Kitty Collins #2

I Bet You’d Look Good in a Coffin

Rate this book
Your favourite anti-heroine, Kitty Collins, is back! Expect more wit, sass, and, of course, murder…My name is Kitty Collins and I’m a serial killer.

I don’t want to kill. It’s just so hard to resist. Some men really, really deserve it.

Men like Blaze Bundy, an anonymous influencer spreading misogyny online. He’s making it very hard for me to control my murderous urges.

Meanwhile I’m in the South of France to watch my mother marry a man I’ve never met. I should be drinking cocktails and focusing on my tan, not plotting a murder.

But a woman’s work is never done. Surely one more teensy little kill wouldn’t hurt, would it?

Fans of How to Kill Your Family and Bad Sisters will love this deliciously dark, hilariously twisted new novel from the author of How to Kill Men and Get Away With It and The Murder After the Night Before.

"Its not even about what happened to me. Its what is happening to us always. All the fucking time. It's not fun to be a woman. No matter how much we think the world has changed, it really hasn't."

The story starts off with Kitty telling us about a rising social media "influencer" called "Blaze Bundy" who is dangerously misogynistic and derogatory towards women. We then follow Kitty through a journey of trying (and failing) to control her anger, relationships with her friends, her mum and her boyfriend and the concerning threats directed at her from Blaze. This all comes to a head in a really gripping way with some great twists and turns, I could not put this book down and finished it in a day.

We live in a society where narcissistic misogynist's can easily access platforms on social media to spread their hatred promoting toxic masculinity, so honestly I cannot tell you how refreshing it was to read a book that is willing to highlight and discuss these issues. The author is masterful in refusing to shy away from the subject matter but also adding in some much needed light hearted humour to ease the strain of reading such a heavy topic.

Honestly? I adored Kitty. I'm not going to sit here and say Kitty is without flaw. My girl NEEDS to get herself some therapy. Oh and maybe I've left it a little late in my review to drop the news that she's a serial killer...but I truly am rooting for her to get a happy ending.

All this to say, I really loved this book, its thought provoking, heartbreaking, funny, real, raw and a little wacky. A pretty great combination.

Some quotes I loved...

"It just all makes me so angry. Every time I turn on the news. Every time I go on social media. Every time I speak to a woman. There's just so much that makes me angry. Bea, I am literally sat here wanting to kill your ex-husband. But not just him, I also want to murder the judge that handed your babies over to him. I want to punch the people who made the judicial system so fucking anti-women in the face over and over again until their brains explode out of their ears"

"My mind already several miles ahead of me wondering who she is, who she wont be going home to tonight and which man is responsible for her death. Because it's always a man, isn't it?"

“Just another victim of the patriarchy he doesn’t believe in. Another white man who is furious that his life didn't deliver what it was supposed to and he wants to blame a women for it."

Thank you to NetGalley for the free ARC ❤️

A bit far fetched, but very dark, twisty and fun. 🔪 🩸

Female serial killers avenging wrongs done to women is a good trope. We support women’s rights and women’s wrongs here. 🧍‍♀️

I wont write a complete review for this because it’s got so many twists and turns I do not want to spoil it. But anyone who is frustrated or disgusted by the amount of misogyny, especially online, in the world today, this is a cathartic book with lots of dismemberment and blood spatter. I did guess the villain early on but was still taken on a ride of twists and turns and was worried for the character presented as a red herring. Kitty does have a history of cutting off dicks and acting a tad impulsively with her manicide. In this one we delve more deeply into Kitty as a character and I was weirdly sympathetic to her struggles to not murder and quite encouraging of her breaking her serial killer sobriety. Do what you love, girlie.
The ending obviously is setting up the next book so it wasn’t wrapped up nice and tight, however it did leave me wanting more murder and mayhem and comeuppance for horrible men.
**********************

SO EXCITED FOR MORE MAN MURDERING!

Kitty Collins #2

Kitty Collins is desperately trying to stay away from murder but misogynists like Blaze Bundy make that resolution tough to fulfil. Just one more to add to the pile can’t hurt surely? When her mother Carmella sends her an invitation to her wedding in the South of France, Kitty is reluctant to go for obvious reasons. However, who is this Gabriel that she’s planning on marrying?? She has no choice other than to go to the Côte d’Azur. Aww shucks, well, someone has to. Can Kitty stay out of trouble? Can a duck swim?

