I did not realize that about 20% of workers are under the thumb of some kind of licensing board system, which was much larger than I thought. The author does a good job of reporting on their local conditions and why they lead to negative outcomes, causing prices to rise and quality to drop. The book is quite short, focused on the industry as a whole and mostly on medicine in particular.
Their reporting does a good job of weaving through the subject, taking a strong stance but also willing to steelman their arguments through nuance. They focus primarily on Tennessee, where they live, and little on the rest of the country. I would've welcomed more writing focusing on a broader set of examples.
