*Finding Anna*

**3.5 Stars**

This story follows a people pleaser who’s always adapted to her fiancé’s needs, losing herself in the process. I’ve learned that doing so is exhausting and you’ll always let someone down. Overcommitting myself was not even funny. I’ve since learned to say no, which is liberating and protects me. This is what Anna is learning to do and be unapologetically herself.

Anna, facing a fertility battle, reaches her current disappointment. Her fiancé leaves, leaving her feeling lost. This jolt prompts her to change jobs and move away from London to the countryside.

Anna lands a job at the fictional Stonemore Estate in Northumberland. Her best friend Fi, who suggested the job, works there too. Anna’s role is rewilding the estate.

She hasn’t met the boss, Jamie, the Earl who inherited the estate. He’s offish and her favourite thing about him is his energetic beagle, Hugo. Whenever they meet, she calls him out on his behaviour.

There’s Callum, a very attractive man, but Anna sees him as a possible fling only and ditches the idea and focuses on her work.

Things get complicated when Jamie’s ex tries to muscle back into his life and lord it over the staff. Anna also has to deal with a prickly member of staff. Meanwhile, Anna’s ex tries to reunite with her, but Anna handles him well, despite in the past she would have done anything to get him back.

As readers, we can see what’s coming, it’s not smooth sailing. I would describe it as a light read with substance. Anna’s best friend Fi’s fertility journey and concerns are handled sensitively and touchingly.

Anna’s mission is to restore Stonemore’s reputation, which is crumbling like old buildings do. As for romance, I enjoyed the story and sat back and watched it all play out.

I must say I enjoyed the cast of characters some were hilarious, especially when one person gets their comeuppance.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an eArc.

After a disastrous day turns her life upside down, Anna Whitlock leaves her city life—and her demanding fiancé Sean—behind to start fresh at the remote Stonemore Estate in Northumberland. Amidst her rewilding job, she finds distraction in Callum, the charming estate manager, and Hugo, an adorable beagle. But tension—and undeniable chemistry—with Jamie, the enigmatic estate owner, complicates things. As Anna tries to break her people-pleasing habits, she faces a choice: follow her heart or stick to her new boundaries. Can she learn to say yes to what truly makes her happy?

The synopsis of this book intrigued me so much and sounded so good!
I really enjoyed the story of this book and had a great time reading it! It was a great slow burn romance that had me intrigued on every page, however, I thought the pacing just after being halfway point of the novel was a bit disjointed but the ending tied it all together nicely.
I would recommend this book for anyone that enjoys;
slowburn romance
Grumpy x sunshine
He falls first
Cute little dogs in the story
Stories set in the British countryside

Before I get into my review, I want to give a huge thank you to NetGalley, Simon & Schuster UK, and Sophie Loxton for giving me an eARC of this fabulous book!
I had high hopes going into this after reading the blurb, and it did not disappoint - Anna is the ultimate people-pleaser, who has just had her world turned upside down by some devastating news, but throwing herself into a ‘rewilding’ project might be just the thing to help her really find herself…
Throw in a couple of handsome men, an adorable beagle, and some wonderful friends/colleagues, and you have everything you need for a slow-burn romance, full of heartwarming moments (and some emotional upheaval), which also happens to be set in the beautiful Northern England countryside!
The writing was engaging, the character building was lovely, and I honestly felt like I learned a lot about natural ecosystems, forestry management, and wildflowers.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and think it is a great debut novel - if you’re interested in reading it yourself, the UK release date is 08/05/2025!
*Please do check the trigger warnings before reading, as this storyline does centre around the topic of infertility which I know can be upsetting for some people. However, I would like to say that I think the author managed the subject in a very compassionate and respectful way.*

Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC

When Anna is dumped by her fiancé, she leaves London behind and heads to Stonemore to help rebuild their gardens and eco system. Of course the Lord of the Manor is grumpy and so starts their grumpy x sunshine relationship.
This had lots of elements I loved, the conflict between the two main characters, slow burn, closed door romance, but it was just lacking something for me. I didn’t love the characters or really the writing style. Was a sweet story though

Many thanks to NetGalley, Sophie Loxton and Simon and Schuster UK for supplying an ARC in return for an honest review

📚 When people pleasing Anna receives some life changing news, her world is turned upside down. Deciding to leave her life in London for a fresh start, Anna accepts a job and moves to Northumberland where she meets grumpy, ‘posh boy’ Jamie. Things get off to a rocky start but can they put their differences aside and work together?

