Brothers Unholy #1

Brothers Unholy: A Deadly Brothers Paranormal Romance

Rate this book
Sam, Taj, and Mani are run away slaves during the Antebellum period. On their way to liberation, Sam encounters a tri-brid by the name of Jasper Rich who offers him and his brothers a way out of their eternal hell and a glimpse of their futures for just one a piece of Sam's soul. The fear of living a life without his brothers, or even worse, a continued life of bondage, forces Sam to relinquish a piece of his soul for immortality, and he and his brothers become the first Black vampires.

Knowledge is power, and the imparted wisdom Jasper Rich leaves Sam with is priceless, but it will cost the future everything. Sam and his brothers end slavery many decades before its original time, which changes the trajectory of history and the way the United States operates as a whole, and this upsets the balance of the world and a secret society who's been hiding behind the moniker of the KKK, AKA The Free Garrisons, and their number one goal is to get back to the original timeline, which means irradiating Sam, Taj, and Mani no matter what.

But, it couldn't possibly be that simple.

As destiny would have it, in the year 2017, Sam saves a young woman's life, by the name Amionette, as she's running through her own cemetary for dear life. The two quickly learn that their lives are intertwined and they were fated to meet from the start. Amionetee's life has been anything but easy, and when her crazy fiancé, Fletcher, tries to murder her after he's been caught cheating, her life becomes even more twisted. Meeting Sam literally changes her life, and her eyes become awakened to the paranormal and its evils, which it just so happens, that the bad guys in her story are not the three vampire brothers she will come to know and love.

But, amidst a blooming love, there are dark clouds hovering over the budding couple threatening to rip them apart, because their love coming together could mean the destruction of the world the powers that be are trying to bring back, and there's no way they'll let that happen.

*Disclaimer*

This book is a slow burn. There are limited steamy scenes in this first book.

This book does end in a cliffhanger, which means there is a book two.

This book WILL SWITCH NAMES for the vampire boys once they leave the antebellum period. That is not a typo.

This is a historical fiction and does jump back and forth between time periods.

Oh man...this sucks because I feel like the last few book reviews have started with similar sentiments. But I have to say...this one is a struggle for me. Both reading the book and thinking through my review for it. I finished this earlier this morning, but really wanted to sit on it to make sure my feelings were solidified.

And those feelings, unfortunately, are that this book was not good to me. On multiple levels....

From a technical standpoint, this book could have used an edit, or just someone to read through it once. There were so many continuity errors, and just outright glaring errors that I was taken out of the story multiple times while reading. To the point where I couldn't ignore it and it was distracting me from what was going on because I was trying to make sense of what was intended vs. what was actually on the page.

From a character, plot, and story perspective, Brothers Unholy just fell short. I'm leaving this book feeling like nothing has happened! I know the characters names, a bit of their background and who they are in relation to eachother. But I don't really KNOW anything about them, and as a result, if I even LIKE them or want to root for them. The plot of the story seems to have JUST been getting underway when the book ended and there is no really story line that I could point to to describe what this book was about even if I had a gun to my head. The only thing I could say is that its about 3 brothers who are vampires and 3 girls who are human. And even that...the relationship between Amionette, Zuri, and Sacred felt contrived and inauthentic. Things were just all over the place, with a lot going in the 200+ pages, but nothing really happening.

And it sucks because I'm REALLY looking for good paranormal/fantasy books with Black characters but i'm having a hard time. And it also sucks because this story, the premise that Nastee has come up with has SO much potential...it was just lacking in execution. Even with my disappointment in this book, if the second were available to download and read right now, I WOULD! Which is why I'm giving it two stars instead of one. Because even with all that I did not like and enjoy with this book, my interest is still piqued. I SEE the vision...I just need for it to be crafted a bit better. And honestly, a good beta read or friend reading through would go a LONG way in terms of improvement.

