This saga started when Marcus Flavius – a Centurion on special assignment for Emperor Hadrian, was dispatched to the mountains in the east with his men to seek out a mythical promise of the secrets of eternal life and miraculous healing.
Despite falling in love with Shalama, the High Priestess of the Goddess of life in the wondrous valley among the mountains, he turned his back on her offer to remain in the valley. She gave him an elixir that would aid healing with the strict instructions not to use more than two drops per dose. After being mortally wounded by attacking bandits, his second in command gave Marcus the entire bottle and with it sentenced him to an eternal curse – every fifteen years he regressed to age 20 and changed gender.
The time is just after the Second World War as we pick up Marcus’ tale. Marcus meets Brigadier William Knox and they form a firm friendship. Recently becoming a widower, William decided to join Marcus to venture across the globe in search of the valley and a means of ending the curse. William has an ulterior he seeks to rid himself of the curse he was born with.
On the journey, Marcus tells William of several more episodes or incarnations he had experienced – from the Spanish Armada as a Spanish sailor, to the American Civil War as the wife of a military surgeon for the Confederate army, and many others.
Finally, they reach the mountains, but will they find the answers they both seek?

Some of her work, relating to transgender issues, may be familiar to those who feel that perhaps life would have been easier had they been born with a body and mind of the same gender. She is in the process of publishing all other work under the same name.
Tanya is now settled in the southern half of the United Kingdom (sometimes known as England). Born and educated in Scotland, and having experienced well over a half-century of life, in a myriad of guises, mostly involved keeping the realm safe and secure from enemies, both domestic and foreign, Tanya has a more sedate life now, concentrating on grandchildren, dogs, travel and writing.
It was wonderful catching up with old friends. I can’t believe the level of research that you must go through to write your stories, it adds so much to the realism and makes me feel like I am there. I love this book and the whole series. Definitely start at the beginning to get the whole story! Wonderful
Excelent as all her previous books. I admire all Research done to write this series. It is true, that history write the victors and the reality possible was diferent than in the History books. For me, the real reality is writen by Tnya Allan ;-) .
