During his student days, Kiyoka was invited by Yoshito Godou’s father to join the Special Anti-Grotesquerie Unit. In this collection of short stories, the beginning of Kiyoka’s military career and the nature of his connection with the Earth Spider are finally revealed! Also included is an episode from Miyo and Kiyoka’s happy married life.

There isn't much to say. It didn't hurt or added anything to the story of Miyo and Kiyoka. But it was cute
It was quite interesting to sneak peek into Kiyoka's childhood and life before meeting Miyo.
I also liked the story with intimate, almost romantic content. That was probably the best highlight of the book.
The story with Kiyoka getting drunk was lovely, too, and funny, as the man probably for the first time spoke openly about what he thought of Miyo, complimenting her. The other story where their roles flipped, was sweet, too.
I am disappointed in this. First of all, this series is call "My Happy Marriage" but all the volumes were set during their engagement. Finally they got married in the last volume, and we just get a short story collection of the past!! When is the story going to be about their marriage??? I feel like I don't want to continue with this series after this volume. I held out for 7 volumes and I get this bait and switch. And I dislike the messages in this volume so much.
Ok, next. I took issue wit the two stories specifically written for this volume. The first story, about how Kiyoka joined the unit. That message about dreams being a distraction and him realizing that he should fulfill his responsibility instead of shouldn't chase after his dreams. That is such a terrible message. I know that at the very end, there was a touch of narration that suggested that Itsuto would have supported his either choice, but that was not emphasized.
The other story, Prove of Love. That whole situation of art-enchanted presents is TWISTED. I can't understand how Tadakiyo can smile at that, they think it is romantic??? How Kiyoka didn't voice something? Break the other dolls! They just go their separate ways. Then, what is worse is the fact that Miyo thought it would have been acceptable because she belonged to Kiyoka. That is so twisted.
Those were my biggest issues. So unhealthy. Wouldn't have been so bad had this series not always been pure innocent romance, not toxic romance! Overall, found this volume super boring. It started with waaaay to much internal dialogue.
This volume is a bit of a surprise as it's a collection of short stories rather than a traditional light novel. That being said, each story is still enjoyable and the characters are still great, it's just a little harder to follow along and figure out where each story takes place as they aren't in a linear timeline. While we don't see much of Miyo outside of the more recent timeline, we get a fair bit of information regarding Kiyoka's childhood, and even Godou's. It's always been clear these two are friends given how Godou tends to be way more energetic than Kiyoka, yet he trusts and relies on him a lot more than most of his squad, beyond just being an aid. From the author's notes at the end, the main two stories were written specifically for this volume as an official part of the storyline while the rest are various short stories that have popped up in random locations over time while working on the series, so those are more like small extras. The piece about Kiyoka's parents was especially surprising, though we still got several touching moments between Kiyoka and Miyo.

This series is called “my happy marriage” but the author chose to skip over the wedding entirely! I was really looking forward to their wedding after 7 volumes but sadly this book starts off 2 days after their wedding. I didn’t mind the book being a collection of short stories but the first story, which had nothing to do with Miyo, was so long that I started to flip through to see if she’s even a part of this book or not. The short stories overall were fun to read but there was no order to them. It felt a little unorganized. The part about Kiyoka’s dad spying on his wife was a little weird. It seemed like Kiyoka was against his dad invading his mom’s privacy like that but then he tells Miyo he might do the same to her and she agrees! That was a little crazy!! Overall, their story felt nicely wrapped up. I wouldn’t read this series again but I would consider reading other works from this author in the future.

DNF page 120 1/5📚 0/5🌶️ Now that they’re married, is someone really interested in Kiyoka‘s past? Especially the past about how he joined the military? Because I’m surely not and hoped for a lot of marriage content from the both.
The series is called „my happy marriage“ and the marrying part was 10 pages long max and so far we only had two short scenes of them being a married couple… what’s the point of this series if not to show their marriage? And the two short scenes weren’t even cute or romantic or anything. The built up tension from the other volumes gave us more couple content than the scenes of them actually being married. Kiyoka seemed distant, Miyo acted like ther old scared self again, this sucked so bad. I lost all interest in continuing this story.
What i think is the last one is a collection of short stories. Some better then others. The first finally explained why Godou lost his father and where he found fault in kiyoka. I cant say i agree but i think it finally shows their age difference and Godou was naïve/young enough to not understand why his father died and blamed it on his perceived older brother. Personally i didnt really connect or get really into the other smaller short stories, they are just nice. The second largest one was after Miyo and Kiyoka got married and visited his parents. Their intimacy is shown and its really cute and fluffy, very satisfying after reading 8 books of slow burn
As the author said in her acknowledgements, this was a collection of short stories she had written before and 2 original pieces. Consequently, it was very disjointed and entirely out of order. There were some cute moments, sure, but the lack of forward movement in the plot or much character development was a huge let down. The best chapters were the one explaining Kiyoka's past that led him to the military anti-grotesquerier unit and the one in chronological order following the previous volume in which they recover from everything they just went thru. I don't really think it was a good idea to use volume 8 as a short story anthology. Looking forward to a real next volume.
First off..there is no form whatsoever of a wedding. That leaves me disappointed. Most of the books are about Miyo's abuse, and when she is with Kudou why aren't they planning a wedding? Nothing about a happy marriage in this volume. I would have written this differently. The first chapter of this would have been about the wedding. If the author wanted to, then the other chapters could have been Kudou's back story along with Godou. Then I would have been happy. Oh, well onto another book I might like.
A collection of short stories involving Kyoka and Miyo. Disappointing, hence the low rating. I expected the next volume in the series would be about their wedding. Instead we get some disjointed unpolished stories. The backstory of Kyoka’s gift is gloomy, and the story about his mother and father is rather creepy. And those stories about Kyoka and Miyo assume they’re married. I can’t help but wonder if the author’s publisher pressured her for a new release when she wasn’t ready with a complete well-written piece.
This series is by far one of my favorites. I was a bit disappointed that the author took a break from the main story line for this collection of short stories. Still a great read and does give a lot of background information. The glimpse into their married life was also wonderful.
This book is a great book of short stories and definitely leaves things open for continuing books which in the afterword said he would continue writing. I loved the insight into Miyo and Kiyoka’s marriage and how they are fairing. And various things that happened during the engagement like the team building episode. I really hope we get another book and season 3 needs to be announced!!!
Personally I'm not a big fan of short stories, I prefer at least a novella, with my main preference being novels and series. But I love these characters and it was really nice to get little snippets of their lives.
If you are a fan of the series you'll likely enjoy this collection of short stories.
Collection of short stories! I wasn’t aware these were all short stories. I was a little upset the story didn’t actually continued, but ended up liking all the little stories. I enjoy reading anthologies from the same universe of the books I love. So I do recommend reading this book, just know they are short stories from before and after they got married.
To call it a volume is misleading… should have just made a separate short stories collection honestly. The first part, Long Rains Abate was awesome. Great backstory on Kioka and Godou’s character development. The rest was just boring short stories that really didn’t delve much into the plot.
And as usual, the English version had poor editing and spelling mistakes, like volume 7.
I liked hearing about Kiyoka's story of joining the military and liked to see more of their honeymoon. I just wish that we could have a chapter showing more of Miyo's past, but it still is a very good read for this point in the story.

I wish I'd known going into this one that it was just a collection of short stories. I wanted more story progression. It wasn't *bad* but it wasn't what I wanted.
I was kind of disappointed when I opened this book and it was a series of vignettes, not a continuation in the series. On the other hand, it was fun to see the snap shots.