While I DO genuinely feel that if a second book were available, I would start it tonight. I don't know that in a few days, let alone a few months or whenever the sequel does come out, that I'd STILL be interested. But we'll see when that time comes. For now? The Brown brothers are in my rearview and i'll be on to the next paranormal/fantasy book featuring Black authors.

Good start to an intriguing series

A lot of ground was covered in this 1st installment of A Deadly Brothers Series. I felt a little lost at times, but I definitely felt a connection to each character.
I'm very interested in seeing where this story is going.

I know you lying! I know this book didn’t end like this 🥹🪄☠️😔🤔🤓🥵😳🤯🫡🫨😵 Ok I need Book 2 to come out ASAP!

📓 Vampires, witches, warlocks, shape shifters - you name it this book has all of be elements and I thoroughly enjoyed this reminded me a little of tv shows True Blood, The Originals, & Supernatural only with Black excellence that oozed and exuded off of the pages! I’m here for it and I loved every second of it! I was mad when it ended and the way it ended but Syncere (Sam) Tyrian (Taj) & Malicio (Mani), Amionette all have my devoted attention! I’m here for the journey!

📚What would you do if you & your brothers created history and ended a historical atrocity, would you trade part of your soul to have immortal power to live with your brothers, will the world despite’s it’s time constantly shift to harm you, will a woman be your downfall, what happens when your forced to go underground to heal, what happens 100 years later, will you meet your match, who is the woman that makes your power go awry and out of your control, who is Fletcher, who is Timothy? Will you be able to figure it all out?

Ooooooooooooo weeee!

Baby listen… if you have a thing for vampires and don’t mind a period piece THIS IS THE BOOK FOR YOU!
In this story you meet Sam, Mani and Taj. Three brothers who are taking advantage of an opportunity to be free. After a heart pounding escape that turned into making life changing decisions, the brothers were offered an opportunity they couldn’t refuse.

Sam gave me Black vibes from Joan Vassar’s Black Series. Just yummy 😋. The story gave Minion vibes written by the great LA Banks, may she continue to rest in peace.❤️

You also meet Amionette and Fletcher raggedy self. He is horrible 🤦🏾‍♀️
Two worlds collide and things start to heat up and time spans across a couple hundred years.

This was such a great read, and I’m jumping right into the next one. Not overly sexual for a vampire-ish story. Them vamps really like to get physical 😂, but I appreciate the concentration was more on the story line in this one.

This is my first read by this author and I’ll definitely be reading more.

I thoroughly enjoyed the dark and captivating story of Syncere, Tyrian, and Malicio in "Brothers Unholy".

The introduction of Amionette added a fresh and intriguing element to the story. Her connection to Syncere and the secrets she carries create a suspenseful and engaging plotline.

Giving the author grace, this book definitely could've undergone about 2-3 rounds of editing BUT I feel she does a fantastic job of building a rich and immersive world, without complex characters or words... simply put... I loved the storyline and can't wait for book two.

Also shoutout to the Author for taking the constructive criticism to improve book two which is releasing 4/2024!

Brothers

Just wrapped up the series opener, and gotta say, it laid down a solid foundation. This read dives deep into the backstory of each character, setting the stage for how they stumbled into immortality. It was a decent ride. Though I was craving a bit more thrill and action from the trio, the vibe hints that there's some fire lined up, especially with that cliffhanger finish. Can't wait to see where the next book takes us.

This book had a good start. I like the historical aspect of it and the twist on history. Black vampires are always a plus in my book. There were a few noticeable mistakes and I couldn't ignore them because I almost got lost in the story. The ending was not what I expected but I'm still willing to see how things turn out in book 2.

Nastee is a new to me author and this is a long awaited release. I didn’t know what to expect, but one thing I was grateful for was BLACK VAMPIRES with special powers!!! The timeline play, the plot, the character developmen. It was all there. I can’t wait to read book 2!

Good but…

The storyline was good, but the errors through out threw me off and made it hard to read at times…especially when the MLC name changed to something completely different.

