What happens when you meet the right person, but it’s never the right time?
Nikki I went from gracing magazine covers as a member of a best-selling female group to being the subject of a blog article on “The Downfall of Nikki Hart.” After the flop of my solo album and a failed engagement, my anxiety is at an all-time high. I’m in desperate need of a fresh start, so I’m headed to London in hopes of kickstarting my solo career. But first, I’m returning home to Atlanta for my old high school’s jubilee celebration. I’m here to heal the rifts caused by my manipulative ex and to repair my friendship with Ced.
Cedrick I’ve known Anika Hart was the woman for me since we met in high school. But family obligations and our individual music careers have always interfered. I was destroyed by her engagement to the one person in this industry I’d love to see take a long walk off a short pier. Now that she’s back, I’ll do whatever it takes to convince her to stay.
Nikki believes the road to her solo career runs through London’s music scene. But I’m an award-winning record producer and co-owner of a brand-new boutique record label. If she’ll give me twelve weeks, I’ll prove we’re the perfect match in love and music.
Content Notes NEVER THE RIGHT TIME deals with a variety of issues that may be difficult for some readers. Please note that this story deals with the following:
Mental health concerns Anxiety Grief Loss of a parent (off page) Terminal illness mentioned Psychological abuse discussed Discussion about childbearing past 35 Each of these topics is dealt with in an informed and respectful manner. However, some readers may prefer not to read a romance that deals with such heavy, real-life issues.
Vivian Award-winning author Reese Ryan writes sexy, emotional, “grown folks” romantic fiction set in small Southern towns. Her characters find love while navigating career crises and family drama.
Reese's books have been featured on Entertainment Weekly, BuzzFeed, and BookRiot. She is the host of Story Behind the Story—her YouTube show where readers and authors connect.
NEVER THE RIGHT TIME is the second in Reese Ryan’s Love & Music Suite. Singer Anika Hart has had some success as a solo singer but because of her start as part of a trio that essentially relegated her to backup singer and a bad breakup with a controlling producer, she’s been pretty wary of what she sees as her last chance to revive a solo career. Cedrick Brown has always been a steady presence through their careers’ ups and downs, and they’ve enjoyed physical and emotional benefits to their more-than-friendship when they’ve been free to do so.
Reese Ryan’s storytelling is stellar here, as she lets us see into Nikki and Ced’s lives and hearts. Both of them value their families and friendships deeply, despite how their paths have crossed and diverged might make that appear. I appreciated Ms Ryan’s representation of Nikki’s sometimes crushing anxiety, and how it affects her life and relationships. I rooted for Ced and Nikki hard and loved their hard-won happiness. I also loved the general peek at the music industry. Cannot wait for more in this series.
Ryan is not afraid to tackle difficult topics and it makes her novels all the richer. Nikki and Ced are “going through some things” but you know they are going to come out all the stronger, and more in love, for it. This book will not be for everyone, take the content notes seriously, but if you give it a shot you will not be disappointed. 4.5 stars
An amazing second chance romance. This story will completely consume you from the beginning as it takes you through an emotional ride. I loved the characters and chemistry. It’s a well written story with some sensitive topics. Looking forward to reading more.
I always enjoy reading Reese Ryan’s books. This one in particular was good because it involved the female character having anxiety. A lot of people struggle with anxiety so it was great to see it portrayed in a book. I love how the male main character loved and supported her always. Fabulous read!
Simply amazing 👏🏾 🤩 I am in love with this series the chemistry between characters was everything I love how Nikki stood up to dino I was screaming as I was reading that scene was icing on cake she expressed herself very well🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾how she hype up her man ced yessss love this couple can't wait ❤️ for next book in series ❤️ loved I loved it
They both had been through a lot in life but with Ced's love, determination and patience they found their way to each other. Also Nita found her voice.
Best friends separated by a coast as well as family finally get their chance at love
Nikki and Cedrick were best friends until their careers as well as his siblings separated them. Now Nikki is back in Atlanta and Cedrick’s music producing business is growing.
