Devil's Delirium

Rate this book
I never thought I'd volunteer for the deadly Halloween battle royale, but here I am, ready to risk it all.

A haunted mansion. Desperate supernaturals. One champion. One survivor.

Every year, they come for fame, fortune, and the “Beast of Blood Moon” title. But this time, the stakes are higher than anyone knows. My enslaver, a tyrant mage, is competing. If he wins, his evil will know no bounds. The world doesn't know what's at stake. Only I can stop this hidden demon from unleashing chaos.

The mansion reeks of death and dark magic. Every shadow could be my last. The moment the clock starts, I'm rushed by Reaper—sinfully sexy, enigmatic, deadly. He should be my enemy, but why does he want to help me?

As the clock ticks down, I'm faced with an impossible choice. Trust Reaper and risk it all, or face my enslaver alone? The way Reaper looks at me—like I'm a piece of candy he can't wait to devour—there are worse ways to spend my last night on earth.

But am I just trading one psycho for another? In this game of death and desire, just about every decision could cost me everything.

I write about emotionally repressed, occasionally unhinged heroines who might accidentally burn the world down while trying to figure out their feelings. If they’re making questionable life choices for sexy, morally grey, supernatural reasons? Even better.

An American expat living in the UK with a mild addiction to plotting and worldbuilding new stories I don't have the time to write, I’ve spent most of my life as a high-functioning chaos creature (poorly) disguised as a responsible adult. My natural habitat is somewhere between “deep philosophical rabbit hole” and “feral gremlin hoarding obscure trivia and cursed story ideas.”

I'm into demons, darkness, and depravity—which probably says more about me than I should admit. But hey, I've never cared about that before, why start now? When I'm not writing about magical, steamy bedlam, I’m reading it. Or attempting to parent young humans without turning into a cryptid. Depends on the day.

I must say my first experience with Dahlia T. Drake was an enjoyable one. Devils Delirium is a paranormal romance with some nasty naughty spice, but it also has a solid story too. Overall, it is well written, shows some great character development, I personally loved the setting and atmosphere and obviously the smut was a nice bonus!

I really liked Tess's character, and I felt so horribly for her at times. I also quite enjoyed Reaper!

I received a copy of this in exchange for an honest review.

Devil’s Delirium is a dark PNR with one unhinged dark Angel named Maverick and Tess, a witch. I went on with an open mind and didn't know what to expect and honestly, I was blown away.

I already have a Reaper obsession going in so Imagine my surprise when one of the main characters' name is Reaper. Chefs kiss. I was like a fox in a hen house. I fell in love with him and his witty humor.

I love the dark haunted house meets battle royale, with a Halloween background, add PNR and you have one happy Crystal.

Please note I received an Advance Reader Copy of Dahlia T Drake’s Devil’s Delirium and this Review may contain spoilers! In addition, it is also much darker, racier and violent than any of her other series!

A haunted mansion. Desperate supernatural's. One champion. One survivor.
Take a walk on a much darker path than Dahlia’s usual novels with her new very different series.

Life hasn’t been easy for Tess but sometimes it takes that one extra hurdle or in Tess's case a vision, for her to decide to stop her boss from winning the Devil’s Delirium contest that is held on Halloween. One winner out of 100 participants 99 dead!
While Tess's reason is somewhat altruistic, Reaper's is curiosity about the guy who has been running the contest for the last three years. In a one for all situation these two strangers join forces to make it to the end and stop Ivan (Tess's boss) from winning and carry out the plan he told Tess about. Along their way they come across various situations, it’s a haunted mansion after all and former residents are just as depraved as the majority of the contestants!
The attraction between Reaper and Tess practically hums off the page (or screen if you’re reading it digitally) it’s definitely NSFW and better than some other racy novels out there in my opinion.

I read a lot of different genre’s and loved reading this extra direction Dahlia is exploring, I already know that I will be buying the entire series and hope to ARC the rest too.

A haunted mansion. Desperate supernaturals. One champion. One survivor.

What a pleasant surprise read was this!