⭐ Wild About You is heartwarming, cosy and altogether a beautiful read. The story touches on sensitive subjects with compassion and understanding all whilst being heartfelt and uplifting. The characters are relatable and although some of the topics mentioned are tough, the book was still lighthearted and funny in places. One of the characters, Tobias, had me laugh out loud at times. Everyone needs a Tobias at work!

My only issue was that it was a very slow burn and then a lot happened in the final few chapters, but overall, I really enjoyed Wild About You and would highly recommend giving it a read. Just make sure to check the trigger warnings first!

I loved Wild About You which is the story of Anna, making a big move from London to beautiful Northumberland following the breakdown of her relationship with Sean. She takes a position on the Stonemore Estate owned by grumpy yet gorgeous Earl, Jamie. She is tasked with rewilding parts of the estate and is relishing the challenge and the possibility of a fresh start.

Infertility and difficulties starting a family are important themes in this book. These are essential parts of the storyline, not just touched upon lightly. These parts of the narrative are thought provoking and moving, and crucial to understanding Anna and her relationships. It is told with real sensitivity although some people may, of course, find it a difficult subject to read about.

There are so many wonderful characters in the book, such as Anna’s lovely friend Fi and her sister Rose. Staff at Stonemore include Tally, Callum and Tobias and there’s a potential love interest going on too. I particularly liked Roshni, Jamie’s sister in law, who was incredibly clever and sharp as a tack. Then there’s characters you’ll love to hate: I present Jamie’s ex Lucinda and Anna’s ex Sean! And of course, there’s Hugo, Jamie’s beagle, who you can see on that vibrant front cover.

I found it so interesting to read about rewilding. Contrary to what some of the locals thought, it’s not just throwing around some wild flower seeds but requires careful planning of planting the right things in the right place, controlling non native plants and reintroducing native species. It was a quite fascinating part of the story.

And of course there is a lovely love story at the heart of the book. It is clear who Anna is wild about and that they are wild about her too. However, there are many obstacles to overcome and one thing I liked about this book is that there was clear communication, no misunderstandings between the characters. Some serious discussions took place which made this feel like a very real relationship.

Wild About You is a fabulous book, just right when you want a proper and believable romance which touches on some serious issues but will leave you with a smile on your face. I look forward to seeing what Sophie Loxton writes next.

This romance novel embraces both the joy of rewilding nature and also rewilding your heart. London-based Anna has always been a ‘yes’ person - saying yes to all the normal life and career opportunities that women are meant to take. But when it becomes apparent that Anna is unable to have children, her uncaring fiance decides that she’s a definite no for his future - and, in turn, Anna learns the power of walking away from a past that no longer serves her. She says no to London life and her corporate career - and takes a gamble on accepting a new role as a rewilding manager at the Stonemore Estate in Northumberland.

Fortunately, her best friend, Fi, already works at the estate and she helps to settle Anna in. But Fi isn’t the only person keeping an eye on Anna - two suitable suitors appear on the horizon: the handsome and carefree estate manager, Callum, and the engimatic and alluring Earl of Stonemore, Jamie. Anna may suddenly find it a lot harder to say no - but, ultimately, only one of them wins her heart.

From the perspective of a childless reader, this is a story to fall in love with. Not only are we presented with a well-balanced, lovable character who we can relatably see working through her childlessness and coming to terms with not being a mother, we see her setting out on a new life with a new sense of self. There is no feeling that Anna’s story should end with her childlessness - it’s what come afterwards that matters and it’s not shown as something that should define her. Whilst romance novels by their nature focus on the warm and glowing aspects of life, it is a welcome change to find such a realistic yet positive portrayal of a childless woman in this genre. Sophie Loxton has created a beautiful portrait - one that reinforces how important it is for non-parent writers to reclaim our literary representation and reveal our real selves.

