Hunter O’Connor is the bane of my existence.

When I set out to join Green Valley’s new volunteer firefighter team as a way to honor my late father, the last person I expected to find there was the heartthrob bad boy from high school. The one whose family was involved in certain… illegal pursuits. Even if it is seven years later, people don’t change that much. And I especially don’t expect him to remember me—or for him to have a grudge.

I swear I didn’t mean to get entangled in a prank war with him, but when it gets too out of hand, the fire chief lays down the law, forcing us to work together in order to redeem ourselves and make the team. There are only so many smirky quips this foul-mouthed guy with a reputation can make, though, before I discover the real Hunter. The one who’s nothing like I thought he was. And when all that attention is focused on me in a different way… sparks fly.

‘All Fired Up’ is a full-length contemporary romance and can be read as a standalone. Book #7 in the Green Valley Heroes series, Green Valley Chronicles, Penny Reid Book Universe.

I have loved all of this author’s books in the SmartyPants series as well as another series she had out on her own recently. And this book was once again a winner for me! I adored both characters. The enemies to lovers aspect was so well done in the beginning. The whole prank war was so much fun, even as I wondered what they would do to each other next. It actually was let go on longer than I expected at their volunteer fire fighter classes. But once they were told to stop, and then assigned to be partners, things got good.

Both characters had issues with their family, although Hunter’s were probably worse, seeing as his father and brother were in the Iron Wraiths. And while Madeline’s story hit a little close to home for me, except I’m probably more like her mom, lol, it was still a great storyline. The connection between Hunter and Madeline was really perfect as well. While normally I am irritated when characters think they aren’t good enough for someone, it was so easy to see why Hunter felt that way with his family, as well as his reading disability. I don’t think I’m giving a spoiler on that, because anyone who knows much about what he talks about with his problems with learning probably would have guessed it before Madeline even brought it up.

I love that both characters were able to take a stand, and instead of letting it come between them, they were able to figure things out maturely and realistically, even with heat of the moment misunderstandings or arguments. I liked that even Hunter’s ex-hook-up was a decent enough person in her own way. We got steamy times and we definitely got some swoony scenes!

Another great addition to the SmartyPants Romance Universe from Allie Winters!

Another brilliant Allie Winters story
5 stars

I’m a huge fan of Allie Winters so of course I jumped as soon as I knew she had a new book out. This one is set in a Penny Reid Book Universe and is book 7 in the Green Valley Heroes, multi-author series. Having never read Penny Reid (sorry, Penny) and none of the previous books in the series - I still very much enjoyed and understood this story. I think the books might all just be connected by a location and the fact that they feature firefighters as I couldn’t spot anyone else that might be a crossover character. Long story short - this book stands alone.

Our story centres around Hunter and Madeline - two very different people with seemingly nothing in common except that they’ve both signed up for the volunteer firefighter program. Their dislike turns into pranks which turns into an ultimatum of working together or failing the course. It’s then that our pair find out just who the other is and how much they might actually get along.

I love an enemies to lovers story but as I started to read this I realised - hey, they actually hate each other. Normally I’m seeing two people who are secretly in love - or at least lust. Nope. All the way hate. It really made me want to keep reading because I wanted them to like each other, dammit!

Madeline is the good girl. She’s an introvert who works from her childhood home, having moved back after college. Living with her still grieving mother, Madeline is determined to do something for herself and to honour her late firefighter father. She knows she’s not strong but she’s determined - and that was something I really liked about her. She might be introverted but she was spunky and gives as good as she got. I loved her when she was sparring with Hunter and even more so when they start to have feelings for each other. She was a really easy character to root for.

But Hunter was just something else. At first, much like Madeline, I wasn’t too fond of Hunter. He was a bit cocky, a bit arrogant and a whole lot sexy. But as we get to know him - his troubles and his past - he becomes such a well-rounded, likeable and sympathetic character. I just wanted to give him a big ol’ hug. It was kind of heartbreaking to see everything he’d gone through and yet still come out the other end as a decent man.

