You know what they say about the quiet ones right? They are the ones to watch, and Ned was no exception. Just because he was reserved, and hardly ever raised his voice didn't mean he wasn't dangerous. You just didn't know it until it was too late.
I was excited about this story, as Ned and Shan have been playing this cat and mouse game too long, and it is time for them to get it together. Ned is ready, willing, and able, but Shan's independent, hard head ass was not having it. I wondered what her children's father did to her that caused her to be so stubborn, and independent to her own detriment. When it was revealed, I did feel bad for her, but sis you was still doin' the most! 👀 Ned was showing and proving to you all you needed to know that he was a good man, who was all about you. But I see you needed him to boss up on that ass to get you right huh?
I see why Ned and Mega are best friends, as these men have several screws missing not loose, with all of their crazy behaviors. It must be unhinged ni**a season, cause they out in full force, but I'm here for it. 😂 Ned would just cut up out the blue with no warning. That may make him more dangerous than Mega's crazy ass. 🤯
The friend groups that both the men and ladies have are hysterical, and ride or die. You call that bat phone with any request, and they coming. I'm glad that Shan finally got some act right, because anyone could see the love that she and Ned shared. However, her fear of being embarrassed and hurt again was crippling, and it caused her ego and pride to show out. Another good read. 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

It’s the quiet ones we have to watch out for. Ned was reserved and kept to himself. He didn’t let that stop him from going after Shandeli. She was the perfect fit for him seriously.
Shan had dealt with a horrible bad apple who happens to be her kids father. He was a complete loser.
I was so hype reading this story.

First few lines....Ned is a donkey. I understand being straight forward with people and what you want. But there is a line between being straight and honest or being rude.

Opposite of soft
I’ve been waiting for this story since Ned and Shan were introduced in Mega and Ruth’s story and this one did not disappoint. Ned may not have talked loud like Mega but he was just as unhinged as his best friend. Ned was all about Shan and I loved it. He had so much patience in dealing with her shenanigans of trying to be Ms. Independent, but Shan had to FAFO that Ned was not to be played with and that he was anything but soft. He wore her down and showed her that she could rely on him and showed her what would happen if she continued being stubborn and trying to be independent when it wasn’t necessary. I really liked these two together and this book had plenty laughs from the unhinged behavior. I would definitely recommend this one.

I want to say that one star is solely on the humor in the book. Also, as a crocheter, it annoyed me that they confused knitting and crocheting. I expect authors to do research before they put something in their books. I couldn’t stop laughing at Mega really because he is unhinged funny 😂 Ned is giving top-tier book boyfriend material; he literally had to tell this stubborn dumb ass girl multiple times that if she or her kids needed anything, she didn’t even have to ask; he would give it to her, but no, she wanted to be dumb . I wish I could give this book 2 stars, but it wasn’t that bad. It was just her that made it bad; like I was annoyed every time it came to her part, all the drama in the book was because of her. Also, check your trigger warnings because some of the things disgusting in this book are unhinged, but they don’t go into detail.

I was waiting on this to hit my kindle like a crackhead waiting on their next hit. Ned came through and did exactly what I thought he was going to do ! Get Shan together ! Shan almost got on my nerves but the mama and the hustler in me understood her plight. Sometimes being too independent can be a downfall and luckily for Shan, Ned didn’t let her hit rock bottom. I loved her feisty personality and literally everything else about her. Her friendship with Ruth is always great to hear about. I was so happy to see the gang all together once again and Mega being Mega. Croy and Fiona will always be couples goals for me. It’s safe to say Mel Dau did it again !!! Ned is definitely the opposite of soft ! He’s the definition of show and prove !

Even tho Shandeli annoyed me half the book I’d give this a 4.5. Ned was tryna stay on his cool tip til Shan kept testing his gangsta lol. Bet she won’t do that no more. I was thoroughly entertained and laughed out loud. Definitely recommend.