Really good mix of angst, push and pull from other characters and yet the couple overcomes all of their issues to find each other again.
I enjoyed Nikki’s honesty about her body image and how insecurities allowed a narcissistic person to control her life… until she took control back.
There is a happy ending and the family dynamics also resolve themselves.
I love second chance romances, and this one didn't disappoint. This story had my interest not just for the music concept and second chance romance but the female character having anxiety and how she deals with it while navigating her music career. The chemistry between Nikki and Ced was undeniable, but what I loved most was how supportive and caring Ced is to Nikki. He knew just what she needed when things became too much for her. The emotional support they provided to each other was everything they needed to get that second chance at love the right way.
The second series in this book is just as sweet as the first one. This entire series seems to be based on second chance, he falls first romances.
Again the series revolves around the Atlanta music scene and the newly formed Peachtree Records. Cedric and Nikki are featured in this book. It details that relationship and how Nikki records her next album. There’s no third act break up and they get a HEA.
NEVER The RIGHT TIME by Reese Ryan deserves 10 stars. This second chance romance is impressive, emotional, with a touch of tenderness. The album and single release title are on point with the story. Ms.Ryan dealt with heavy topics with grace. I can not wait to discuss this one.
Great book. This book was all about the hidden and obvious love between to people. Niko and Ced had so much love for each other. The trials and drama really made this story so believable.
Nikki Hart and Cedrick Brown finally took the time to really talk to each other and admitted they were in love. The hurt Nikki endured from old dude was awful. I loved Avri.
This is a great book. Nikki has gone through a horrible experience but was able to bounce back and work on getting things right. Cedrick was THE man. He worked hard to get himself and his sisters in the right head space to continue on without mom. Awesome story and really good characters. Easy read.
Second chance books are some of my favorite books, and this author did a wonderful job with Cedrick and Nikki's story. The way that they came back together was very poignant. They were separated from each other due to a manipulative person in her life. I was glad Nikki came to her senses and stood up for herself. Both of them had to work through issues in their lives, but they reunited and grew stronger than ever. Ms. Ryan highlighted Nikki's anxiety and did a great job showing how people deal with having this disorder and how they handle it. I wanted hands to be thrown on Dino, but I did admire how Ced handled himself in that situation. I loved how Ced and Nikki communicated and didn't let him ruin what was for them. Their love, chemistry and support of each other made this a great book to read. Excellent job as usual by this author!!
This is the 2nd book in the “The Love And Music Suite Series.” This is an entertaining read and is may not be for everyone. There are a lot of emotions, ups, downs, personal issues, family issues and a second chance at romance. As usual Reese Ryan does an awesome job with her characters and plots. You will enjoy “Never The Right Time” just as much I do and I do look forward to reading the next book in this series.
I received an ARC via the author Reese Ryan and I am leaving my review voluntarily.
I became really engrossed in this. It was refreshing to see how Ced and Nikki loved and desired each other. I'll admit, though, that I paused reading for a few days because I felt Ced was very quick to let her off the hook at the gala and...it might've irked me a little bit. LOL But I dug how it all turned out and I'm looking forward to reading the next one in the series.
This was a story about Anika Hart and Derrick Brown. They have been in and out of a relationship since high school. Because of their careers in the music industry. Now that they're finally on the same page, Derrick has a plan to dedicate his undivided attention to promoting her come back album
I was worried as I read the author notes and triggers. This book was well executed and worth the read. Consideration was given to all who interact with those that experience anxiety at any level. The development and growth shown by the FMC is honest and admirable.
This is an entertaining story that is poignant, heartfelt and steamy all at the same time. Nikki and Cedrick have a long history as friends and sometime lovers. They have to navigate misunderstandings, recriminations, insecurities and their emotions to find their happily ever after. The nuance and depth of the mental health issues and grief that both Nikki and Cedrick dealt with were handled with sensitivity and realism. I look forward to another book in this series.
This story was just as good as the first one, and I am really enjoying this series. I absolutely loved the relationship and banter between Nikki and Cedrick.
