The Object of His Desire

Rate this book
When Trudy goes to her estranged brother's wedding, the last thing she expects is one of those a handsome stranger, their eyes meeting across a crowded room... a tempting, but dangerous stranger. Determined to find out more, she discovers that dark secrets bind him to her brother; she also learns that he's the kind of man who gets what he wants, and what he wants right now is Trudy.

Introducing her to the world of the super-wealthy, he showers her with designer clothes, shoes, and diamonds, whisking her off to dinner dates by private jet... what more could a girl want?

But as she finds out more about him, Trudy begins to wonder if she can ever love a man she can never fully trust. A man involved in murder and blackmail, who may just be using her as an alibi. Should she run or let herself fall for him? And will he give her a choice?

A passionate erotic romance, where scandals buried away in the past lead to murderous intrigue in the present, in the intensely steamy world of the super-wealthy and powerful.

LOVED the story, but the writing and dialogue delivery was such rubbish.

First of all, 90% of the book was an inner monologue.
Secondly, so much was left unanswered and a few scenes were totally WHATTHEFUCK types.

I am still giving this book 3 stars despite it sucking; only for the story.

A wedding reunites three college friends, renewing old animosities and revealing best-kept secrets. Trudy thought she knew her brother's friends. One a secretive government agent, but for good or bad; the other: a carefree lover or kidnapper? And as for her brother, did she ever really know him. She dated one, and was being pursued by the other. Lots of mystery and hard, rough sex as the passions fly in the face of stuffy aristocracy.
My only complaint was all the repetition. Then I found that the book was originally published in serialized format. As such, if I had read it that way, I wouldn't have been bothered. But as a completed novel, I either needed clearer "intermission" breaks or wish it had been polished up a bit here.
The novel storyline and characters were cleverly drawn and kept me guessing until the big reveal at the end. Trudy is wonderfully cheeky, throwing in Americanisms and British idioms. The Cabal (and the House of Lords) will definitely stay on its toes now that she is here to stay.

Hot with a mystery to solve. You will not know who to believe anymore nor predict the end. I like!

At first, I was furious with the heroine. OK, she was "in need" of sex but what the heck? With her ex while the book cover hinted at a steamy relationship with another hot and dangerous dude ???? And more than once? I was disappointed. Was she weak and shallow? Hopefully not?

But I was wrong. The story turned from hot to steamy hot and intriguing and the author played us well. I would never have predicted the end! PJ Adams throws crumbles and hints of truth or half truth, misleading the reader and keeps the story more and more captivating.

Who is really Will? What did really happened to Sally?

The characters are strong. Trudy is a determined young woman on a mission: uncovering the mysteries surrounding Will. Will has many facets: charming, shy, dominating, mysterious, protective and I could go on and on. The rythme is fast, the story is interesting and well written.

So a 4,2 stars!

I was browsing on goodreads when I came across this book with its appealing cover and interesting synopsis and while I was thinking, if I should give this one a try, I saw a thread that the author was looking for reviewers...Lucky me!
This is how I received a copy in exchange for an honest review!
The story/ ingredients:
Trudy, a 27 year old American living in London attends her brothers wedding, who also emigrated from the US years ago. There she meets her ex-boyfriend Charlie and a mysterious handsome man, to whom she feels instantly attracted. It turns out this man, Will Bentinck-Stanley, is the brother of her sister-in-law.
Add to this mix a former girlfriend of all three men found dead and the question: Who dunnit?
This could have easily been a 5-star-read...tension, mystery, steamy hot sex and all...

So why 3 stars? But solid 3, mind you!
As my former reviewers pointed out, Trudy keeps repeating everything that is happening over and over again...to the point that I thought she must suffer of anterograde amnesia/ short-term memory loss, which is not funny at all, especially when the reader has no such disease!
I was waiting for the moment, when she would start writing down every event on post-it notes like
Guy Pearce in Christopher Nolan´s Memento did...and then found out that the book was originally published in a serialized format.
Why, oh why, dear author did you not polish this???
It was so distracting!!!

If I based my rating on the amount of times the author "refreshed my memory", I would give this book a 2. The beginning of nearly every chapter had a brief recap of what I just read in the previous chapter. There were even a few times where the author reminded the reader who's who in the book. There's not that many characters. Unnecessary waste of time, just to make the book longer? Who knows, but it was annoying.

And it's labeled as an erotic suspense novel, but the suspense is so underdeveloped to the point of being a waste of time too.

