“Fools dwelling in ignorance, yet imagining themselves wise and learned, go round and round in crooked ways, like the blind led by the blind.” –Swami Paramananda.
A broken royal family.
A fifth element among the four.
Two warring cultures and a lost prince destined to unite them.
After years of hiding in the slums with a resentful mother, Ezra reenters high society under the guise of a scholarship student at a prestigious military academy. Having endured his fair share of grueling hardships, he believes he knows how the world works.
The line is clear.
There are the highborn and the desert rats.
Just as divided as his kingdom, Ezra’s blunt perceptions are about to be challenged by his enigmatic uncle. Their unexpected reunion sets things into motion and turns Ezra's life upside down. From that point onward, he finds himself in a game of half-truths and mysteries, all seemingly orchestrated by his ever-scheming uncle, who is incapable of giving straight answers.
Unbeknownst to Ezra, his uncle is playing high stakes, and falling behind or refusing to participate is not a viable option.
I am Avery Hendrex, author of the Triloka Series, an M/M Fantasy Romance.
I’ve always enjoyed reading fantasy, but I found myself constantly looking for that perfect novel. When my searches proved futile, I began writing the stories I’d always wanted to read. I tend to focus on character development and the not-so-typical romance with just the right amount of antagonistic attraction. I love twists, turns, and epic plots. Action and politics are a must. Mostly, I love putting my main character through as many trials as he can reasonably endure and exploring how those trials impact him.
Triloka is not a traditional series. I consider it one (incredibly long) epic fantasy separated and divided into different 'Parts' of Ezra's journey. Currently, there are five parts planned for the Triloka Series. Please check out my website for updates/teasers on the series!:
Part I: Immune Part II: Inferior Part III: Imminent Part IV: Immortal (2026 release--TBA) Part V: Infinite (TBA)
Why is no one talking about this book? CRIMINALLY underrated. I’m not sure how to review this without giving the (AMAZING) plot away.
We have our strong protagonist, Micah, who lives in poverty in region 20 with his mother but is really the lost prince of the throne. Then we have his uncle who “knows everything” and takes Micah from his mother (the queen who ran away with her son) to the capital where only the uncle and a few in confidence know of his true identity. There’s lots of manipulation and twisted mind games. Who’s actually trying to help him and who’s determined to see him fall?
I loved the twists and turns! I didn’t see HALF the things coming. (Writing this review after reading book 2 and that’s another 5 stars right there) I’ve never read a book like this. It’s heavily inspired by Hindu mythology which was again— really, really interesting.
I can’t WAIT for book 3. Does anyone know the release date? I can’t find the author on socials. Help!!
I have read so many of this author’s works online. I am an extremely critical reader, and her epic works have consumed me whole. The dynamic characters, the wicked sharp and witty dialogue, the layered worlds, the brilliant magic, the thrilling action, and the intense, slow burn romances are absolutely captivating. It’s felt many times like I’m watching a series. The author was due to finally start profiting from her talents and I for one will fully support her gift. Wait to go, girl - even though I’ve never never met you, I’ve been reading for years - and I heartily agree that you’ve earned this!
Amazing, show-stopping, spectacular, stunning, thrilling, withstands the test of time, phenomenal, extraordinary, wonderful, truly owns my heart, tattoo every highlight onto my forehead and my heart
I've been waiting for Years and it has not disappointed. The writing? Amazing. The dialogue? Obsessed. The plot? Fascinating. Hotel? Trivalgo. I can't wait to re-obsesses over this for the 5th time.
I've been told by two people that not reading this means missing out on "one of the best slowburn mm romance with unrivaled worldbuilding fantasy to exist" so yeah I'll add this to my list. It does intrigue me ngl but let's see when I come back to this!
The writing was quite repetitive at the start, and there were quite a few grammatical errors but the author is self published so I can forgive that. I loved the world building and how it was incorporated through our the book rather than just infodumping at the beginning.
Our mc, Ezra, was written quite well. The author took a lot of liberty in showing, rather than telling, how smart and cunning he was. He was interesting to read about and I wasn't bored being in his head. I loved getting to see his weaknesses along with his strengths.
As for the side characters, I only really cared about Keegan and Kai and well... that didn't end well for me. There's also the giant fucking elephant in the room but the mutual who recommended this to me warned me beforehand so I was able to prepare myself!
