Things in life are never for certain, but one thing that will always be a constant is the love between star-crossed Couture and Khari.
Couture Yates has always followed life's rules by the book, never once rebelling until she met Khari Compton. The handsome but tortured young boy who immediately stole her heart, only to misuse and abuse it time and time again. Nothing or no one could ever pry her from his grasp, not even his own mother, until tragedy struck, changing the course of her and Khari's lives as they knew it. With such devastation looming over their once troubled but hopeful relationship, Couture often struggles to move past it no matter how much she tries. And when she learns that Khari still believes in the life they both once dreamed of, she realizes he may have been the man for her at one point in time but not so much anymore.
Khari Compton, the once reckless, hot-headed, ladies boy is now a successful, rich, famous, and handsome grown man. Though years have gone by and the women beckoning for his attention have multiplied, his heart still belongs to his teenage love, Couture. Only now, he has tunnel vision so solid, that any woman attempting to penetrate it is simply wasting their time; which he has no problem verbalizing to them himself. So it's no surprise that when Couture hits the ground running, he is all too willing to catch her and all too willing to prove to her once and for all there is no one better for them than each other.
But with fiancés, fake and real, in the mix, along with jealousy, powerful adversaries, and longtime critics of their relationship, the two find themselves on a difficult road to rekindle.
In this story of second-chance love, secrets, and redemption, you will witness how a teenage love so intense and so concentrated can stand the test of time, battles, and some formidable forces.
*This is a standalone novel, however it is a follow up to The Marriage Favor.
Khari was a menace in book one and in no way was I interested in his story in book two. Well that is until I started reading it. In the first installment of this “standalone” series Khari was young, dumb and filling everybody and I do mean everybody up with cum. His longtime girlfriend and sweetheart of a girl Couture, really went through the fire with him. After tragedy strikes the young couple, Khari finally puts his big boy pants on and treats the love of his life the way she deserves. But the damage is done, Couture is unsure and second guessing herself and Khari’s decision to remain with her. Even though Khari has proven himself changed over a seven year timeframe, she decides to leave so that he can have the life that she thinks he deserves.
Insert Leland, that scheming, whiny punk a$$ simp from college that’s been hanging in the cut and in your ear quoting Joe lyrics on how he’ll do “All the things your man won’t do.” He’s easy and comfortable. You will never love him, so he could never break your heart. But then Khari has never stopped loving you and seeks you out when you return to LA. He’s applying all the pressure and doesn’t give a flying fauk about your “fiancé.” So now you’re sitting in a dark room taking a bottle of cheap grocery store wine to head while singing Lenny Williams…. Lol, wait…. I’m lying. I got sidetracked. So now you’re busting it wide open for your ex and singing 2 Live Crew’s pop that🐱without a care in the world. Well except that your fiancé and his family are very prominent and well connected lawyers and Judges whose reach is expansive. You know that once they find out you’re out here playing in their son’s face that it’s over for your career and possibly Khari’s too.
I’ve said a mouthful so let me wrap this up. The only thing more entertaining than this mess filled second chance romance is Marley and Kèa. When I say these chics were on the spectrum. Honey I have never seen two female characters as slow-witted, empty-headed, simpleminded, lame-brained, and obtuse as these two. However the 2023 BirdBrained award🥇for the most thick-skulled female character ever in the history of baby mamas goes to Marley.
In the first book, I wanted to snatch Khari up but he redeemed himself in this book. He was grown up, a superstar, and all he wanted was his Couture. I don’t blame Couture for her hesitation when it came to her running from Khari. Remember he took her down through there in the first book.
Kea and Marley were really just…thorns in my side. They gave me a headache. How many ways can a man tell you he doesn’t want you before you get it? My goodness.
Anyway, this book focuses on Khari and Couture’s journey back to one another but y’all know Shvonne had to add the twists, turns, and drama.
Lequay’s story is up next and I’m already excited for it.
Wait for you was a fitting title for this book, because Khari and Couture had promised their hearts to each other and no matter what bs each one of them was on their hearts were waiting for one another. Cue Monica's "I will cross the ocean for you, I will go and bring you the moon, I will be your hero your strength, anything you need." That really sums up the love that Khari had for Couture, even though she failed to realize it.
Khari really redeemed himself in this book and tbh I didn't think it was possible. He literally tap danced on my last nerve in "Marriage Favor," all that mess he was doing, I felt like Couture needed to exit stage left fast. However, he was a man about his word when he finally grew up. His career progressed and he was solid for 7 years until Couture's insecurities ripped them apart. Khari found himself spiraling after she left and he was living a life that was so fraudulent that he didn't really see a way out. That is until Couture returned home and he vowed to get that old thing back.
Couture, whew chile she was young and insecure and felt like Khari deserved the life that she felt she couldn't give him. I swear she annoyed me to no end because instead of paying attention to the actions he showed her in the present, she let her insecurities push her away. Ultimately, I just didn't understand her, because ain't no way I'm throwing my man that loves me loud and proud to the wolves. I guess she needed it for her growth. I'm still side eyeing her though because she was wasting everybody's time frfr.
