Rick Winter is tired of playing empty scenes with submissives, only to return home alone. He wants what he sees his friends getting - a real relationship with submissives who love them. Unfortunately, since his move to be closer to his friends and Stronghold, the kink club he goes to, the only woman that's really sparked his interest not only isn't a submissive, she's his neighbor. Since he's always had strict rules for himself about not becoming entangled with women that he can't avoid (just in case things go badly), Rick's doing his best to ignore the distractingly gorgeous and curvy Maria.
Maria Arias is the oldest of four sisters; the middle two are married and her baby-sister just got engaged. That doesn't bother her though, what bothers her are the assumptions everyone else seems to have about how it SHOULD bother her. She's just looking for some fun and maybe a few hot nights when she meets her sexy new neighbor, but he's staying aloof - mostly. After a series of mixed-signals, and one very clear warning to stay away from him, this vanilla tease is about to find out what happens when she flirts with a Dom who demands more than just a casual affair.
Taming the Tease is the second book in the Stronghold series, it can be read as a standalone novel (although there are a lot of side characters whose backstories you'll be missing out on), and contains erotic BDSM content.
Stronghold Series: 1. Stronghold 2. Taming the Tease 3. Protector - Fall 2014
Golden Angel is a USA Today best-selling author of heart and bottom warming romance.
She is happily married, old enough to know better but still too young to care, and a big fan of happily-ever-afters, strong heroes and heroines, and sizzling chemistry.
When not in front of her computer writing, she can be found sewing her next project, hanging out with friends, or wandering the grounds of the Maryland Renaissance Festival.
I loved both Rick and Maria. I especially enjoyed how comfortable Maria was with her body and how she didn't let whatever asshole make her feel bad about herself :)
The story was good but inconsistencies drive me crazy! Rick says Maria lives one floor below, she introduces herself as his upstairs neighbor, but later says she loves living in a garden apartment, then later goes downstairs to Rick's apartment! Also, at one moment Rick calls her "Mara," and a character called Marissa is called Marisa and also Maria, which was very confusing. Maria also wears a PVS dress (instead of PVC) which was funny as PVS means Persistent Vegetative State!
The story of Maria and Rick is another beauty in the Stronghold series. Rick wants what his friends have and his neighbor Maria looks só good....Maria’s sisters have all settled down and she really wants the same.....could that hot guy Rick, who is her neighbor be interested at all? Rick hopes Maria is interested in his lifestyle, she does act like a submissive at times.....Maria is new to all that BDSM stuff and would like some time to find out what she likes.....and if it’s the same thing Rick likes. One thing is for sure.....i loved them both!
Book 2 of the Stronghold Doms Series, Taming the Tease, includes all the delicious Doms (and Domme) we met in Sassy Submissive, but focuses mainly on Dom Rick, who has just moved back to the area, and is seeking to find what his group of friends are slowly finding – a life partner. When he moves into an apartment, his eye is drawn to a curvy woman he sees down in the pool area.
Maria is the oldest of four girls and has always been a ‘motherly’ type as a result. When she spots the hot new tenant that has moved into her building swimming laps, she does the ‘neighborly’ thing and works up the courage to take him some food.
What follows are the trials and tribulations of most relationships, the miscommunication that can sometime sabotage the sizzling connection developing between a couple – especially with Maria’s first visit to the BDSM club Stronghold – Rick was an absolute ass the way he handled that when Maria is a ‘vanilla’ who doesn’t even know anything about BDSM, let alone what she sees happening inside the club.
I could write about the whole book I loved it that much, despite the editing issues that are peppered throughout the book, but I’m not one to give away any ‘spoilers’. What I will say is the attraction Rick feels for Maria, and vice versa, had me, at times, laughing, sighing, wanting to smack Rick up the side of his head, and the ‘scenes’ are HOT. I am totally addicted to all the characters of Stronghold.
Although it is part of the series, this can be read as a stand-alone with a HAE – but then you’ll miss out on getting to know the individual personalities of the whole group, so I highly recommend reading this series from book 1. You’ll be glad you did.
