I don't want to make friends; I just want to fix things.

I'll prove I'm more than a jaded, shut-in programmer. But when my first day as a computer tech goes awry, I accidentally smash the distracting toy store guy's drone into scrap metal. He doesn't want my money. Or a fight. Sal suggests I hug his turkey plush. It's stupid, unnecessary, and strangely comforting.

Sal's not like the guys from my college program. He's sweet, patient, and funny. Even when his girlfriend ditches him for her friends. So, when he asks me to lend him my game modding expertise for her birthday gift, it's difficult to say no—and even harder to pretend she deserves him. What he needs is a real friend...and we could share benefits. We did seem compatible, especially if he was single. But if I'm actually going to let someone into my life, it'll require some serious modifications.

Annelise Amore is a romance writer in the Midwest US, where she eats enough cheese it probably seeps into her stories. Mod the Mall is the second instalment in the Love at Westbrook Mall interconnected standalones, and it was such a fun read!
If you love Strangers -> Friends -> Lovers, gaming, and neurodivergent representation in romance novels, this one is for you! 💜
I love Annelise's work, and while Haunt The Mall is still my favourite, I was so hyped to read her next instalment, and it didn't disappoint!
Zero's dry humour and snarky commentary on the world around her had me laughing out loud on multiple occasions.
She is the black cat to Sal's golden retriever for sure!

𝘔𝘰𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘢𝘭𝘭 is a quirky opposites-attract workplace romance that follows Zero, a neuro-spicy tech whiz who’s perfectly content avoiding emotional entanglements – until she accidentally crashes Sal’s drone. Sal, the kind-hearted toy store owner, surprises her with a hug from a plush turkey, sparking an unexpected bond between them.

Zero is a socially awkward, fiercely independent protagonist who keeps her emotional walls up while immersing herself in her work. Despite her intention to remain closed off, she slips into a friends-with-benefits arrangement with Sal, complicating everything as their connection evolves naturally and she develops deeper feelings for him.

Their chemistry crackles effortlessly, with Sal’s warm demeanor perfectly complementing Zero’s introverted and guarded nature. I loved witnessing Zero's struggle with vulnerability. Watching her slowly open up to Sal, despite her fears, was heartwarming. It beautifully illustrates how the right person can encourage us to reveal parts of ourselves we've kept hidden.

𝘔𝘰𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘢𝘭𝘭 strikes a perfect balance between lighthearted fun and emotional growth. This book is perfect for fans of the black cat energy x golden retriever dynamic and friends-with-benefits romances. Overall, 𝘔𝘰𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘢𝘭𝘭 is a must-read that stays with you long after the final page, reminding us that the best connections often come when we least expect them!

I was so excited for this story to come out, after gobbling up the first one. Kat & Victor from the first book do make some appearances, so it may be beneficial to read that before starting this. Zero's bluntness in this story was very refreshing. I'm not sure if the author intended for her to come across as someone on the spectrum, but it's nice to see the representation, as someone who's on it, myself. Very cute story, and I'm already so pumped for the next book!

P.s. Would love to see some queer romance in the series eventually.

I really enjoyed Mod the mall. It was a little slow to start off with but I persevered and I found myself really enjoying it.
It was a realistic story about how relationships aren’t always love and roses from the start but can be awkward and hard work. Starting as friends and then with benefits Zero thought that she had messed everything up with Sal and he didn’t feel the same way but once they actually spoke about their feelings, they were on the same page and they would learn to be in this relationship together.

This is the 2nd book in the interconnected standalone series. This a cute and fun read. I really enjoyed this one. Im neurodivergent as well, so I was able to connect with the characters.
I also found myself laughing out loud. Cute and fast read. I would read again, and I recommend you to read it as well.

Another great one!!!

I can't figure out who I like more, now....Kat or Sal.... (It's Kat though. My horror-loving emo heart loves her so much!)

But this was another winner!! and it tackles anxiety, trauma, and sexual curiosity/experimentation so well!

On to the next book!!

Welcome back to the Westbrook Mall. Full of quirky characters and all your shopping needs!

Book 2, focuses on Zero, a give it to you straight computer tech and Sal, the sweetheart from the Toy store. You will be visited by characters from book 1, Haunt the Mall, Kat and Victor so it would be a good idea to read them in order.

She’s neurodivergent and he’s too kind for his own good (but he’ll figure it out!). This workplace romance will be great for anyone who likes to geek out, gamers, those looking to find themselves and those who love a good black cat to golden retriever storyline 🐈‍⬛ 🐕

Thank you to the author, Annelise Amore for the opportunity to read this book. I received an epub for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
