Jae is the author of twenty-six award-winning romances between women. She lives in the sunniest city of Germany, near the French and Swiss borders. The writing bug bit her at the age of eleven.
She used to work as a psychologist but gave up her day job in 2013 to become a full-time writer and a part-time editor. As far as she’s concerned, it’s the best job in the world.
When she’s not writing, she is an avid reader of sapphic books, indulges her ice cream and office supply addictions, and watches way too many crime shows.
I didn't know what to expect with this short. I was flabbergasted. Giving the title I, did the same thing than the Heroine, let my stereotype be shattered.
With a title like that, one can think it will be full of drama or "copulation", but NENI. TMA is a beautiful story of woman solidarity and hope for love.
I stay with my believe, you can't expect much from a short story. It's not fair to a writer. It's a short story, there's no time for build up, you get time jumps. Short stories are a read for between breaks, not a way to spent the evening.
So, for a short story is was fun. You got your creepy lesbian, the butch, and the 'feminine' (I'm not sure she was feminine, can't remember that I read it in so many words). What I liked most was that there was no rush between them. You read that alot with short stories. They meet and BAM they slept togheter.
You read about two woman who had a connection even though they normaly would'nt fall for one another. So a typical love story, in short. Just what I was looking for, LIKE.
Seems like this is either an excerpt from or precursor to Departure From The Script, which I feel like contextualizes it a little more and is the reason I’ll go 4 stars instead of 3. As a stand alone though I found it a little boring, it’s probably 60% Amanda lamenting how she’s not usually attracted to butch women, which kinda rubbed me the wrong way. I feel like the short story format doesn’t quite give this type of writing room to breathe, you can tell it’s working up to be a good story but doesn’t have the chance to get past the more tedious exposition.
Oh, this is a huge tease but a well written one. This Valentines Day short is really a cute pre equal to Jae's Going Off Script.
It is really charming with all sorts of funny touches that will make you want to go out and get Michelle's and Amanda's love story of when you find not your type.
This was pretty amazing, and the story wasn't really finished either! I so wanted to see where the relationship went, and was immediately connected to both of the main characters! It was a quick read, and very entertaining! I highly recommend!
Anyone who has been out for a night on the booze and woken up in an unfamiliar environment and huge blanks from the night before will find themselves able to relate to Amanda's predicament.
I thought Michelle was great and Amanda was lucky the woman had her back when her faculties had abandoned her.
Sometimes a bad experience can lead to a serendipitous one.
A women goes on a lousy blind date on Valentines Day, ends up at a fuck Valentines Day party and drinks too much. What could possibly go wrong with this scenario?
I enjoyed this book, it’s a short read and you’ll love it.
Cute short story that is the lead-in for Jae's Departure from the Script.
I am not much of a drinker myself and I have never been blindly drunk so I can't identify with how this story starts. But the characters seem cute and although the short story ended much too soon you see that there is something there. I will be adding Departure from the Script to my TBR thanks to this short story.
My prejudice plays in to reading this "book." I ordered it because it was free and I had heard the author was pretty good. It was fine, for what it was. Glad I didn't pay for it. Amazon seems overcrowded with these vignettes that apparently appeal to many. Not to me. Even the erotic ones are a waste. Why can't this site be populated with real novels and separate out the vignettes and call them what they are? That way those who like these quickie can order them to their hearts content and those of us who want novels won't have to sift through the carp.
It's not awful but it's not really the cute tropey story I thought it would be either. The main character was just kind of a jerk? Making all kinds of assumptions about the love interest because she was butch and generally just acting sort of like being butch or androgynous was a bad thing. Idk, she got better towards the end but I still thought she wasn't very nice-and it was hard to see why the love interest would still be attracted to her after the rude way she acted.
The story was intriguing but felt incomplete. I understand that it is short story but I have read many and have never felt like I was missing the last few chapters.
This is a very fun and enjoyable read. I can’t find anything bad to say about this book because I enjoyed every aspect of what I read considering how short it was. The only reason I’m not giving it five stars is because I wish it was longer or at least made to be around 100 pages where we get some action as well as maybe a short epilogue into the future, maybe next Valentine’s Day.
I am actually really surprised and pleased at the same time, with the breaking down of standards in lesbian communities, showing that you shouldn’t judge on stereotypes, especially when it comes to people and who they are and as well as who they love (including types).
Woooow that blind date was bad and awkward. I wanted to bail for her. But I guess if Amanda didn't have the date from hell, then she wouldn't have wound up at the anti-Valentine's Day party and well... yeah read to find out. Loved the "Let's just call it... rehearsal." line. Great one liner. I realized as I started reading this one, that I had already read it previously at some point, but I still adored it all over again.
4 stars. This is yet another prequel novella to Departure From the Script. It's different from The No Romance Rule and man I forgot how unlikable Amanda can be. OMG. Michelle is still so dreamy though. Love her. This was fun. TNRR is better than this one but I'm glad that I read it anyway.
There was nothing of a sexual nature in this book. A lesbian on a date - hates her date and heads to a Anti-Valentine's Day bash where she gets drunk and is taken home by a woman she meets. Nothing happens! Boring!
I loved this book. It made me laugh. I loved it when Amanda thought she when home with a guy and it ended up being a woman and how embarrassing it was for her. But in the end it turned out great.
A VERY quick read. I probably would have liked it more if the main character didn't offer up a stereotypical nickname for who she was with. I dont know what it was, descriptive as it is, just didn't sit with me. Cute story though. Almost wanted a sequel...
I read the book prior to reading this short story. I guess I thought I would be reading something new, however, this was just an excerpt not really a short story. I agree with a fellow reader that if you have read the book, this does end abruptly. Don't bother, just read the whole book.
