A dark force threatens the realm of Aetherian, hiding in the shadows for centuries, waiting for this moment.
Plotting. Manipulating. Seizing power.
And now the only one strong enough to stand against it is being held captive within its grasp.
What would you do when you can no longer distinguish friend from foe? When the one who claimed you betrayed you first?
How far would you go to survive?
Harlowe
I have to escape. I cannot yield to this monster. I cannot be the ruination of our realm. I don't know who to trust or if I'll ever feel safe again. All I know is that the man with the soulful brown eyes that haunt my dreams will either be my strength or my destruction.
And he’s hunting me.
Silas
I made a mistake. I put my faith in the wrong people, and I lost everything. I refuse to give her up, however. She is mine and I’ll never let her go. I'll burn the entire realm to get her back. She is my obsession, and I will destroy anyone who gets in my way. Including her.

This is the second book in the series. The author hasn't said if it's a trilogy or more books. This ends on a cliffhanger, you need to read the books in order and I'm assuming you will need to read the trilogy? I don't know how many books to get to the HEA.
Update- at the back of the book the author says- ' I hope you can all join me for book three, and the conclusion of Harlowe’s story, A Queen of Fire and Flame, later in the year. Happy Reading!'
This book starts exactly where the first one ended.
The plot is good but I am very frustrated that despite creating a whole world, history, some of the characters have unusual names, there is a map and a pronunciation guide yet there feels to me as though there is a lack of imagination regarding language. Even using terms that relate to our lives, 'ballpark figure' or something like that. These characters have huge cultural differences and part of their customs are secrets from outsiders yet they all use the same profanity and didn't appear to have any issues communicating, no misunderstandings regarding use of terms etc.
I appreciate the author appears to be new but for me it spoilt the story. That and not knowing how many books are in a series.
Warning from the author.
This story is intended for mature readers only and contains controlling behavior by the MMC towards the FMC, explicit sexual content, dubious consent, sexual assault, drugging, profanity, depictions of violence, and other topics that may be triggering for some readers. Reader discretion is advised.

