When Aoi's family goes on a glamping trip over summer vacation, it could be the opportunity Aoi needs to sort out her growing feelings for Sena. That is, until her mom invites Sena to come along! Being in such close proximity with Sena is the last thing flustered Aoi needs, but it might be an opportunity for the two to grow closer before a class seat change tears them apart again. Maybe Aoi's new seatmate, a cool, gorgeous girl with rumors swirling around her, will distract her from heartache for a bit?
"I want to change more. I still have a lot of growing left to do. I'm really grateful for all your help but next time, I want to stand on my own two feet."
I continue to love this series so much, and very much touched by Aoi's growth in this volume specifically! She continues to be blunt to Sena, BUT! There is a scene where we really see her speak her thoughts as to why she wants to grow and what she wants to see as a result of that growth. I've been cheering for her since the start, but my heart definitely went out to her, and I felt a renewal of wanting to cheer for her all the harder!
I really liked the last chapter and being able to see things from Sena's perspective because it really opens up in showing how genuine his feelings are for Aoi. I think they were genuine since he first started realizing he had feelings for her, but seeing him NOT wanting other guys to notice how cute she is made me giggle because he has fallen HARD for our girl!
The story progression was perfect, and I was really excited to see more of this new character! She reminds me so much of Yoi in the beginning of In the Clear Moonlit Dusk, and now wishing we had more girls like them that are "handsome" and proud of it (or at least this new character is proud to be called that)!
Overall, another very good volume that left me feeling extremely giddy afterwards! I can't wait to read what happens next!!
You probably won’t find another shojo manga where the mom is discussing with her son who’d be the uke or the seme if he decided to start dating the male lead instead of her daughter, I grant you that.
This continues on being a pretty interesting shojo, largely based on how it takes the normal path, but has some really fun detours along the way (see above). And two leads who love being miserable. Regular narratives that know to change a couple things can be very effective, case in point.
Sena and Aoi are both very, very awkward, yet also crazy about one another, which makes for a lot of dithering and drama that doesn’t need to be, but also kind of does. It turns out that Sena is a lot more like Aoi than she thinks too.
So she feels she wants to stand on her own two feet before she can say anything, while he figures that Aoi’s many charms can’t remain unnoticed forever. So he worries she’ll find a guy, she worries he’ll find a girl, complications accomplished. All in the name of personal growth, so I’ll allow it.
And they’re very enjoyable together, even if Aoi still feels that Sena could never be interested in her. The real statement is that he could hardly be more interested in her; I especially enjoyed the flashback that showed how he came to meet her and the many moments where he’s clearly falling hard for her.
The other big change is Aoi’s determination to make new friends and we get the very fun introduction of Miyaji. She took time off school due to an abortion rumour and her junior high image as a long-haired maiden is nothing like her high school persona.
Miyaji turns out to be a great addition to the series, as the traditionally more masculine-presenting female who charms the entire female population in short order. You will win precisely zero points for recognizing when that princess carry is about to show up.
What’s really great is that it deals with that rumour and doesn’t make a big deal about it. No, it’s just a case of the high school rumour mill being wholly stupid and out of control. She and Aoi even talk gender identity and periods entirely without bombast! It’s wonderful.
I also like that our leads aren’t perfect people. Aoi gets herself into a snit when she thinks Sena might have dated Miyaji, just going full-on with her assumptions. Later, Sena is being overly critical over Aoi’s hair showing off too much. Both of them course correct without being too awful about it, which threads a delicate needle quite adroitly.
The romance itself is pretty straightforward, but when you give both leads some personality and surround them with a slowly evolving cast that has lots of potential and has already done plenty? It makes the whole thing a pleasure to read.
There is no diary anywhere in this story, however, in case that was going to be a deal-breaker. Don’t try and suggest the story is the diary, that doesn’t make sense!
4 stars - on the one hand, very traditional, yet on the other, utterly different. Somehow the two sides blend together into something that’s actually really impressive as a whole.
Sorpresa, sorpresa apareixen feelings inesperadament Molt cuqui!!!
Aoi’s making friends! Miyaji seems like she was misunderstood in middle school and is now trying not to draw attention to herself in high school (but it’s kinda not working lol).
I loved the flashbacks to Sena meeting Aoi and what he thought of her. Her brother is such a sweet and funny character.
And of course, the ending?!? Omg yay Sena!!!! I loved how he realized how he truly felt and decided to just tell her!!!
I really liked this volume. She wants to better her self socially and sure romance is part of it but the friendship angle was front and center here, I liked that a lot. And I like that he confessed, that he likes her for who she is not because she is changing. The back ground with her brother was really sweet too, I loved seeing how much he cared and appreciated her from that outside POV. loved this volume.
"I hope you don't get so close to Miyagi-san. I want to get closer first."
Cleopatra who? Elizabeth who? I only know one queen - Aoi - and I only stan her. Just kidding. But this exchange made me crack up eventually leading to a loud bout of laughter the more I thought about it. This story is pretty unique for a Shoujo manga and I'm loving every bit of it.
This manga is so perfect. It’s got all the best parts of Shoujo: a male who is slowly figuring out he loves the female lead, a female lead who really wants friends but has social anxiety, and some of the best supporting characters ever!
I wasn't that convinced at the first about this series because of the art style but OMG IT HAS GROWN ON ME!!! TE CONFESSION AT THE END!!! I CANT ANYMORE 😭💓💓💓💓