Outstanding

This book isn't just a paranormal story it's storytelling at its best. The value of knowledge gain in the switching between timelines that were weaved together to bring each characters story to life. The very fact that BLACK vampires with a strength that wasn't just based on the trauma endured, but the resilience to not be stuck in their pain ...they thrived. This was a play by play of how a story should give information and flow to make an amazing story. The love between brothers was felt from the beginning to end of this book. This definitely is my paranormal five star read and this book didn't disappoint at all. I literally wasn't focus on the romance aspect because the plot of the story just amazing so I literally wasn't worry about it. Now don't get me wrong when it was brought into story it was cherry on top of a great strong drink. I hope book 2 come out this year because this is a book series that I can see as a TV series that definitely would top all the other vampire shows. Also, can we admire the illustrations in the end...my god I definitely need a physical copy to add to my library. This story was beyond top tier bravo ma'am!

I wanted more

This was a good idea and there were times I saw it coming together. Then there was the repetition and parts that the story could have done without. Also, authors don't have to continually say the character's name. Especially if they are the only person or one of two people in the scene. This is in romance and erotica categories and there was none of either. It didn't make me invested enough to want to run to book 2. What needed to be expanded on was cut short. What could have been shorter was prolonged. However, world building and character of Sam was good.

I just want to start off by saying WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nastee……. Why would you do us like this????? The cliff hangers y’all be writing and edges y’all be leaving us on is unhealthy and unsafe. WHEW!!!!!! This was my 1st read of this genre and at this point this author is stuck with me while I don’t even want to be cause she just left us out to dry. This book was sooooooooo good. At 1st I didn’t like the flip between the past and present but I learned to understand why it was necessary. Baby Nastee wrote tf out this book. Syn is bae, he is BDE. Lawd that man sounds like an entire meal and he shuts the entire room DOWN. Mali is my baby because he’s a true sweetheart. Ty is my terrorist because he’s gonna show up every time, and he gonna do what needs to be done 1st and ask questions after. WHEW!! I’m loving the Brown brothers. I hope Fletcher dies in Book 2 because there is really no need for him after chapter 1 of Book 2. Lawdddddd my girl Nette, your light and love is coming, I can feel it. There are some good surprises in store for you. Big ones too. Sacred, I pray you get the peace and safeness you need. Zuri, you’re such a beautiful soul and I look forward to seeing where life goes for you. This crew in this book has a place in my heart. Jasper ole dirty dog ssa can gon on cause he starting to piss me off cause I feel like he doing more harm than good. OKAY! Rant and review over. I’ll see y’all when Book 2 drops.

Not what I expected but definitely not disappointed

I became aware of this Author on tiktok when I found her page and her videos. I have a habit of not reading the blurb when I support an indie author I see online so I had no idea what to expect. Her description is really nice, the story flowed nicely and overall it was a good read for me. I would recommend this book to others

It seems that lately I’ve developed a habit of picking up books and not really knowing exactly what I’m getting myself into. Luckily, that has continued to be a positive thing for me. Straight away I will say that this book is written with a very specific audience in mind…it definitely doesn’t hold back when flashing back to the brothers during slavery.

I’m definitely interested to see how Amionette believes she will be able to carry on in a city with Fletcher undetected. There’s only so long that she can “disappear” from her business without anyone raising a red flag. Reading about how horrible of a person Fletcher was and how much Amionette struggled with making personal connections and friends, I was excited that she had formed a bond with Zuri and her sister.

The chapters flash back and forth through time giving you a dual timeline of events. I’m very curious to see how everyone ties in together. How does Amionette’s grandmother tie into the story? Who exactly is Jasper? What is Fletcher actually up to? And how does Timothy tie into this crazy world?

I’m very much looking forward to the next book in the series.

I enjoyed watching the brothers progress through time but I will say that the language throughout the times for the brothers was not consistent. Having been buried for 100 years, Syncere came out of his grave with the vernacular of the current time as opposed to the terminology that might have been used during the times prior to him being buried.

