In a remote village tucked away in the serene Japanese countryside, life unfolds at a leisurely pace. Yet, for Mariah Brooks, an outsider in this tranquil setting, life is anything but. Her only sanctuary is the lab, where she immerses herself in her research, the sole beacon of purpose in her life.
As a geneticist, Mariah has dedicated her life to uncovering the secrets of the genome and unlocking all its potential. Now, after countless setbacks, she feels she’s finally on the cusp of a breakthrough; a new genetic therapy capable of repairing any diseased gene. However, her superiors at Hourglass Genetics do not see the same promise as her. When the project is abruptly canceled, Mariah is left with two abandon her life’s work or go down fighting.
Refusing to give up, Mariah sets out to prove everyone wrong. But her ambition takes a dark turn, leading to unexpected and disastrous results. An abomination is born, a creature with no Godly purpose. When that creature escapes its containment, the situation spirals out of control, and things only go from bad to worse.
Now, with the help of some unlikely allies, Mariah must race against the clock to find the creature and put it down. Although seemingly simple enough, it proves to be a far bigger task than any of them imagined. To make matters worse, the creature is quickly finding its place in the food chain. Driven by a ravenous hunger, it stalks the countryside, looking for its next meal. Unfortunately, that might be us.
