The World #16

It Never Ends

Rate this book
Running around Aeroch Nor, Startum Ironwolf has a lot to do and little time to do it in. He needs to swing by the lower caverns for his new Dwarfling vassals, face off against an enraged Badruc, and deal with the resulting clan politics, which doesn’t include his visit to the Great Library where the Azure Skull Mages are on alert against infiltrators. On top of that, the Goon Squad hasn’t forgotten the ass-whooping he handed them the night before.

Arriving in the port city of Dolurn, Star and his friends discover that it’s not just the Kraken that’s gonna be a major problem. Marshal Slangneedon hasn’t given up trying to interfere with his wager against Viscount Hollysharp. The old Gnome quickly proves that he has a few more dirty tricks up his sleeves. And if that isn’t bad enough, there is more trouble laying in wait for them. It quickly becomes apparent that even if the HollyTerror arrives in time, all might still be lost.

This moves quickly back and forth across current story streams. Great to see all quickly coming to head with old/new enemies popping up. Now gonna wait ages for book as am guessing he gonna rls bk 2 of terminus before bk17 of this series. So write faster!!!!

Delightful Large Scale Fantasy

Ignore the whiners. Jason Cheek has good story telling, doesn’t slow walk the combat, and tells a large scale story of politics, intrigue, culture, war and the nature of deception.

Wonderful

I love this story. Real people, making good and bad decisions makes me feel a connection with them. The story also advanced almost 2 days and pared back on the long vignettes that I found to be a better ratio of the book.

Keep up the good writing!

Sadly I have to agree with other readers. Come for Star, not for 'Game of Thrones Lite'. Already the first books with only take place over a day were slow enough but at least it was still focused on Star.

Then there was some experimentation with Side Characters at the very end, Maybe one chapter from another view. Fine..interesting addition.

But now it's 30% Star, taking 6 books to get five feet and 40% Side characters and then 20% stat pages. So really you only have like 150-200 pages of Star and he's doing nothing in it. Go to town, get in fight, side adventure, sex talk, repeat. It's getting boring.

Honestly It got to the point, I literally just skip any chapter that isn't Star. I'll learn about what's going on in the world when Star does.

Please Jason, STOP with the side characters. Focus on Star and the main adventure. If you really want to tell about side characters , write a 16.5 Novella story full of just them but stick to JUST STAR in your main series. Every book should have a start , mid and finish of his story. All this traveling from his battle mage quest to the Kraken fight and back to Broken Fang? THAT SHOULD BE ONE BOOK. A start, Mid battle, and finish climax. Not 6 freaking books to do one mini arc.

If you started the book as some game of thrones, 16 characters from the start and following them with no MC that's fine but transitioning from a central MC viewpoint to multiple character series where the old MC isn't doing anything? Not fun. Rule of thumb, If Star isn't gained at least 15-30 levels PER BOOK, you're going too slow.

forest for the trees

16 books in, barely past a quarter of max level. It took what 13 books to get a class. It’s like a soap opera with too many characters taking side quests, talking about the same self realizations, while still having yet to complete anything. At this rate it’ll take a decade before the incursions are defeated and he has a sit down with Mila, these are book 1 issues that are still percolating while adding on more problems. I hope this series is doing well for you and you find the finish line. If the series is ever concluded I may finish it, but as of now future Jason’s problems are here.

Advertisements mid book and filler.

Yet again, the book itself stops at about 76% of the whole thing, and nearly 25% is advertisement on their other books, and filler about gear and levels .
It seems despite this happening in prior books, it is only persisting and becoming more exacerbated.

In addition to this, there were many mismatched words, typos, and spelling errors. I had hoped my last review would have been taken to heart, but these reviews will persist until such things change.

Good story

Great, long-running book series. I enjoy every bit of the story and worldbuilding. My problem is the appendix. It's 20% of the book in this particular one. Almost 21%. That massively inflates the page count and should not be part of the book. Put that bologna on Wikipedia or something. Also the last few books have only been hours long chunks of story in the book. Still a good story, but without the appendix, 2 books would be one book. This needs to be fixed.

All for nothing

So all that secrecy and build up means nothing when a totally random new character suddenly shows up with the ability to steal schematics. What do you mean a master isn't required for building a submarine, a Journeyman engineer isn't going to copy the details enough to be the same product.

You make this too complicated.

Still fantastic

This series continues to be a fantastic adventure and I can't wait for more. In this installment the terrible ex, Julie, pops in, and we get to continue to be totally annoyed in a good way, by Sir Talos and his snooty wife. I am looking forward to Helgath finally getting to set those two straight.

This has lost the story

It's like watching the show 24 Hours. Just bogged down in minutia without advancing any plot. The character actions are becoming predictable because it is basically the same interactions over and over. I much prefer the early books

It was worth it

Though it took a while for the story to build far enough for us to GRT to this point it was worth it. And of course if you have something nice everyone would want to take it.

Good

The auther keeps adding more and more characters , I haven't got a clue who most of them are and as most either appear briefly or don't effect the main story I don't attempt to remember them. Another good book in the series but to bring all the story arcs together is going to take another ten books at least and with the increased gaps between books that's years.
