Pain has been Michael Wilson’s constant companion for the last five years… until a terrifying and protective dragon shifter breaks him free from his prison. But freedom isn’t what he expected. Michael has trouble adjusting to the present when all he can think about is the past. And then there’s Doyle—infuriatingly possessive yet distant at times. Michael’s constantly told he can’t be with Doyle. Grief has left its mark on Doyle, and he can’t move past it… but maybe with Michael’s help, he could.
Doyle Lessard is immediately taken the moment he spots Michael fleeing for his life. But Michael can’t be his. After the man he loved was murdered, Doyle’s merely a shadow of his former self. He’s not fit to be anyone’s mate, let alone someone as sweet and trusting as Michael. Michael has to stay far away from Doyle for his own good. Justice for his former mate is what drives him… but what if fate sent Michael to him for a reason?
“Doyle” is an M/M dragon shifter romance and the second book in the Sky Stead series.
This is the second book in the Sky Stead series. I would recommend reading this series in order but you could still enjoy this as a standalone read. This is the story of Doyle and Michael. Doyle is a dragon shifter and belongs to the small Sky Stead pack. He has lived for the past decade with only one goal in mind. He wants revenge for Liliana's coven of black witches and warlocks killing his white witch mate, William. He is just bidding his time. Michael is a fox shifter who has been imprisoned Liliana for the past five years. She has been using him as her personal familiar to boost her powers. When Michael seeing s chance to escape he takes it. If he is caught he will be killed but that is better than being locked up in a cage all day. Just as he thinks he is about to die, he is rescued by Sky Stead and grizzly shifters. Doyle is the one to find and protect him. The two immediately bond. Both recognizing the other for the pain that they feel inside. This is their story. This is an action packed book. The book is well written and easy to read. I liked how Michael didn't bounce back to his former self immediately after being rescued. Trauma like that takes time to recover from. He can't seem to feel safe except when he is with Doyle. But Liliana isn't willing to lose her pet familiar that easily. The battle is still to be fought. I really enjoyed this book and I look forward to the next book in this series.

'Something had changed within me when I found him. When I entered this fight, all I could think about was avenging William and finally putting an end to Liliana. But now? I was looking forward to getting to know Michael better. The chaos around me seemed less daunting, the danger less menacing. Every day since William’s death had been a struggle to live, but for the first time in a long while, I felt a spark of hope.'
I loved this book. Hurt/comfort is one of my favorite tropes. Poor Michael was taken captive by Liliana and her coven and kept in a cage for so many years, even his fox doesn't speak to him anymore. Doyle and his people were fighting the black magic coven to protect the innocent people and children they were kidnapping and lost his mate. Now a century later, he still grieves William's loss, and vows revenge when news that the disappearances have started again. The dragon shifter never expected Michael, but all his protective instincts take over to keep him safe.
They were so sweet together. For all Michael's been through, I liked that he wasn't broken, just a little unsure and timid, and adjusting to freedom. But very comfortable with and trusting of Doyle.
of affection and intrigue in this story. Doyle is the dragon shifter who lost his mate William, to a dark witch Liliana. Now it is years later, and he is on a mission to find her and exact his revenge for the loss of his mate. The dragons were told that the witches and warlocks had three shifters, when they rated their coven, there was only one survivor and that was Michael. Michael and Doyle were fated mates, it was now Doyle‘s job to ensure that Michael was safe from Liliana and her coven. I enjoyed this story and the interaction between Doyle and Michael as they grew to love each other and also fighting to be free of Liliana‘s coven and Michael to no longer be her familiar. It was only when Michael was endangered that Doyle was able to focus on, breaking the spells that the dark witches and warlocks wave when they kept trapping the dragons. The story ended in a happy ending with Doyle and Michael living happily ever after.

