The town of Custer Falls never seems to quite heal from past events, but it's trying. What better way than with love?

David and Ashley's new job takes them down into the pit where an under-construction church collapsed. Their mission: to map and measure the newly discovered cave system. But what they find down there won't help anyone rebuild.

Doug, the contractor on both the old church site and a demolition job on a burned-down house, senses the change coming to his town. He's chosen a side, but the next 24 hours will decide if it's the right one.

Rae just woke up with a hangover after breaking up with her girlfriend and partying all night. She just wants to move on with her life and get away from all the hassles. If she can just get through the day, she knows everything will be all right.

None of them are ready for what they find inside them. But maybe, just maybe, love can prevail.

It Came From Inside is EXTREME HORROR containing graphic SEX, VIOLENCE, and GORE. You should not read this. You've been warned.

David and Ashley have taken a new job exploring a pit under a crashed church construction site. Their assignment is to map and measure the cave system located beneath it, which sounds easy enough.
Doug, the main contractor and their boss, senses that the collapse has changed something in Custer Falls, and it doesn't take long for his character to start making some questionable decisions.

Body horror, creepy crawling critters, and claustrophobia are apparently the perfect recipes for my personal nightmare fuel. I have loved visiting Custer Falls every single time Hitz has taken me there, but this was definitely one of my favorites. It's such a fantastic story packed with the most vivid and disgusting imagery, I think I need a hot shower after finishing this one.

I can always count on Hitz to deliver a fantastic gore riddled tale. No matter how nasty the gore the story never ever suffers, he is seriously a phenomenal storyteller. I am always eager to come back to Custer Falls and to see the madness.

I received a copy of this in exchange for an honest review.

Talk about creepy crawlie, tentacley body horror! With a claustrophobic cave system to boot! This book has so much going for it in the nightmare department. The cover is incredible as well.

I love the cursed town of Custer Falls, and diving into another extreme book, this time with bizarre and grotesque creatures, was like seeing a friend again. Yes, there is so much wrong in the town, but it’s really great to be back there anyways.

Join a young man and woman as they map the caves beneath town, their disgusting boss and his nasty family, and a crew of other possibly-doomed characters for a monstrous read.

I was left with a lot of questions about Rae. Rae, Rae, Rae…. What’s gotten into you?

A Horror Bookworm Recommendation
It Came From Inside by D.W. Hitz
https://horrorbookwormreviews.com/

Equipped with their helmets and flashlights, David and Ashley are hired to document and map an underground cave. Within the job site and the exploration of dark tunnels, the two discover something that is beyond their comprehension and has been dwelling below the town of Custer Falls.

D.W. Hitz brings forth his creations of mucus and bloodied creepy crawlers within a place few humans have ever seen. It Came From Inside is a skin crawling infestation of chaotic carnage. Custer Falls not only offers outdoor hiking, rock climbing and scenic drives, it also offers parasitic alien organisms. These slithering worm-shaped appendages provide some of the strangest scenes of metamorphosis I have ever read. It’s the slime covered chapters of creativity that are the gifts that keep on giving. (I believe the town’s motto is ‘just let it happen’)

D.W. Hitz does it again, what an amazing prolific author this guy is. I never get tired of reading his unsettling stories and the dark inhabitants of Custer Falls. His defined writing style is like an extreme/splatterpunk version of Willy Wonka. Each read is a unique experience that leads to a disturbing kind of trigger warning magic. If you want the full tour and the ultimate visit, I suggest you grab Custer Falls Extreme Horror Omnibus. D.W. Hitz you make the world weird, and for that we readers thank you. And lastly we have to mention the beautiful cover art by Matt Seff Barnes. Wow!

It Came From Inside is as fun as a barrel full of bodies. It felt like I smoked some Devil’s lettuce with a top off of ‘magic’ mushrooms. Hitz is a helluva drug. (I kid, don’t do drugs because if you do drugs you’ll go to prison, and drugs are really expensive in prison.) A Five Star ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Horror Bookworm Recommendation.

Did I just read a body horror romance!?

