The Lasker Brothers #2

My Grumpy Billionaire

Rate this book
"Don't worry. I can't get pregnant."

Famous last words. I said them to a hot one-night stand during my divorce-cation, to reassure him when the condom broke. After all, one of the reasons my marriage ended is that I couldn't get pregnant, and my terrible ex blamed me for it.

And now my doctor says I am pregnant. With triplets.

I just have to find a way to tell the one-night stand he's going to be a dad...

My Grumpy Billionaire is a laugh-out-loud swoonfest including a smoking hot masked hookup, a few silicone toys, and a peopling-averse hero you can’t help but love. It’s a stand-alone romance guaranteed to give you all the feels, along with the grand gestures and happy ending you crave.

I started reading this and immediately I’m thinking “this is so terrible and so very familiar… maybe I’ve read this before?” so I open goodreads and what do you know I read a stand alone of the brother of this male mc… and ofc both characters and storylines are very similar and very bad.

The fact that literally both of these books have over a 4 star average rating Lmao —— as a fairly popular tiktoker who is often offered money for good reviews by authors, I’m convinced this author has to be doing that. There is no way that many people thought these books were a 4/5 star read.

I’m not trying to be rude, I’m just being realistic. The books are cringy and not in a good way. All the characters personalities suck. The storylines are bad. They’re badly written. The smut is bad. There is very little good in each book.

This is an “accidental pregnancy” trope book. No, the synopsis just shows her finding out she’s pregnant and then you have to read 75% of the book of nothing before that actually happens in the book? What was the point. I hate when authors try and paint a book as something it’s not to get more readers.

Oh, and it’s so annoying the author “name drops” the characters cars all the time “let me grab my Tesla” “I parked my Ferrari in front of the building and walked to my office” “I took a left in my Tesla” “I got in my Ferrari and drove home” never in my life have I heard someone say the make of their car so much instead of saying “car”… and my entire life I’ve driven “luxury” cars lol

The characters didn’t share great chemistry and connection, there were unnecessary details, many pages filled with drama, the ending was rushed and the grovel very poor.
All in all, this story was insufficiently developed.

I honestly don't know why I keep letting myself get bamboozled by Tiktok lolol I had literally no idea that this was by the same author of Baby for the Bosshole (again I still hate that title 😭😂) or that these stories connected until I read about Griffins dad. I honestly don't know which book was worse.... nope, this was worse because there's nothing more cringy than musical breaks especially when described in detail in a book lol. Yea, this was a big no for me lol.

I really have to start reading the blurbs and reviews before reading random books and stop depending on small tiktok scenes lol

I was looking for a pregnancy trope. And since it wasn’t a fantasy book, I kinda had my hopes up with booktok. Unfortunately, My Grumpy Billionaire was so bad — at least for me.

It started out… fine. But then, the author decided to throw the logical thinking outside the window, especially the ending. I don’t understand how everyone didn’t care at the fact that Griffin felt violated and embarrassed because his d*ck was basically an inspiration for a dildo that his GF was selling.

I don’t really want to bash this book. So, let’s just say that if you’re looking for a pregnancy trope with a really solid romance, this book is not for you.

Yep, he's grumpy. Both characters are nice and sane, and the romance perks along nicely until they both go completely insane and unlikeable. The author reins them back pretty quickly in for a nice HEA.

no, just no

the first 30% were pure judgmental bullshit from both sides but more from fmc's side (little miss weird relationship with food). I wanted to punch everyone in the face in this book for being so stupid. I know I'm in a weird reading mood, but even if not, this wouldn't get more than 3 stars, not just because the character were annoying.

it seemed the first half was written by a different person honestly. there were so many details that were described often like clothes or appearance from all the people we meet, but suddenly it was so irrelevant what the mc's were wearing. why describe it so much in the first half?

but also, why write the summary, the plot whatever as being about a pair that had a one night stand and fmc ended up being pregnant with triplets after thinking she can't have kids, when that only really enters the chat at 75% into the book? that's not what it is about then. the fact that she is pregnant isn't even relevant to the plot. it didn't really create drama, nothing. listen, I like the pregnancy trope - controversial I know - but that ain't it. this had nothing to do with the pregnancy trope like I had hoped.

