Dutch Cross, lead singer of The Kings, is a nightmare come to life. I fell for his amber eyes, chiseled jaw line, and crooning voice once before and it almost cost me my future. Never again. This time, I’ll be the one to make him bleed. But Dutch has no intentions of giving me the upper hand. Heartless. Ruthless. Savage. He seeks revenge for my secrets and declares war on the most precious thing I have. The beast thinks he can break me. But I didn’t claw my way back into Redwood just to go down in flames, not unless I burn Dutch and his gorgeous brothers down with me. I’ll find a way to resist him, even if it means playing dirty. Because falling into Dutch’s trap sounds like a bully’s version of hell. I’ve already been there and I’m not going back. Even if it kills me.
*** The Ruthless Note is part two of a one-couple romance between a cruel prince and a gifted musical prodigy. Also note, this saga contains strong bully themes. If you’re looking for an extreme enemies-to lovers, unapologetic alpha hero, high school rockstar romance, this is the book for you. XOXO - Nelia
”The thing with loneliness is that you don’t expect it to be as powerful as it is. Once it has you in its clutches, it holds on for good. With no intentions of letting go. And then it follows you around, digging its claws in deeper and deeper.” (i love serena🥲💓)
i hate that i’m addicted to this😶🫣😓
THERE WILL BE SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW🚨🚨‼️‼️
Dutch Cross he still enrages me to no end. i can’t stand him. i want to bash his head in🤗🥊🥊👊 BUT… he has his moments (kind of) i don’t think i’ll ever like him per se, but i can see myself hating him less🤗 (maybe) i mean come on? he saved her from a fire. and bought her flowers. he paid for her sister’s surgery. he paid for her meal card so that she could eat anything she wanted. but, at the same time, he also did things that (for me) were unforgivable😣😣 he redeemed himself in this book (then ruined it but oh well, something is better than nothing, i guess…🤷♀️🤷♀️) all of that to say, he still disgusts me, but there were points in which he disgusted me slightly less🥳🥳 (maybe i’m being too harsh on him but😶😶)
me🥰🥰:
She looked small and alone, a tiny planet spinning out of an endless galaxy. So far from me, so different that I shouldn’t be affected by her at all. And yet, the only time I feel anything other than dead inside is when she’s spinning in my orbit. 🫣🫣
”Nothing is going to happen to you.”His voice is low and firm.I’m not going to let anything happen to you, Brahms.” 😁😁
(please fall in a ditch in the middle of nowhere, where there’s no way for you to contact anyone, and break both your legs so that you can’t stand or get away and then slowly rot🤗🤗🤗)
Cadence Cooper i expected more from her revenge. she didn’t give dutch the beating he deserved😪😪 BUT! she did fill his car up with rubbish🤗🤗
Picked up the trash. Have fun with your own kind. 🥰🥰
”Be careful, Dutch. You don’t want to see my skills with a butcher knife.” I WANT TO🙋♀️😊
i still love her character (even though she didn’t do enough to get back at dutch😒😒😒), she is still the reason i’m reading this😋😋
He smiles sinisterly”What’s good here?”I straighten and snap,”Your head on a platter.” 🤣 i love her
”Three whoppers, two waters, and a heart for you since you clearly don’t have one.” 😛😛
Zane Cross i was so excited for his books but WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY’RE STEP-SIBLINGS NOW ugh😔😔 (i’m still going to read it but🤧🤧)
”How long are you going to keep avoiding Miss Jamieson?” ”Until I forget.”He stares at the pool. The lights are bouncing against it, sending blue rays all over the back deck.”Until it doesn’t freaking feel like I’m choking on my own breath.”
Finn Cross dare i say he’s my favourite Cross brother?🤭🤭
I really enjoyed the second installment in this series.
I want to point out one thing that this series FINALLY gets right. Most bully romances always suggest that the heroine is going to fight back in the blurb, and then she usually never does. At least not very well and it always feels dissapointing. In this series? She fights back and she really doesn't cower. When Dutch screws her over or does something horrible? She does something right back.
I find it very entertaining how well them being enemies is done. Again, most bully/enemies-to-lovers romances, being enemies and cruel to each other only lasts so long before they cave in to their attraction and just completely give in to each other. This story? They hate each other just as much as they want each other, and it doesn't ease up. Their hate for each other just gets stronger as does their attraction and it's very entertaining. Even when Dutch finally decides he wants her and isn't trying to just get her "out of his system" anymore, he's still a huge asshole about it and she still is like, screw this guy. She has a lot more backbone than most heroines. She actually does fight her attraction to him, instead of caving immediately like I would expect in any other bully romance.