Yes, yes the fuck I did. It’s gross!!! It’s very wtfucky and it’s also kind of a love story! I love a book that can make you want to vomit and die within the first few chapters. IF I SEE A BEER BOTTLE AND A HAMMER NEXT TO EACH OTHER, I’LL SCREAM 🔨 🍺 🔨

There’s tentacles too.

This is a wild, wild book!! The imagery is so detailed and vivid, that I pictured every scary and crazy part of this story! The book is filled with extreme horror, creepiness and lots of gore. It’s a very original story and I’m still pondering about what I read!
I’m somewhat disturbed from this story, but of course, in a good way!! I almost never get scared from books, but I’m happy to say this did give me some creeps!
This is a fast and short read because you won’t want to put it down! I had to know how this crazy story was going to play out. It’s super intense and I was on the edge of my seat the entire story!

Thank you to D.W. Hitz for a copy of this fantastic book!

This is the fifth installment in Hitz’s Custer Falls Extreme series, the books don't need to be read in order, but there are little links to each of them that are fun to read if you're familiar already. These books are all incredible in their own right, this one is outstanding, and all of them are likely to put you off ever visiting this town, which seems to be one of the unluckiest, blood and monster saturated towns in existence! 😉

The tension kicks in immediately, especially if you are a regular visitor to Custer Falls, along with a deep sense of claustrophobia. We arrive at 10th Avenue, and a familiar hole in the ground, a big old, church sized hole. But what exactly dwells within its deep, dark, eerie depths?

Hitz has a great way with his prose, that makes you picture every detail vividly, that has your senses fine tuned to every scenario, every feeling, sight, and sound, making you feel fully immersed in the story. A truly creeping sense of uneasiness and foreboding wraps itself around you and hugs you tightly for the entire, spine-chilling journey.

The first chapter was creepy and had me thinking “This is going to be good”, the second chapter was brutal and had me thinking, “Oh, this is gonna be SO good, " and the third chapter just confirmed that, “Holy Shit, this is going to be AWESOME!!” The visuals, especially when we first meet Orin, WOW! They literally gave me chills,🖤 and a massive adrenaline rush! Orin seems like a crazy eccentric living in his mansion up in the mountains, surrounded by snow, but he is SO much more than that! Orin is a formidable and terrifying being! And Hitz is a master at making your skin crawl right off your bones, and sending shivers to your very core.

It's a tough job, but someones gotta do it! The job is investigating some creepy caves, called the Bloodtooth Caverns, (if you're a Custer Falls regular, these will be all too familiar, adding that extra sense of dread for what might be coming) in the legendary town. The man for the job is David, and his assistant Ashley. David is immediately smitten with Ashley, drawn to her in the same way the reader is drawn into this story. When Ash and David get split up in the caves under pretty weird and creepy circumstances, they are eventually brought back together again, closer and stronger than ever before.

Doug, David’s boss, has another side to him, one his workers don't get to see…. if they're lucky that is! Along with his family, they like to entertain themselves and the odd guest, in a rather unique way.

Rae meanwhile, finds herself in a strange and scary situation, and as realisation of what happened hits, she fears for her sanity. She's changed, and not for the better it seems. But as she continues to discover a whole new persona, one with a taste for pleasure, pain, blood and death, it seems the transformation could be rather fun. She finds it gives her a new meaning in life, a hunger, for her life and for her destiny.

The Elders are behind all this, they want to return, to take over and take control, and they do that by squirming their way in. Into peoples minds, souls and bodies. Making their hosts able to lure others to them with uncontrollable lust and hunger, before they all join together and unite back at 10th Avenue!

With lots of unexpected and surprising, gasp out loud moments, and several brilliant twists and turns, this book is a kind of Hellish, Clive Barker-esque, fever dream of a love story! Intense and incredible, Hitz knocks it right outta the park, or huge cavernous cave, once again! 🖤

"Brett was behind her, his chest cracked open, and his hands nailed to the wall with what must have been his own rib bones. He was naked as well but missing his dick—only a red, crusted stub remained—and something struck Rae about his eyes."

Construction is taking place in this little town, with David and Ash being challenged with going down into the tunnels under the city to measure and test out the space in the caves. Unbeknownst to them, creatures lurk in the darkness, and fighting them off will prove to be the hardest thing they've ever faced.
We're introduced to a few other characters and their lives along the way, and they'll all come together for one particular reason.. to eat.

