About the author

Hilary Elizabeth Margitich writes about things that are fascinating and important to today's kids. She is an author of the HISTORY OF HOLIDAYS AND FESTIVALS series (ABDO Publishing, 2024), THE WORLD OF MONEY series (The Child's World, 2025), a third series to be released in the fall of 2026, and her debut picture book in the fall of 2028. Hilary holds her Graduate Certificate in Children's Literature from Penn State University, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University. She works as a children's literacy volunteer with several nonprofit organizations. Hilary lives in the Boston area with her husband, three sons, and a dog and cat who are roughly the same size.

It is impossible to go 24hrs in today's world without the topic of cryptocurrency popping up in the news, politics, a sitcom, you name it. I knew the basics from exposure, but I was struggling to answer my kids' questions and quickly realized how thin my own grasp was of this topic. This book is a clear and comprehensive introduction to the world of crypto - where it came from, how it works, and benefits and risks. I read it to my kids, and we all found it so helpful for understanding this complex topic. The pictures, diagrams, and insets complement the main text perfectly. Hilary Margitich is the perfect author for this book, as she has a background in finance AND is skilled at writing for kids. What a gift to find this complex topic presented in a well-researched, un-biased, kid-friendly format.

Kudos to Hilary Margitich for both introducing and clearly explaining Cryptocurrency to Readers of all ages. Knowing both her subject and her Readers, she anticipated her audience’s questions, then answered them in a logical flow, moving from the WHAT and WHY of this newest popular form of money to the HOW, WHEN and WHERE of its usage and application.

Readers gain a totally new vocabulary – servers, block chains, Bit Coin, network, as well as a totally new understanding. Thoughtful Back Matter includes a Glossary, Fast Facts, additional resources and Questions to consider. Well-chosen illustrations and sidebars add to the text’s easy readability. Margitich’s CRYPTOCURRENCY is right on the money!

I'm very impressed with this book. I knew absolutely nothing about cryptocurrency, but now I have a good basic understanding of it. This is due to the very clear and interesting explanations throughout the book, along with a well-chosen diagram and photographs. I like how benefits and possible risks are equally discussed. The back matter is wonderful, too, and includes a glossary, fast facts, and a few questions to get kids thinking about what they have learned. I'm now curious about the rest of "The World of Money" series and won't hesitate to pick up another topic when needed. I recommend Cryptocurrency for all ages.

I homeschool my 3 kids (ages 5, 9, and 13) and all 3 were riveted by this book. What an amazing, contemporary issue, and what a kid-accessible, engaging book and writing to address it! Everyone got something different from the book. My 13yo is fascinated by coding and programming, and those quite a lot. So he was particularly interested to learn about cryptography and some of its history, as well as cryptocurrency. He had so many questions! And so many thoughts on the systems this book describes to ensure security. My younger kids were also enthralled! This was part of a whole unit on money and economy, and I couldn’t find any other book that handles this topic so well! Well done!

Cryptocurrency by Hilary Margitich is an excellent book that introduces young readers to the world of digital currency. The book clearly explains cryptocurrency in terms that are easy for kids (and adults) to understand. I have always been a little confused about cryptography, but this book breaks down the concept into kid-friendly terms, accompanied by vibrant photos and charts. I learned about different types of cryptography, digital wallets, and how assets are transferred. As a teacher, I look forward to adding this book to my classroom library so that my students can learn about this fascinating topic.

What a great idea to help kids (and adults) learn about cryptocurrency. If you’ve ever wondered what, exactly, cryptocurrency is, what Bitcoin is, and who it is for, then read this book. It gives the reader the basic definitions of cryptocurrency while clearly explaining why it was developed, how it helps people, how it works from the back end, and how it works for the consumer.
You’ll find yourself wanting to know lots more about this pertinent topic. Hopefully, the author will write a sequel to delve even further into this strange, but often utilized, tool.

The author, Hilary Margitich, writes in a friendly conversational way and uses simple terms to explain words that relate to cryptocurrency. Important words are highlighted and defined in the glossary in the back matter of the book, along with “Fast Facts” that summarize what cryptocurrency is. Margitich has done an amazing job showing how cryptocurrency works in terms that young readers can understand. If you’re curious and love learning about new ways of investing money, Hilary Margitich’s book is an excellent beginner’s guide that I highly recommend.

Clear, Concise, Informative, and Engaging content for children and adults!

A must-read! Cryptocurrency by Hilary Margitich is the most up-to-date and informative children's book on cryptocurrency in the marketplace today. It provides children with an understanding of cryptocurrency's how, what, and why. The layout engages with photos that back up the text for visual learners. The Glossary, Fast Facts, and One Stride Further make it the perfect addition to any classroom or homeschooler. Bravo to Hilary Margitich for making this complicated subject understandable!

The book Cryptocurrency is an excellent book. This book covers the history and background of crypto, how crypto works, and the benefits and risks of cryptocurrency. There's also a useful glossary in the back that has cryptocurrency related words and definitions. The book also includes a Fun Facts section at the end that gives a great synopsis of the key points of the book. I highly recommend this book for readers that want to learn about digital currency. The author does a great job explaining Cryptocurrency in a clear, understandable manner.

If your kids are curious about Bitcoin and digital money, this book will make everything clear and easy to follow. I honestly didn't know the first thing about cryptocurrency before reading this book, but the glossary is super handy and the pictures and “fast facts” are very engaging. I like that it covers both the good and the bad sides of crypto without making it confusing. It’s written in simple language that works for kids but still taught me quite a bit, too. Highly recommend if your kids are asking about cryptocurrency and you want a solid, straightforward guide.

What a great introduction to cryptocurrency for kids! The author clearly explains all the concepts and moves through the topic in a logical, easy to understand way. The charts and photo illustrations help to clarify key points. There are a few discussion questions at the end, which are great for classrooms, homeschooling, or general family discussion. I never really understood cryptocurrency until I read this book. It will be helpful to other adults as well.

Hi, I want to review this book because I really enjoyed it, both for myself, as well as for my students and anyone who needs an introduction to cryptocurrency!
I loved the format of the book: the history, pictures and graphics, the current information, the nod to the history of cryptocurrency, as well as the stance various governments have on cryptocurrency.
I will also definitely be requesting this for our school and local libraries!!

Kids who love nonfiction books and money will read this book with interest. Cryptocurrency will fascinate many kids with its clear photographs and illustrations that will clarify the text as well as they can refer to the backmatter including a glossary, fast facts, and 'one stride further'. This book is a great introduction to the world of cryptocurrency! I like that there are helpful charts and that the author presents both the pros and cons of using crypto.