What an brilliant and unexpected book. I got this book from a tweet that read something like “1600 pages and 2 books later they finally kiss”. I asked “is it worth the wait?” and they replied “if you like politics in fantasy yes” and that was all I needed. Never did I expect to be so utterly and irrevocably attached to these characters and story. I suddenly don’t care about the original tweet, anything could happen in this series and I will love it. I cried immensely at the end and I will never recover. I can’t believe I would’ve never found this book if I hadn’t been on twitter at that time, since I don’t follow the poster and this is a debut trilogy from an indie author. SUPPORT INDIE AUTHORS!! You could find gems like these! I have no idea what will happen in the following books, I feel exactly like the main character and I don’t know who to trust. For years I’ve been looking for something that satisfied me the same way as the Captive Prince trilogy did and I think this will be it. 5⭐️ I can’t think of a single flaw, this will become a favorite series if the following books are as good as this.
Not gonna lie, I went into this one with pretty high expectations and it exceeded them. This is the first book of the year for me where I had to instantly download the next book in the series because I haaaaave to know what happens next!
If you are a Will of the Many fan, this will be right up your alley.
This is my favourite series ever. And I know what you are thinking... are you crazy? You actually picked a favourite? Yes I did. And it is this one.
Everything is perrfection. The story is so well written. Characters are amazing, their dinamic is delicious and I love love love Ezra. He has became my sweetheart over the years that I followed the series and reread it a thousand times. I am extremly dedicated to his life:)
I didn't really like the writing. Felt confusing when there really didn't seem that much to be confused about. Just didn't seem like it was written well. I got maybe 20% and decided it wasn't worth it for me. Maybe it is and someone can convince me the writing improves or entice me with some other thing, but for now it's a pass.
This is MASTERPIECE! I have never read something like this before. I want to say so much, but don't want to spoil anything.
First of all, from what I understand I can't buy TRILOKA in physical form, which pains ME physically. If the author of this incredible piece of literature ever reads this, please I NEED it on paper! I don't care how expensive, I just need to have it. And also... to give you the money, you deserve!
Anyways... Back to the show... English is not my first language, so I am biased, but I have never read something written this way. The writing style is immaculate. I love the way the language is used. It's polished and can convey so much with just a few words.
It's a shame not many know about Triloka (for now), but you all should know I will recommend it as my TOP3 series ever from now on (I am writing this review after reading the second book).
About the story and characters... What makes this so good is actually simply It's unpredictability. The best books manage to surprise me at least a few times. Here? I wasn't prepare for what will happen in the next page. Hell! I wasn't sure what to expect in next paragraph. This didn't happenned to me in years. YEARS! And I loved every minute of it. For example: I was soooo not sure about the love interest... WHO is it? Because if it is THAT ONE, how can the story spin it for me to truly wish for them to be together...
Ezra is a mystery and at the same time not really. Such complex character shows us a lot, but still has his secrets. He's not exactly a hero and I love the way we can experience his mortality, his faults, his victories. Then there is Josiah...He's hard to comprehend. We know only as much as he wants us to know. I found him intriguing from the beginning... And as the time went by, I was enamored. I won't even start about THE TENSION... Because I could feel it. If this is not an evidence of how immerse the story is, I don't know what is. Then we have Kai. I didn't feel like liking him that much. Because issues... I was wrong. Keegan... Such a lovely young men. Exactly the friend Micah needs. I truly enjoyed his parts of the story. I can't believe I will say this: I need more Sachiel. He's such a sly fox! And I didn't have enough of him. I am interested in his story, actually... He's cute and fun. (And in my mind he's totally georgeous... with bows in his hair and fashion sense nobody can touch.) Other friends and characters in general are also really well written. I can distinguis between tons of different personalities. And that's not something simple to achieve.
Now I need time to process 2nd book and then I will write another review.
4.5 🌟this first book to really enthrall me this year like woah.
this book did sooooo much right in the fact that i was constantly entertained, slowly fell in love with most of the characters (except micah, i loved that diva right from the beginning), was actually interested in the politics and magic system and universe (normally that’s all fodder and uninteresting to me in most of the books i pick up but was so very much driving the bus here)
i this was really cool, well written, made me feel a VARIETY of emotions (good and bad……iykyk) I’D SAY WE GOT SOME FOUND FAMILY VIBES IN THE MAKING TOO LIKE HELL YEAH gold team we’re up🤩🤩
im v excited to start book 2 next :3
LIGHT NO CONTEXT SPOILERS// i cannot believe this was marketed as an m/m romance bc omg who tf is he supposed to be getting with atp😭😭😭😭😭😭
SPOILERS BELOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!///////⚠️⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️ no bc what is the bit about him and his uncle like ik by the end they’re like he’s possessed by a demon it’s no longer him!!!! ermmmmm WELL MICAH DIDN’T KNOW THAT like that whole bit is the only thing that’s not making this 5 stars but i had too much fun reading this so like im here for the ride now🤓
This is one of the best Books i have ever truly read. Came for a mm and started because of a truly well done fantasy that honestly no other series does for me. I truly hope Avery continues her path as an author, she writes beautifully.