"The chaos around me seemed less daunting, the danger less menacing."
This is book 2 in the Sky Stead series by Fel Fern. I read the first one via Booksprout and when I saw this one pop up, I just had to have it.
I didn't enjoy this one as much as the first book in the series. For some reason I didn't feel the connection between the two main characters, there just seemed to be a disconnect. It might be the fact that Doyle had a previous mate that he is still grieving that makes him standoffish.
The battle still continues between the black magic coven and the Sky Stead pack. I see there are four books listed so I can't wait to see what happens in Ivan's book next.
Hurt/comfort, mates, off page death of a mate, Liliana is playing a long game
Some really yuk bad guys! Doyle, is on a mission thinking his team may have finally cornered Liliana, ready to end her! She is a dark witch who kidnaps and feeds off shifters, largly reponsible for wiping out dragons. Instead, Doyle and his team find a survivor, Michael. Mike's been held captive for 5 years. He has not been conquered, but he is surviving on his reserves. He takes his shot and escapes while the Coven is devolving into chaos fighting Doyle's team. Doyle's and Mike's relationship flows into a mutually wanted crushfest. This is a sweet story, but the nuances of trust and black magic add mystery, uncertainty and lots of action. Makes you wonder how many black witches are out there. Good story, niee cover art. Well done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Doyle lost his mate decades ago, but still isn't done grieving. Michael has been captured by black witches and kept caged for five years. When witches' place is attacked, Michael meets Doyle. The two broken shifters find kindred-spirits in each other. And slowly they help one another heal. But the witches aren't done yet...
I really wanted this to be longer, some of the scenes went by too fast. I enjoyed the tense atmosphere, knowing that something would go down but not when and how.
One track mind, Doyle is steadfast in bring revenge to Lilliana and her coven of witches. And for good reason - destruction of shifters. Shifter Michael, has been held captive for five years and his team finds him. After he makes his escape, it is surprising how strong he is after all he's been through. So much chaos while trying to become mates was a ride in of itself. Yet it was all worth it.

Another great dragon shifter book. Doyle lost his mate to the black witches many years ago and it was only due to William leaving his handprint over his heart that enabled Doyle to survive his death. Michael is a fox shifter that has been a captive of the black witch coven leader as her familiar for five years. Michael escapes during an attack by Doyle and his pack and Doyle saves him and takes him to Sky Stead. They discover they are mates but Michael is slowly coming to terms with the missing years and his father. This is a must-read page-turner.
This is book two in the series and it was another good addition. This is Doyle’s story after losing his mate William to the black witch coven led my Liliana what keeps him going is his need for vengeance but then he finds Michael who has been held in captivity by Liliana and he gets a new purpose to keep and protect Michael but when the danger comes for them they stand together and finally defeat Liliana and get their chance to both heal and get their Hea. Looking forward to Ivan’s story next.

I liked how he was escaping when Doyle found him and helped him. There was an instant connection between Doyle and Michael. Unfortunately Liliana was still out there and entanglements were still in force. I'm glad they finally dealt with her and were free to mate. I liked the part about Doyle's first mate William.
Michael a fox shifter was taken by a black witch coven five years ago, and kept in a cage. Lillian Payne the head of the coven keeps him as her familiar. He escapes when the dragon shifters are battling the witches. Doyle a dragon shifter had lost his mate William to this same coven, and sees Michael running from the house. This story is full of danger, drama, magic and love.
Michael was held captive by the black withces for five years. When he was finally able to escape he runs into Doyle. Doyle is still grieving his last mate and wants the black witches to pay for what they have and are doing. Doyle and Michael both given a second chance to live, love and have a HEA.
While going to clean out a coven Doyle finds his mate. Michael has been held captive and brainwashed. The two me find the mating pull very strong and together fight to bring down an evil witch. Love this addition!.

This was a sweet book. If you are a fan of insta love this is the book for you. These two were great with each other. They had an instant bond that helped one another not feel so lonely in the world.
For future me: Dual POV Shifter Insta Semi bond before smexy No cheating/sharing
Started out as I expected; but, it only continued with small things, so the story was different enough to be very good and all its own. These dragons are not the usual and have suffered intense physical and emotional pain. The black witches are very evil. Unfortunately, the coven is still alive. Maybe next book, it might be destroyed. Looking forward to the next book.
Michael was held captive by Liliana's coven. Doyle lost his mate and the only thing keeping him going was him wanting revenge. They meet when Doyle saves Michael from the coven. This was good. I love Doyle and Michael's relationship. The fear Michael has and the strength Doyle provides.

Mais uma aventura na luta contra o mal, e aqui temos o final de um clã que não merecia existir, mas era necessário para poder ter uma história, adoro. E o casal encontra a felicidade juntos durante uma breve loucura contra a morte.
This is the second book in this series and really should be read in order. This time Doyle gets his chance at a HEA but it won’t be easy. I really enjoyed this story.
This is the 2nd book in the MM pnr shifter Sky Stead series. This time dragon Doyle finds his mate in fox shifter Michael when he rescues him from black witches & warlocks. Finding their comfortable normal is not as straight forward as they and I as a reader would expect. Doyle has lost hos former partner a white witch. Michael has to cope with having been a captive for several years. Challenges an enemies have to be battled and overcome. Will healing and love prevail? I enjoyed being back with this small clan of dragons battling Liliana and her fatefuls. It has a good mix of romance and suspense and I found myself gravitating to this read when I had time to myself to find out ehat happened next.