When Anna is dumped by her fiancé after finding out some devastating fertility news (Check trigger warnings) she take a job working on a rewilding project at a Northumberland manor owned by one of the county’s most eligible bachelors Jamie - an Earl who is hot and emotionally unavailable.

This was a perfect cute and cozy read with a heart wrenching slow burn, grumpy x sunshine romance.

The setting was beautiful and idyllic, I loved the relationships between all the staff members - Tobias especially had me laughing out loud.
It took about 20% for me to get into the story but from then on I was gripped and finished it in one sitting.

Thank you to NetGalley, Simon and Schuster UK and Sophie Loxton for the eARC!

An enjoyable opposites attract romance between an environmental expert and the earl of the estate she works at.
Anna is dumped by her long term boyfriend after finding out some news and decides to take a job on a Northumberland estate to help rewild it. Jamie is the grumpy Earl who is secretly impressed with her.
Throw in a slight love triangle / square and you get fun main story with a deeper storyline underneath covering infertility/IVF.
I really liked how Anna grew as a person throughout the book and how Jamie was super sweet even though they rubbed each other up the wrong way.

Thanks to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster UK for the eARC (out 8th May 2025).

I'll begin by saying that this book made me feel warm and fuzzy and kicking/screaming because it was like a little slice of home. Barbour jackets! Wellies! Bothies! Rugged Northumbrian countryside! Good boy doggos! Stormy weather! Wood fires! It was giving Belsay/Wallington/Cragside vibes and I was absolutely living for it. It's genuinely lovely to read something set in our little pocket of the big, wide world.

FMC Anna is a recovering people-pleaser who decides to move from London to Northumberland following a hard break-up. She's an environmentalist, garden designer and rewilding expert that quickly secures a job working on a large estate, overseen and owned by a grumpy, slightly aloof Lord of the manor (Jamie) and his doggo (Hugo). The book spans over a year (we're talking sloooooooow burn) and follows Anna's interactions with said Lord and a number of other fun characters that also live and work on the estate (best friend Fi, people's princess Tally and Scottish hunk Callum). The timescale also allows us to see some of her wilding projects come to fruition, which was actually really nice to see.

The front cover says fun, cute, cosy romance book with a hint of love-triangle (which is all well and good), but it also felt like quite a mature read. Friendships are just as important (if not more so) than the core romantic relationships and I was pleasantly surprised to find the miscommunication trope kicked to the wayside. Adults are actually capable of having adult conversations (when they're not just actively avoiding each other!) It also deals with matters of familial duty and mental health and grief in thoughtful, respectful ways. Anna's struggle to have children is integral to her journey, so do be warned if that's a potential trigger.

The only thing that let Wild About You down for me was pacing. We get a lot of info dumping in the first 10% and the last 10% felt too hurried. I needed longer with the characters actually INTERACTING for the ending to feel justified. Everything between those two points was wonderful, I just wanted more of it!

Highly recommended if you also love slow burn romance and YEARNING (we're so back).

ARC review: 3.75/5
Your absolutely classic of grumpy x sunshine & enemies to lovers story. Although there were those tropes, I felt it was more that and setting (&background storyline) was quite unique. Secondary plot line of the relationships with the other characters was also well done, where
I warmed to the characters and definitely felt the relationship dynamics were realistic. Thanks to the publisher and net galley for my ARC

"Wild About You" is a delightful escape for a cozy weekend!!

This heartwarming story, though tinged with moments of heartbreak, captivated me from the very first page. I found myself completely immersed in the plot, losing track of time as I devoured every word.

I adored all the characters, but Hugo, the rambunctious beagle, stole my heart. Anna Whitlock is incredibly relatable, and her journey of self-discovery and growth was lovely to read. Jamie Mullholland, the quintessential grumpy heart throb with his occasional glimpses of vulnerability were kryptonite to my superman. I loved them all!!!

The novel doesn't shy away from exploring the emotional ups and downs of fertility and IVF, which i found both moving and relatable.

