Rate this book
With all the loving descriptions and attention to detail of a memoir, Karl F. Hollenbach’s Anecdotes and Special Notes is at times humorous, and at others reflective. It travels across a wealth of memories that are both fond and deeply profound; demonstrating some of the most formative moments of a young man’s life.

From the innocent games and relationships of childhood in the 1930’s all the way to Europe in the final grips of World War II, Hollenbach recalls the finest of details, and delivers his observations with a keen eye, and the clear voice of a true storyteller. The “Special Notes” associated with many anecdotes; add an element of insight that is as unforgettable as it is enthralling.

This book is a rare gem in its ability to transport the reader backwards in time to some of the most turbulent and important days of American history in the 20th century. Intensely personal yet completely relevant, Anecdotes and Special Notes is for anyone who has ever enjoyed listening to stories while gathered at the table or near the fireside.