Griffin had cute moments, I mean the Tokyo thing had me grinning like crazy. but it also seemed so unlike his character. and even though it was supposed to be a nice gesture and probably unlike him, it just didn't fit him. either I skipped parts - honestly quite likely - or he didn't really do anything like that again to show her his love/attraction/whatever. and don't let me get started on him pulling an Alex Volkov there at the end, I can't.

also, girly, when my ex-husband basically stalks me, physically assault me and tries who knows what else, imma getting a restraining order asap. that shit is crazy and scary. you can be as badass as you want to be - she was imo - but men have done worse for less. especially if - still don't get how that was even a logical thought - a basically stranger moves in with you so your ex doesn't bother you at home again. I would call the police and my lawyer asap, wtf

last but not least the drama and !!SPOILER!! third act break up felt so enforced. I get him being upset because his whole life got turned upside-down. and just because you're open minded and are the CEO of a sex toy company in reality not everyone is that open minded and okay about a product line about them. I mean if you think about it, griffins reaction is understandable because his parents are just not good parents and it shows.

idk why I finished it, but it's not worth it. don't need to read about fatphobic, judgemental people and a falsely advertised plot.

Where to begin? I LOVED My Grumpy Billionaire! Sierra is a beautiful ray of sunshine with a beautiful soul. And Griffin..hmm Griffin I wanted to smack upside the head half of the time and the other half of the time I wanted to pat his head, hug him close and keep him safe in my pocket. The story is so well written with just enough angst to make it interesting, plenty of LOL moments to keep me giggling and so much love my heart melted. Nadia Lee is an incredible author with a magic touch. I've read almost all of her books (and there's a lot of them) and never been disappointed yet. She is 1-click for me everytime.

Sierra & Griffin

Not as good as the first book, but still a fairly good read. I like that she is a CEO of a company and he is a professor. She drives a Ferrari and he drives a Prius.

I went into this with high expectations of this one and to be honest, it fell far flat for me. I am not sure what it is about this author, but there is a certain way in how she writes books sometimes that just turns me off. I wanted to really love this one but it had some strange moments between the couple that was just kinda off putting and just made me want to skim through the book. While there were some entertaining moments in the story, it was far from memorable if I am being honest. And the third act was a struggle to get through. Neither the hero or the heroine handled it well. But I will finish off the series just because I am intrigued by the other brothers and their matches. Hopefully it will be a better experience though.

I’m just bored. The concept was amazing, but it takes forever to grab my attention. I have been skimming over pages. I haven’t even taken the time to fully read them. It just seems filled with lots of unnecessary words to fill in the time gaps.

To be fair, the title and cover of this don’t mention anything about secret babies or the like HOWEVER the marketing and ads for this do that for it. The ad I came across gave a snippet and implied this was a ONS secret baby book.

The beginning of this book calls itself chapter one but it’s lying to you. It’s a prologue even if it tries to pretend it’s not. The h is at her OBGYN’s office and has just discovered that despite her fertility woes of the past she is, in fact, pregnant with triplets.

Then the book goes back 10weeks and 3 days to the day of conception and is told chronologically from that point onward.

She’s newly divorced from her pompous ass ex husband. She’s the ceo of a sex toy company. She goes to a masquerade where she meets the future baby daddy. We are led to believe they proceed to have an epic one night stand in which both remain masked. Even falling asleep in said masks. I call bullshit but ok.

From there a series of fortunate circumstances bring them together not once but twice. The ex continues to pop up and remind everyone why she dumped him. They start “fake dating” which turns into real dating. Somewhere along the way they realize they met and banged at the masquerade. Then just passed 70% we catch up to the prologue that pretended to be chapter one.