The only thing I think was missing from this book, was a few more chapters at the end! However, I might just be slightly addicted to the characters at this point...

If you enjoy forced proximity tropes, grumpy sunshine romances, and slow-burn relationships, "Wild About You" is an absolute must-read.

You I’ll fall in love with the British countryside and beagles! But how Anna and Jamie fell in love I’m not sure?! They make up about 25% of the story and I can’t really see how they develop such strong feelings for each when half the time they’re not even talking or acknowledging each other.

All the characters are interesting and have complete stories, Anna our FMC is going through a lot and when she restarts her life at Stonemore you follow her journey and that is a really well written story.
Jamie our MMC is likeable enough but I didn’t feel like we really got to know that much about him until nearer the end.
This is a chick lit with romance on the side in a nutshell.

I received this book as an ARC and provide an honest review.

Had the pleasure of being given and advance copy of Wild About You through NetGallery.

A beautifully written story that is based in a lovely part of the UK, which I enjoyed more as I was able to picture the scenery in more detail, particularly when it is an area I have visited myself.

Anna Whitlock has had her heart utterly broken in two by her Fiancé, after they both receive heart-breaking news, which changes the dynamics of their relationship and so part ways. She then decides to leave the hustle and bustle of London and start over again by moving to the wild and rugged moorlands of Northumberland to be near her best friend Fi, and start work on an environmental project at a Stately Home.

Anna soon settles in, starts getting to know her colleagues, particularly Callum, who she takes a shine to and hopes that she can get to know him better. But although she likes Callum, and he seems to be taking an interest in Anna, it is her grumpy and moody boss Jamie Mulholland that gets her blood boiling in more ways than one. Every time they are together, he frustrates her and she can't seem to do anything right in his eyes. But then she begins to realise he looks at her in a certain way and helps when circumstances arise, and from then on she can't resist him any longer.

But as they become closer, Anna realises she cannot move forward, because of her particular circumstances, and so she starts to makes certain decisions, but are they the right ones? She was always the 'Yes' Girl to everything put in front of her whilst in London, but since moving to Northumberland, she is determined to change this and start saying 'No', but is she saying 'No' to the right things, and through doing this, could it break her heart again?

Loved all the Characters, particularly Hugo 🐶. Just loved how Jamie looked out and cared for Anna, even though she didn't realise it, and you could feel the tension between throughout every time they were in the same space and you just wanted to scream at them because of the way they were acting around each other.

❤️Slow Burn
❤️Grumpy (very) x Sunshine
❤️Getting over an Ex
❤️Making a New Start
❤️Close Proximity
❤️Work Colleagues / Boss
❤️He falls first and hard 🥰
❤️Small Town Romance
❤️Not good enough for each other (her in particular)

This book was an utter delight to read - it was unputdownable, and I would quite happily read it again and again.

First there is the review in Italian then the English one –
Prima c'è la recensione in italiano poi quella in inglese
4,5
Letto in inglese.

4.5
Read in English.
It got me right away. It seems like a mix of irony, contrasts, and brutal reality. It shows the effects of bad experiences and trauma, but the interesting thing is that the protagonists are people who recover after trauma.
Anna discovers she cannot have children and her boyfriend leaves her because of this: she is devastated and decides to leave London and her job and accept a position as a renaturalization manager in northern England. The job is exciting but involves some relationship problems...
If Anna was previously a yes woman, “Full confession: before that door closed, I was the type of person who said yes to everything”, after this setback she wants to change her ways, and in fact: “My personal favourite of the grieving stages was anger”, but it's not enough for her to decide to stop pleasing others in order to actually stop doing so.
The male protagonist is Jamie, the earl who owns the land that is to be returned to its wild state: Anna meets him and describes him as follows: My first thought of the gate was – he’s hot. The second thought was – he’s grumpy”.
Excellent, therefore, for learning to stop pleasing others...