Picking up right where Book 1 left off, A Daughter of Fire and Flame takes off running and doesn't let up! What can you expect?
A villain who brings out the "But I could fix him" feelings, even though he is despicable. Dragons! So many dragons!! A BFF who is ride-or-d!e Spice that'll melt the ice cubes in your drink
K.J. Johnson doesn't pull punches, so be prepared to laugh, cry, and keep a fan handy to cool yourself off!
Tropes: - Possessive alpha-hole - Touch her and die - Will burn the realm for her - Found family - Feminine rage - Touch him and die - Enemies to lovers - Elemental magic - Unknown enemies - Dragon riders - Spicy romantasy
A Daughter of Fire and Flame is book two of the Fire and Flame trilogy. It is a fantasy romance which ends on a cliffhanger. The series will conclude with A Queen of Fire and Flame.
A Daughter of Fire and Flame continues the adventures of Harlowe, the title character, and Silas, dirty talking General of the Cathal (dragon riders).
K.J. Johnson has built a rich world in the realm of Aetherian full of ruthless enemies, scary forests, ferocious creatures and dragons.
The dragons may very well be my favourite characters. Their personalities really shine through in this second book and they are cheeky and funny. Also very protective of Harlowe.
The spice in this book is spicy and frequent.
I really enjoyed this book and I am looking forward to Harlowe and Silas’ HEA in the series finale, A Queen of Fire and Flame.
Thank you K.J. Johnson for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
This was action packed, emotion filled, dark and spicy. Our FMC Harlowe goes through some shit in this book but it really shows her strength. Silas the MMC also has a lot of grovelling to do after book 1 and I think he makes up for it. Love how Harlowe makes him work for it though!
While I adore Harlowe and Silas, I am so obsessed with Harlowes best friend Emmerson and the sneak peaks we get of her relationship with Cillian. She is an amazing side character and I love how the men notice her power and allow her control.
Went straight into book two after the cliffhanger of book one. I really enjoyed the friendships that were forged in this book few time you hurt me again with loss. I absolutely love the fight the FMC has in this one had me giggling at a few of her quips. I wish the dragons had a bit more fight but other then that loved it. Will definitely be continuing this series when the next one comes out.
I absolutely loved this book and could not put it down! It was action-packed and a real emotional roller coaster. I had to remind to remind myself that there was another book coming, and the author was unlikely to kill the heroine part way through the series 😅The heart palpitations were real people! I loved how the dragons played a bigger part in this book. They were hilarious, sassy and added another layer of excitement to the story. Emmerson was just as hilarious as she was in book one, so I wasn't disappointed. There was a lot more camaraderie between the characters this time around, and they all grew as a group, which I loved. There is one scene where this really played out, and I loved it!!! The book also didn't suffer from second book syndrome, and I ended up liking it more than the first. The smut was on point and more adventurous, keeping things interesting 😉 Overall, this book has set the stage for an epic conclusion, and I can't wait for the third book in this trilogy!
“So let me be your strength until you recognize it in yourself. The fates chose you for a reason, Fireheart.” . ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ . K.J. Johnson is such an incredible writer, I am absolutely obsessed with this series! The characters feel so full of life, so well developed, and I would give anything to be a member of the Cathal just to be friends with all of them. Reading Harlowe’s trauma in this book hurt my heart so deeply. Her pull to Kieran and the constant doubt it sows in her self worth and goodness feels so raw and real. Silas and Harlowe take such a huge blow in this book, and honestly I was yelling “GET OVER IT HE LOVES YOU” every single time she pushed him away and built her walls up higher. And of course, my favorite Hellcat Emmerson came back as chaotic and feisty as ever!! Just call me Cillian because she also has me wrapped around her delicate little finger.
I had the honour of being an ARC reader, after reading book 1 and I loved it! The characters really evolved, and those I wasn't so keen on certainly grew on me by the end. It's beautify written, and leaves you wanting more. The connection between the main character Harlowe and the dragons is an intriguing one, and I am excited to see what happens next with her. The characters themselves are well developed and written well, with the chemistry between the main characters easy, fun to read and realistic. Without giving too much away, I am excited to see what happens with the villain of the story, and what he does next, however, a twist right at the end threw in a whole other complication and another villain to look out for! Can't wait for book 3.
The start of this book had me hooked! But once Harlowe escaped from Netheran it was kinda unrealistic that they would have over a month of ‘downtime’ go train and this middle part of the book dragged a little.
When they go to find the Ancient and get attacked by Roc and also soldiers it Dogg really good again, I’m a sucker for the action. A lot of s3x, and the cave 😮💨Silas has some serious stamina. I also love the idea behind the relationship to the dragons and to the Ancient, that’s a very unique twist. And I love a fire welding badass. ‘Fire heart and little menace’ I’m also liking Cillian’s nickname for Em - Little Viper. Very very fitting
A poor Teller! First Cian and now Teller. Whyyyyy you break my heart
A great read. I did enjoy it overall and I am keen for book 3 :)

The plot is strong because the characters are well developed and you believe the choices that they are making. This along with the fast-paced action keeps you turning the pages.
The creativity and the world-building are impressive and new characters like 'The Ancient One' add depth to the history of the 'Realm' and its implications for Harlowe's fate (or is it free will?). I enjoy the blend of mythology, fairy tales, and contemporary sensibilities that are woven into the story.
This series had a lot of potential, a kick ass heroine, a best friend Emmersson who would fight by her side and had the best comebacks and awesome dragons. The story was good, but I got derailed by all the constant sex scenes and felt it was a bit like filler at times. That is just my opinion, and I was searching for a series like Fourth Wing, and this is not it. If you like a lot of gratuitous sex then this is the series for you. The dragons were pretty cool, too.
Things I didn’t like - the possessiveness males had over their “claimed” woman’s bodies… made me cringe and I had to skip some smut scenes as it was too much for my liking.
Loved - strong female characters (Emmerson is the best) -dragons -quick intense chapters -banter -overall story is great
Excellent follow up to the first book. I really enjoyed the character development in this one and I loved that we got to see more of the dragons and what they were capable of. It had plenty of action, romance and intrigue - everything I'm looking for in a fantasy romance read. Highly recommend.
I really enjoyed the first book but the second was better. The characters were more developed and we got to see more of the side characters. There was a lot of information in this book but it was done in interesting ways (like the og witch) so it wasn't just an info dump. Everything is set up for the third book and I can't wait for it!