It's been sometime since I've disliked both characters so much.
Ned was an asshole and not a loveable asshole but just a dick. He's not particular, he's not weird...he's a jackass.
Shan, is insufferable. I liked her in Mega & Ruth's book and she lost all that good grace in the first 15 pages of this book. She spends most of the book being, argumentative, deviant and making poor decisions.
Now let's talk about a choice the author makes on a random plot point: Ned & Mega are hired to kill a pedophile and for some reason that I still can't make sense of the author decides to make the predator trans. Why? How is the story moved? Who is served by reinforcing a stereotype? We could have skipped all that shit.
The only redeeming thing about this book was the friendships, specifically Mega and Ned's.

Ain't nothing like a quiet nonsense man. That was Ned, he gets down. He don't play, unnnkay. Especially when it came to Shan and his babies. The fact that he called them kids his, was it for me.
Shan's super independence was there down fall, not to mention being love scorn by her raggedy azz baby daddy.
Like Mega said hard headedness was the cause for more casualties.
Now let me say this Mega is a FOOL but him and then prayers be having me weak cause he's serious as hell. Then when Ned prayed to, I lost it.
I love a good happily ever after... even though it took everybody getting cussed out by their husbands even good pure pregnant Ruth...bwahahaha Mega is hilarious.

Aye yooooo, I just finished Opposite Of Soft and I didn’t think anyone in this series could be crazier and as unhinged as Mega but I was so wrong. The saying “birds of a feather stick together” is the epitome of this crew. They all have their triggers and are stone cold killaz with a soft side for the ones they love and I like it a lot…(In my Celo voice)🎵Does that make me craaaaazaaaaay”🎵 😏!
Nedrick Summerson, Jr. is that silent calm crazy nukka that will make a mutha go nite nite. Although he’s fine AF, commanding, dominate and insane, It’s the calm that others should worry about and I love that he crochets to stay in his calm but puts it to good use for babies at the NICU (lil spoiler). That light skin ain’t nothing to play with your life about. He loves a woman who is broken, everytime he breaks a barrier, another pops up.
Shan is that broken woman who loves Ned but is afraid of heartbreak and disappointment while fighting her own battles trying to provide for her kids that she does some things that’s unsavory to others to survive but not to Ned because that puddy tat is the match to his flame.
Their romance is wild, crazy and uncontrolled like an inferno (IYKYK). They are nuts about each other and I love that Ned accepts Shan and everything that comes with her and it’s a lot. This ninja doesn’t care and doesn’t play about her or her kids, “That’s a good man Savannah.”
Get into this story, you won’t be disappointed, it gives as good as Mega Man and then some. You get the laughs and the seriousness of what their love is all about with plot twist and a lot of drama.

Ned was definitely the opposite of soft but also the definition of annoying. The constant cursing and attempts at humor were irritating. I understand that not every man is stoic, but as an author, you need to know how to balance it. I didn’t enjoy Mega’s character, so his repeated appearances throughout the book—loud, obnoxious, and ignorant—dropped the rating for me. The personalities of the men were so overwhelming that they distracted me from the romance story that was supposed to be unfolding.
Honestly, I felt like this story should have been a novella or not told at all. The interactions between Ned and the female lead were strange, with the female lead being especially off-putting. It’s hard for me to get into stories where one character wants commitment and the other is afraid, yet both go out of their way to block the other from finding someone else. I really dislike that trope.
Overall, the story was just okay to me. If the author could tone down some of the characters to focus more on the love, romance, or deeper aspects of the story, it might have fared better. Every moment of vulnerability that wasn’t sex was overshadowed by obnoxious commentary. This book felt like reading a continuous scene where someone is trying too hard to be funny at the worst times. I usually enjoy this author’s work, but this series wasn’t it for me.