I must say I'm not exactly a creature feature book connoisseur, so I wanted to try out something different. There was tonnes of gore, some spicier scenes, and the book was really well written. It was incredibly descriptive, sounds, smells, were so graphic that I felt like I was in those caves or watching how the creatures took over their prey.

It was a little confusing at first how the writing jumped from character to character and at first you're wondering why and what this has to do with the story but you eventually get used to it and it all comes together right at the end.

This book gives The Descent meets The Faculty vibes, if that's your sort of thing, then you'll love this book.

It Came From Inside (Custer Falls Extreme Horror #5)
By D.W. Hitz

Releases August 12

This book reads like early Clive Barker on speed - things are happening almost one on top of each other, blood, skin, and eyeballs keep being thrown left and right, plus the surprises and the twists never stop, not even when you reach the ending!

I always enjoy a Hitz story and this one was no exception. This time I was left with many questions, however, since the action is totally unpredictable and very little is actually explained. Is Hitz setting up something major for his fictional town of Custer Falls? Hmmm...

In any case, this story is crammed with carnivorous worm-like creatures hungry to infest as many people as possible, creepy crawlies mimicking human flesh, sickening sexual predators, and, wonder of wonders, lots and lots of love! Yep, the book has some wonderful scenes of a couple already in love, another couple discovering their love for each other, and an old woman in love with her torturer. So much love to go around! Of course, faced with so many supernatural and human monsters, will love survive? Well, you'd be surprised...

It goes without saying that this tale is EXTREME. Hold tight because Hitz won't allow you to forgo the warnings! Worm your way into this burrow of horrors ASAP!

It Came from Inside takes us back to Custer Falls and, once again, there is no shortage of unpleasantness. Sure, the blurb hints at love, and you might find a bit of that here, but it comes cloaked in absolute torment and filth.

Hitz has done an amazing job creating a highly claustrophobic environment in this book. It’s creepy to say the least and the imagery he provides is enough to make your skin crawl and send you running. Unfortunately, in this book there really isn’t anywhere to go. Much like the characters, you have no choice but to face things head on and hope for the best. You’ll cringe, maybe even gag a bit, but I’ve come to expect nothing less when it comes to Custer Falls Extreme.

D.W. does it again. Why do I never learn my lesson by reading about churches? It never ends well. That's probably because I love the horrors. This book is no exception. To add to the spice, it's a body/extreme horror story that adds in one of my favorite tropes, claustrophobia.

A couple of people explore the hole under the collapsed church and discover secrets that were best left alone. There are plenty of guts, disgusting scenes, and all that good stuff. Did I mention, there's even romance? Yeah, but trust me it doesn't last long.

All I can ask myself is? Why Rae? That's all I can say.

D.W. you sick bastard, you impressed me again. Damn you!
Watch me read another church horror story because I'm a glutton for punishment and I love whining about it. Easy five star read.

David and Ashely are assigned to check out the massive cave underground where there used to be an old church. Being paid under the table, they can't refuse. Once there they're doing their job when they start to experience some interesting but weird things.

Doug is the boss at the construction site to where David and Ashley work. He assigns them their task and is on his way. He picks up this random woman for a fun time. Takes her home to grand dad. From there we see these 2 have a very interesting relationship and secrets kept in the basement

Rae suddenly wakes up with a huge hangover. She's at her friends house with 2 men but Rae doesn't remember much. Once she fully wakes up she realizes the carnage she's in and then she becomes...hungry.

Orin watches the town from above as his master plan is taking place. He's hungry and he wants to feed. He's tired of the snow and is ready to go. Welcome back to Custer Falls.

DW does it again! I really love all of DWs characters in each book! When they all collide, it's perfect! The gore was spot on and super descriptive at times which is something I eat it! This was shocking, gross, sexy, and overall so damn good! If you're not a fan of bugs and slimy things, brave yourself! Lol I highly suggest this great story!

My Review 😱😱😱
August has definitely started off with a bang because I think I just may have found a new indie horror author who is the epitome of extreme horror. It Came From Inside was so disgusting, but in the best way possible. I went blindly into this book without knowing what I was getting myself into.

