Karl and Sharon Peterson decide they're ready to buy the home they’ve been dreaming of doing. Years of scrimping and saving has finally paid off for them. So what if the place needs a little work? They just don't know everything that will be included in the deal. It doesn’t take them long to find out they have their very own real life haunted house. What will they decide to do? To find out, get yourself a copy today.
Karl and his wife, Sharon, have finally out-grown their two bedroom apartment, and with his recent raise at work and what they have in savings, they decide it is time to start house-hunting. Who wants to pay rent and share a wall with neighbors when you can have the whole place to yourself, a nice porch to relax on, a basement for an office, and a yard for your future children to play in? It was time to move on to what they really wanted, a place they could call their own.
While scanning through online listings, they found a Victorian house at a bargain price, with a porch just like they wanted. Disregard the eerie chill that overcame them both, and the faint shadow of someone looking out the window on the second floor (must have been the lighting), it looked just like what they were after. In person, however, it was evident the home had been vacant for some time, but the possibilities are endless. But, something was just not setting right with Sharon. She didn’t really see a dark shadow move through the room as they were peeking into the front window, did she?
Within 24 hours of finding the realtor’s ad online, scoping the house out in person, and filing for the loan, they house was officially sold. And within a week, they were moving into the Victorian just 4 blocks down the road from their apartment. However, things are not always what they appear to be. After just a few short days of cleaning up the long-settled dust in their new home, things just don’t feel right. Doors that randomly close, dried blood and fingernails behind the plaster, odd reflections in the windows, and whispers in the air. What have they gotten themselves into?
Karl and Sharon could probably ignore the 5 woman ghosts they regularly see upstairs, but what about the secrets the old Victorian holds? And is anyone really safe anymore? Can Karl and Sharon find the truth behind the house before it is too late? If you are looking for a quick, spooky read, then this is definitely the book for you.
The story begins with a married couple, Karl and Sharon Peterson, talking about how they think that it is time for them to get their own place. Karl goes off to look for potential houses that is in their budget, when he comes across an Victorian house not too far from where they currently live. They just wanted their dream house, but what they got was a haunted house.
The author lures the reader into a false sense of security and hope. Everything seems normal at first until the mood of the book shifts, and you know things were about to change. The horror scenes in the book were really thought-out and made the reader feel just as nervous and scared as the characters. One moment your reading, feeling relaxed and knows what's happening, and then suddenly, something creepy and crazy happens, but you keep reading because you need to know what happens next.
A very good and chilling story. I recommend to everyone who likes a good horror book.
Some of my favorite quotes:
“Well, I’ll help protect you from the mice I promise. Scouts honor. Check out that tree babe.”
An indistinct chill ran through them both while they were viewing the image on the screen. Both of them were able to easily ignore the feeling, it was the perfect place.
“Okay, that sounds good honey. I’ve always liked your hamburger steaks. I think that’s part of why I married you."
"An Ill Wind Cometh" by Brian Bigelow is the author's take on the haunted house genre and it works rather well. The reader gets lulled into a false sense of security as Karl and Sharon slowly decide to move, the actually move and make the new home their own. Everything seems fine for a long time, then the cat starts to react oddly and there are great moments of paranoia when neither believes the other about what they have seen happening in the house. During the home improvements Karl uncovers some horrendous surprise and as the status of the house as haunted is obvious now they try to protect themselves, find out the cause and fight it. Bigelow has his own style of language, down to earth and realistic that makes the horror elements of his story stand out and shock you, the way good horror movies are made. It is slowly creeping up on you and then it is all over you. He has given the relationship and the idea of a finding your dream home a lot of space in this novel which explains well why the couple will not simply up and move. It is an old house full of noises and creeks and since I have finished the book I still look over my shoulder if I heard such a noise myself. This is serious horror, gruesome and creepy.
A creepy little book. It was easy to fall into the story and read straight through. The happy couple wanted a bigger place and moved from their little apartment to a big house at a great price. That of course makes you wonder what the story with the house is. Karl and Sharon are in for an eye opening experience. It has just the right amount of creep to keep you on your toes until the end. Very good story, and I would recommend it to horror fans.
Karl and Sharon are tired of being in a cramped apartment. After saving up money thet buy their dream fixer upper. Little did they realize it used to be the house of a serial killer. They are tormented by him and his victims. This is a great paranormal ghost story. However I kept asking myself who buys a house without looking in the basement!? Great read! WaAR
An ill wind stirs on haunted moor, Where secrets sleep and spirits soar. Its breath is cold, its whisper dire, It stokes the heart with creeping fire.
Through candle's flicker, ink runs red, With tales of dread the author’s fed. Each chapter moans, each scene decays, Like twilight trapped in endless haze.
The storm it births is not of rain, But grief, and guilt, and ghostly pain. The prose—a dirge, both sharp and deep— Wakes buried fears we thought did sleep.
Oh cursed is the mind that strays Into these gothic, grim, dark days. Yet blessed the soul that dares to tread Where living ink communes with dead.
So read it not with idle cheer— This book was made to chill and sear. A masterwork of gloom and art, That leaves a shadow on the heart.