I devoured the first half off this book and hated that I had to put it down because, well you know life…
Luckily the rest of the book was just as interesting.
This book was Dark, Unpredictable and the plot is super interesting. Though I’m not really sure where it’s leading yet. Did I mention? Unpredictable…
The characters are chefs kiss.

I even think I’m starting to have a Reaper addiction.
Like I’ve said before, in other reviews,

This book is for all the girls who think the Grim Reaper f*cks like a god.

🖤I too would bang the Reaper💀🖤
Especially one as fine as Maverick

I read this book as an ARC and gave my honest opinion.

I don't even know where to begin—but that's not necessarily a bad thing! There was a lot going on in this book. It started off intense yet somehow felt slow at the same time. Based on the description I wanted to LOVE this book, but it took a bit to really draw me in. And holy fuck, the FMC's decisions in the early chapters left me confused. She’s written as both strong but also SCARY AF which I get but it still creates a bit of a contradiction in her character. One minuteshe's traumatized and can't speak up; the next, she’s jumping into a deadly competition she clearly isn’t prepared for, which had me wondering, "What in the actual fuck is happening?"

It wasn't until much later that the author explained things - sort of - but the pacing and order of some of the story didn’t make this clear and I'm sitting there like soooooooo why is this relevent. Then there are flashbacks that felt rushed and didn’t seem to flow well with the rest of the narrative. They sometimes felt like they were thrown in without enough context, making it hard to follow how everything connected.

However...... once we get to the meat and potatoes of the story—the Haunted House—the pacing picks up, and the chemistry between the two main characters was mmm mmm good. I absolutely loved the banter between them. The MMC is that perfect blend of cocky, possessive, and dangerously confident, and their interactions are filled with tension that you just can’t get enough of. There’s a "touch her and die" and "I'm gonna fuck the shit out of you" vibes that of course made me all tingly... 🥴🥴🥴

Speaking of tingly 😏😏😏 the smut was smutttttingggg! You don't have to wait super long because builds quickly, and the scenes are as yummy as fuck - the smut talk was *wipes drool* ok (lol). There is some Dom/Sub themes, a touch of BDSM and it was the smut I needed in my life!

The story does end on a cliffhanger, which left me like for the love of all that is holy WHYYYYY —I'm pissed AF this is an ARC and I'm going to have to wait a while to see how this story pans out. FML

Overall, this book was both frustrating and captivating. It started off rough, and the FMC's choices seemed super weird at times, but once it found its footing, it was a compelling read. But I need to explain thoroughly. The story is there, the plot is there, this has SOOOO soo soooo much potential and I'm 100% invested. I just need to understand things a bit more - and those explanations weren't there and didn't give me the "wait and find out" feel. It gave me the "Wait what the fuck did I miss" or "Why is this happening" feel. If that makes sense. Either way - I'm anxiously waiting for the next book! This was a fun one 😏😏

This is my first story by Dahlia T. Drake and wow this was very much an extremely dark paranormal romance.

The cover of this really conveys a sense of the horror in this. The Devil's Delirium a gladiator style free for all with the door being locked on All Hallow's Eve till the sun comes up with the expectation of only one person/creature being left standing in this haunted mansion.

Tess is our female main character who cut a deal with her boss when she was a teenager with nothing and he tricked her into giving up her freedom to him with a magical deal and proceeded to completely abuse her. She see's competing - despite her lack of physical strength - in The Devil's Delirium as her only way to get out of the deal with her boss.

Reaper, our male main character and the second point of view, is an immortal demon who is being hunted by others from his realm to drag him back out the mortal realm with his own agenda joining the Devil's Delirium.

This story is very much a fast paced, spicy dark paranormal romance. There is nothing sweet or cute about this including in how the main characters romance turns out.

It is a genuinely very well written book, you really feel the horror and darkness and the backstory around the demon and supernatural culture starts to be revealed in this and i'm interested to see how this world-building continues.

This was my first experience reading Dahlia, and I can say with absolute certainty that it will not be my last.

Dark Paranormal Romance perfect timing for Halloween.

I was drawn in from the opening.
"A haunted mansion. Desperate supernaturals. One champion. One survivor."