When I say throw him to the wolves...I am referring to dumb and dumber Marley and Kea. These two were vying for the star player when the role was already taken. No matter how many times Khari explained that his one was Couture and neither of them would EVER take her spot they just refused to comprehend. Kea wins the crown for Queen Dummy though because she was a successful business owner, but stooped to the lowest of lows just to find some clout. Like b&tch really? I just have no words for her.
During Couture's hiatus....midlife crisis lol, the bs she was on, she found refuge with Leland. He was such a cornball, I mean literally had 0 swag and they had the driest connection possible and I don't know why she thought she could live with him. The way Khari said play with somebody else !!! I wasn't ready, for the ultimate outcome but I definitely enjoyed Khari expressing his dominance over the cornball throughout the book. Leland and his family deserved all the smoke that came to them.
The storyline with Kea, Marley, and Leland just dragged on for me. I was low key tired of seeing all of them on the page and Khari was definitely tired. However, I get that it was to establish the plot and all that they had to overcome. I appreciated the HEA, but I would have rather had just a little more time with them together. Less time with the dumb heauxs, more time at wedding, and definitely more time with them as a family.
That said I can't read to Lequay's story. The Compton brother's have a come along way and I am intrigued by them all. Also be clear these are not standalones, like at all. You need to read the previous book to have a solid understanding of the characters.
She did it again!!! I’m not sure what I was expecting based on Khari’s character in The Marriage Favor but it was NOT what I read!! Grown man Khari is 🔥🔥🔥. I LOVED LOVED LOVED the growth!! He knew what he wanted and nobody was stopping him.
Now I couldn’t write this review without mentioning Kea, Marley and Leland’s BEGGING, delusional asses. Ive never seen so much begging in my life. Goodness. 😂😂😂
This book is promoted as a standalone but you REALLY need to read The Marriage Favor to appreciate the growth of the characters and understand some things.
I started off not liking Khari in the Marriage Favor, but my boy grew up in his own book. I’m so proud of him and his patience with Couture cuz she was stressing me tf out! I love their love, it’s not perfect but it’s there’s 🥰and I’m still shaking my head at not one but two side pieces that were absolutely delusional 🤣 Crying in the club had me laughing so loud! I’m glad Marley snapped out of it and became an adult about the situation cuz my guy never lied to her. Prime and Khari having a father son relationship made me so happy. I loved everything about this book, but free my boy 🥲.
Khari and Couture played in all of our faces!! Like what?!? lol, I’m not going to hold you this book had so much drama and turns that it was a lot to keep up with. One thing I never questioned was Khari and Couture’s love for each other, BUT what a wild journey. So many delusional characters and just secondhand embarrassment especially Kea and Marley smh! Overall this was a chaotic read and I heard the saga continue in book 3 with Lequay aka mini Prime and I’m excited!
Wait For U was pretty good. Khari and Couture had a bond that only they could explain. I did find myself annoyed that it was taking Couture so long to move on from Leland. There was a few unexpected twists that I didn’t expect, specifically surrounding Leland’s family and his estranged brother. Kea & The BM were too much, as well. All in all, I enjoyed it. On to the next one!
It took me so long to read this one because I could not stand Khari in The Marriage Favor. I’m happy to say those feelings have changed, grown up Khari was my favorite character in this book. I appreciated how he kept it real, like even with Kea and Marley, I never felt like he was leading them on. He was gonna get his Princess back and he was not playing about that.
Couture frustrated me. I understood not wanting to ruin her career but it felt like she was fine sneaking around because she wasn’t making any moves. She finally pulled it together but boy it took a long time to get there. Now Kéa and Marley were so pathetic….OMG. I wanted to shake both of them. Hopefully Marley is able to find love one day. Overall I really enjoyed this one and I’m literally about to start Lequay’s book now!
The writing itself was not bad, I just did not care for the story line or the main characters at all. Even trying to make the Lewis’s the villains did not redeem how horrible the main characters were. Lying, killing, lack of accountability respect and empathy really just sums them up for me! kahri was just a narcissistic a** and couture was just a mess and pulled a whole family into a web of her B.S! As dumb as Marley was she was the only one that had some redeemable qualities and actually displayed some growth at the end.
This book is complete trash I’m sorry. I thought I liked the first one a little but this one is more than trashy. The entire time all this was is a battle between a fake fiancé and a baby mama. Also two people hurting other people hurting everyone around them. This was not a good messy it was trashy and boring. She knew she wasn’t over Kari so idk y she went to be with this nigga that’s always wanted her. She ran because of not being able to give him kids. And all she did was hurt everyone .. lord I don’t even wanna write no more I’m bored even writing this 🤣🤣🤦🏾♀️.
Khari has grown up. In book 1, I hated Khari with his attitude and not caring about anyone but himself until Daddy Prime got him together. Khari and Couture are now grown with Khari a successful rapper and Couture a lawyer. Couture can’t let go of the past so she does what she think is best. Khari was all BDE and made sure Couture knew he wasn’t go no where. I’m glad all the snakes died; not one was spared. I can’t wait for Lequay story.