Not quite as compelling as the first book in this series, but still reasonably well-written for the genre. I appreciate that this series is populated by regular non-billionaire people with jobs, lives, and friendships beyond their sex lives. I also like that these books are broadly sex-positive and don't portray kink as trauma therapy or as a symptom of past trauma.
The audiobooks are available on Everand, making them ideal ear candy for moments of sleeplessness. I'm sure I'll end up listening to all of the books in this series because I'm liking the cast of characters enough to want to hear their stories.
Stronghold Doms are my absolute favorite from Golden Angel. Don’t get me wrong, I love everything she does but her Doms? (bites knuckle) They’re just so delicious. Getting to see all the different Doms and their kinks. And this one? Orgasm control? Both forced AND denied?! Hot AF! 💜
Phew pass me a fan. I managed to read this little hottie in one sitting. Silly me is reading the Stronghold books out of order but that's the beauty of Golden Angel's writing, each story can be read individually while your favourite past characters make a re-appearance (Angel and Adam still crack me up). If there was a couple to challenge Adam & Angel on the favourites podium, so far I think it might be Rick and Maria. Taming the Tease looks at how starting a new relationship can be complicated, even more so when you add kink into the dynamic. Maria and Rick both make some mistakes on their way to HEA but with a wonderfully cast of friends/characters weighing in they put the couple back on course. I loved Rick's playful and generally more relax nature (for a Dom), somehow it made those Dom vibes even more potent when he wanted to turn up the heat. And that Maria was able to go toe to toe with him up to a point, (she soon learns what it means to be topping from the bottom much to their mutual delight).
Dom Rick isn't interested in getting involved with a woman who's not into BDSM, but he is attracted to flirty neighbor Maria. They have a lot of chemistry, and I like how body positive this book is about her being a curvy woman. I also like that Rick's not perfect in introducing Maria to his kinks, even if he completely screws up when he takes her to the club for the first time. I also like the insights into both of their thought processes as they go through their relationship. This book is slow in places, but is a good read otherwise.
Rick and Maria. Good to see curvy representation and loved reading about their kink. Maria's intro to kink was a dick move on Rick's part. But loved seeing her being enveloped into the stronghold fam. And Olivia is still my fave. Already read the next one.
I love me a good BDSM romance, so I'm not quite sure why I'm so late to the party with this author. However I am determined to make up for lost time and work my way through the Stronghold Doms series, since both books I've read thus far have been not only well written, but had strong plots and lots of super steamy scenes to enjoy.
Maria is the eldest of 4 daughters, yet the only one NOT in a long term relationship or married. As an independent and confident woman, this doesn't generally bother her - though the interference of well meaning family she could live without! She's also a voluptuous beauty, happy enough with her size to wear a bikini, but still with body hang-ups that every woman seems to suffer.
There wasn't a thing to dislike about her character. She didn't play games or keep secrets, she was upfront and honest and was just totally fun to read about. Maria reacted to situations in a very genuine and honest way, I loved how I never found myself thinking "oh as if you'd say/do that!". Here was a character whose actions and reactions I believed in.
Rick is bored and looking for a special someone to spend his life with. Trouble is the only woman who catches his eye isn't in the lifestyle. Can he risk his heart chasing after a woman who might not be able to give him what he needs? Well these worries lead to Rick making a really stupid decision regarding Maria. The way his fellow Dom/mes and even the subs called him out on his actions was so . I find it wonderfully refreshing that BOTH the Dom and sub are allowed to make errors and be finding their way in the relationship. Too many authors write 'perfect and perfectly in control' Doms, I much prefer Golden Angel's real men.
The book is a longer than average read, which I found to be a really good thing. It allowed time to be given to establishing and growing the relationship, as well as including lots of hot play scenes. I can't pinpoint why I enjoy these books so much, other than to say that the author seems to have thought about how to make the relationships plausible. Throughout the book both the characters and the situations they find themselves in feel realistic. I'm off now to read Lexie and Patrick's story.