This is very easy to read, in fact, I glide through it. It’s a highly entertaining fun read with plenty of wit and chuckles. I like Kitty and tbh she has a point! Her methods? Okay, a bit suspect. Oh alright, downright bad but for the right reasons? It has an excellent message and obviously the funny is counterbalanced by the darkly macabre and gory especially when Kitty’s anger at THAT type of man is unleashed. There are several opportunities to guess, there’s loads going on and plenty of twists and turns to keep you engaged in the storyline. It ends on an intriguing note and I’d prefer it to be left there as I think you can have too much of a good thing despite Kitty being a great character. However, I suspect there’s a third one in the pipeline and I’m sure I’ll want to read it!

Overall, it’s not easy to write a good follow up to a successful novel but suffice it to say Katie Brent has nailed it.

With thanks to NetGalley and especially to HQ for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.

3.5 stars, rounded down - this is a sequel for Brent’s “How to Kill Men & Get Away with it” which I did read and enjoyed. Sadly, this one seems to have lost some of it’s “female Dexter” vibe and introduced lots of other characters and plot lines that were IMHO less successful or even believable. Still, the MC Kitty does have a certain vigilante appeal & I liked learning more of her back-story and motivations. Unsure if I’ll read the next or not.

Kitty Collins is back and, wow, she's kicking it up a notch! I loved the first book, so I was seriously excited for the sequel and it did not disappoint. This time, Kitty’s going international, unleashing all her feminine rage and acting on those wild, intrusive thoughts and somehow getting away with it. The book hooked me from the start, and I couldn’t put it down. It was fast-paced, and never once boring.

The twist at the end was a total shocker, and I’ll admit, I did not see that coming at all. Katy’s writing is witty and engaging, and even though Kitty is deeply flawed, I still can’t help but root for her. I devoured most of it in one sitting because it was that gripping. If I could give this book more than five stars, I totally would!

I’m crossing my fingers for a third installment and maybe some much-needed therapy for Kitty. Until then, I’ll just be over here, still obsessing over this story.

Kitty Collins is back.
In the South of France, her urge to kill men is sparked once again. And men like Blaze Bundy might deserve it.

◦: My Thoughts :◦
▸ Author – I will never get on Katy’s bad side. She’s a total badass, and honestly, I’m a little terrified of her. You can feel her passion and drive come through in the character of Kitty. Kitty’s pure hatred toward certain men is scary. Some days... I’m absolutely here for it.

▸ Short Chapters – I live for books with short chapters! Every chapter felt like its own mini-adventure, with something new always happening. The quick pace made the book feel fast, thrilling, and impossible to put down.

▸ Character Development – Kitty Collins stays true to herself the entire time. She’s sharp, funny, and absolutely unforgettable. She’s easily become one of my all-time favourite fictional characters.

▸ Overall – You’d be an absolute legend if you recommended this book to your book club. It’s fun, fierce, and there’s so much to unpack and discuss. You definitely need to read the first book to fully enjoy this one. I highly recommend listening to book one on audio and reading book two physically. You’ll actually hear Kitty’s voice in your head while reading. It’s bloody brilliant… and suddenly, you’re British.

This was incredibly hard to put down. Dare I say, even better than the first. I cannot wait to read the next one.

She’s back!!! I’ve been kind of excited to find out what my fave feminist defender and slayer of disgusting, misogynistic, abusive men, that the world is better off without, is doing for fun these days. In Kitty’s world, “some people just need killing” and it just so happens that they’re all men who think that women exist to serve their purpose. I like Kitty!!! She and I are so completely opposite in every way – except one. Personally, there have been times in my life (starting with my abusive, ex-husband) that I have truly dreamed about getting rid of some evil &!(%head in an effort to make the world a better and safer place for women. While I have never been a Kitty, dreaming of being Kitty like has been cathartic at times. It forced me to become smarter and stronger. Amen!

Anyway, the book summary introduces the primary storylines: Kitty’s mother getting married and Blaze Bundy stalking and threatening Kitty. What the book summary doesn’t mention is that Kitty is actually trying to go clean (ie, stop killing terrible men). She had given up social media, hadn’t killed anyone in six months and had joined a 12-step program for Angry Women Anonymous in an effort to stop being raging mad at the injustice of the patriarch and its detrimental effect on the female race. It’s here that Kitty actually falls off the wagon and kills a famous tv news reporter that raped another member’s 18yr daughter who was an intern at the station. This is not a spoiler since it happened really early in the story.

Most of the story revolves around Kitty escaping London to France because she made so many mistakes at the kill site, she is now afraid that she will be caught and going to her mother’s wedding (which she was not going to go to) may actually be a great idea. In the first book, we learned that Kitty’s mother abandoned Kitty when she was 15 or 16 because Kitty had killed her father one night as he was beating and raping her mother. That was Kitty’s first kill and now that Kitty is 30, Kitty and her mother have been pretty estranged since that night and rarely talk or see each other.