The love scenes are what made me give the book 3 stars. Those scenes were some of the best I've read in a long time.

I was given a copy if this book in exchange for an honest/fair review.

Hot little number with twists and turns that could give you whiplash.
The author does a fantastic job carefully leading you along then WHAM she throws your ass off the cliff. Just as you climb back up she offers her hand to help you up, once you've righted yourself she shoves you off again-BITCH(I say that with the upmost respect & respectful tone).
I couldn't put this down. Trudy is strong, self reliant if not for the occasional weakening of the knees but what woman wouldn't in her position(s) ;-)
Will is delish, mysterious, wounded-all things yumaliscious.
Fun fast read, great characters.

I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.
This was a pretty good book.. It kept my attention and I was wondering what happened next with each turn of the page. The only thing I didn't like was that sometime when starting a new chapter, it back and pretty much retold what I had just read and that was kind of annoying. I know that this was multiple books but into one, but to me it seemed I was doing more skimming then reading when that happened. Other than that though I enjoyed the book. Thanks PJ Adams for giving me a chance to read this book.

It was suggested that I read this book and give a review by a friend since it had all the elements in a book that I like. I was hesitant in reading this book after reading the reviews. Surely this book couldn't be that bad so I decided to give it a try. Boy, was I wrong.

First sign should have been how hard it was for me to get into the story. I put it down after the first couple paragraphs. It just wasn't giving me the urge to keep reading but since I said I would read it, I picked it back up and made myself finish reading it.

This book is described as an erotic romance suspense novel. It was erotic at best and that is me being nice. There was lust between the characters but I wouldn't say there was romance. Suspense? Yeah, no. I have read plenty of suspense and thriller novels as well as erotic and romance novels that just grab you within the first few paragraphs and you honestly can't put the book down because you absolutely must know what happens next. This book was seriously lacking in that department. I am not sure what was suppose to be the suspense: the blackmail with no motive, the murder of Sally (the blackmailer), finding out who did it or learning the many personalities of Will.

When I pick up an erotic romance it is because like other hot blooded woman and some men of the world we like the effects it has on us and how it makes us feel as well as what could happen after we are done reading the book. This erotic suspense novel left me feeling like I wasted my time reading it.

What really turned me off was not only the constant recapping of everything that was happening but the constant name dropping of designer brands at the beginning of the book which the author seem to give up on except for describing the stilettos Trudy wore; the phrases "ex-sex, predator eyes, Dunkin Donuts grin (we get it Ethan has a goofy grin and loves Dunkin Donuts), oh my God he is filling me/my God he is filling me (seriously?), there is no us (we also get it, Trudy and Charlie are done), gaming me/being gamed, and James Bond life style"; the constant reminder of who everyone is to who as well as herself ("I am a successful, professional, strong woman" which in the end was changed to "I am a professional, modern woman"); the use of chinos (every time I read that word I instantly read it as chonies but which is apparently another word for pants.

There is one bit where the author changes voice (first person to third person back to first person). I had to stop and re-read that part again just so it would make sense. Also a slight timeline that didn't make sense. And comparing being handcuffed to a bed for one night to the likes of Stockholm Syndrome is just wrong. Stockholm Syndrome happens over time, not one night.

I get the story is based in England. Maybe because of this setting the author felt it necessary to drop the names of Hugh Grant, Jane Austen and James Bond into the story as well. Honestly, nothing of what Will did would have made me think "James Bond/MI5/MI6". Yeah he was secretive but definitely not comparable to James Bond. Also part of me wonders if the author has read "Fifty Shades" because of some of the similarities as soon as I read them popped out as so Fifty Shades/Christian Grey/chauffeur/place.

The ending was rather bland. You find out who killed Sally but are still left without knowing why she was blackmailing the one person that was supposedly helping her in the first place; how did Will know that something was wrong and where to find Trudy and her captor. And seriously using your elbow to shatter a "windscreen" (windshield) would leave someone in serious pain and no way in any condition to be handcuffed with their arms over their head to a bed only a short time later.

What the book ended with was kind of disturbing to say the least. Without giving it away for those that do decide to read this book, a big thing happens that again is kind of unexplainable because you don't see any hint of it during the book and then Trudy and Will go back to what they were doing.

I understand this is a complied version of three books. However, overall this book frustrated me and I wouldn't recommend it. There are better books out there worth reading.