This book was amazing when I tell you ned is just as bad s*** as mega I can't even.... Shandeli I love her so much, He is a strong independent woman who literally knows what she wants but is she scared to get her heart broken again. Mega and Ned are latterly the same person just in different fonts. When I saw you mega might be crazy but ned ain't that far behind him, The audacity this man had with the chick in the beginning try to give him the best oral of his life and he was like yeah not as aint it I guess he plus during it sent me. Hymn literally just often people not even forget to get those just for having the audacity... Burning down a strip club and marking the owner and his lil head giving girl, sent me. Ned merking Edward and his big head b**** a** wife I think I'm a cake. But what really got me is mega sitting in that dangle kitchen making a sandwich tell my son they got boars head deli meat...had me cackling. I like how all the girls rode for each other literally no matter the circumstance. All of them will be touched in the head but I love that for this group of friends. This is definitely a very fun read and I can't wait to get the physical copy of it.

Mel Dau got me screaming, laughing on a Saturday afternoon!! This book was fire!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Ned and Shan had me in me on a Rollercoaster throughout this whole book. Ned is trying to be anything and everything to Shandeli. But girl and get shenanigans got Ned out in them streets unaliving people left and right. And she got the nerve to involve Mega, Croy, AND Riker's women in her mess. You KNOW Mega is crazy about Ruth. You can just imagine how that all went down. Lmao!! Yes, indeed, this book was such a pleasure to read. To finally have answers about why Shandeli refused to give her heart to Ned and become his woman. And Ned always was present for Shandeli and the kids no matter what he had going on. The journey to their happily ever after was not neat, clean, simple, or easy. But it was truthful and eye-opening into what made these characters into the people that they are. I loved loved LOVED the ending. Got this girl tearing up over these pages. But that's ok because this book was worth it. 💯💯💯 I know I'll be re-reading this book in the near future for sure. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Ned is trying to be anything and everything to Shandeli. But girl and get shenanigans got Ned out in them streets unaliving people left and right. And she got the nerve to involve Mega, Croy, AND Riker's women in her mess. You KNOW Mega is crazy about Ruth. You can just imagine how that all went down. Lmao!! Yes, indeed, this book was such a pleasure to read. To finally have answers about why Shandeli refused to give her heart to Ned and become his woman. And Ned always was present for Shandeli and the kids no matter what he had going on. The journey to their happily ever after was not neat, clean, simple, or easy. But it was truthful and eye-opening into what made these characters into the people that they are. I loved loved LOVED the ending. Got this girl tearing up over these pages. But that's ok because this book was worth it. 💯💯💯 I know I'll be re-reading this book in the near future for sure. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

5 across the board.
I know her 3 (I think) books aren’t a series but they low key connect so I’ve been reading them out of order
I’m gonna just rate them all here since I just ate this book up like I did with the other too. I love how they’re all short, they got to the point and it captured my attention from start to finish. I only have Mega’s book to read and I’m so excited cause this man has me dyinggggggg.
My favorite def has to be about my favs croy and fee (pressure cooker) then RIP and Whimsey (can’t be broken) and now them… I don’t even need to read Mega’s to know I’m gonna fall in love with it. 10000/10 on all
ALSO ned and mega calling each other “Bubba” PLZZZZ I literally smiled to big every time that would happen. The family and love between all the friends… I love that cause it’s so important to have black couple friends in my opinion. And the messages spread out through the stories were chefs kiss.
Edit: okay I just finished Mega’s story and honestly my only complaint is that she didn’t make this a series. I feel like it would’ve been way more satisfying if I read them in order. But again 1000/10 idc I ate all 4 stories up in 2 days

This book opened on on a “ oh damn “ moment and that set the tone for what I was about to read. Imagine you asking a man how he likes your “skills” and he tells you ehh it could use some work or ehh it’s just okay. That’s a straight blow to your ego right??? Well Ned is n to easily impressed and he has no issues with letting you know. Though Ned is fine and could have anyone he wants his 🍆 only gets excited by one woman…Shandeli.
Ned is a man who isn’t afraid to take care of anyone who is threatening the people he loves or people who are doing vile things. Shandeli on the other hand is a single mother of 2 kids and is struggling to pay her bills and give her children the the things they want. Both Ned and Shan are difficult in their own ways but they both seem to be drawn back to each other. Ned will do anything to make sure Shan and her kids are okay and happy …even if that means some people lose their life in the journey lol. Two hurt souls come together and make a life despite their stubbornness.