He’s one of most unpleasant grumps I’ve encountered. She’s a fairly tolerable sunshine. He eventually makes a complete mess of things and proceeds to act like the worlds biggest manchild. Of course, there’s no grovel. He gets schooled by everyone he talks to. Then he makes one of the most underwhelming, pathetic grand gestures I’ve ever read. Alas, all is forgiven despite the h telling us just a couple chapters earlier he tore her heart into shreds. He sang in public after all, that definitely makes up for his casual cruelty.

Medium burn, they bang around 60%, excluding the baby making sex from the very beginning

Push away from H
No OW drama
Some OM drama
No cheating
Several weeks of separation after predictable 3rd act breakup
No cliffhanger
HEA

Safety - I’d call this safe. H is never interest in any OW though his dad’s assistant has him accosted by a hooker at one point. H escapes and is indignant and angry about it.

I actually loved the OM drama here. The h is so over him. He keeps popping up and making an ass of himself. He never poses a real threat to their relationship. H does that shit all by himself 🙄.

She doesn't get pregnant until 73% of the story .... Why have that as your plot point in the synopsis. Why add it in at all. There is zero point to it. you make a point to add it in the synopsis and also make it the prologue then I expect it to be one of the main premise of the story..... Not just something you decided to throw in at the end.

Really pisses me off when you an author does this. You read a synopsis and read the first chapter offered on Amazon and you purchase it based on those things because it is a arc that you enjoy reading. And then it ends up to be anything but. So 1 star because you made me waste my money.

DNF at 3% for an incredibly unlikable heroine and author who would put such blatant fat phobia right up front in her book. Having the heroine think the following as if it’s a reason to disrespect her husband… nope. Not for me. It’s gross how these fat phobic thoughts are expressed by this author and main female character.

“My ex would look presentable if he lost the twenty-five pounds of blubber he started gaining the moment our wedding vows were exchanged, all of which went to his waist. He looks like he’s wearing a saggy, partially inflated swimming tube underneath his blue and yellow Rams T-shirt…”

This would have been a four-star read, at least until the third act breakup, which made me lose a lot of respect for Griffin's maturity. As a result it got knocked down a star.

Sierra is the sweet, sunshiney owner of a sex toy company, and is emotionally recovering from a recent divorce, and her ex will not leave her alone. (Aside: I was honestly confused about what his motivations were by the end of it. At first we're lead to believe he wants her back because she helped him get prestige at the college he teaches at, but at the end, he could have simply asked her to put in a good word for him with the school in exchange for leaving her alone, but instead starts talking about how he can't work on their relationship from another city. Was it money? He seemed very focused on her though which made no sense since it was clear he didn't even like her.)

She goes to a masked party and has a one-night stand with a stranger she terms the "Midnight God" because the smexy times are just that good. So she and Griffin have no idea they've already boned the next time they "meet" -- which is at his dad's birthday party. This brings me to another problem I had with the book. Sierra knows who Ted Lasker is or she wouldn't have been invited. She knows Griffin's last name is Lasker and eventually learns that he was also at the party with his mother (I was entirely unclear how she didn't immediately recognize him from that when they "met" for the third time). How does she not make the connection of who his father is sooner?

The two meet for real when his class his tasked with reviewing her company for an econometrics project. This leads eventually to him offering to pretend to date Sierra to keep her ex away. Which leads to more smexy times. Griffin is grumpy and Sierra is sunshiney but she doesn't know he's a billionaire until the veeerrry end of the book (so the title of this book was a bit weird). They eventually figure out how they met for the first and second times and Sierra is convinced it's fate.

The book lost a star when Griffin turned into a man-baby in the third act because, I shit you not, he's worried about people's opinions after him being the inspiration for a sex toy line and his parents' infamous identities come out in the press. It would make sense if his department head had an issue, but they don't. He's honestly just worried about people not respecting him and is willing to dump a woman he knows is pregnant with his triplets because of it.

