Jaden Sinclair is the mother of two boys, married for thirteen years and has lived in Kansas most of her life. Her family supports her writing dream and are amazed at how vivid her imagination is at times.

She dreams up most of her ideas and writes every one of them down, making sure that one day her characters will get their own book. With so many new books coming to her almost daily it's a wonder at times she ever gets anything done. One of the interesting things that Jaden does with her writing is that she can always work on more than one book at a time.

In her spare time, when she can escape from the computer, Jaden knits and reads. But it's her love for writing as well as taking care of her family that keeps her the most busy.

I have beta-read three manuscripts, two partial, one full, over the last week so at the moment, I'm having a hard time shutting off that part of my brain. This book is a rape fantasy with a thin layer of Fated Mate Syndrome glossed over it. If your character's reason for doing something is 'oh, he's a werewolf,' then you need to make it very clear as to what type of werewolf he is. Any paranormal fan worth their salt can tell you that not all werewolves were created equal and there is a plethora of 'species' out there. I don't have an issue with rape fantasies, aside from the standard 'please, God, let it never happen to me' thought, but I demand some kind of internal logic, something that jives with the human psyche. Sinclair basically puts her heroine between two men, both of whom tote her around without her consent, both act sexually towards her without her consent, both threaten and terrify her, but we're supposed to believe one man is the 'good guy'? It's Stockholm Syndrome at its finest.

To continue being picky, I cannot think of a single example in the animal kingdom where the male is not fertile all the time. Going into heat generally means a female is fertile and exuding lots of pheromones to help encourage conception. So males do not go into heat! I could believe some kind of hormonal increase that corresponds with the lunar cycle, but I can't buy the hero 'going into heat.'

I should have looked at some reviews before starting this.

Another reviewer mentioned this is a "rape fantasy", and that's really not my cuppa. The H was very creepy and the book read like the story a stalker would tell of how he and his "girlfriend" met. Stefan meets Sidney after her crazy father kidnaps him to experiment on. He "knows" she's his and kisses her before he escapes. Lots of "Your mine!" and "You can't escape me!" from the H, plus the ever lovely "it's not rape if I love you!" line. I stopped at 30% because I knew it wasn't something I was gonna enjoy.

My Review: A chance incident lead Stefan to being at the wrong place at the right time. Sidney couldn't help but feel compelled to learn more about this boy who had been captured. She did not believe in werewolves but her father thought that's what Stefan was. The first time she saw him she was struck with a dream and for four years the dreams kept coming. He couldn't wait any longer to claim his mate. She resisted at first, but some things you just can't fight for long.

Stefan's Mark catches you from the very beginning. Pretty soon you keep turning the page trying to see how it will end. It builds up, laying the foundation for the future novels in the series. You will be kept longing to find out about what is to happen next with Skylar, left on the edge of your seat for Dedrick, and starving from hunger for more information about Stefan's mother and her part in the story. The novel flows like a steady river taking the reader on a ride of delight through the rapids and calm waters of their tale from the first page leaving you excited for the next voyage into Stefan's world.

Short story. Mine is only 67 pages, although the one listed her says over 100.

Sydney's dad captures Stefan when she's 18 and chains him in the basement to prove that werewolves exist. Stefan finds out that Sydney is his mate. 4 years later, he can't wait anymore and makes her his although they do have trouble trying to keep them apart.

For some reason, I really, really liked this story. I've read so many werewolf stories you'd think I've heard it all but I liked the intense nature of this story - which surprises me again because I was just mentioning to someone that I'm kind of tired of Lora Leigh's Breed books for the same reason. I'm fickle and contrary I guess. I would recommend this book/author.

Stefan's Mark fails on both fronts. The writing is technically flawed. The grammar is mediocre but, more significantly, the author has evidently never heard the adage "show not tell". Or, rather, she's decided to both show and tell - explaining every facial expression and emotional reaction ad infinitum. The story is no better - simply a vessel for some somewhat rapey sex scenes, some very questionable decision making and a fair bit of male posturing. FYI boys - kidnapping a girl is not romantic. With years of telepathic connection, you couldn't talk? Woo? Persuade? Connect? Or come up with a better plan than I'll force her and she'll love it?

Retrospective, applies to all/most in this series.
Some readers may find these books offensive as some contain coercion/dubious consent with regards to sex. However, having read the series I can get past that as the couples work out and lead happy lives together. I enjoyed the series and found the main storyline, which continues through the series, to be an entertaining albeit a tad formulaic read.

For the most part I enjoyed this book, Sidney got a little annoying with saying "I'll never be yours" I understood what she was trying to say/coming from but it could have been told/written about in different ways...mix it up a bit. Will be reading the next books in this series.

Book #86, for 2009

This Book crosses into what I would consider to be "dubious consent".
