Romance mystery writer, Lily Aaron is a young woman looking for a forever love and inspiration for her popular books. On a lunch break from her job as a magazine editor, she meets a sexy, gorgeous man in a coffee shop, and falls hard. Is Ken Braun’s image as a successful attorney and charming companion all a façade, or is he the man destined for Lily’s future? Meanwhile, Ted Warren, an obsessed computer geek starts stalking her, calling her Laurel. She can’t get rid of him and before she can figure it out, Ted is murdered and Lily is now in first place as the killer. 25 books10 followersFran Orenstein was born in New York. Growing up in Brooklyn and the Bronx, she experienced a fine education in the public schools and the varied culture of New York City. She has a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Brooklyn College, a master’s in counseling psychology from the College of New Jersey, and a doctorate in Child and in Youth Studies from Nova Southeastern University.
She thrives on reading 3-4 novels a week, which she considers an escape from the real world. Her favorites are detective stories, legal mysteries , horror and intrigue. She likes books written by women about women, but also loves heroes like Jack Reacher, Harry Bosch, and JP Beaumont. Among her favorite authors are Dean Koontz for the beauty of his poetic metaphors, and Janet Evanovich, whose amazing characters make her laugh.
Fran wrote her first poem at age 8, and submitted her first short story at age 12. After a brief spell as an early childhood teacher, and full-time mother, she was an editor/writer for three national career education magazines, and then spent 22 years working for New Jersey State Government in a variety of positions. These included rehabilitation counselor, manager of women’s programs including writing policy and legislation, developing programs in child care, gender equity, and creator of The NJ Coalition on Women and Disabilities. Prior to retirement, she served as Special Projects and Disability Officer for AmeriCorps. Fran has many years of experience writing and publishing academically and professionally. She has written, articles, newsletters, political speeches, brochures, and has presented at national and international conferences on gender equity and violence prevention.
She considers her children and grandchildren her finest legacy. Fran currently resides in the Tampa Bay Florida with her cats.
Her philosophy is three-fold:
1. There is a solution to every problem using creative and positive thinking.
2. Help others, either by a simple act of kindness, or a volunteer project. It will come back, even though it might not be obvious or immediate.
3. Life is an adventure, live it.

“Some memories are best forgotten” Lily shuddered and softly closed the door.
“Murder in duplicate” è un libro uscito lo scorso Maggio per World Castle Publishing con cui sto collaborando da un po’ di tempo grazie alla straordinaria Barbara Hightower che mi ha praticamente adottato, con cui collaboro assiduamente e che è di una gentilezza estrema. Mi viene sempre incontro e mi scrive delle mail bellissime. E quando mi ha proposto di recensire questo romanzo breve non mi sono potuta tirare indietro. Anche perché basta che si parli di romance e io parto per la tangente, anche se è inserita in un mystery.
Sono rimasta affascinata da questo libro, nonostante non sia un’amante di questo genere di racconto, seppur c’è una base di romance, il vero argomento principe è il mistero che si svolge intorno a Lily. Ed è questa donna la protagonista indiscussa del racconto, è dal suo punto di vista che seguiamo le vicende. Lily è una donna con una doppia vita, una sorta di Clark Kent al femminile, anche se nel tempo libero non salva il mondo, ma scrive libri romantici con un sano tocco di mistero e indagine. Lily è stata adottata, ma ha una vita soddisfacente, un lavoro che le permette di pagare le bollette e tutte le sue spese e nel frattempo le concede tempo per esprimere e sviluppare la sua passione. Ma si sa, ad un certo punto della vita, e Lily ha 33 anni, una donna sente il desiderio di sistemarsi, mettere su famiglia. Quell’istinto naturale alla maternità, spesso accantonato per perseguire la propria carriera, inevitabilmente riaffiora e spinge la donna a cercare un uomo con cui condividere la sua vita. Nonostante Lily sia indipendente, ha comunque degli ormoni funzionanti e si ritrova un giorno a puntare lo sguardo su un uomo intrigante, misterioso e assolutamente affascinante. Uno di quelli che in un completo elegante ti tolgono il fiato, basta che ti guardano e ti disarmano, perché sono semplicemente stupendi. Con il fisico scolpito, i capelli curati e l’aria elegante che ben si addice ad un avvocato. E Ken sembra proprio la perfezione, l’uomo ideale da incastrare. Affabile, attento, dotato a letto, rispettoso, è assolutamente irreprensibile. Ma il mondo di Lily è destinato a cambiare a precipitare in un attimo.
Ambientato nella frenetica New York, è inevitabile che un omicidio sbuchi a compromettere la stabilità emotiva di Lily. Ed entra in gioco un personaggio quasi insignificante, Ted, con la sua presenza sconclusionata, sgarbata, inadeguata e disordinata. Un’apparizione, un’ossessione che la perseguita che rischia di mandare all’aria tutto l’efficiente lavoro di Lily. E Ted è l’anello di congiunzione tra presente e passato, verità e menzogna che farà alzare tutte le carte.
Una menzione va sicuramente riservata a Tori e Allison, due compagne di lavoro di Lily che avranno un ruolo fondamentale per lo sviluppo della storia.
Il particolare da non dimenticare? Una agendina di numeri di telefono rossa.
Affascinante, pieno di intrigo e colpi di scena, questo è il romanzo adatto per gli amanti della romance che ha una trama diversa dal solito: “si incontrano, hanno delle incomprensioni idiote, si lasciano, pacificazione speciale, si rimettono insieme”. Qui niente è come sembra, tutto ha un significato speciale, anche i dettagli più insignificanti. Splendidamente scritto, con un passo che aumenta in maniera esponenziale, con una scossa di adrenalina pazzesca, tiene il lettore letteralmente incollato alla pagina, che si ritrova smanioso di scoprire chi è il colpevole.

"Murder in Duplicate" is a genre crossing story that combines romance writing with a murder mystery.
Starting of on a darker note in the past the book quickly moves forward to the present and to a lighter tone. Editor Lily meets and falls for lawyer Ken, a match made in heaven.
As the two are dating and getting to know each other, well observed by Lily's friend and colleague Tory, Lily becomes a suspect in the murder of a co-worker.
I am amazed at how well the combination of romance and mystery worked, the darkness of the first chapter is forgotten and the approaching drama of the police investigation only slowly filters into the otherwise innocent and enjoyable follie of love.
The climax of the book ties everything together nicely and rather unexpectedly. This book is a pleasant deviation of what can be to this reader too sweet in the romance genre and too nerve-wrecking a murder mystery.
The subtlety of the plot unfolding is done masterfully and genuinely surprised me. A very well written and composed gem that I would highly recommend if you like romance and/ or crime fiction.

I thoroughly enjoyed this delightful book. It's a mixture of romance and mystery,packed with vivid description,intrigue, good dialogue and colorful characters that I could relate to. There's an unexpected twist at the end, that ties everything together.And, the happy-ever-after ending brought a smile to my face.I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good murder mystery - romance. Grab this book, sit down, put your feet up and enjoy! You won't be disappointed.

While not a long book, it sure does pack a lot of action and suspense. There are clues all along that if you wanted to try and figure it out before the end you probably could. The book gives a good balance of suspense with some romance but I'm not sure if I could categorize it as romantic suspense.