I enjoyed the storyline but I really fought with myself on giving this a higher rating because of several typos, mixing the brother’s names up a few times, and most of all the constant reminding of how Syncere protected & took care of his brothers and how much Zuri wanted to “love on” Amoinette and their newfound friendship. It literally took up about 88% of the book & I got to the point that I would skim & skip pages because it was just so much constant “caring.” Don’t get me wrong, I cried a little during the initial writing of the new friendship & how Zuri showed up for Amoinette but so much of the writing revolved around this and Syncere taking care of his brothers all his life that I began to get numb and annoyed. I would’ve like to see the story progress more without the constant mentioning of caring.

Then there’s the changing over or the character’s POV. One moment you’re reading from one character’s view point & then it’ll change right over to another character’s view point in the next sentence and back again. I think that may be why the brother’s names got mixed up at one point.

Would I recommend the book? Yes because maybe someone else is would appreciate the same things that bothered me.

Am I excited to read the 2nd book? Not really, but hopefully the editing is better so I’ll give it a try.

Some great things, some bad things.

I was intrigued enough to read it, but ultimately disappointed with what was offered.

The authors disclaimer was disappointing. I can only imagine how difficult it must be to put your work out into the world. But when you offer me a disclaimer, already defending a work I’ve not read yet, it leaves me with little belief that this is going to be a good story. Stand ten toes down behind your work, your audience will find you.

Interesting and original ideas for the story. A strong plot, but poorly executed. The jumping back-and-forth in the timeline was a little disjointed, and I didn’t really enjoy it. Although I did enjoy the backstory and the history to the Brown Brothers, I just wish the author had figured out a different way to tell me their story instead of the time jumping.

The book definitely could’ve used an editor, either the author herself, or even a good friend with a literary eye . And for a book that is self proclaimed ‘a paranormal romance’, where was the romance? I don’t think I enjoy all three brothers’ stories smooshed together into one. I would much rather every book have its own brother’s story. But that’s not the way the author wants to write her book, so be it, it just makes for rushed and hurried “romance”. Making it difficult for me to focus on any one storyline.

I’m interested in this authors growth, but in no hurry to read the next in this series.

Ok this book was very entertaining! I do feel like the timeline got thrown off just a bit but overall I was entertained. I will wait for the second book to see if some questions I have are answered because I was kind of confused. It’s marketed as a PARANORMAL ROMANCE however it was more world building and back and forth.

Still a very good read tho! Don’t get me wrong! I was engaged from beginning to end.

I truly enjoyed the relationship between the brothers. I love how SAM really set the bar high and guided his brothers and taught them to love and be good people regardless of their short comings and their later advantages as VAMPIRES.

I wasn’t too fond of Amionette’s story and maybe because we haven’t gone deeper into her origin. However, we learned a lot of background and it seemed like at some point the timeline got thrown off.

I definitely still recommend it…

I really liked the idea of this book. It was listed as a Paranormal Romance, but there wasn’t any romance. It was more world building with no climax. Great world building though and so much potential. Sometimes I felt parts of this book just rambled and you could not read 2-3 pages randomly and not miss anything at all.
Hated that Fletcher was Fredrick about 50% of the time. Literally had to stop and go back like, “who the hell is Fredrick?”
Slow book with good potential. It’s a 50% chance I’ll read book 2. I’d like to see where this goes, but if it keeps the same pace as book 1, it’ll be in my DNF stack.

This book does just enough to keep you wanting more! But also pissed you off with so many errors!!
A bit long winded and drawn out to a point I was sometimes ready to give up. The story is interesting enough to keep you pushing thru. Great cliffhanger! The characters are definitely lovable but also sometimes very frustrating in a “why don’t you listen” type of way 🤣😂
Some things are predictable. I saw the three girls coming together to essentially be the 3 vampires obsession. She kind of made it too obvious which girl was for each brother by making the girls personality similar to each brothers personality/powers. All of this I could get pass!!

