He died in 2010. They reanimated him in 2123.Joseph’s gamble paid off, and now he has it all – cool new tech, and the ultimate life do-over.
When a family tragedy mucks up his plans for a normal second shot at living, he’s forced to focus on triggering a supernatural ability instead.
Which is sort of cool. Sort of terrifying.
Definitely not how he’d anticipated spending his Life Take Two.
In a time when not everyone welcomes the New Revives, Joseph must discover where he fits in while opposing forces push him forward. Caught between the love of his past and the thrill of the present, will Joseph unlock a power beyond belief and find his role in society, or will his hesitation cost him and his family everything?
CryoShift is a suburb blend of science fiction with profound human themes. The novel follows Joseph, who, after his death in 2010, is reanimated in 2123, offering him an extraordinary second chance at life. Just imagine what a new life would be like for you, but everyone you know is gone, and you're starting all over?
Joseph navigates a world filled with advanced technology and societal shifts, all while grappling with personal loss and the complexities of starting anew. The world-building and character development are top-notch, excellent! CryoShift is not just a story about futuristic possibilities but also a poignant exploration of what it means to be human. Highly recommended for fans of science fiction and thought-provoking narratives.
Cryoverse deftly explores several strong sci-fi themes - cryogenic tech, what it's like to be someone displaced in time, and the societal impact of future political upheaval. But it's not a dry, analytical take; instead, the story is given heart and personality through the voice of the main character, Joseph. He's funny, naturally curious, adventurous, caring, and all-too-human.
This is a very personal story, focused on the trials and triumphs of Joseph's return to life; now I look forward to a Book 2 in which we learn more about the past 100 years of political and social upheaval and what's it's done to the world.
Just finished your book :-D I wasn't much of a reader until about 4 years ago; But I think I caught up on enough of the literary classics to say I enjoyed this as much as most of the others. Looking forward to the sequel!
I haven’t read a science fiction book in quite a while. I forgot how much fun they can be. Nicole had so many wonderful creative ideas. I finished the book in two days. I’m hoping she has a subsequent book starring the same lead character.
This book takes you on a journey with a man who died in 2021 but was resurrected through science in 2123. In this "fish out of water" tale, Joseph awakens to a future more intriguing and threatening than he imagined. Amazing technological advancements are accompanied by resentment by a portion of the populace toward new revivals. And there are secrets that the biotech company who engineered his revival hasn't told him. As if starting a new life in another century wasn't enough, Joseph learns it's more complex than he imagined.
With splendid world-building, Ms. Frens imagines an intriguing future that teases and taunts as you explore it with Joseph. As a beta reader, I read this more than once and was captivated by Joseph's story and the wonderful future gadgets.
CryoShift is about Joseph who died in 2010 and was reanimated over a hundred years later. As Joseph figures out his new world, he encounters tragedy, risks, and opposing forces. I enjoyed turning the pages to see what Joseph would encounter and choose.
Nicole Frens is the author and created this story to connect with her father who chose cryonics for himself when he passed. This is her debut and it’s so good. 😊 Frens writes fabulously, with much humor and creativity. She clearly did her research and imagination. She also considered many details, offering a picture of life and work for future generations.
The story has elements that are familiar and very interesting elements in the future that I’d love to experience. Like the characters, I found myself wrestling with the questions of what is good technology and what should we leave alone. I also considered what relationships matter most.
Ultimately this book is about second chances and about connection. I don’t usually read sci-fi yet I really enjoyed this story. And yes, Frens is on to something… with the wild tech of the future. I personally wouldn’t choose cryonics but loved stepping into the future with Joseph to see what the future holds. Definitely recommend this book and will read anything else Frens writes.