Wanted:
Trudy is on her way to her brother Ethan's wedding. He is marrying into a wealthy family and she has yet to meet his bride to be. When she arrives, her ex Charlie seems to latch on and take her around. He hits on her all throughout the service, but she is drawn to Will. There is something about him that pulls her in. As she is looking at a painting in the upstairs hallway, Will offers to show her some more art. He attempts to kiss her in one of the rooms and she pushes him off and runs away. As pulls up in front of her home, there is a rose and a white card with a W on it. She was told that Will gets what he wants, obviously he knows where she lives, and her wants her...

Pursued:
Trudy still has two men pursuing her, which will she choose? She has told Charlie that there is no 'us' numerous times...but he doesn't want to give up. He is trying to get her to give them another try. Will on the other hand is like a yo-yo with her. Give and take, she just doesn't understand him. But when Charlie takes things to the next level, Will's driver, Maninder steps in to save her.
Will whisks her off to Austria to have dinner and the two really get to know each other. But when she wakes up the next morning and he is gone, she decides she is done. But he left a note...doesn't that count for something?

Cabal:
So, Trudy has started to fall for Will...but is that smart? He is mysterious and dark and damn she can't seem to stay away. The time they spent in the Alps was amazing, but was he just using her? Did he need an alibi? Is he responsible for Sally's death?
Charlie wants to talk to her. He is outside her apartment waiting for her when she gets home. She doesn't want to talk to him, but she listens. Listens to his side of The Cabal, what happened those two weeks with Sally. She is so surprised by what he is saying that she has no response. She just needs to think, she needs time.
Will contacts her and tries to talk but she blows him off. He is waiting outside her apartment to talk when she gets home, but she doesn't make it easy on him. She tells him the things Charlie told her and he is hurt that she believes Charlie. He leaves...
When Hammy calls her and tells her his side of what happened, she starts to realize that she is wrong. Is Will really a monster? Or is he the fixer of the mess? Does he love those he lets into his circle so closely that he takes all the bad?
She calls him. He sends a car. They talk. And...

Her Desires:
Trudy has to figure out what to do about Will. Does she love him? Can she have a relationship with someone who has so much hidden, locked away?
Charlie calls her to tell her that a man broke into her apartment earlier that day and he is outside watching her. She checks it out and then calls Will. He says he will be there shortly. But it isn't fast enough.
Julie, Trudy's friend does some digging around to find out some information on Will and his family. She shares what she found with Trudy and tells her to think about her choices. Is Trudy strong enough to stand up to Will and demand answers? Can he give her what she wants? Or does she end things and walk away? Well, try to walk away...

Received this book for an honest review.

When Trudy goes to the wedding of her brother, Ethan, and his soon to be wife that she has never met, the first person that she speaks with is her ex, Charlie. Charlie stays by Trudy's side through out the wedding and is her rock. The two of them settle into their old couple days and Trudy attempts to talk herself into believing that nothing will happen. After the wedding when every one is walking to the reception Trudy and Charlie decide they can't keep their hands off of each other and end up at the back of the church in a rather HOT, raw, passionate exchange.

Will, brother of the bride and "former" best friend of Charlie and Ethan. When Will steps out of the church to get the people to come inside because the bride is nearly there he locks eyes with Trudy. The cliche moment when two strangers see each other afar and can't take their eyes off one another. Instant attraction and something else that neither one can put a finger on.

Trudy's first impression of Will is not good. His clothes are wrinkled, he hasn't shaved and looks like he has been up all night on a bender. Ethan and Charie both warn Trudy that Will is not to be taken lighty. He always gets what he wants and what he wants right now is Trudy.

Trudy is intrigued by Will. Attracted to him in a way no other man has ever made her feel. Getting to know Will is very difficult. He always seems to be apologizing to her for his mistakes and running out on her. There seems to be many sides to Will and Trudy can't figure out which one is the true Will. He can be dominant, sweet, caring, gentle, stand offish, exuberant, and most of all reserved.

Upon digging further into the life of Will, Trudy discovers things that she is not at all comfortable with. "Accidents" and "murders" tend to happen to people associated with Will's family when the family believes they are warranted.

Will Trudy be able to completely devote herself to a man that can't be honest with her ? Can Will put down his walls to have a normal relationship ?

This book kept me guessing right up to the end. It was one big twist after another that left you wanting more.