Just a boring book .Very little kink.main male character was annoying and didn't seem like a dom at all.more than Halfway through the book before there is anything close to a relationship
Well, color me surprised and slap me with a flogger (gently, please)—I am so glad I gave this series a second chance. If the first book left me side-eyeing the author and their choices, the second book redeemed it in every way imaginable. It’s like the author took a hard look at book one, said, “Okay, we can do better,” and then absolutely did the thing.
This book was the perfect blend of swoony romance and a heavy dose of BDSM fantasy, and let me tell you, it was so good I might need a cigarette (and I don’t even smoke). One moment I was blushing like a Victorian prude, the next I was laughing out loud, and then there I was, lost in the same lust and longing as the main characters. It was that kind of ride, folks.
Maria is a force of nature—she’s confident, curvy, and absolutely unapologetic about who she is. Watching her step into her power while still being vulnerable and open in her relationship with Rick? Chef’s kiss. And Rick? DREAMY. Respectful, sexy, and the absolute perfect partner for Maria as they navigate their dynamic. Together, they find the perfect rhythm—equal parts tender and steamy—and I was here for every second of it.
Also, kudos to the author for treating the subject matter with the respect it deserves. This wasn’t some half-baked Fifty Shades knockoff. It was authentic and thoughtful, smashing a ton of tired BDSM stereotypes in the process. Thank you for doing the work, dear author.
Even the side characters, who felt like a crowd at a party in book one, finally earned their keep here. They added flavor and depth without stealing the spotlight, and now I’m just as invested in their drama as I am in Maria and Rick’s.
And that ending? Perfectly set the tone for book three. I need it yesterday, because this series has officially earned a place on my “drop everything and read” list.
If you’re on the fence about this series, take it from me—stick with it. You’ll laugh, you’ll swoon, and if you’re anything like me, you’ll be fanning yourself from start to finish. Bravo.
This is one of the most addictive book series I have read! I am blown away by Golden Angel's writing style. Her characters are people I wish I had in my life, and the emotional connection I have to them is insanely intense. I have to tear myself away from the pages to do things like eat and sleep, and even while I am doing those things I am thinking about the story. I feel all of the emotions along with the characters. I get angry, frustrated, worried, sad, happy, excited, nervous, and hot and bothered. This is only the second book in this series, but because all of the characters appear in each of the books I feel like I know them all. I wouldn't say that I have a favorite, especially at this point, but there was just something about Maria and Rick that tugged at my heartstrings. Maybe it was because Maria put herself out there so much, maybe it was because Rick was so nervous about falling in love and couldn't stop himself at the same time, maybe it was because they seemed to both love and feel unsure of themselves at the same time. I really can't say. All I know is that I couldn't read this story fast enough, and at the same time the ending came too soon. This series has become one of my all time favorites! I wish I could do nothing other than immerse myself in the pages of this book and let the rest of the world fade away. The romance is beautiful, the love scenes are intense and captivating, and the journey it takes to reach the HEA is absolutely glorious. I have told everyone I know that they need to read this book, and now I'm telling you the same thing. You will not be disappointed, I promise!
Rick finds that he’s not enjoying the club as much as he used to and seeing brunette, he knew there was chemistry, but she maybe vanilla and she lived in the same complex, which could end badly. Rick found that although he’d just finished a scene, and made sure she’d got what she needed, it hadn’t done much for him, and after seeing his friends decides to head home early. Maria wasn’t going to give up on Rick, because he seemed shy about his bedroom likes, she just had to think of how to approach him, she just needed some fun for a while. Rick can’t believe Maria got past him getting in his door, and apparently curious, letting him know she was open minded. When Maria lets him know they can have a good time. Rick is pissed, when she assumes, he’s a player, and lets her know the type of guy he isn’t to make it clear to her, and have her stay away, letting her know he will spank her if she shows up again. Maria’s tired of Rick pushing her away when she gets close and decides to change her approach. Heading out the only thing Rick tells her is that they are at Stronghold, it’s a BDSM club. Rick thought it was going well until they get to the dungeon, he should have checked before taking her down there, she was heading but up the stairs to the bathroom before he knew what was happening. Olivia lets Rick know exactly what he’s done wrong, and he keeps saying he wants a relationship, but he keeps trying to make Maria run, he knows he’s already emotionally involved, but is it too late, did he push her away for good this time, or can he change her mind
It strikes me that there doesn't seem to be a explanation for the stars that are given. So I thought I'd start giving my take on it. 1 horrible no redeeming qualities. So far I've never given a 1. 2 blah but there are redeeming qualities. 3 ok worth reading. 4 great but there's something off. 5 loved it.
