What Winds Assail Us

Rate this book
Married starfighter pilots Byron and Merana Tam have had their brains transplanted into lab-grown transhuman bodies. Included in the suite of new organs and glands in their enhanced forms is a special organ that allows them to mentally connect to the technology of the Gava Collective—an alien race formerly defeated and exterminated by humanity. This technology is a series of interconnected and changeable polyhedrons that can emit energy for propulsion or weaponry. They can assume almost any shape, thereby creating nearly infinite options for someone with enough imagination and willpower.

Their rebirth is during a time of tribulation: the Earth has been destroyed by a hostile alien force. Forced to use their new bodies and abilities for war, they have no choice but to master them quickly. The technology of the Gavi must be harnessed to create the most deadly starfighters the galaxy has ever seen. Yet such a connection comes at a cost unforeseen by them all.

Joining the remnants of the human fleets, they confront the main alien armada only to discover that the war might not be what it seems to be and that the true enemy could be someone or something else entirely.

Recieved this book with a Goodreads Giveaway. This book sucked me in from the beginning and it moved along at a good pace. Not a huge fan of the ending, but that's me, I like tidy closings. It was a true science fiction book and reminded me of stories I grew up reading. Would recommend it to any fan.

I received this book from a good reads giveaway, and the author signed it, which I thought was a great touch.

My key takeaways, definitely a hard science sci fi, which I really enjoyed. There are aspects of conspiracies, covert government programs, aliens, rouge ship minds and more! I really enjoyed the character of Victoria and wish there was more of her, because the demented nature of her mind made the book have an element of horror.

The story is original, the author does a great job at world building, character building, and story telling.

I really enjoyed this book. I am, however, REALLY struggling with the ending as it is abrupt. And absolutely not what I had expected. The story of love and growth and overcoming obstacles and selfishness and secrets. It all works out so well. I recommend this book if you enjoy sci-fi, military, love stories (absolutely no smut - just good old fashioned love).

Enjoyed this Kindle edition of good ole science fiction with the enhanced bodies, mad science, alien civilizations, cool ships, etc., and the thoughtful additions of love, ethics, mores and political scheming. Drew me right in and kept me reading.

Pretty solid Syfy book to get the same feelings of wonder and adventure from similar books back in the day. Characters and plot were interesting. Not something I would read again, but a book that I was happy to read.

An enjoyable creative romp. Nice character development, exciting battle scenes.
The Brain switch was a bit too "Young Frankenstein" for me but all in all good Sci-Fi.
Congrats on the first book!