My major complaint is that I understand that this was four books combined into one novel. The redundancy is too distracting for me. I understand that in the separate books you had to explain yourself in between the books, but when I was reading them as one, I already knew what had happened and didn't need it told to me repeatedly.

I give it 3.5 stars. I enjoyed the plots, the characters, and the story lines. I just didn't like feeling I was reading the same thing over and over.

Thank you for allowing me to read this book.

Received a ARC for an honest review (my first one)

It all starts when Trudy goes nervously to her brother's wedding which she has not seen for a couple of months and never even met his fiancée Eleonar. To make things more awkward she finds out that her EX-boyfriend Charlie is also her brother's best man.
Standing at the church she meet’s the eyes of a handsome stranger.. a tempting, but dangerous stranger.

In the beginning you have very funny and HOT scenes, concerning Ex-boyfriend Charlie and not to forget the “BIG GIRL PANTIES”, which everybody can visualize now in their mind how the look like :o).
After coming to understand that the handsome stranger is in fact the brother of the bride, the attraction starts. Will has a lot of dark secrets but you don’t get a full perspective of this.

But then I got confused as the story starts having a lot of repeated sentences. And before you know the story ends abruptly, with no real ending. First I thought ok this will mean that there will be a sequel coming! NO because this was already published before in 4 short stories and now put together in 1 book. So why does the author not rewrite the story and change the repeating sentences, get more in detail about Will, Trudy and his strange possessive family?? Does their relationship stand a chance?

I expected more from this story, but I want to thank the author for giving me a chance to review this book.

Trudy goes to her brother's wedding a little unsure of herself. She hasn't seen her brother Ethan in a while and is meeting his soon to be wife for the first time. Trudy sees Will across the room and she is intrigue. Will is a long time friend of Ethan's and also the bride's brother. Will comes from a wealthy family and Trudy thinks him to be full of himself. Will likes her and he has to have her.
Meanwhile, Trudy runs into her ex-boyfriend Charlie also a long time friend of her brother's that she lived with for over a year. Charlie wants Trudy back.
So, Trudy has two handsome men trying to win her heart. Trudy knows she has to let Charlie go it didn't work out the first time, besides she has a insane amount of sexual chemistry with Will. Will redeems himself to Trudy and they get together only to be torn apart by a secret long ago buried.
Murder,Mystery, suspense, and hot sex from the beginning to end. It was a really good read with a great plot. It had me guessing till the end. The only thing I didn't care for was the recaps in the beginning but with that being said I will be checking out more books by P.J. Adams.

Trudy attends her estranged brother's wedding and the last thing she expects is to be drawn to her new sister-in-laws brother, Will. As she spends more time with him, Trudy questions whether or not she will ever be able to trust him. Will they both be able to handle all of the obstacles and personal problems that are thrown their way?

For me this was a very quick read. I enjoyed almost everything about this book including the concept, the characters, and the plot. The only thing that I didn’t like was the repetitiveness. The book tended to recap constantly. The first time it happened I thought that I accidentally turned back in the book by mistake but then I realized I hadn’t. After reading one of the other reviews, I realized that originally this book was broken up into segments. I now understand the reasoning behind the recapping but nevertheless I found it very annoying. Seeing that I loved everything else about the book I would definitely be willing to read another book by P.J. Adams in the future.

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

You definitely have to love what weddings bring about in people. They can bring about the most paradoxical reactions to situations that would otherwise be mundane. The heightened emotions from the wedding at the beginning of this story carry throughout the novel and heighten the events. Adams continues this through her very personal writing style that links you to the main character. She also threw in a few plot twists that definitely made me giggle, and a couple of ‘WTF’ moments.

The characters in this novel are divided into 2 main groups: those that you get to know and those who randomly make appearances in the pages. The second group, although they serve a purpose in the story, the readers never really get to know them. The other group of characters is quite well developed and one gets to know them as individuals.

Even though this story was rather far-flung at times, for the most part I enjoyed my time reading it.

Please note that I received this novel free of charge from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I had a very difficult time reading this book. While the steamy scenes are in fact VERY steamy, the actual story I struggled with. I did not get into the characters and couldn't understand their reactions. Trudy describes Will as wrinkled and basically looking like a slob, but then goes on to say how they want each other so bad and how he tried to get her at the wedding. I didn't see that at all. In fact ,I actually had to go back and reread the description of the book because I was confused about who she really was attracted to and wanted to be with (Charlie? Will?).