So now about this story. This is the first book I've Listened to in this series. I get the feeling that it crosses over to another series as well as being the second in this series. It can be read/listen alone but I'm one of those people who enjoys things in order. Unfortunately I really can't read anymore, as I get debilitating headaches when I read for more than about 15 minutes. That said I can't wait for more of this series, I want to say more about this story but I absolutely hate spoilers, so I won't do it to you by going into details. The narrator brings the story to life. Rick meets Maria at their apartment building's swimming pool. Maria is not in the lifestyle and Rick is looking for a life partner. Maria knows nothing about BDSM, but she will ask questions. When they scene for the first time, there is miscommunication during aftercare. Will this keep them from having a future? Can they communicate to get both their needs fulfilled?
I liked this story. I like Maria's boldness in asking questions and seeking answers to her questions. I like how the ladies of Stronghold accepted Maria in their group and helped her learn more about the lifestyle. I also liked how they circled the wagons around her when Rick did not communicate clearly. Even Olivia has choice words for Rick. I liked Rick's uncertainty about Maria coming into the lifestyle and her acceptance of it and him. The baby steps being taken are good. I love having the rest of the characters have somewhat major roles in the book. As a reader I like knowing what is happening in all the characters' lives and the impact they have on the main characters of the story. This does end in a cliffhanger. I have to read the next book really soon.
When I started reading this book I wasn't sure I was going to like Maria, though Angel's female characters are true and alive I've never been much for girls you are serial tease's, you know the ones lead everyone on then leave with no one, but I found myself loving Maria she is a tease, a total tease but in a good way I promise.
Add on top of that the way Rick likes to play (if you have read the Venus series or stronghold you know he is into orgasm play) and you are left ultimately leaving the book going I have no clue who the title was about was Rick taming Maria or was Maria taming Rick.
but ultimately I think Angel is the tease not only has she written a book where you sit back and go "so been there", but you laugh out loud and get strange looks from people around you, and the epilogue! well the next book in this series has been brewing for almost 5 books so to say the end had me calling Angel a tease well you will have to read to see but don't say I didn't warn you, you will be cursing her name and begging for the next installment of the stronghold gang.
This is a second story in the Stronghold series. It is a standalone so you don’t have to read the first book to understand what is happening. Of course, you will want to because the characters and their dynamics will entice you to read more about them! This story is sensuously erotic! The only time I stopped was to sleep. Hey, a girl needs her beauty sleep! Golden Angel’s creation of the scenes and depiction of the characters with the scenes makes you feel like you are right there with them. Your are definitely voyeuristically enjoying this story! I love the dynamics between Rick and Maria. These two are perfect for each other. They both are starting to doubt there ever being an HEA for themselves. Its fun to be on the journey with them as they explore a relationship with all its ups, downs, miscommunications, and the added sexy explorations of BDSM. The BDSM scenes are scorching hot! I loved the details! Now I can’t wait to read the next book!
3⭐️ Another cute couple in the Stronghold group. I like that we saw Rick more vulnerable as a Dom when it came to rejection. I also really liked that Maria was a curvy woman and she was confident with it. There was never any resolve with the guy that “teased” her about her weight, so we didn’t get to see him experience Maria with her hot Dom boyfriend event though he was present at the event. I appreciated the aspect of Maria internally debating about Rick after a scene, and realizing that he had broken a level of trust with her. Since bdsm is all about trust and communication, that level of awareness was important. I’m glad that wasn’t glossed over. The epilogue was different bc it wasn’t about the main couple but the next couple/book in the series.
**Warning: kink, attempted suicide, mention of con-non-con,
Worth the read?: YES Reread?: NO
Read if you like: -kink club -Dom/sub -High school teacher MMC -curvy Latina neighbor FMC -forced proximity -plus size positive
I consider myself lucky to have found this series - it currently ranks in my top three favourite BDSM series alongside the Black Light series and Masters of the Shadowlands.
