Nat Jacobs finds herself alone and far from home in a mirror world, where she is herself . . . and not. She can remember being nightmarishly wrenched away from her child, unbearable pain, and then nothing.
Traumatized and visibly scarred, dismissed as hysterical, irrational even—she finds others like her in a support group, all living lives of those wounded in terrible accidents that they can’t remember, taken from those they love with no explanation. And no hope of return. Or is there?
When an apparent saviour appears, claiming to have a remedy, some jump at the chance. But what if the cure is worse than the disease?

What an interesting idea for a book! Two separate women, both viciously attacked by the same (we think) strange beast, both waking up in lives that aren't theirs. I was hooked right from that first chapter!
Once again Breukelaar gives us astonishingly real characters in a fascinating alternative world. Visceral descriptions and masterful tension throughout. Absolute banger of a read, couldn't put it down - a one day read like much of Breukelaar's works. Lucky I had nothing on today.
Why aren't more people talking about this book?? It's wild. Two women are attacked (separate times and places) and when they come around, they find that they're not quite themselves, and they're not living their own lives either. So many questions, themes, and ideas, all rolled into one great story.
Across the globe, multiple individuals have popped up with scars on their bodies, their consciousness supplanted by souls from another world, a mirror world. “REMEDY” Is the latest novel by multi-award-winning, ex-pat Australian author, JS Breukelaar. Imaginative, evocative, and sumptuously written. Well worth your reading.
Horrifying and heartbreaking. Breukelaar's characters grapple with the question of how far they would go to get back to those they love. What risks are worth taking in a world where they don't know who to trust and where their very existance may put others in danger? A lot to unpack from a novella - this one will stay with you.