But the grammatical errors and just the flow of the writing is cringy. There are times when one character is supposedly talking or being spoken too but yet a different characters name is mentioned. At one point the character fletcher was called Fredrick. I was like ummm who is that?
The introduction to Amionette says the year 2017… just to end up actually being 2018. So this confused me because I thought maybe a year had passed and things were picking back up but NOPE! Same week that she almost died and Syncere came back. Errors like these made it very difficult to keep up with the flow up the book. I spent a lot of time going back to make sure I didn’t misread something. I see the potential! But this was just in DESPERATE need for better editing.
I’m going to read the second book in hopes that the editing and flow is better. Plus the cliffhanger leaves you wanting more! But yeah this was a difficult read.

History Rewritten in Blood

Brothers Unholy is one of those stories that hooks you early and refuses to let go. The novel unfolds across two timelines, beginning in the late 1700s during the antebellum era and seamlessly jumping forward to 2018. The back-and-forth is done cleverly, adding depth and tension instead of confusion.

In the late 1700s, the Brown brothers find themselves in a deadly, no-way-out situation. Led by the oldest brother, a desperate decision is made: he trades a piece of his soul to save himself and his two brothers. That single choice alters the course of history in unimaginable ways, flipping the world’s power structure so that minorities, specifically Black people, rise to the top. And of course… that shift creates its own dangerous consequences.

From the very beginning, I was locked in. Book one does a lot of heavy lifting with world-building,character development, and storyline setup, but the pacing never drags. Every character feels intentional, layered, and connected, and watching those connections unfold was one of my favorite parts of the story.

The ending? Absolutely leaves you wanting more, in the best way. This is clearly just the beginning of something bigger, and I’m already diving straight into Book 2.

⭐ Highly recommended if you enjoy speculative fiction, rich world-building, morally complex choices, and stories that challenge power, history, and consequence.

I wish this had been released as one big book. There were a lot of things I loved about this book. I think the author does an amazing job creating visuals and mood.

The first 25% had me hooked. We see our main characters go through some traumatic, violent, shit. Once that shit show is addressed, we see personal growth. I was enjoying myself until I realized that it was freaking 60/70% before the reunion I was waiting for actually went down.

I'm so glad the second book is already out for me to jump to, but I couldn't find a release date on the third!

I don't want to give too much away. I plan on doing a video review. But I will say that this has a lot of depth. Despite what your slutty brain told you upon seeing the cover, this is NOT a why choose/omega verse story. I highly doubt the brothers could or would share.

At first, I thought this was just about Sam finding his woman and then the other books would feature the other brothers, WRONG!

This story mixes in romance, personal growth, political suspense, secret societies, vampires, family secrets, killers, and a pressing deadline going down all at once including each brother having a love interest... or two

Interesting!

This story will definitely be in the background of my mind, just interesting and complex characters!

Literally everyone in this book had multiple sides to them, these brothers are the definition of “I am my brother’s keeper” I can’t even have favorites because each brother was intriguing.

Syncere - his leadership, like his brother said he’s just simply “that N!99@“

Tyrian - I was expecting him to be the wild card / hot head but I was pleasantly surprised, I mean he literally took in for the team!

Malicio - had me with his had me with his timidness overall sweet nature.

Amionette - She’s feisty and she’s definitely a fighter. I’m interested in seeing how her family ties play into this and just overall her fightback character with such an alpha male in Syncere.

This is my opinion and mine to have. I was a little lost reading this book, I guess I should have checked to see what the genre was because I got the vampire theme but there was no real showcase of them being vampires except the one scene at the brothers hotel. I wish we had gotten the action from Syncere handing old boy his head like we did with Malice. There was some romantic hint but not really any room to romance to flourish. Are we getting a story of the brothers finding someone to spend out their days with? The ending had me questioning what was going on without giving me a real reason to want to keep reading on. However, in all honesty because of these questions that I have I probably will read the next book but I hope that there is a little bit more if the vampire behaviors and chance at a happy life with someone other than them three in the house by themselves.
