Good collection of articles and little features on Hello Kitty over 50 years of cuteness. Loved the timeline, overview of her origins and growth, mini bios of her family and friends, section on video games, Q&A from her designer, fashion photography, and discussion of Kitty as sexist vs. empowering (she's empowering, duh 🥰).
I think the issue could've been better with more photos or infographics sprinkled in there to balance out the lengthy articles. Would have loved a spread of the oddest Kitty-adorned items, the oldest products, etc. More info about the TV shows would've been interesting, especially because several articles mention the "no mouth" controversy but fail to mention that she gets a mouth in the 80s with Hello Kitty's Furry Tale Theater. Lovely celebratory Time issue though! Definitely recommend for fans.
This kind of just reiterated the same information again and again—but I guess I somewhat get it because Sanrio doesn't exactly seem to release too much information about Hello Kitty. I'm not really sure I learned much from reading this; I was hoping for more. Nonetheless, I love Hello Kitty and think Sanrio has a pretty great business model going on with their 476465465 brand partnerships.
