Every person lives either believing what God says and staking his or her life on it, or in betting on one's own attitudes, intellect, and understanding β€” those are the only options. True faith doesn't need to be convinced. It is believing what God said simply because He is God, and He said it. That which looks for signs, wonders, and explanations is not faith β€” it's doubt looking around to see if it can find some proof. Often, to believe God is to do that which in unreasonable, illogical, and certainly different to the world's dictates; yet faith willingly obeys. … See the examples of faith in Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham! Insightful. This is the second of MacArthur's commentaries that I have read, and I have found them both to be easy to read and profitable. Many of the observations MacArthur makes are easy to miss, but they also seem obvious once he says them, and he is always careful to show how he gets them from the text itself. When reading this, one can quickly tell that the author is a man who believes in the authority of God's word. The only critique I would have is that the formatting of the commentary is a little confusing at times.
