BOOK 1: MURDER IN THE GALLOWGATE Detective Lola Harris returns from a miserable solo holiday only to find herself in charge of a high-stakes investigation. At the crime scene, there’s an old wooden chair and the rope hanging from its arms is stained red. Burned candles lend the scene an air of a completed ritual. And yet there is no sign of a body. Lola will have to work with the most obnoxious detective in Glasgow if she’s going to stop the killer from striking again.
BOOK 2: MURDER IN LOVERS’ LANE Detective Lola’s new personal trainer is merciless when it comes to fitness. As they run around a corner in peaceful Pollok Park, Lola glimpses something that shouldn’t be a high-end BMW. Doors gaping. And a man and a woman, roped together. The man is stiff, cold. The woman is unconscious — but alive. With similarities to an old Liverpool case, Lola’s now in a race against time to stop the killer before they return to finish what they started.
BOOK 3: MURDER ON THE CLYDE Detective Lola is heading back over the river from a rare night out when she spots a crowd of people looking over the parapet. Someone’s gone in. A witness swears it’s the work of the urban legend Clyde Pusher. A hooded figure with eight victims in five years. But according to the police, the Pusher doesn’t exist. While investigating, Lola’s higher-ups give her a rap on the knuckles. Someone is trying to derail the investigation. What are they trying to cover up?
The author is a Master of dialogue. You will be amazed at his capacity to deliver his plot through conversations rather than 3rd person pronouncements. I was disappointed at his first volume as he made a plot dump (similar to Poirot's pronouncements at the end of the novel). But his 2nd and 3rd volumes were first class works. He has good imagination, good descriptions. I very much enjoyed my time in his world.
Enjoyed the three books, the characters (particularly Lola) were believable, human, funny, and the story lines were good, strong and it wasn't easy to spot the baddie. More please.
This set of three stories one two and three is brilliant the characters seem real and they are good mysteries I really enjoyed all three of the books I brought them from Joffe books where I buy most of my e books .
Três livros tensos, narrativas policiais que lidam tanto com a solução de crimes como com questões psicológicas da protagoniza e as dificuldades que ela enfrenta sendo mulher em um mundo dominado pelo masculino.