In France, Blaze catches up with Kitty along with Kitty’s past life with a boatload of secrets that had been buried until now when they rose from the dead. France pretty much becomes a $%*! show and the ending has Kitty roaring back in her glorious splendor, only now, she has an accomplice. Ooohhh, is this a lead-in to the next installment, Ms Brent?

The continuing character development of Kitty was entertaining and well done. The pacing was steady and the storyline very interesting. The writing was also entertaining and on par for the series, so far. I loved the ending and truly hope it is a lead-in. That would certainly promise more of Kitty and her continued journey of ridding the world of worthless, vile men, that the world has wwwaaayyy too many of anyway and definitely needs to get rid of the worst of them. I’m looking at an overall rating of 4.1 that I will be rounding down to a 4star review.

This was a fun read, but I felt it was a bit drug out at times. It's still a fun read and follow-up to the first.

🔪Female Empowerment
This is the follow-up book to How To Kill Men and Get Away With It, which was rather funny but also had such a fun storyline. I'm looking forward to finishing this book and continuing to read Kitty's story.

Just fabulous! Our favourite vegan, female serial killer is back. Kitty Collins is a wonderful character, with a heart of gold and sharp tongue, she will do anything to protect those she loves, and I mean anything. She dresses well, has amazing shoes and is now living with her boyfriend, Charlie. And she should be happy.. but something is missing.

It has been a year since her last kill and she is getting that itch again. Every where she looks there are awful men who are just asking for her attention., especially an influencer called Blaze Bundy. He has his sights set on Kitty and she has no idea who he is, but knows that his content is dangerous. In top of all of this, her mother is back in her life and is getting married.

This was so fun to read, but with a serious theme for women. It is sassy, it is clever and it is funny. Yes ok, it is also dark, gory and messy, but that is also fun right?! I will read anything Katy Brent writes, she has a way of just getting the reader hooked and not letting go.

Published on January 30th, 2025, this will be perfect beach reading for us Aussies. Thank you HQ for the super early copy to read.

I feel so lucky to have been given the chance to read this book so early! I found this to be a perfect sequel! Following on from the previous book, readers are introduced to Kitty Collins and her life a year on from where we left off and keen to ditch her old ways in exchange for a new life, Kitty is left fighting an urge that consumes her every being. Throughout we are treated to dark witty humour, twists and turns and fast paced action that keeps you hooked throughout. The pacing of this intense yet fun thriller meant this was an easy read for me and I found myself up until the early hours of the morning consuming every single page. Old characters are put right back in front of us including Kitty's friendship group and boyfriend along with new characters along away. A key new face readers are introduced to is online misogynist Blaze Bundy who presents as a very relevant and annoyingly common character, reflecting real life personas we see in our day to day life. Touching on the rise of incel culture and online violence and the normalisation of violence against women and misogyny, this was a book that felt extremely current while also tapping into the female rage so many are experiencing thanks to the rise in all that was just mentioned. Kitty Collins presents herself as the face of female rage and revenge and it makes for a satisfying and intense read.

Katy Brent has gifted her fans with an excellent fast paced thriller full of action, emotion, gore and humour. This was a read that felt current and action packed, keeping you on the edge of your seat as you read further. Going into this fans are sure to have high expectations following a brilliant first book but not only did Brent live up to those expectations she exceeded them and dare I say I enjoyed this even more than the first which I had already rated a five star. Left wanting even more from Katy Brent and Kitty Collins I cannot recommend this book enough. This right here is a must read.

I just don’t even know where to start. This book felt like TikTok threw up on a page and didn’t know when to stop because what the actual fuck.

The twists and surprise reveals were obvious and ridiculous, scenes were dragged on for longer than necessary, Kitty’s kills were sloppy and lacklustre and honestly just felt like the author was trying too hard to make her points about violence towards women.

There are detailed descriptions of violent acts and dialogue that goes on and on about these crimes that I felt could have been omitted and we would have had the same outcome. I don’t want to take away the importance of having these conversations, but it did feel as though the author dialled it right up in her second book, so much so that it became impossible to read without being reminded that men are evil.

I could not put this book down!!!!!!! I read it in less than 24 hours ( them hours included sleep and work!) I loved how this book was written, some chuckles on what kitty says in her head when having conversations with others. I didn't realise there was a book 1 which I will definitely read. although nothing seems to phase Kitty when it comes to her doing those things she's should be and taking things into her own hands, I can help but love her. I guess the ending wrong which is a first for me, although suspicions I was soon thrown off again. Great read and first read for me by this author, but definitely not my last! Thank you netgalley and publisher and author for this book

I Bet You'd Look Good in A Coffin is the second book in the wonderfully funny series featuring Kitty Collins, the best vegan serial killer in crime fiction.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first book How To Kill Men and Get Away With It which I read in April 2023, and despite being almost 18 months ago since I read it, it was easy to pick up from where we last left Kitty and re-enter her rather funny, warped and often disastrous life.