I first read this book when the author was still writing it back in 2021 and the books were still on ao3, and I´ve fallen in love. Have read it about a milion times since. Could´t recommend this book enough. Just read it and you will understand
Interesting characters and just the right amount of information to keep you on your toes and eager for more. I loved the paced, the action was awesome, and I declared myself a fan of Lord Josiah. I can't wait to know more of his intentions and story...
I absolutely love this book and I feel bad I didn't write this review earlier because I got a hold of Book 1 and 2 the instant it was released on Amazon. I've always felt lucky I could follow this author and read their works because they are so incredibly gifted with world building, crafting stories and characters. It's so exciting to see this series being published!
There's this epic feeling I get when reading this book, alongside some booming movie soundtrack. It's like when you first watch Dune and every shot of the sprawling desert and every line of dialogue uttered kept you at the edge of your seat. That's how it feels when reading this story. Ezra is constantly under threat and there's deadly political games being played. The power play dialogue with his mysterious uncle is intense and highly enjoyable to read. You watch Ezra start off on the back foot as an unknown player, experiencing discrimination due to this dual heritage and hiding many many secrets, and can only admire how he takes control and power whilst hiding his true identity as the prince. It's so incredibly fun to read. Ezra is highly intelligent and has been trained in both combat and in the political arena, but where he has his strengths, his weaknesses are also acknowledged and the author doesn't shy away from that - yet another thing I love about this story. I love watching this character grow and how the mysteries get unravelled along the way.
It's so clear that a lot of time, love and passion has been into this story/series and I can't help but rave on about it. You want some well-written combat and battle action? Magic? Slow burn? Political machinations? Mythology? Incredibly funny and witty dialogue? This has everything and I can't recommend it enough!
This was absolutely fantastic. It felt like I was watching a high fantasy action shonen anime! The story follows Prince Ezra or commonly known as Micah Egan. He lives in the desert outer regions in Concordia Kingdom with his erratic mother when one day his uncle gives him a scholarship and tells him to attend the military academy in the Capital. That’s the main base plot happening but there are so many other mysteries happening in the background: - The fact that people have no idea that Micah Egan is a prince and when they do find out, (a biracial heir!) things are going to get crazy - Micah having cool unexplained ice powers and the fact that he repels all elements - I’m currently holding space for both Wayne and Keegan (Keegan MY SHAYLAAA COME BACK TO MEE NOOOO) - The power struggle between Calder and Lord Josiah - Micah lowkey being obsessed with his uncle - His uncle highkey being obsessed with Micah - Micah and Kai’s rivalry. I love Kai btw the way he is a bit of knobhead but please can he make it to book five I AM BEGGING!!! - The fact I have no idea who endgame is, because I’m like why does he have off the walls chemistry with his uncle??? I AM CONFLICTED BUT I LIKE IT. Genuinely THE best fantasy book I have read all year. 1000000 STARS. I’m so obsessed. Micah you are everything. I want special edition version of these books I wonder if Fairyloot can pick these up because I KNOW the art will be soooo good.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
You did it!!!!!!!!! My “Beautifully shattered”, you did it!!! Congratulations for publishing
I was re-reading Mafia runner for the nth time and was planning to read “Immunity series” when I came across this. We have exchanged messages since a long while for mafia runner in fiction press and now getting to see you succeed and getting there, really makes me feel a proud mama 😄
Wish you all the best and keep going. Still awaiting Mafia runner sequel along with all part of the Immunity/Triloka series
Read this book before published and honestly can’t get enough of it. The series just gets better and better. The characters grow so much and are quite realistic. Also love the cultures and how the world interacts with each other
4.25 ⭐ demasiado ambiguo todo lo que pasa y nunca cierran una idea de la parte fantástica, me quedé con el triple de preguntas que tenía al empezarlo pero estuvo bueno, al menos los personajes se hacen querer (a la larga)