The back and forth with them was so good. It kept the tension going throughout the story which is something I just love and feel like I don't see as much as I would like in most romances I read. I'm always happy when I find one that does it like this!
*SPOILER* I particularly love how Dutch suddenly starts talking about marriage before he is even able to admit to himself or anyone that he's obviously madly in love with her. He's trying to force her to marry him so he can chain her to him. I floved when he unceremoniously throws the ring box at her and she's like wtf is this? and he's like "handcuffs." Ya, no romance in that proposal. It was hilariously awesome.
(CW: SA!!) I don't usually bother to write reviews but as no one has said anything about the horrible scene I have issue with yet, I will
In the end of chapter two of this unseriously mediocre sequel, the main love interest (who I assume is posing in the unfathomably hideous cover) forces himself on the 17 year old protagonist. She repeatedly tells him to "get off" and shows signs of discomfort and unhappiness throughout the scene. In answer to her troubles he (CW CW CW !!!) grinds his hips and grabs her hands so there is nothing she can do, he's in complete control. To make this scene even more unnerving than it already is with the whole 'writing SA off as enemies' sexual tension that is supposed to just serve as spice for the reader' thing the author goes for, we read it all through HIS pov and have to endure his inner monologue basically thinking r*aping her, or at least revelling in his control and ability to do whatever he pleases to her.
Here's a clip of what I've just had to read (cw):
"A red flush stains her cheeks. Her voice trembles. “Get off.” She tries to worm free, but my hand is a steel band on both her wrists and my upper body is pinning her in place. There’s no escaping this. No escaping me."
I'm so disgusteeeed....
If you think I might be alone in this and thus exaggerating it all, may I quote his words to her, after she asks if he will take her by force after getting rejected:
"Is that how you want to play it, Dutch? You couldn’t have any version of me, so you’re going to take what you want?”
“Should I break you, Brahms? Right here, right now?”
That is all, I dnf this book after the chapter, because the book was never ever good enough to turn a blind eye to such filth.
Hope my warning saved at least one reader who doesn't want to stomach dubious consent or is triggered by it.
I'm not going to rate this one because in all honesty I went into it not expecting to love it and I went against my better judgement and followed a TikTok recommendation. I tried it mainly for one scene because it really fit my mood and for that it gave me what I wanted. And actually it even had me going on and reading book two as well which I wasn't expecting to do.
Overall the story was interesting enough to keep me reading. The issues I had mainly came from the writing style and I think it just wasn't for me. Especially by the second book where it started to feel very choppy and all over the place. There were these almost cliffhanger endings to chapters that then took at least another full chapter to find out what happened and that got to be very annoying.
So this was clearly a me-issue and also my own fault that I went into a book knowing it would probably not be for me. Even though I'll most likely never come back to read the last book I'm not sorry that I gave the series a try.
Rating: 4, Good ✨ 🎀 ♥️ I hate that Dutch is making me like him😐. Like please stop let me hate you 😭.
Dutch and Cadence are the perfect example of Toxic relationship that somehow ends up working 😭😭.
Now don't get it twisted they're not together yet....I think that's for the 3rd final book. 🥲 Frustrating???? Yes it is!!! But I hope it's worth it.
I love the micro trope where the MMC doesn't like cuddling but cuddles with her 🤭👏🏾. Also the micro trope where he teaches her how to swim but they end up making out instead 🤭👏🏾 that's also in here.
The problem I have is how many times the author talks about Dutch's amber eyes....I get it but you DON'T HAVE TO REPEAT EVERY TIME 😭 😭.
“Are you one of those girls who plans to save herself for marriage?” “Because if you are, I’d respect that.” “I’d marry you.”
Okay spice level? 🌶️🌶️ / 5. The sexual tension though? Through the ROOF.
Dutch and Caddy are absolutely toxic for each other. My gosh. It’s ice cold to burning hot with 0 in between. The bullying definitely settled a bit more. Not it’s just Dutch practically peeing on her.
Sol is breaking my heart.
Dutch isn’t so much of a jerk anymore. I mean he still sleeps around but he’s trying to “make up” for his wrongs. It’s a bully romance people we gotta let this man be a villain.
CADENCE HOWEVER! My girl stepped up her GAME! She might be a loner but I know damn well everyone knows she’s secretly running that school dammit!