Anna Whitlock arrives at Stonemore Estate after her relationship with her husband, Sean, has collapsed. Newly single, new job, so, naturally, it's time for a new beginning, right? In the midst of all these changes, Anna's trying to work out who she is when she's no longer shaping herself around other people’s expectations. While her move to Northumberland gives the story its gorgeous countryside backdrop, I liked the parallel between the rewilding project and her own emotional life: messy, uncertain, a bit overgrown in places, but full of possibility once she stops trying to keep everything neat and acceptable to everyone else. So along the pages, the estate quickly becomes a proper little world, with Fi offering her a point of safety, Rose bringing in the family thread, and characters like Callum, Roshni, Tally and Tobias making Stonemore feel lived-in rather than decorative. I could move there! And then, of course, there is Hugo the beagle, who behaves as though he's been personally contracted to cause chaos and steal every scene.

Now, let's talk about Jamie, the owner of Stonemore. I saw him as a man whose guardedness is tightly tied to the estate itself. He doesn't brood in the background, that would have been still very attractive. He adamantly resists Anna’s arrival and doesn't miss an opportunity to challenge her work every chance he gets. On the other hand, Callum offers warmth, hot chocolate, and the safer kind of attention Anna from before would have gravitated around. But Jamie is there and he unsettles Anna because he forces her to stop performing niceness and actually hold her ground.
Their connection builds through friction, brutal honesty, and those little moments where they both have to say the difficult thing rather than hide behind misunderstanding. You cannot 'not love' Jamie, even if you try very hard.

Now, it's worth mentioning that the story touches on very serious topics, which Sophie Loxton warns about at the beginning. It explores Anna’s grief around infertility, IVF, people-pleasing, and self-worth. I think it was the perfect contrasting setting, it made the love story less about Anna being rescued and more about learning to choose herself, and then choosing someone who sees her fully. It's tender, cosy, emotionally grounded, and much more layered than I expected from what first looked like a countryside romcom.

Sophie Loxton’s Wild About You is a captivating and heartfelt story that explores the journey of new beginnings, self-discovery, and the complexities of love. After splitting up with her fiancé, Anna takes a job rewilding the Stonemore Estate in Northumberland, hoping for a fresh start. However, she quickly realizes that the biggest challenge isn't just the rewilding project – it’s her sexy but emotionally unavailable boss, Jamie, who seems determined to make her life as difficult as possible.
As Anna navigates her new life, she finds solace in the friendship of her best friend Fi and the charm of Callum, the estate manager. A budding romance with Callum offers hope, but Anna's thoughts continue to be drawn to Jamie, creating her own internal complicated love triangle.

What sets Wild About You apart is the novel also touches on the emotional rollercoaster of IVF, capturing the pain, frustration, and hope that come with the journey. This layer of the narrative adds a raw and powerful dimension to the story. Loxton’s portrayal of IVF struggles feels both authentic and compassionate, showing the emotional toll it can take while also highlighting moments of strength and resilience.
The rewilding project itself serves as a beautiful metaphor for Anna’s journey of self-reinvention. Against the stunning backdrop of Northumberland, Loxton seamlessly intertwines the story’s romantic tension with Anna’s personal growth, as she slowly learns to put herself first and stop people-pleasing. The lighthearted moments, including her playful relationship with the adorable beagle Hugo, provide a welcome balance to the more serious themes, while the slow-burn romance and will-they-won’t-they tension between Anna and Jamie keep readers on the edge of their seats.
Wild About You is a beautiful exploration of love, loss, and the difficult choices we make in pursuit of happiness. Sophie Loxton’s writing is engaging, and her ability to blend humor, romance, and deeper emotional themes will resonate with anyone who’s ever faced life’s challenges head-on. For those who enjoy stories of personal transformation, complex relationships, and the search for true love, this novel is a must-read.

Anna moves from London to Northumberland to work at a stately home alongside her best friend, Fi. There she meets the lord of the manor, Jamie, but they take an instant dislike to each other. Jamie is stuck up and rude when Anna tries to work with him on the rewilding project she was brought in for but he doesn't make it easy and Anna finds herself snapping back at him.

It's clear from the beginning that Jamie is attracted to Anna, but there is never really a point when he lets her in and tells her what it's been like for him, wanting to be close to her but trying to keep a distance between them and not allowing himself to feel something for her.