Hunter and Madeline’s story progressed so well over the course of the book. Each change felt natural and real. They went from hating each other to tolerating each other. Then getting to know more about each other to being absolutely perfect for one another. There was definitely sex as part of their relationship and while it was hot - it also felt perfect for them as a couple.

There’s something about Allie Winters’ writing that just pulls me in and keeps me focussed on the characters and their story. These people felt real for me and watching them flounder and panic on their way to falling in love was a joy. Finding someone you can be your real self with is the dream and this felt like reading that dream. And, strangely, it also made me want to workout. Despite that anomaly, this is a fantastic small-town romance with characters you really fall in love with and another brilliant book from Allie Winters.

We're back in Green Valley and the fire department is looking for volunteer fire fighters. Which puts Madeline and Hunter in orbit around one another. And these two couldn't be more different.

Well, that's not entirely true. Madeline overthinks everything and Hunter is more of a seat-of-his-pants kind of guy. At least that's how they seem on the surface. To be fair, Madeline really does overthink everything. She's smart and determined, but her intelligence is paired with a touch of social anxiety and a lot of internal self-doubt. Hunter, on the other hand, has been told his entire life that he's stupid. Which sucks because he's not, but he's internalized that and has his own self-doubt to contend with. His family is tied up with the Iron Wraiths and he's fighting to show the people of Green Valley that he's more than what his family is.

When the two are forced to work together to pass the fire fighter test, THINGS HAPPEN. Madeline sees Hunter's gentler side and Hunter sees that Madeline isn't nearly as snooty as he'd made himself believe. In the end, they make a good team who have one another's backs when things get dicey.

A few harmless pranks, complicated family dynamics, long study sessions, teamwork, a man who is more than he's been told, and a lady who works hard to succeed at everything she tries. MAN, I like spending time in Green Valley!

I loved this. Madeline wants to be a volunteer firefighter to honor her deceased father, and Hunter wants to distance himself from his criminal family. They knew each other in high school, and now their wrong ideas about who the other one is are getting in their way.

I read it basically cover to cover, and it ticked so many of my personal boxes. Rivals to lovers, a prank war that doesn't go too far, two leads that have personal journeys plus a great journey together, and lots and lots of time together on page. Their relationship felt so natural because it took them a while to get to know each other, and then to understand that their friendship could be the foundation for more.

This just satisfied me, like some book do. I kept waiting for something to not work, but everything that Allie set up worked out, and I was kicking my feet as often as I was smiling at how things were progressing. Hunter's learning disability was well handled, both of them had difficult things to work through with their families, and the firefighting journey felt realistic. It all just worked for me, and I would happily read it again, plus more from the author.

Opposites attract when a pair of pranksters are assigned to be partners as part of Green Valley’s volunteer fire department.

All Fired Up is the seventh book in the Green Valley Heroes series. This enemies to lovers romance can be read as a stand-alone. There is open-door content throughout the book.

There’s a lot of personal growth in this book that I wasn’t expecting. Both of the MCs come from complicated families and their outlet for that is being somewhat childish toward one another in the beginning. As they get to really know eachother better and become work partners, they seem to bond through the trauma and work to grow past it. The pace of their relationship is on the slower side but I think it needed to be so the MCs had time to get their individual stuff together.

I was so glad to see a new book from Allie Winters and she did not disappoint. I hope to see more Smartypants Romance books from her in the future.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I have been a big fan of this break out series, Green Valley Heroes, and this book fits right in.

We get a prank war that spins into a truce, and all the delicious tension!

This author has a way of writing MMC that you just want to love. Hunter has such a tough background, and love what he’s doing to forge a better future for himself. Both Hunter and Madeline do an excellent job of learning of their partner and supporting them.

Overall this was a fun fast paced read, and I really enjoyed it.

When author Penny Reid’s Smartypants Publication announces a new book, it’s on the TBR.

Such is the case here.

They’re mostly available on KU. If a r in love with the humor, the characters that are in her fictional world, it’s like a welcome hug back home. The authors vary as do their writing style. Most are hits. Some miss the mark.

This falls in the former category. A moment in the past frames the respective characters future interaction. Growth for whither characters and realistic ending in re- relationship with their immediate family members.