I had to stop reading just to vent. I feel like if I don't like any of the main characters it's a hard no for me. Because you got to have someone to root for. Conture didn't change at all, her maturity level was nonexistent and she was supposed to a lawyer, hard to believe. She was weak in the first book and still kinda of felt bad for her because she was young. Then in this book all that just went out the window, the heffa just trifling. She played in Lelands face, used him for her career, lied, cheated, and disrespected this man every chance she got. The ballroom scene was the straw that broke the camals back for me. Khari didn't really change much, he still was reckless with his "equipment" with a whole baby mama, and had a potential on the way(that didnt make it). Leland should have dropped Contour and kicked her a$$ to the side. He had a lot going for himself, and was a good man that deserved someone to be good to him. So yeah like I said the ballroom scene was as far I as I could go. Not sure if I ll be reading book three.
very repetitive, no need to state their previous issues in their relationship every time they encounter each other. Other than the characters having careers now I don’t see any growth. Couture became more and more unlikeable with every page. Her reasonings for staying with Leland yet having all these secrets literally made no sense. You’re afraid to leave because you don’t want to risk your career… BUT you weren’t scared to enter the relationship AND accept his proposal knowing you were already married AND didn’t tell this man you couldn’t give him a family… gurl please
From page one Khari redeemed himself for me! & TRUST ME! I was worried lmao! Great story, I could literally feel their love jumping off of the pages! Now let me go cry bc my man got arrested 😭
Khari and Couture kept me stressed out in The Marriage Favor, and continued to do so here. But somehow I was hoping for them to get their act together. Baby I was quoting Tyra Banks “we were all rooting for you!!” (Maybe just me though).
There are a lot of moving pieces that caused issues in their rekindling because of their questionable decision making. Khari is Primes son forreal; cause what is wrong with these men? Nobody knows yet. It’s a mystery in itself!
This is a cautionary tale in some ways. Listen to what people tell you especially when their actions back it up.
These two are very much it’s us against the world. I wouldn’t bat an eye in either of their directions for my safety lmaooo
To all the people who skipped this book because they didn’t like Khari…..you are missing out! In the Marriage Favor, was Khari showing his behind….yes! Did he continuously piss me off….yes! And did he play in Couture’s face umpteen times…..yes!!! But that was YN Khari….this book revealed grown man Khari! His growth and maturity was a breath of fresh air! But don’t get it twisted…he is still reckless. Now, it’s all aimed at making sure he and Couture are together.
This was an immersive reading experience and Tony Isabella’s voice brought Khari to life!
Khari was such a young immature person who only cared about himself. Couture was young smart and deeply in love. Through the years Khari grew up to be a good man (that’s a good man Savannah). He learned from almost losing the best thing that ever happened to him.
This book was a rollercoaster ride of emotions and betrayal. I never wanted a couple to finally and truly to be happy with no outside factors ruining their bond. I truly enjoyed this book.
Although I disliked him before, Khari made a great comeback in this novel. Khari is all grown up now and a successful rapper and our little Couture is an entertainer lawyer. Every person they encountered on their way back together was only an unfortunate occurrence on Couture and Khari's path. As an indication of how similar Prime and Khari are, the stupid ladies like Marley and Kea seemed a little repetitive. They were delusional and sick because that man told them from the jump that none of them compared to Couture.
I really loved this hood romance! From beginning to end, it kept me hooked. Even though I hadn’t read the first book, I was able to jump right in and enjoy the story. There were some moments that made me a bit frustrated, but it definitely brought out all the feels, and I had a great time reading it!
I really liked the book where Khari grew up and matured. It would have been better if Couture had been honest with Leland from the beginning. I feel sorry for Leland and how things went down with his family. Overall, I enjoyed it, and the first book is my favorite so far.
What a huge rollercoaster ride! Couture and Khari got on every last nerve that I have. How do both main characters make you wanna karate chop them. All of their actions in the past caused so much drama in their present lives. They do finally get it together, but at the cost of so much. Alot of secrets come out and some AHH HAA moments. Join them on this crazy train! 😩🤦🏾♀️.
I had Been waiting on Khari and Couture book. It did not disappoint. I don't want to give any spoilers, but everyone got exactly what they deserved. If you look up dumb in the dictionary, I bet there are pictures of Kea and Marley. Very good read.
First I like to say that I tried to read this book three times because I am an extreme mood reader. I feel like the main couple deserved eachother from the beginning. I enjoyed the drama in this book and I feel like I did see the change in Kari in this book. I feel like I saw the change in him because Couture started moving just like him in this book with the cheating on his fiancé. Leland, Kea, and Marley were delusional and didn’t read the room at all. I never read a book where I felt like the couple deserved to be with eachother away from everybody else.
3.75 stars I definitely enjoyed The Marriage Favor more, but Wait for U still brought the drama! The main reason it didn’t hit as hard for me was Couture she really tested my patience with her nonsense for the first half of the book. But I’ve got to give credit where it’s due Khari definitely redeemed himself this time around! And Lisara is still that girl!
