysterious artifact kept me on edge.
And, of course, the romance is the perfect cherry on top. The love story feels just as vital as the action, adding emotional stakes to every high-risk mission. If you love M/M historical spy thrillers with heart, Beehive is a must-read!.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I could not put this book down. I've read quite a few books on WWII, but none gripped me like this one. We got to see the war from multiple sides that are not typically shown. I particularly enjoyed the main characters interactions with each other, and the chapters from the Nazi's POV. It is so fascinating to see the point of view of the other side, and be put into the mindset of someone so entrenched in propaganda and brainwashing. With today's political climate, it is important to remember these times in history, and remember why we can never let them repeat. This book should be in the hands of as many people as possible. Bravo.
Book 4 of Will and Thomas' story is so good. You will need to read ALL 4 in order. I'm always torn on whether I want a series about one couple or an inter connected series about multiple couples because adhd and I get bored easily. With Will and Thomas, and the Of Shadows and Secrets series, it's so interesting and there's so much to figure out and follow, that I didn't "wander off" at all. Also, as always, Casey's writing is immaculate. It's a pleasure reading anything that this author writes.
This is such a gripping series. Every book has had me completely captivated and this was no exception! As Will and Thomas embark on a mission full of espionage and intrigue we are pulled in by the excellent word building and kept hooked until the end! I love the fact it is set post war as it is so rare to get mm storyline this good set in the past!.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Beehive by Casey Morales is a delightful mix of charm, humor, and sizzling romance. With witty banter, irresistible characters, and just the right amount of sting, this book proves that love—like honey—is worth the mess. If you’re looking for a romance that’s as fun as it is heartfelt, get ready to fall head over wings for this one!.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A historical read that full of mystery, intrigue and espionage. A year has passed since the war, Will & Thomas are in Paris helping Paris get themselves readjusted to life after. They are pulled back into their undercover days for the US to find out why Russia is suddenly overtaking Germany looking for a specific artifact. Travelling through the streets of Germany they are saddened to see what has happened & still happening now in the hands of Russia. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Anyone reading this book likely knows of Will and Tom, their relationship, and their dangerous adventures as spies during World War II in Europe. This work carries forward into the postwar period, illuminating the depth of Stalin’s desire to take over the continent while simultaneously projecting a righteous image. As usual this is a well-told story that keeps the reader alert for plot twists and celebrates the love between two men.
Beehive by Casey Morales is another amazing super secret spy romance! In this one Will and Thomas must steal an important object from inside Soviet controlled Berlin. They find betrayal and Soviet soldiers! It is harrowing, but has a lovely Happy Ever After that promises more adventures to come! I can't freakin wait to see where they go next! Romance - ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Steam - 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Humor - 🤣🤣 Angst - 😭😭😭 Writing - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I still can't believe that Morales makes Will and Thomas such teenage boys to continually break their covers and say and do things in places that they know are not safe. They should both be dead by now. The worse, luckiest spies in the history of thriller writing. It's like Abbott and Costello fumbling through a room full of monsters and knocking them out totally by accident. ( Okay, maybe not that bad, but please Morales, horndogs don't make good undercover agents.