The story is fast-paced, filled with blood, gore, and death, all blending in perfectly. Despite the long chapters, I never felt it was a drag or got bored, and the deeper I got into the story, the more I was pulled into the strange occurrences in Custer Falls.

In terms of character development, i felt D.W. managed to successfully weave the lives of the 4 characters, David, Ashley, Doug, and Rae, so well as they went through their lives, each experiencing something horribly 'invasive'. Each invasive experience was different to the last, giving me the extreme horror elements I was looking for.

For starters, Doug and his grandad are some of the most foul characters I've ever encountered, always making me question their humanity. Their use, abuse, and destruction of others were horrific and shocking. David and Ashley, who were both innocently drawn into this nightmare, completely got my sympathy, and Rae's transformation into a 'cannibal' was both revolting and compelling at the same time, forcing me to keep reading.

It Came From Inside is not for the squeamish, faint-hearted, or someone that has a hatred of worms or creepy crawlies. It's filled with extreme horror, gut-wrenching scenes, and a whole new level of disgusting that is both repulsive and fascinating at the same time.

Pls make sure to check your trigger warnings ⚠️ as there ARE A LOT. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Have you ever imagined yourself being tag teamed by some dude and his grandfather?! Wait no longer. 😂🤣😭

I don’t know why, but I really thought I was going to have to tone down my review style when it came to this book. I truly have no explanation other than I’m usually reviewing some unhinged splatterpunk story and regretfully assumed this was going to be on the tame side. 😅🫣

I was wrong… I was SOO wrong. 💀

Hitz delivered an unbelievable story that had me in a grip from start to finish. 🤌🏼 If you’re a fan of some extreme body horror, you must add this to your TBR. 🩸

The plot was also a 10/10 for me. Had a bit of claustrophobia mixed in, a back and forth but easy to read style with the chapters / characters and some unique depravity, oh and sprinkle in a little love. 😈

Like yasssss, this is truly what most people look for from an extreme horror, and this book knocked it out of the park from the writing style to the character development and beyond. 🙌🏼

Book releases on August 12th— it’s available for preorder now and will also be available on KU. Def add this to your TBR asap! It will not disappoint. 👏🏼

My first read by D.W. Hitz was Garrets’ Lodge, so I had no idea what I was in for with his extreme horror. Wow! The warnings are definitely necessary! There’s a lot packed into this short story - it’s disturbing and disgusting (in a good way), the creatures are terrifying, and the caves gave me the most claustrophobic feeling. If you’re into extreme horror, then I’m sure you’ll enjoy this one! I will definitely check out his other books in the series.

A Bibliophilia Templum Review
https://bibliophiliatemplum.wordpress.com/2024/08/12/it-came-from-inside/

The warning page at the beginning of D.W. Hitz’s It Came from Inside firmly states it “is a work of Extreme Horror. It contains scenes of graphic violence, sex. And gut-wrenching nastiness.” And this is all true. But for extreme horror aficionados, this is a brilliant masterwork of extreme cosmic horror.

The plot is fantastic, and the story is relentless and riveting. D.W. Hitz writes with a profound and ruthless intensity that will leave you breathless. The suspense created with skillful chapter breaks is both stomach-clenching and superb. Some of the creative twistedness will put your eyebrows in your hairline, but the graphic content and subject matter is disturbingly integral. And oh my gosh that ending!

Good news for the curious is that although this is Book 5 of the Custer Falls series, you don’t have to have to have read the others first (which I haven’t yet but absolutely will!). It can be read as a standalone, so brace yourself and dive on in!

Vivid characters, fast pace, gruesomeness, graphic nastiness, explicit content—It Came from Inside is an extreme horror must-read, shelf-worthy and highly recommended!

*I was fortunate enough to receive an Arc copy. That being said, my opinions are my own, and will differ from yours*

What happens if you put The likes of R.L stine, in a sinkhole, shower him with some more mature themes, than they normally handles? ....
In my opinion, you get something like this book.

Can't decide between a 3 and 3,5 stars, out of the 5 goodread and other places allows.