The other thing that basically summed up how I felt is the fact that one of the chapters was a review of what had previously happened in the book. If the book has to review to make sure I understand what is happening I find that very disturbing. Obviously, you know I am probably confused at that point if you have to do that.

I really struggled with giving this a 2 or 3, because I did, in fact, finish it. But there were so many plot gaps, inconsistencies, and underdeveloped relationships and stories that I feel kind of disingenuous giving it a full 3. When will goodreads give us the ability to do 1/2 stars??

I wouldn't recommend this unless you really have exhausted all your other options in this adult contemporary romance genre. The suspense plot is promising, but doesn't really pay off. The main love interests (to me at least) are creepy rather than attractive. And I keep wondering why the stupid protagonist involves herself in all this drama when the red flags keep hitting her in the face.

I applaud the attempt, because I think the concept was good, but the execution could have used some better attention to relationships and a plausibility check.

This story is good, very good indeed! So many twists and turns that will leave you not wanting to leave this book!
In the beginning it bored me a little, I must confess, because we go back too many times, saying always the same thing all over... but then the story starts getting exciting, a lot of mystery, the sex scenes very hot, the men very dominant!
I wasn't expecting the murder to be who he was... that shocked the hell out of me!
The relationship between Trudy and Will... I could see from the beginning that it wouldn't be an easy one. Too many mysteries evolved around him, but the chemistry is there and they are HOT together! Shes strong, independent, confident... He's totally alpha, sexy, strong, but I only didn't liked the way he apologized so much...
Then you have Charlie... poor Charlie...
Incredible plot indeed!

At her estranged brothers wedding Trudy is introduced to Will and his family. An old school powerful, rich family. There is something about him that draws her in from that first sight. She finds herself in the middle of a secretive world where Will does who knows what for the government but she can't seem to figure out if its good or bad. As she's tries to understand her confusing relationship Trudy gets drawn into a would she barely understands.
There's also an ex who doesn't want to remain an ex. Who will she end up with, if anyone. Can she ever understand what's really going on.
I enjoyed the mystery and intrigue of this book. My only conflict with it was how certain things were repeated over and over again summarizing the book up until a certain point before returning to the story.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

There were parts of this story that were really good. The characters were likable. There was a steamy love triangle going on for awhile. A bit of mystery and murder.

But then I'd start reading a new chapter and find myself re-reading what just happened pages before. Too many of the chapters began with a rehashing of the prior one. It just was unnecessary and a little strange.

The repeated references to Stockholm Syndrome missed the mark as well. I'm not sure how being handcuffed to a bed for an evening could somehow lead to Stockholm Syndrome and it almost makes light of something that's actually quite series. Between that and the almost rape at the end, the author just lost me.

This book had great potential but ultimately I, personally, was unable to really connect with the characters. There was a lot of recap that constantly retold what was already written and explained characters over and over repeatedly. I had a hard time liking Will as much as I wanted to and the declarations of feelings really took me off guard. Unfortunately, it just wasn't my thing. I don't doubt that other readers may enjoy it - it has received many four and five star reviews.

The first scene in the book had me feeling bad for Trudy yet there was still a hot juicy & kind of funny sex scene. It was a roller of a rider as Trudy tries to figure out Will then throw in an Ex that won't take no for an answer. I didn't like how Trudy had to "Recap" what had just happened a few times throughout the book (I just read it I don't need to be told it again). Lots of hot juicy sex throughout. Lots of mystery and drama. The last scene in the book I wasn't thrilled with- it was a major event then to continue on with what they were doing seemed a big wrong.
Ok ending.

I really struggled with this book. I felt confused a lot of the time because one thing would be happening and then all the sudden the story would change. It was very hard to follow and found myself rereading sentences trying to figure out what was happening. There was also a lot of repeating. Like retelling what had just happened. This was not a book for me.

When I read this, I read it as 1 continuous story. This was the first time I have read anything by PJ Adams and after reading this fantastic story I am sure I will read more!
The Object of His Desire is not your typical erotic romance, PJ Adams has creatively combined the erotic with a touch of romantic suspense added to that is a thrilling mysterious subplot...mixed all together and you get a fabulous storyline. I loved it!

This wasn't the best book I've read this year, but it wasn't the worst either.

The book spent too much time in Trudy's head in my opinion, over thinking things and way over analysing. We really didn't learn much about Will, and that's somewhat ok, but there were still too many questions left unanswered by the end of the book.