This is a dual POV, and it was extremely smooth transitions. It felt very effortless to read. I was so caught up I finished the same day, which I hadn't planned for, but I couldn't stop reading.

Maverick (The Reaper) possessive/obsessive MMC
Tess (Tattoo Artist FMC) stong, resilient, seen some shit, been through some shit.
Ivan (Warlock) demented, deranged, unhinged

The connection between Tess and Maverick had me blushing and the spice 🥵 I absolutely think everyone enjoys dark romance should read this.

This does end in a cliffhanger as it is book 1 in the series, and I, the good girl that I am, will be patiently waiting for book 2 🧎‍♀️

As always with dark romance, please check the triggers warnings before reading.

Raunchy, foul language, you name it, but Dahlia created a total different dark writing style and created a total mind blast that left me at a loss for words complimenting her creativity with this book. Tess, Maverick and the mentality deranged Ivan characters had me fascinated. Tess, despite her deprived and abused life after being bounded by Ivan, was absolutely spunky and sassy, Maverick was a mind blowing cauldron of contradictions character, arrogant and bloodthirsty killer, yet he had a lovable side too. The end left me drooling for the next book.

Swipe for the Blurb 😊

I was lucky enough to be able to read this as an ARC read, and let me tell you… it was quite the read. It’s a dual POV and the transitions between the POVs are so satisfyingly smooth. There’s no backtracking when the POV switches, and chapters flow nicely. I finished this book in less than a day, and I enjoyed every moment of watching Tess and Maverick grow both together and separately, and I’ll be anxiously awaiting the next book in the series 😊

If you enjoy an FMC who is full of Whitty sarcastic remarks and determined to change the course of her life. Or an MMC who is possessive, obsessive, gives major touch her and ☠️ vibes , is dominant but knows when he should get on his knees (😏😏) then this is the book for you. There’s BDSM elements, demonic possession (not the MCs), and there’s also a few touchy subjects. So please as with any dark romance Read the Trigger Warnings!!

So unhinged that I went feral for it. I loved how unhinged this read was and the characters being how they were. Once the plot picked up I couldn’t put it down, everything was good and I was on my toes a lot through it. The cliffhanger really got me in the end and can’t wait for the next book

Holy monkey tits, this was a good book! It was longer than I initially thought, but I wasn't bored for a second. You just have to fall in love with Maverick! The smut was nice and smutty and the attraction between the characters was strong. It ends with a cliffhanger that leaves me wanting more, so I'll definitely read the next books!

Urban fantasy with a battle royal trial on Halloween, and a Reaper with some shadow play? Sign me up!

This was a really fun read about a girl named Tess, who has been a slave to Ivan, and in order to stop him from gaining power, she enters into a battle royal where she meets the Reaper, Maverick.

Maverick is a little unhinged (think a playful joker), and is completely obsessed with Tess. When you think, touch her and 💀, or burn the world for her, that is Maverick. 🥰 He is a bit confused about why he is so possessed by her, and so he struggles to make some sound decisions when it comes to Tess, but you still kinda love the man anyway.

The story never had a dragging moment, and I was definitely hooked from the get go. I will say it starts with some heavy stuff, and to definitely read the triggers for some parts can be very dark. I am glad this book did not shy away from the topics, and it put into perspective who Tess is, what she has endured, and how she handles other situations when knowing about her past. She is very much a slave to Ivan, and you definitely get a taste of that.

What we don't get much of is about Maverick and the gang, Stone and Lux. We know they are running from something, but we aren't really given the details, which I am assuming will be part of the next book *hopefully* because I definitely want to know more about that.

Overall I really liked the book, and I am grateful I was able to get an ARC to experience the story and the characters. I am very much a simp for Maverick, ngl.

Mind the cliff in this book, and I am definitely excited for this series!

Tropes:
☑️ Touch her and 💀
☑️ Little bit of shadow play
☑️ Betrayal
☑️ Secret Identity
☑️ Dual POV’s (first person)
☑️ He falls first
☑️ Battle Royal
☑️ Cliff
☑️ JP/OP MMC

This is my first book by Dahlia T. Drake, and let me tell you that I loved every single bit of it.