This book has traces/similarities with writers like R.L stine' "goosebumps." ⁶

Threads of suspense, some very clear horror sections but with a sprinkles of a larger plot/scope, than what the page count can handle.

Each part seemed to be cut way sooner than the writer wanted.
So some parts seemed a bit rushed/discombobulated.

The more raunchier parts were both wickedly evil and grotesque, while somehow managing to keep me reading.

(But with the setup and locations used for these parts, I wish more time was spent here. )

But despite these minor gripes, (and they are minor gripes).
I did enjoy my time reading more than not.
And would recommend if you like skin crawling suspense.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

In It Came From Inside, Hitz combines two of my absolutely least favourite things (claustrophobic caves and horrible creepy crawlies) into a gore-filled story that's going directly on my list of reasons why I should never visit a cave!

For the life of me, I don't know how there are any people left in Custer Falls. With everything that's happened there so far, if I was lucky enough to have avoided all of those monstrosities, I'd have been on the first bus out of town. If there aren't any buses, time to take the train. Shoot, I'd walk if I had to! Anything that would mean I wasn't going to be hanging around waiting for some bug/worm/scaly amalgamation to come eat me!

This one gave me the skin shivers. It's a very fast read, but no less creepy than Hitz's longer books in this series. And it had a happy ending! Sort of.....maybe not for certain people, but something was definitely happy at the end, so it counts in my book. It was sort of sweet, I suppose, in a wormy squiggly type of bodysnatcher way.

Custer Falls? Worst vacation destination ever! 10/10 do not recommend! What I do recommend, though, is reading this book and the other books in this series before it's too late, and you think a cozy family trip to the mountains might be a great idea!

Not a bad little body horror. For me personally it could have been a little bit longer to expand on some of the characters. However, I am aware that this is the 5th book in the series so there is the chance that they may have been introduced before. That being said it did not feel like you needed to read the previous books to get what was going on.

So what is the book about? Without spoiling it, it is about strange tentacles monsters that come from strange worms. It sort of has hints of “The thing”. (It makes sense trust me). As a book it leaves very little to the imagination, it is very graphic. This is not a bad read by any stretch of the imagination but at the same time will not set your world alight. Decent quick read or a read for the poolside if that mis your thing. Oh and the book strangely has quite a sweet ending which was refreshing!

It Came From Inside by DW Hitz
(Extreme Horror Novella)

First of all the cover - SO SO GORGEOUS!! I was immediately drawn to it based on the cover! I have read another ARC for DW Witz in the Custer Falls series called Stay Out of the Tub and adored it! So of course I needed this one!!

As I loved in the first one this has many character perspectives that change per chapter. It has disgusting twists and turns throughout! This one is much more raunchy and gorey than the first one I read. The descriptions are so gnarly and nightmare inducing and that ending OH. MY. GOD. Not what I was expecting at all!

This book was so beautifully disgusting! I had no idea what I was getting myself into with this one, and it sure was a crazy ride. D. W. Hitz did it again, and has proven that he's the best with these gory novellas. I enjoyed every gore soaked minute, and I was literally squirming in my seat while reading. Every time I felt an itch or my fan moved my hair, I freaked out a little inside. This was so much fun! I can't wait for the next one!

I thoroughly enjoyed 'It Came From Inside', the first book I've read by D.W. Hitz. The story is well-written, with an intriguing blend of horror, gore, and mystery. The long chapters did not hinder the book's pace, and I found myself becoming more invested in the strange events that occurred in Custer Falls as the story progressed. If you're looking for a book that will keep you on the edge of your seat, I highly recommend this one.

Filthy, disgusting, and gross… just how I like it 🤢

This book was great and I’m impressed, for reading something from an author I’ve never heard a word about.

I would definitely give this book 5/5 stars if it didn’t feel so rushed. Yes, I know that’s the point with it being 110 pages. If it was a bit longer, with a little more time and details with each character I’d love it so much more.

Still fun and bloody and disgusting 🤮🤮

This is the fifth installment in the Custer Falls series, and once again, it was a great read. It brought two things that creep me out (caves and creepy bugs) together, making this an incredibly uncomfortable read. As always with these books, it was extreme, filled with gore and gross imagery that burns the story into your brain. Be prepared to need a shower after reading this.
