Kassie Kepter and Casey Jones return back to Oxford University after their winter break with their secrets in tow and locked away tightly, but they're about to resurface. Casey's father, Phil's secrets from twenty years ago are brought to light and throws Casey into a spiral of depression; her grades are slipping, she's sleeping twelve hours a day and can't seem to muster the energy to take a shower- that is until a student is found dead in the woods off campus. Casey and Caitlyn go to investigate, pulling Casey out of her funk but as she starts finding clues and over turning stones, her sleuthing starts pointing in a direction she wishes it wouldn't. Kassie is no longer creatively blocked but has become unhinged and reckless in her behavior, good thing she has someone to keep her on the straight and narrow this time - or will she drag them down with her?
Overview: Kassie and Cassie are back at Oxford University after a devilishly delightful and family drama fueled break. They are looking forward to getting back into their normal routine and keeping their pretty little secrets hidden away. However the unraveling of the tangled web of family secrets throws Straight A student Casey into a downward spiral and our murderous fashionista Kassie becomes more unhinged and impulsive in her behaviour.
What I enjoyed about this book:
🔪 Getting to know more about Kassie - thought Kassie was an interesting character in the first book, but I felt I didn't get to know her all that well in this book. This book had more focus on Kassie, learning more about her feelings, motivation and actions. Some of her actions were surprising and unexpected in this book but I felt I understood them more than in the first book... And in saying that....
🔪 The twists and turns - I thought I had an idea from the first book to what might come next. There are many things in this book that surprised me and I did not see them coming. There were many times I became Michael Scott from The Office yelling "No. Oh God No."
🔪 The pacing of the book. This book felt quicker and more thrilling than the first book. I read this in a couple of sittings as I wanted to know what was going to happen next and where it was all going. I was hooked right in.
I am looking forward to the next series and seeing how it all ends.
'Deceit' is the second book in a trilogy and it DOESN'T suffer from filler book syndrome. After reading 'Prestige,' my expectations were sky-high and 'Deceit' took me to outer space!🚀
Following their winter break ❄️ with dark revelations about self and family, best friends Kassie Kepter and Casey Jones return to Oxford University for their studies. However, sharing a room with your best friend when you have secrets to hide can get suffocating. 🥴 Especially when you have newfound serial killer tendencies 🩸🔪 and your BFF is interning with the police!👮🏻♀️A new addition to this friendship duo comes in the form of Caitlyn, which side will she take?🤔
I absolutely adored the passion with which Kassie designed her dresses 👗 and committed crimes (Oh, the thrill of the double life 🎶). This book had me wondering how close to criminal life the author might actually be 🤭 because it was so well-researched. 🤌🏻The concept is fabulous!💝
This book is one-of-a-kind and you HAVE to add it to your TBR ASAP!🌟 I cannot wait for Guilty (book 3) and I'm so glad I stumbled upon @catherinefrendt_author 💖
“Deceit” is book two in the trilogy and it totally blew me away 🚀 No filler, just drama, secrets, and the thrill of Kassie’s double life 👗🩸. The story is wild, clever, and impossible to put down. If it’s not on your TBR yet, it should be! 🌟 Can’t wait for book three! 💖