Make it make sense. I get wanting respect, but to automatically assume you've lost it in spite of winning several prestigious awards in your field because people found out that your parents are famous and you're so good in bed you inspired a sex toy line, seemed very childish. And since part of Sierra's issues with her first husband revolved around him being embarrassed by the business that gave him his lavish lifestyle, I would have thought she'd have more of an ax to grind with him over Griffin also being embarrassed by her. I was glad she finally came to the realization she did about her father and step-family, but it really should have extended to her having the self worth to realize she didn't need another guy who was going to be humiliated by being associated with sex toys.

Until that point though, I was having a lot of fun with the book, to the point where I had bought the audio because I wanted to keep reading, even when I couldn't sit and read. The ending did feel sort of arbitrary though. Still, I was glad it involved singing.

Sierra Fullilove is the beautiful and successful CEO of Silicone Dreams, and she has her life planned out. Now that she’s finally free of Todd, her ex husband, she can finally move on with her life. Unfortunately for Sierra, Todd doesn’t want to get with the program, and he continue to harass her for second chances, even going so far as to follow her to New Orleans. By a stroke of luck, Sierra is saved from Todd’s unwanted advances by a mysterious and attractive man she knows only as “the Midnight God.” Although they had an amazing night together, Sierra doesn’t plan on seeing him again. But when she finds out she’s pregnant with triplets, her world changes yet again.

Griffin Lasker is a college econometrics professor who’s barely hanging on by a thread. Constantly caught between the drama of his famous model mother and famous producer father, Griffin dreams of living a simple life he’s created on his own terms. So when he unexpectedly gets caught up in the beautiful and fiery Sierra Fullilove’s drama, he knows he should step aside. But something about Sierra draws him in, and once he learns that she’s being harassed by her ex husband (who just happens to be a colleague of his) he knows he can’t step aside. He agrees to fake date Sierra in order to protect her from Todd’s unwanted advances, but he never expected to actually fall for her in the process.

Oh. My. Gosh. “My Grumpy Billionaire” by Nadia Lee was absolute perfection from start to finish. It was the funny, lighthearted palette cleanser I didn’t even know I needed! Griffin and Sierra’s love story was chaotic, most definitely, but it was also full of light, laughter, and most importantly, love. My favorite part of this book is that neither Griffin nor Sierra was actually looking for love or a serious relationship when they happened to meet, but once they met, the sparks couldn’t be ignored. There was so many amazing “laugh out loud” moments included in this novel as well.

Sierra. She’s beautiful, intelligent, and fashionable, and I love that despite the fact that she has a lot going for her, she never lets it go to her head. Sierra is sweet, kind, and a little naive, and I love that despite the horrid way she grew up, she managed to stay that way without becoming even the slightest bit bitter. Griffin. He’s had a hard life, even though he has two famous parents. Maybe because he has two famous parents. All Griffin has ever wanted was to be admired and respected for his own accomplishments, without being judged for his parents’ actions or having to stand in their shadow. Yes, he makes mistakes, but I truly believe that he’s a good man and that his heart is in the right place. All in all, I completely recommend!

Thank you so much Social Butterfly PR and Nadia Lee for this ARC!

My Grumpy Billionaire is a new romantic comedy from Nadia Lee and while it can be read as a standalone, it is about Emmett’s brother from Baby for the Bosshole and it was so great to see all the Lasker brothers again!

Sierra is a CEO of a company that produces sex toys and Griffin is a college professor and son of a famous movie producer and a supermodel. They first meet on a masquerade ball where Griffin saves Sierra from her stupid ex husband and their chemistry is so off the charts they have a one night stand. When they meet again a few weeks later they have no idea who each other is and let’s say this time it’s not a love at first sight. But when Griffin offers to pretend to be Sierra’s fake boyfriend and move in with her to protect her from her ex it doesn’t take long for them to give in to their attraction. But when their secrets come to light will these two be able to have their happy ending?