I initially went in on the fence because while I was eager to jump in to this one because the first one was so good , the reviews were 50/50 . I do agree that it was a lot like the first one in the sense where it’s the same old back and forth between Cadence and Dutch . It’s like we were at a standstill for so long. This is truly a slow burn enemies to lovers that’s for sure .
Now that ending ? Oh baby I was shocked by one and not so much the other . I wish my girl could catch a break😭 . I don’t think this book had to be this long , but I love the relationship that she’s created with city Serena and Sol . I’m so scared this all will end badly , but I’m praying for a happy ending 🤞🏾
THIS SERIE HAS ME IN A CHOKEHOLD😍 I LITERALLY READ THIS IN ONE DAY🤭
But tbh this book was definitely not as good as the first one, it was getting too repetitive and too much drama but that’s what I signed up for so I’m not complaining😭 the enemies stage is taking way too long like I’m tired of this just get together already😃💀
I DESPISE JAROD CROSS🤬🤬 GO TO HELL
I WASNT READY FOR THE PLOT TWIST AT THE END😃 I WAS TOO STUNNED TO SPEAK BUT I ALSO GOT A GOOD SURPISE😏🤭
⚠️SPOILER⚠️ • I KNEW FROM THE BEGINNING THAT HER MOM WASNT GONE FOR GOOD UGHHH💀
• OMFG WHEN DUTCH SAID HED MARRY CADENCE OML🛐 HES LITERALLY THE BIGGEST RED FLAG 🚩 BUT I GUESS IM BLIND😜
~
Onto the next book😗 I have never read a whole serie this fast🤓

I don’t understand why it needs 3 books. To me it feels repetitive from the first book. Like we’ve barley moved. All of this could’ve been done in one whole book.
There wasn't really a point of this book. I feel that 70% of the book was drawn out for no reason and just felt like I was reading the same thing over again. However the last 30% of the book was good. In conclusion, I don't think I wanna read the 3rd book right now. Especially after reading so many mixed reviews.
THE PLOT TWIST??? The person who wrote the note..? I had a feeling but I was like no way it's not that person, but oh my goodness it was 😳😳. And then Dutch and Cadence, phew. It was fire playing with fire, and I loved every second of it. And I need more Sol, and for nothing bad to happen to him. And then what's going on with the guys’ dad? Like what? But I can't wait to see how their story wraps up.
Favorite quotes/scenes:
-“Even if I hate him with my every breath, there’s a twisted, dark piece of me that beats to life when I’m near him.”
-“She was everything I wasn’t supposed to want, but she dug deep under my skin. Made all the wrong feel right.”
-“I love when she challenges me. Watching her fight makes me feel alive. And that’s just as alarming as the way my heart softens for her.”
-“He looks utterly delectable and I hate him for it.”
-“I hate him with every breath, but I need him closer with every bone in my body.”
-“As much as I hate to admit it, the only time I feel anything other than numb is when I’m with Cadence. Whether it's fighting with her or listening to her play piano—it’s only her.”
-“Her eyes are big brown galaxies. If I’m not careful, I’ll find myself floating around in them like an astronaut cut off from the ship, knifing through a vast, endless space.”
-“No one else can have you, Brahms,” Dutch growls. “No matter how hard you fight me, no matter how hard you claw and bite and struggle, you will always be mine.”
-“I’ve never felt anything like this before. It’s like if I don't pull Cadence closer, I'm going to fall apart.”
-“I hold him like the world is ending. And maybe it is. Maybe the sky falls tonight. Oh… But what a way to go.”
Ugggggghhhhh, I despise Jared Cross he's soooo full of himself. Anyways, onto the main characters, finally they sealed the deal after the long wait, and there was no disappointment 😜🙊 chef's kiss 🤌🤌🤌..... I loved this book just like the first one and would totally recommend it to ppl, although I kinda want to hit the FMC and the MMC on the head sometimes 😊 😀 ☺️. I mean, just get onto telling each other that u r in love with one another 😊 ☺️ ♥️ 😉.
“The thing with loneliness is that you don’t expect it to be as powerful as it is. Once it has you in its clutches, it holds on for good. With no intentions of letting go. And then it follows you around, digging its claws in deeper and deeper.”
...
Okay my thoughts are all over the place, so.... bear with me. 😅😂
First off, The TENSION?!! Chef’s kiss. Perfection.
The writing and intensity was EXACTLY what I wanted from an enemies to lovers revenge game.