Anna on her part, finds him attractive, but doesn't really like him until she's spent more time with him and caught glimpses of the real Jamie before he shuts it down again.

So when they get trapped together during a storm I thought Jamie would finally tell Anna how he feels about her but he didn't. Though, he did open up to her about his childhood a little, he never actually said anything to her about his feelings for her. It was inevitable that something would happen while they were trapped and the most he says is he's wanted this for so long.

I'm not surprised Anna pushed him away after their second night together, she was still hurting from her break up and didn't want to put Jamie in a position that would end up with him resenting her later on but at the same time, it wasn't her choice to make for him. At the very least she should have asked him to take some time to think about what being with her would mean.

I thought this book started out great and I loved the slow burn between Anna and Jamie but then the ending was ridiculously rushed and it ruined it a bit for me. When they both finally come to their senses it all plays out in a matter of a few sentences then straight into an epilogue. I felt like it lacked a connection between the characters that had been there in the rest of the book.

Thanks to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster UK for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

After splitting up with her fiancé & ready for a new start, Anna takes a job rewilding the glorious Stonemore Estate in Northumberland. But when she arrives the only thing driving Anna wild is her boss: the sexy, but emotionally unavailable Jamie, who is hellbent on making Anna’s job – and her life – as difficult as possible. On the plus side, there’s Callum, the gorgeous estate manager, her best friend Fi, and an enthusiastic beagle called Hugo. When romance with Callum blossoms, is Anna’s resolve to stop people-pleasing about to falter? And why can’t she stop thinking about Jamie? Can she truly put herself first and say yes to the thing which will make her happiest, falling truly madly wildly in love…?

This book came at the perfect time as I really needed something to put a smile on my face and wow, this book fulfilled this need 100%!

I absolutely adored the author’s writing style, it was so embracing, I instantly fell in love with Anna and her quest to escape the difficulties life had thrown her. Without giving anything away, there are issues discussed in this book which affect so many people but are often ignored, the author has truly excelled by the inclusion of these elements, in an appropriate and sensitive manner.

Did I know what was going to happen? Yes, but it didn’t matter, the journey to reach the conclusion was well worth it, leaving me with a smile on my face and a warm fuzzy feeling inside. And how can we not mention the star of the show in this title, Hugo the beagle! He was indeed an instant hit and yes, I agree totally with Anna, dogs are better than people!

If you want an easy going, fun loving read that is guaranteed to put a silly grin on your face whilst you read, then look no further, your search is over! A debut read that doesn’t disappoint!

Wild About You by Sophie Loxton 📕

💫’Shall we sit down over here?’ he said, going over to the dining-room table and pulling out a chair for me with elaborate good manners. Then his expression changed sharply. ‘Sit,’ he barked. I sat down, just about stifling the ‘bloody hell’ that rose to my lips. ‘I was speaking to Hugo,’ Jamie said.

Anna, recently separated from her fiancé and wanting a new start, takes a job at Stonemore Estate in Northumberland. She soon settles well into the job role except for one thing, her boss, Jamie. They clash heads almost instantly and his emotional unavailability adds to the conflict. Anna needs to learn how to put herself first and figure out why she can’t stop thinking about Jamie.

My review 📖:

I was hooked on this book from only a few chapters in and did not want to stop reading.

The way the books written makes it so easy to follow the story. I instantly connected to and liked all of the characters. The main protagonists- Anna and Jamie - were enjoyable to read and I giggled throughout. The build up of the relationships between all of the characters is wonderful and believable.

I really enjoy reading small town, close proximity, slow burn romances and this one did not disappoint whatsoever.
Not only is this a wonderfully romantic and cute story, it also tackles several important and deep issues such as infertility, IVF and the social ‘class’ hierarchy, which gives the storyline a lot of depth and substance.

I did not want the book to end! Will be buying a copy for myself when it’s released and definitely will be reading it again!
Looking forward to reading more from Sophie.

Thank you @simonschusteruk and @net-galley for the eARC.