Spice:🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️( SMOKING HOT SCENES WITH BDSM)
Stars: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Dark: 😈😈😈😈 ( NOT PITCH BLACK LIKE SOME OTHER D.R. BUT PLEASE CHECK TW’s)(SA TRAUMA)

I was excited to read this one just from the blurb, it sounded dark and dangerous, and I was all for it! The main characters were a chefs kiss. Tess is a witch, and is finding herself in this book. She has gone through a whole freaking lot, that leave you rooting for her! She is sassy, with a big heart. Maverick is scrumptious, dark, possessive in all the right places, and a complete SMARTA$$! I absolutely loved these two! Their witty banter had me chuckling, and I couldn’t get enough of them!! Even the side characters are something else. I need more of Oscar when we get another book.

This story starts out a little slow, but learning the background to these two were important for their story to be told. We have two very different people that end up at Devils Delirium by chance, or maybe fate. The haunted house gave me everything. Think of The Winchester House meets The Haunting!! Between the Battle Royal scenes, crazy ghost, and magic rooms, I was in heaven! Those scenes were so freaking fun to read, it had me flying through the pages.

Now Tess and Maverick were off the charts smexy, that had me drooling and wishing I could be her! But, these two have a lot of SH$T going on, and this is going to be a roller coaster ride to hell and back.

Plus it leaves off on a crazy cliffhanger. I can’t believe Dahlia left us like that. I swear I would give her my left kidney if I could get book two right now! I’m praying that we won’t have to wait long, cause my book hanger is something fierce right now!!

Perfectly Dark and Twisted

This book coming out in October is absolutely perfect.

This book starts with backstory for our main characters and there is quite a bit of it but it really is important to show the desperation and fear.

When our FMC finds out her boss is entering this crazy contest with only one winner and he will be able to feed off the fear that will be ever present she realizes this is her only chance for freedom even if she pays for it with her life.

With her decision made she makes the most the time left with her roommate and also meets Reaper. She finds herself drawn to him but refuses to acknowledge it due to her past. However, fate or something else has other ideas.

With her life and freedom on the line she finds herself with Reaper helping her. Why would he do that? Will they end her boss? Will either of them make it out of the competition alive!

Well you better buckle up because the ride is dark, spicy, and oh so twisted.

I absolutely loved this story and can't wait to see what is to come for this series. So grab the book, a snack and drink, a tissue and your trusty vibe cause you're in for a ride.

Devil's Delirium is dark, horrific, gory, spicy and perfect for spooky season. Make sure you read the trigger warnings before starting!

As a starving, homeless teenager, Tess gives up her freedom for protection. Sadly, the person that was supposed to protect her ends up abusing her horrifically for 10 years and she can't do anything about it because they are magically bound in a way that gives her abuser all the power.

Tess is a witch and one of her powers is having visions of people's demise if she touches them bare handed. After finding out that her boss is joining an annual event called Devil's Delirium in a bid to grow his sinister powers she has a vision about him meeting his end there at her hand.

In the winner-take-all gore-fest of the Devil's Delirium she teams up with the mysterious and devilishly handsome Reaper to try and take down her boss/abuser and somehow escape alive.

This was such a great read to kick off October with. This is a fast paced paranormal romance with a lot of dark elements that had me wanting to ignore all of my adult responsibilities to read. Tess signs up for a battle royale type competition that is held on Halloween night and only has one survivor. She’s determined to ensure her boss doesn’t win, but what will she do to make that goal become real? Enter Reaper, who agrees to help her and ensure she makes it out alive but not without some banter and button pushing along the way. This book kept me on my toes the entire time, and the plot twists had me on the edge of my seat. The spice was also very hot when it happened and was a 3/5 for me.

