The Deception

Rate this book
Kaitlin will soon find out that falling in love with a man she knows little about may be the last decision she will make.

Shunned by the locals since birth, eighteen-year-old Kaitlin’s life has been anything but simple. When she discovers the rumors that have been swirling around her small, southern town are true, she knows her life will never be the same. Heartbroken and confused, she accepts that her chances of finding love are fleeting. That is until Billy, her only childhood friend, asks her to marry him. The problem is she loves him like a brother and knows that rejecting his offer will seal her fate of being alone. But then she meets her new neighbor… Logan.

When a rogue agent reappears on the grid, Logan has one capture him and see that he’s punished for the crimes he’s committed. The journey leads them to a small town and a stunning, blue-eyed angel… Kaitlin. Unfortunately, a relationship is not in his very specific, and short term itinerary.

Will Kaitlin learn to trust a man she knows very little about and allow herself to be loved? Will Logan be able to keep his mind focused on his potentially deadly mission, keep his brother away from the girl he’s falling for and figure out the missing link? After all, it is a matter of life and death, and it’s all about… time.

Kaitlin has been raised not knowing that she isn’t her parent’s biological daughter, so when they break the news she initially thinks that the rumours going around town are right – that she’s the result of an affair that her father had. But this isn’t the case – Kaitlin’s real parents gave her up to keep her safe from someone, but her adoptive parents don’t know the rest of the story.
Kaitlin’s best friend Billy has asked her to marry him, and won’t take no for an answer. Kaitlin is infatuated with Logan though, a new boy in town who she doesn’t know at all.
Will Kaitlin be forced to marry Billy? Will she marry Logan instead? And who were her parents trying to protect her from?

This book was just not good.

Kaitlin was an okay character, but I think we were all supposed to know that she wasn’t really Kaitlin, she was Katie – a girl that we learned a bit about in the prologue.
The problem was this was just dull. I could honestly read lines and not know what I’d read when I got to the end of the line because it just hadn’t gone in at all.

I also thought there just wasn’t enough information available. The baby in the prologue was obviously in the present sort of time, while Kaitlin must have been at an earlier period in time, because she was being asked to marry a boy just ‘cause no-one else in the village would have her. Not sure how this happened, and it wasn’t explained at all. Was this time travel? Magic? We don’t know.
Then Logan turns up and Kaitlin instantly falls in love with him. Give me a break. And, oh! I’m so bored and annoyed right now that I’m not sure I can even say anything else about this book without wanting to throw my kindle out the window! But let’s just finish this by saying that this isn’t even a whole book! We just get to the bit where Logan is about to explain what’s going on, and the book finishes, and we’re told to buy the next book to find out what happens!
Overall; I AM NOT IMPRESSED AND WILL NOT BE READING ANY MORE OF THESE.

This was a very short little teaser into hopefully a longer story (looking for it now). A win for self published shorts to make you buy the next in a series. Few technical issues that I saw if any my brain auto corrected them. I liked the story, interesting premise. The main character was a little flat but I attributed that to the authors attempt to respect the social boundries of setting. I am very interested to see what happens next as this really was just 117 pages so it just gets into the story.