"I feel the electricity in my bones. “Anything?” I whisper. “Yes. Just tell me what you want.” “I want Dutch Cross’s head on a platter.” His eyes drill into mine with the precision of a laser. His voice sounds like it’s scraping against shards of broken glass when he hisses, “Who the hell are you?” I step close to him and tip my chin up to meet his stormy gaze. “I’m your worst nightmare.”
...
I DID A LITERAL VICTORY DANCE WHEN CHRISTA WAS ARRESTED!!!! LIKE FINALLY!!!! THANKYOU!!!!!
But lemme just say, Jared Cross is really giving me the creeps. There is something seriously off about this dude...
I swear, this author has done such an AMAZING job with writing a revenge enemies to lovers plot. Cadey is NOT backing down at ALL, the entirety of this book is basically of her clashing with Dutch and paying him back for all the shit he did to her. She is honestly one of the best female mc’s I’ve read about. She got Christa arrested, recked Dutch’s car with old trash, stole his clothes so he has to walk around the school naked, made a fake card to get into the King’s music room and crash the place... She is the ultimate QUEEN!!
And also, this thing between Sol and Cadey? He defos has the hots for her and it is NOT going to end well.
Cadey and Dutch are both in such DENIAL!!! They feel attraction towards each other but REFUSE TO ADMIT THAT THEY WANT EACH OTHER!!! ‘Sigh’... I’m loving this.
And holy crap is Dutch dark,
“Cadence is mine. Mine to torment. Mine to own. Mine to break. I don’t share.”
...
But oh my god!! The way Dutch helps Cadey with her stage fright and then pays for her sisters surgery fee without telling her, and then runs into a freaking building that’s on FIRE to save her!!!
But boy does this plot just keep getting more intense! Like, who the heck is breaking into Cadey’s place and why the HELL did Jared marry MISS JAMIESON'S MUM?!! MOST OF ALL, WHAT KIND OF MARRIAGE PROPOSAL WAS THAT?!!!! AND WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?!!! THAT ENDING?!! AGAIN?!! ANOTHER FUCKING CLIFFHANGER?!! ARE YOU TRYING TO FRY MY BRAIN CELLS?!!
I love the way Nelia writes. The way Dutch thinks about Cadence is his head is absolutely swoon worthy 🖤. The way this author writes his obsession is like nothing I have read before . Brilliant 🥹.
There is nothing about Cadence not to love … this chick is sweet where she needs to be and tough where she needs to be.
Major events happened at the end of this book. So glad I can immediately dive into book 3 🙌
I was able to look past everything in order to see who gossip girl is and make it thru the cliffhangers but idk if I can make it that far I think I’m tapping out
i hate dutch so much, it’s giving abusive boyfriend, it’s giving i don’t actually like her i’m just obsessed with calling her mine, it’s giving i don’t care about anyone else but myself, and cadence babes, it’s not love, it’s hormones
I'm so hooked on this story that I just can't put it down, but as dramatic and entertaining this book was, it seemed like 80% of it was just filler for what's gonna happen next...
~ dark romance ~bully romance ~ enemies to lovers ~ rockstar x scholarship girl
I definitely enjoyed this way more than the first book. The tension between the two main characters in this book was so good !! I was really impressed with this. I seriously couldn’t put it down and if i did all i could think about was this book and what could happen.
Dutch really caught my heart this book. I still enjoyed his character in the first book but seeing him actually confess and slowly but surely letting Cadence in warmed me. He really showed his true colours this book. I love how protective he is of everyone he cares for. Yes he can be mean or whatever but seriously he stepped up this book and i can’t wait to see what his character will be like in the next book.
Cadey. Oh my goodness how i love her. That girl is one strong woman because i know for a fact i couldn’t handle any of the shit she does. I love how she will always put the people she cares about above her without a second thought. I love her fearless she is, how talented she is and how determined she is to get something done. She is someone you really don’t want to mess with. I loved seeing how much stronger this was in this book. I love how she took no ones bs especially but Dutch’s.
Dutch still did some questionable things in this book but by the end he tried to show he was sorry. Some with Cadence. I really love these two together and i’m so excited to see how everything will end up next book. I loved seeing them try to fight the attraction between them, they were trying so hard not to give in but when they did oh my was it good 🤭
The plot was solid. There were a few things i predicted but there was also some things i didn’t, other all it was good and it sucks you in and you just want to know what will happen next.
If you enjoy the tropes up there ^^^ i’d definitely recommend looking into this series. I cannot wait to read the third book 🤭