The cat and mouse game between Rick and Maria is quite amusing; the innocent little submissive who doesn't have a clue about BDSM, and the experienced Dom with a penchant for orgasm denial, and yet it's the mouse who pursues the big, bad pussy cat. Golden Angel weaves a delicious tale with two very likable characters (admittedly not my favourites out of the eight Stronghold books but that's no fault of theirs) and she throws in some wicked little heartaches (Maria's first time in Stronghold and the scene in the locker room). Despite the fact this quieter couple aren't top of my favourites' list, they still get a 5* rating in terms of storyline, emotion and lots of good sex.
This is the 2nd book in the Stronghold series, but can be read as a standalone. It was a nice installment in the series, but I didn't like the first part of the storyline. I saw no motivation for the heroine to pursue him after he rejected her several times, and I really didn't understand why he liked her chasing him. It didn't fit his character that as he was introduced in the Venus series, as well as the first book of the series. In addition to storyline issues, it needs a proofreader in the worst way. Missing and incorrect words and misspellings ( in one case the heroine's name is misspelled) affect the flow of the story for the reader, and I don't understand why those haven't been corrected by now.
This is book 2 in the Stronghold series. It. Was. Wonderful! I did not put it down, start to finish! Rick & Maria are the main characters in this book. Rick has finally realized he wants a permanent partner to settle down with. Maria is the only sister that is single. And although she isn't in a hurry to find Mr. Right, she doesn't lose hope. These two had me yelling, smiling, and laughing out loud! And ohhh the bit about the Legos (I won't give it away) had me in laughing tears! This book has everything you would want. A great story line start to finish, light BDSM, romance, laughs, and seriousness. I loved it!
Maria knows nothing about BDSM. She hasn't even read many books with it. She's attracted to her neighbor and she's a naive curvy woman. Rick just moved to the area and he's a Dom at Stronghold, a BDSM club. He's looking for a relationship with a sub and attracted to Maria but determined not to start anything with a neighbor.
After starts and stops and misunderstandings they begin to get close. She has to figure out if she likes his kinks and he has to figure out if she's for real or faking it because she likes him. Strong characters, great friends, and human feelings, along with some steamy scenes.
Great story about a curvy girl who isn't afraid to stand up for herself about her body but still is beginning to doubt that she might actually find someone who wants her. Maria is wonderful and I love her relationship with her sisters. I also like seeing her slowly realize that Rick does want her and how open she is to trying what he is interested in. Rick was super sweet and I love how willing he is to go slow and make sure Maria is comfortable even if it means that they can't be together. I enjoyed seeing the Stronghold group again including seeing how Angel and Adam are settling in to their relationship and the hints at who some of the other members of the group will end up with.
Book two in Stronghold series, but can be read as stand-alone. Told in dual POV and no cliffhanger for this books couple. This book is about Rick aka Master Winter and his neighbor Maria. Rick is a member of the BDSM club Stronghold and is ready for a relationship like his friends have found. He is attracted to his neighbor Maria, who he has seen at the pool. Maria is a confident curvy girl who has also noticed Rick. Their story takes a lot of time to develop, but I love reading about their friends too. I look forward to reading more of this series!
The second book in the Stronghold series and this is the story of Rick and Maria.
I really liked Maria, she was a wonderful characters. I loved how comfortable she was with herself and didn’t take any **. Her reaction to Rick’s confession felt real, just like her journey into the lifestyle.
And it was wonderful to see how the other took her in and she found a great circle of friends.
I liked Rick too, but I didn’t want to slap him on the head a few times. Men….
Golden Angel has me hook, line, and sinker with this story. I love the relationship and character development of Maria and Rick! There were a few times that I wanted to strangle both characters however because they were both doing the same thing without realizing it right away!
This book is sexy but that last sex scene made me wish I was Maria! I grinned like a fool at the end of the book! I will say this again...Golden does an amazing job of giving us just enough info about secondary characters to keep us guessing and to enhance the main story line and not detract from it! AMAZE-Balls!
