香港法庭絕大部分聆訊開放，讓司法程序公開於人前。但對於沒受過法律訓練的公眾，法律有時很複雜。
《法庭線》藉成立兩周年推出本書，嘗試從讀者關注角度，探討香港刑事審訊的程序、概念和原則，以及法律制度，輔以近年案例及新聞人物訪問，側面記錄因各種原因被牽扯進入法庭的人，與他們的故事。
「法律101」為《法庭線》欄目，定期刊出介紹香港刑事審訊程序、法律制度文章。
本書輯錄兩年來刊出的逾30篇文章，按主題排列整理，並加入最新案例重新編訂。

書名有咩意思？
書名「公民司法認知」，靈感來自法律原則「司法認知」（judicial notice）。在法庭上，這概念意指一些眾人皆知、普遍不受爭議、毋須證據下可確立的事情。
法官審案可運用「司法認知」，將一些事實納入推論。同樣地，大眾對香港司法制度、法律原則，也可以培養基本理解和認知，看懂在繁複程序背後，法律是如何實踐。

內容清晰全面，輔以近年案例，沒有法律背景的讀者都可以理解。貓貓插圖甚可愛。全書無錯字，很難得。

A very much needed book to lecture me on the very basic ideas of the judiciary system in Hong Kong. I have come to appreciate the beauty of the humans' collective effort in capturing justice with a universal system. It is indeed fascinating to witness the evolution of judiciary system to safeguard justice by logic, evidence, and fairness. To think that perhaps a slight change in the golden thread of presumption of innocence could have shifted our idea of justice fundamentally is a true testament to the wisdom of forebearers. For the wrongful punishment of the innocent is a worse evil than the wrongful release of the guilty.

I also like how many hard concepts are supplemented by real-life examples and interviews. I.e. voir dire, the admissibility of evidence, hearsay, confession & admission, the juror system, stay of proceedings, ONEBO, Legal Professional Privilege, Public Interest Immunity, types of witnesses, actus reus, mens rea, prima facie case to answer, alternative verdict, 87A for committal proceedings, 9P for bail hearing, caution, judicial notice, appeal system, and common law.

It is essential for all citizens to understand these basic concepts not only as conceptual tools to digest legal information or news but also as critical appraisal of our judicial system in its steadfastness in pursuing justice.

An excellent book that explains the basic concepts in the Hong Kong judicial system (with cute cat drawings :)) and how it is supposed to work before the CCP brutally murdered it.