I really enjoyed this grumpy/sunshine romantic comedy, Griffin and Sierra were so perfect for each other I loved their every scene together. I really liked the crazy Lasker family from Baby for the Bosshole and was so happy to find out this book is about Griffin, I hope each brother will eventually get his own book. And when I say they are crazy I mean it, I was laughing so many times at their antics, Ted and Joey were absolutely hilarious. The side characters were also great, I would love to have Ellie as a friend and all Sierra’s coworkers were fantastic. But my favorite part was definitely the romance, I just loved Griffin and Sierra and hope we will get to see more of them in the next Nadia’s books. Already can’t wait for what she writes next!

Grumpiest Lasker Brother
Enter Professor of economics - Griffin Lasker. One of the sons of the epic vasectomy fail parent, Ted Lasker. Griffin is moody, crabby and carries a chip on his shoulder, larger than a baobab tree. Join him with Sierra Fullilove, CEO of a sex toy company who is all sunshine, oozes self confidence and has a pain in the rear end ex-husband.
Of course, Griffin’s and Sierra’s meeting is explosive and productive – which starts a relationship marred by the need of said Professor to keep the respect of his colleagues and not be the person his father was. It does not succeed and makes him “uptight and judgemental’. Such is the impact of their meeting, that Sierra starts a new line of toys in memory of ‘that’ night.
Whilst both are on opposite ends of the spectrum in character, they also share the same background of ‘could be better parents.’ Fortunately, it is this that cements them together. It is also quite refreshing to read about instances that reflect reality.
Unexpected humour is dotted all through the book with a level 10 on the hotometer There is the swooniest rock band episode you could ever want! I really enjoyed this book.
My favourite parts of the book were when I had to look up words I have never come across; iambic pentameter; anapestic tetrameter; Gah! Ms Lee you had me there with the love of words!
This is another five-star winner and makes me a firm fan of the Lasker Brothers. It is spectacularly written in true Nadia Lee style and Griffin and Sierra might be my favourite [so far. I’m fickle!] I can’t wait to read the next one.

I found this by a reel on Instagram and was hooked by the blurb. Loved it. Cute, sunshine x grumpy and fake dating trope, hot smut, both billionaires, secrets, family drama, miracle babies, angst, apologies, serenading, love. Griffin was a totally hot, grumpy, brooding professor and Sierra was bubbly, sweet, sassy, has a sex toys company. They are perfect for each other.

Griffin was definitely grumpy and had some baggage that he needed to work through. I loved getting glimpses of his brothers and didn't initially recognize that this book takes place simultaneously with Baby for the Bosshole, but there are clues that it does. It is a standalone, but is definitely enjoyed by reading the other book too. Having worked in OB/GYN there are one or two aspects of this story that I found a little unbelievable, but they didn't take away from my enjoyment of the book. It was a fun story and I recommend reading it.

My Grumpy Billionaire by Nadia Lee is the story of Griffin Lasker and Sierra Fullilove.
Sierra happens to hood up with Griffin when he helps her at a masquerade ball. But they find that they are so different but yet their feelings are so much more than they can keep away. Enjoyed this book.

DNF. I got 4% in and quit because I do not like the writing. It’s like she’s trying so hard to be funny, but it’s awkward and tacky.

“Our head of accounting, Barbara, is in her cubicle, though. She limits junk food because everyone on her mother’s side keeled over from heart attacks before they hit fifty.”

First off, why is this tidbit even needed? Secondly, this chick has some seriously screwed up thoughts if she’s thinking of human beings this way. Thirdly, wtf?

Second chapter in, the h is basically described as a vain, rich CEO. Idk, I guess I just don’t like the character? But I’ve read another book from this author and it fell kinda flat too. But I can’t imagine spending 6 or so hours on a character that doesn’t seem to care about other human beings enough to refrain from referring to death in such a way. Especially someone that is a CEO of a sex toy company.

These two were hilarious. The one night together from hot, romantic and so out of character for Griffin. The relationship these two have is more of a hate/lust in the beginning and so entertaining. Todd is such a jerk of all jerks and I can’t believe she was ever with him. I absolutely loved the stubbornness. A fun, enjoyable read.
I recommend this book. Told in dual POV.