Opposite of Soft is definitely what Ned is, so it’s the perfect title for his book. We were introduced to Ned in Mega’s book as his best friend. They calm crazy to Mega’s loud crazy.
Ned and Shaun’s love story was complicated but very beautiful. Ned being quiet and observant person that he is, knew that Shaun had some trust issues and tried to be gentle and respect her boundaries but that didn’t last long.
Shaun is definitely his peace and as much as she tried to fight it, she was madly in love with him. He loved her kids as his own and was there to support her when the drama made its appearance.
I loved this book so much and recommend it to it to everyone.

I really enjoyed Ned. He’s laid-back and deadly my kinda man. It’s refreshing to read about a character who doesn’t do all the back-and-forth; he says what he means and means what he says.
Now Shan? Whew, she’s a crash out for sure. But I’m glad she’s got Ned. He’s the calm to her storm, though he can flip and bring the chaos when needed too.
And I love that all four women are friends. I can definitely see Shan learning a thing or two from Fiona, lol.

Shandeli is the opposites, she is a single mother of two and louder with her dislike of something or someone.
They met through Mega and Ruth. Their ciupling was a just a physical thing. Ut started getting confusing when he wanted more, but she was afraid of past hurt.
Ned eventually sat her down and let her know he aint with the games. She in or she out?!?!

A wild ride
Ned and Shan gave me a HEADACHE! Well, more so Shan. I wanted to jump through the pages and shake her. Your knight in shining armor was right there waiting and you were playing with his heart. I think if Ned had put her on ice for real, she would have folded sooner. It’s sad he had to go as far as he did for her to get with the program. Edward really did a number on her, but he got his. Now, all that said, I wish we got to see them more as a couple. I wanted to bask in their love a bit more. Mega and Ruth were still hilarious, but down to ride for their friends.

It’s always the quiet ones that are the most lethal! Ned was not playing with or about Shan. These two were so toxic it was sweet and kinda endearing 😆 I always look forward to a Mel Dau release, but this one was highly anticipated because I knew Ned would be trouble. There's no way he can be best friends with Mega and not be🤷🏾♀️
I truly loved everything about this couple. They were entertaining and set on go for sure but their actions were coming from a place of love. I understood why Shan moved the way she did because her history with relationships left a lot to be desired. Number One Priority
I really enjoyed Ned and Shan's story. It definitely had drama, suspense, death, romance, and laughter. That Ned was something else, in addition to being persistent. He warned Shan about not listening to him and she had a hard lesson to learn.
When he said she was his girl and that he would protect Shan and the kids, he meant it. Bea, Casper, Cinnabon, Edward, and goofy Juliet learned before their untimely demise.
Ruth was that best friend who was your ride and die and didn't bite her tongue. Her and Mega were perfect together.

Come scootch in!!! I can't even find the words...just know when Ned has to show that he's the opposite of soft, clear the area because that man does not play. He is truly the show and prove kind that people really shouldn't ignore. While he didn't intend to fall for Shandeli, once he did, he acknowledged it and meant that they were going to be together. He also realized that she was pushing back against him because of past hurt that had nothing to do with him. When he and his friends pull up on the girls...Just trust me and read this book!!!

All scootched in on the continuation of one of the craziest crew around.
Ned was as the title stated…opposite of soft…until came to his loved ones. Shan finally got over her fear and got her happiness….. At one point If I was Ned, I’d have left her where she stood 😒
Edward had to be dumbest around to let his wife put them in a
situation that never was going to have a good outcome.
Ned’s hobby was a surprising shocker in a good way!!
The rest of the crew is still a hoot..especially Mega
