The shiny vial of swirling gold dust lead Lugh here, looking for the next artifact. Here being...a vampire club, and not any vampire club but Selena's. Lugh learns a secret long kept from him, before the Mounds even fell, by his Unseelie Spies. That Unseelie Exiles are known as Earthborn Sidhe. Lugh will have to make new allies to try to help quicken his search for artifacts in order to help save the fading fey, and maybe even himself.

I'm glad for the quick mention of the swirling dust in the vial as it reminded me quickly what it is and Lugh's goals, drawing me back to Lugh's mission. Lugh has come across with a sensual vampire and much more transpires here.

We see more of Lugh here. He is an experienced ladies man, knowing how to win one over. Yet Selena is just as convincing as well, she knows the game well. But to keep Lugh returning to her bed and most likely her hunger for Sidhe blood, she agrees to help him.

Oh goodness! Lugh meets London! You know the desperate London from the Touched series. We see the view of the Touched humans on the Seelie side of the coin here through Lugh. They are cared and loved for their loyalty. We also have mention of past names from in the Touched series.

We learn what the Changelings were doing to the fey and their plans. Lugh is so close to finding more Sidhe, yet that's it as many would blame the Seelie for the fall of the mounds. But Lugh finds a group that he visits, and helps, then realizes how weak he's becoming. But we see the Fade is affecting others as well.

With this discovery of the Fade affecting others, I'm curious to learn about why and if Lugh will find a way to save them, and himself. Then there are the secrets London holds, will Lugh find out and shun her as well? Lugh maybe bedding with a dangerous ally to save the Sidhe.

Protector of the Light.

Summary
Since the Collapse of the Mounds, Lugh has spent every waking moment collecting the artifacts he needs to rebuild a magical realm for the fey. But without the fey realm to replenish the magic he expends, Lugh is Fading. Fast! Time’s running out. Enemies are circling. Forging dangerous alliances may well get him killed... or drive him down a dark path from which he might never be redeemed.

This instalment continues to follows Lugh on his mission and during this, we get to see him cross paths with London and Selena from the (Touched series) YES! Lugh and London meet! *Tries to contain excitement* And let me tell you, you’re all in for a surprise. That’s right!

Honestly, Archer and Ravynheart never disappoint! I know I’ve mentioned this before in previous reviews, but I just love the world that’s been created and it’s one that I want to jump in and be a part of. I have to say once you read one of these stories and come to care for the characters, they seem to grab you and never let go, and from that point you’re dying to know what’s going to happen next!

Ok, here’s a snippet of the story, which is also one of my favourite moments.

His name?

"Lugh."

He chuckled as nearly a third of the vampires fled the establishment, leaving nothing but a brief blur of movement in their wake. Those that remained were either brave or ignorant. He categorized Selena among the brave, even though her hand snatched back from him.
"Sun god." The whisper escaped her as if unbidden.

Exciting right?!

Very eager for more Lugh... I mean, the next instalment! ;)

Review of: Protector of the Light by authors: S. A. Archer and S. Ravynheart

Lugh is a Sidhe. His name means "Sun god". His current goal in life - to save the Sidhe by rounding up ancient artifacts for the power they have in them. He will do whatever it takes to reach his goal; including making a vampire woman and a human woman his allies. All this, while he fights a horrific disease called “the Fade” – slowly draining him of his magical power, and his very being. He states: "What fey survive the cataclysm are yet doomed to perish. But one chance remains. One slim breath of a hope. If I fail in my quest, all the fey will Fade forever from existence." (S.A. Archer and S. Ravynheart. Protector of the Light (Kindle Locations 183-184). Ravynheart Publishing).

As with all the other books of these authors, I found it so easy to vividly see in total detail the story unfold in my mind's eye as I read through this book (as if I was watching a movie in my head as I read). I was mesmerized by the rich details. I couldn't stop reading it until I finished the entire thing in one reading!

I am sooo anticipating the next one!

By the time I got to the end of this book, I had the thought "Man, this is not going to end well" on loop in my head. Things are looking rough for the Sidhe Champion and it doesn't seem like they'll be getting better any time in the near future. I want to throw out some standby sayings about the road to hell, good intentions, and all that jazz but I'm just going to leave it at "Man, this is not going to end well."

I do love how the story lines from all three stories are converging - London has crossed into Lugh's orbit and the earthborn are on his radar now. Lugh himself is showing that wicked, tricksy side of the Seelie that gives me the shivers. He's a master manipulator when the circumstances call for it. I like that.

Dark things are afoot and I can't imagine how Lugh's going to come away from this unscathed.

In the fourth book in the Champion of the Sidhe series, Lugh is still fighting the effects of the "fade." He has decided that he will do whatever it takes to save the fey and he has teamed up with some unlikely allies to do so.

When we first meet Lugh in "End of the World," he is the Seelie fey's golden boy. He will do anything to defend and uphold the honor of the fey.

By "Protector of the Light," Lugh is still working toward saving the Seelie fey, only he is using more unconventional methods to do so, which includes teaming up with Selena, a vampire, and London, a human.

Typically, I tend to enjoy the Unseelie fey series more than the Seelie. There's just something about Donovan and the other Unseelie fey that makes them easier to relate to. The Seelie have always seemed like they are a higher class of fey and they know it. Poor Unseelie fey...

I do like how Lugh is showing more of his dark tendencies in this novel and is making some very drastic decisions to save the Seelie fey.

Overall, this was another great installment in the series! I loved flawed characters and this is probably awful to say, but I am looking forward to see how far Lugh will fall from the light.

This review is from: Protector of the Light (Champion of the Sidhe urban fantasy series) (Kindle Edition)
In this book Lugh is still trying to find the magical talismans that will bring the Fey back. However, it is by chance that he runs into Salena and makes a deal with her to find the magical items that will revitalize the Fey and bring them back to life before the fade takes them over. He also meet London through Salena, but has no clue as to how they know so much about the Fey and what they have done to the Fey in the past. Salena is now an ally in Lugh's war to save the Sidhe. Through London, Lugh now knows that there are some Unseelie that yet live. Lugh helped them to fix a hole in the Great Veil (a magical barrier woven by the Sidhe). And he paid the price for doing so, his magic was gone. He needs the magical relics now, more than ever if he is to survive to bring back the Sidhe. Can he find the relics in time? I fear only the next book will tell. I can't wait the read the next book. They are so interesting, I have a hard time putting them down even if it is only for a few minutes.S.A. Archer