Devil's Delirium was a past paced, paranomal romance with a killer plot! I loved the character development and how every conversation/detail moved the story forward. The fmc was extremely likeable and every decision she made was true to herself. The foreshadowing was spot on and the author did an amazing job of circling back around and answering those burning questions. Now, with this being the first in a series, it does end on a cliff hanger so you'll be rocking in a corner till the next one comes out. Oh, one more thing... The SPICE! I read some pretty depraved novels, but this one can hold it's own. ::phew::

“…when you live with terror daily, you learned to push past it…”

“Devil’s Delirium,” by Dahlia T. Drake

What I liked:
-The FMC is a tattoo artist and has a cool skull sidekick that I thought was unique and interesting.
-Her visions of death. She doesn’t want the knowledge of people’s deaths in her head.
-Tons of trauma that the FMC has to work through during the book. She is used as a prostitute and is SA’d a lot during the book.
-Shadow Daddy character, will never complain when MMC is a shadow daddy.

What I didn’t like as much:
-The magic system with witches, demons, etc. felt super brief and I didn’t get to see enough of it.
-The MMC has a back story, but it felt so small and unimportant compared to the FMC, I hope to have more of his story in book 2.
-The death games, it was built up as super important but felt rather anticlimactic and brief.

All in all, 4 out of 5 stars. Will definitely be reading book 2 in the Cirque de sanguine series.

-Magic
-Prostitution
-Visions
-Demons
-Multi POV/ Dual POV
-Death Games
-Shadow Daddy

Thank you for the ARC, Booksirens.

I asked for her name but she didn't answer. Just Flinked up at me, frozen and tight. Like I was Death himself, come to steal her away. I could be persuaded to play that part if she wanted.

This sounded like an interesting read and the cover was great so that had me signing up for this ARC. I am so glad I did!

Maverick and Tess are something else! The dynamic between these two is unreal and watching their story unfold while dealing with the psychotic boss, the hunters and everything else in between is just crazy!

They both turn up for Devil's Delirium while still technically unknown to each other and from there things are a blast a l enjoyed every page and still have a few things l'd like to know which is the sign of a great book, always leave the reader wanting more and that ending?! That ending did exactly that! I can't wait for the next one!!

This was chaotic and insane and I loved every minute of it!! Tess is magically bound to Ivan, a demented warlock, set on increasing his power through a reign of terror and fear. In order to stop him, she enters Devil's Delirium where the winner is the last one left alive. Along the way, she encounters Reaper who is a little unhinged and obsessed with her. I want to explain more but I feel like that would give too much away and you really just need to read it to fully understand what I'm trying to say.

I absolutely LOVED Tess!! She is incredibly strong and despite everything life has thrown at her, she remains resilient and true to herself. Is she perfect? No. But is she trying her best? Yep! Tess feels real and vulnerable without being a weak doormat. And the chemistry with Reaper? *chef's kiss*

This is such a great dark romance/horror read for spooky season! I am so glad I read it and I can't wait for the next installment!

OMG this was AWESOME BOOK! It was a page turner and the suspense was MIND BLOWING and action packed of drama and chaos. I was on the edge of my seat and I couldn’t even put it down. Tess and Ivan have dark passion for one another and the chemistry was fears and wild of danger and romance. It was an action packed of madness and tension with the emotion of feelings and romance.

I definitely recommend this book and you won’t be disappointed.

This was a great read.
Raunchy and spicy.
Dramatic and engaging.
I love the MMC. The FMC gets the shit end of the stick a bunch of times lol.
I love that the MmC listens to her so well. He just trusts what she has to say, he has full confidence and faith in her and the things she says.
That’s so refreshing in dark romance.
It’s a super good read, very much recommend it.

I received a copy in return for my honest review.

This book created a mind f*ck that left me devoid of any words or thoughts. The mentally deranged characters were so well written and left me absolutely fascinated! I can say the story started off a little slow for me and kind of confusing there for a little, until you really get sucked into the plot and then you don't remember what confused you in the beginning because everything pieces itself together. I LOVE that in book! That cliffhanger has me on my knees gnawing at the bars of my enclosure!

I loved this book so much. It's perfect for those who love reading horror books on Halloween. I read the spooky stuff all year round, and this was everything. I definitely need more! This book does end on a cliffhanger, so beware of that. I was a little upset only because I now have to wait for the second book! This is also very unpredictable. This leaves you guessing even at the end. The spice was spicing! For those smutt readers out there, you will probably enjoy this.