There aren't many books that I read in one sitting, but this is one that grabbed me from the opening chapter and I didn't stop until the final paragraph.

It's now a year since Kitty has killed. She's living with her boyfriend Charlie, still close with her girlfriends and living what appears to be her ideal life, except something isn't quite right. When an invitation arrives to her mother's wedding in the South of France, it coincides with some unwanted attention from a dangerous influencer called Blaze Bundy.

Honestly, this was such a fun story. Kitty is my heroine. It doesn't matter that she's a serial killer because she is sassy, funny, loyal and utterly bonkers and that's why I adore her.

I can't wait to see what happens next to Kitty and hope that Katy Brent has already started writing book 3!

Darkly Funny and Deliciously Twisted

Katy Brent delivers another razor-sharp, pitch-black comedy in I Bet You’d Look Good in a Coffin. With her trademark wit and biting social commentary, Brent crafts a fast-paced revenge tale that’s as entertaining as it is sinister. The protagonist is delightfully unhinged and terrifying. The plot barrels forward with unexpected twists, snarky humor, and a surprising amount of heart.

What keeps this from being a full 5 stars for me is that a few of the supporting characters felt a bit underdeveloped, and the pacing occasionally rushed through moments that could've been richer. Still, it’s a wildly fun, feminist romp through murder, mayhem, and messy morals.
Just be warned once you start, you won’t want to put it down. I read this from 100 pages to finish 333 pages in one night I couldn't put it down. I enjoyed this book more than the first book how to kill men and get away with it.

"The family that slays together stays together"

I haven't read the first book in this series so wasn't sure what to expect, but I really enjoyed this book and could follow it easily despite not reading book 1. Kitty is hilarious as our FMC, even through all of her trauma and the heartbreak surrounding her, her dark humour and bluntness made the story light-hearted whilst serious and informative.

The female Dexter strikes again.
But this time she’s murder sober and goes to all the AW-meetings (Angry Women Management).
I’ve to say that the intrigue was fenomenal but something less enjoyable was the fact that this cold hearted slaughterer has a weak soft side? Felt unnecessary. Although the plot twist was great and I enjoyed the whole mom (mommy? Mamacita!) element.

First 5 star book of 2025!
I LOVED this! Absolutely flew through it and could not put it down - read the majority of it in a day, it was a perfect poolside read. Kitty is just as darkly funny and murderous as she was in the first instalment but I also enjoyed the elements of fear and paranoia which developed her character further. There were some fantastic twists throughout, initially I felt like it would be obvious who Blaze Bundy was but Brent really made that a red herring and the reveal was really surprising. I also loved the Angry Women Anonymous storyline and loved how Kitty helped them all, in her own ways. Kitty’s mum was also a great character, really well written with her own little twists.

After reading and loving How to kill men and get away with it earlier this year, I was so excited to be approved for this ARC!

I bet you'd look good in a coffin is book #2 in the kitty Collins series. Following the titular kitty Collins, a rich influencer and heiress to a meat processing company who murders men who she deems deserves it. Mainly murderers, predators, pedophiles, rapists and wife beaters. In this edition she is going against the antagonist whilst dealing with her estranged mother who is marrying seemingly a stranger out of the blue.

This is a direct sequel to how to kill men and get away with it, these cannot be read out of order; the entire plot of the first book is spoiled in the first 50 pages of this. If you haven't read that first I highly recommend you do.

Given that, it is hard to discuss the plot in much detail without heavy spoilers.

The antagonist of the book is known by the alias "Blaze Bundy". He is a social media persona that incites hate and violence towards women and has taken an interest in Kitty, seemingly knowing the events of book 1. I would liken his character to a love child of Donald trump and Andrew Tate.

The twist at the end in hindsight is quite predictable and I kicked myself for not guessing it sooner. There is a red herring about 2/3 into the book which I thought was quite an obvious red herring.

I did very much enjoy this and similarly to book 1 was a very quick and fun read. I don't think I enjoyed it quite as much there just seemed to be something missing.

Compared to book 1 this book has less murder but approaches difficult and hard topics harder and in more depth. There are semi-detailed descriptions of sexual assaults and attempted rapes which would not be appropriate for every reader to read.

"Men like that think 'no' is a negotiation... and if that doesn't work, they just take what they want anyway"

Thank you to NetGalley and HQ digital publishing for providing an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
