When the entire small town police department of Outlaw Ridge, Texas, is brutally attacked, Deputy Jemma Salvetti is one of only two survivors, and she’s immediately thrust into a deadly game of cat and mouse. With the killer unidentified and still on the loose, Jemma has no choice but to team up with her new partner, Hayes Brodie, a member of the elite Strike Force security team and now a temporary deputy brought in to track down the vicious killer.

Hayes is more accustomed to covert operations than small-town policing, but he knows this isn't just a hunt. It’s a race against time. As Jemma and he work side by side, the attacks escalate. So does the heat that ignites and intensifies between them, but they must bury their growing attraction to stay focused on the mission—because this killer isn’t stopping until he eliminates everyone with a badge in Outlaw Ridge.

Hayes by Delores Fossen
Hard Justice, Outlaw Ridge Series Book One
Hayes Brodie works for Owen Striker, Strike Force. A simple job of catching and taking Petey, a no-good who attacked and robbed his grandmother, to the Outlaw Ridge jail turns into a nightmare. And it doesn’t look like it’s going to end anytime soon.
Jemma Salvetti, a former lawyer turned deputy, came into work at midnight, the rookie shift, and her life changed within minutes. The man she wants to get to know better is there with a prisoner, easy enough until they are shot at and then find the unexpected inside the small-town station.
Someone is out to wipe out the entire crew of the Outlaw Ridge PD, and they have almost succeeded. Only two are still alive. Hayes could no longer avoid being close to Jemma until this nightmare ends. A fast-paced story that has plenty of villains to keep the reader guessing which one is guilty of mass murder.

Too many characters. I felt like I was at a party and did not know anyone. The only character I recognized was Ruby as I read the first three books in the previous series, Hard Justice. I lasted 3 books in that series before I stopped reading. I only read the 3rd book because I had purchased it and could not return it.

The plot was just too convoluted. Why kill a whole police force just to cover up a wrong doing? Makes no sense. There were too many people killing too many people. The whole book was a blood bath. It seemed like every time someone set foot outside of the headquarters, someone got shot or was shot at.

What's with the sheriff running the police department? No. A police department is run by a police chief and his/her officers, not a sheriff and his/her deputies. A police department takes care of a town whereas the sheriff takes care of the rest of the county. There is only one sheriff per county, not two, as in this book. With the whole police department wiped out, the sheriff should have taken over the investigation, not the head of a private security firm.

There were also several editing mistakes in the book.

I usually like Delores Fossen as I have read several of her series. However, I did not like the previous series and stopped reading it. I have no plans to read anymore books in this series, either.

An Excellent Read

I really enjoyed reading Outlaw Ridge: Hayes which is the first book in the Hard Justice series by Delores Fossen. It jumped straight to action packed from the get-go, with the attempted murder of Jemma and Hayes in the parking lot of the Outlaw Ridge PD. Murder after murder with continuing attempts keep you guessing with so many suspects and so many with motives. It was a pleasure to read an action packed mystery with an engaging plot that was not dependent on bedroom scenes to carry the story. The fact that there is a little romance mingled in didn't ruin an excellent mystery. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

EXCITING

Hayes and Jemma are a mature and exciting couple. Both are in law enforcement. The Texas town of Outlaw Ridge is seeing too much action! This novel starts off with literally a bang and the adventure and action keeps coming. What exactly is going on? Who murdered the police force except for two officers in Outlaw Ridge? Read this exciting novel and be prepared for quite the story!

This Story Was A Wild Ride From the Beginning to the End!

Wow! I was hooked from beginning to end, Gemma and Hayes are something else having to deal with all of the deaths in Outlaw Ridge. Owen and the Strike Force and the others had their hands full trying to figure out who had done the killings! So hard to put down I read it in one day!

Well written story and characters. Liked the couple of twists in the story . The characters flaws and there to and fro romance added a good dimension to the plot. Looking forward to the rest of the series

Outlaw Ridge

This is the first book book of a series and it is very good. The characters are well defined and they all had a bit of mystery in their personalities. I’m on to the next book.

Dramatic start

Dramatic start to a new “spin off” series. Strong pacing with several potential bad players. I liked that there wasn’t unnecessary/unrealistic heroics but rather consistent investigation to reach the resolution. I’ll definitely read the next book in the series.

This book has a lot of characters, a lot of murders, and lots of twists along with some romance. The characters and the story unfold at a fast pace and kept me glued to the pages. It's very entertaining though twisty.
