Samael Living a double life as an esteemed lawyer and the head of a demon mafia is nothing new to this figure of shadow and sin. Cain's trial is a mere formality at this point. Once it's won, he can use Cain to get what he really wants- control over the territory. But when he encounters a woman with chestnut hair and fire in her eyes the room stills and all his priorities change. Who is she and how does he tell her that she stole the heart of the Devil himself?
This dual POV Dark Paranormal Romance is full of twists and turns, with a plot that's only begun. The first installment of Mr. M's Bookshop is riddled with graphic language, sexual content, and violence. Are you ready to see what the Devil has to offer?
Lilith is a dark fantasy with a hint of romance. The MMC is Samael, the devil, and the MFC is Lilith. Lilith has gone through life not understanding her own demon nature. She knows she's different and it takes Samael to help show her how her life can become fulfilling without harming others. Samael, as always, is a suave and accomplished at getting what he wants, including Lilith. Of course they have to overcome her current partner, Adam, who in my opinion was well described, intolerant, and intolerable. Let's just say he gets what he deserves. I also think Lilith should have been a stronger character with a bit more depth, she's a demon after all. The writing style was smooth and descriptive, and the content was on point with the plot. Of course, the HEA comes at the end.
There were two sub characters which had more of my attention than the main players. Mr. M and Hal. Both of these characters were full of intrigue and I really wanted to know more about them. I believe Hal is getting his own story, so I look forward to that branch of this story line. The main antagonists were Ali and Michael. I thought they could have been fleshed out more within the story. Michael as the judge in court and his interactions with Samael had me a bit confused. I thought they needed more depth.
My 13 years of catholic school kicked into overdrive with this one trying to remember why names were familiar. Trying to figure out if something was a hint I might’ve learned from the Bible. I was a smidge worried that the Bible references would be a turn-off for me but I was eating this up. it was healing all the built up religious trauma in my soul. I’m excited to see what comes next from M.R. Erfman and Mr M’s Bookshop.
Lilith’s story has mostly been background noise. That is, for those of us that knew she was more than Frasier Crane’s wife. But as with most things written by men regarding women, the story of Lilith, brief though it is in the Bible, paints her unfavorably. Lucky then for you that you stumbled across this updated, modern retelling. You’re in for a treat.
The author did an amazing job reeling you in from page 1 to the end. The character building was great. This had my pulse racing in more ways than one. Fantastic story telling.
This author is an amazing story teller. I didn’t want to put this book down, but adulting required me to read it more slowly than I would have liked. The characters are built well and develop through the story. I cannot wait to read more from M.R.
Such a good read!! I literally couldn’t put it down!! I am now obsessed with Samael!!! And Lilith??? Such a Badass!!! The author really knows how to put together an addictive story!!! Definitely recommend! But make sure to check your TW’s 🫶🫶🫶
I'm coming back because I just realized I never left a review for this. We see some many references to Lilith in so much of pop culture that deals with the devil and supernatural, but we rarely get her story, her motivation, and Erfman did a fantastic job with this. It's a dark romance, but it isn't just a romance. It's also Lilith becoming the badass everyone says she is in pop culture. I also loved how Samael, our devil, isn't the typical dark-haired brooding man. It's such a nice twist to have this light-haired man mafia man.