She is an extremely smart woman who is looking to honor her late father's memory by becoming a volunteer firefighter. He is the handsome guy from High School a decade ago that all the girls wanted, who just wanted an opportunity for a new life for himself.

Madeline lost her father who was a firefighter when she was a teen. Her new start with her mom moved her to Green Valley Tennessee to a whole High School of people she didn't know. After graduation she was able to get a degree but was forced to move back to help her struggling mother. Now able to work from home writing code she feels like she is in High School all over again isolated and lonely. When her mom suggests she go to the volunteer firefighter program she feels conflicting emotions but decides to do it to honor her father.

Hunter grew up in a toxic home. His father was a man involved in the corrupt local biker gang. School was tough for Hunter but he was athletic and took any opportunity to not be at home. As an adult he was able to get a stable job in the local mill where he can have his own home and separate himself from his family's reputation. In an effort to make something of himself, he decides to try out the local volunteer firefighter program.

Madeline cannot believe that rude jock from High School showed up at the fire department today. The audacity of him and his mocking attitude gets on Madeline's nerves.

Hunter is shocked to see the valedictorian from his high school at the fire department. She always thought she was better than he was because she was smart. Brains isn't going to be enough to put out fires and he is determined to prove it to her.

The pranking begins, bringing out an absolutely juvenile side of both Madeline and Hunter. After a warning from the fire chief the two are forced to work together if they are going to pass this training.

Somewhere along the way, the strong reactions of annoyance turn into something more like chemistry.

Dual POV, rivals to lovers, forced teammates, Dyslexia visibility, open door love scenes.

I almost gave up on this one. The ridiculous pranking in the beginning was a huge turn off for me. I like my MC's to feel like adults and not resort to childish pettiness. Once they moved past the issues and stopped the pranks the story got much better. The last half of the book was really charming. I loved the way Hunter thought of Madeline. Once they got on the same page they were really sweet. Nice HEA and Epilogue.

I was provided an ARC of this book via the author and Smartypants Romance, all opinions are my own.

This was a super fun opposites attract, enemies to lovers romance. As with all of the books in the series this can be read as a complete standalone. There are some characters present from other books in the series, however you don't need to read those before diving into this one.

This follows Hunter and Madeline as they train to be volunteer firefighters. They both have their reasons for signing up, and they both face challenges with the training. Madeline is book smart, while Hunter excels with the physical challenges. They went to high school together, and because his family is part of the local biker gang she always thought he was up to no good as well. Hunter does what he can to stay on the straight and narrow, but Madeline gets under his skin so he decides to knock her down a peg and a prank war ensues. The fire chief gets wind of their shenanigans and pairs them up for the remainder of the training with the stipulation that both of them pass or they both fail when it comes to test taking time. Naturally this frustrates both of them, but it forces them to face each other and air their greivances. In order to pass the exams at the end of training, they both have to help each other with what they are best at. Because they are spending so much time together, it gives them time to get to know one another and act on the attraction that has been building between them.

I thought Hunter and Madeline had great chemistry and banter. Hunter had an undiagnosed learning disability, which made him feel inferior and unworthy. Given his family situation that is understandable, and really unfortunate. Madeline on the other hand is very stubborn, she has a hard time accepting help and telling people when she needs something. She learns through training that she can't do everything on her own, and she has to be part of a team to be successful. It isn't failing if she asks for help or confronts someone. Both characters show great growth in this story. This has some great moments of levity mixed with humor from the pranks balanced with the romance.

This is another great addition to the Smartypants catalogue!

***5 ‘Truth or Dare’ Stars***

I loved this book. Ok, I kinda love most books in the Pennyverse, to be absolutely transparent, but while I’m not a huge fan of the whole enemies to lovers trope nowadays, I really liked how this one played out between Madeline and Hunter. The “enemies” part was really more playful and the transition to lovers was just done really well and had me not being so happy when there were no more pages to read.

While Hunter and Madeline did try me a bit at the start, it didn’t take long for me to love them. Madeline is logical and determined. She looks at all the angles and figures out what needs to be done, but she isn’t a robot. She’s sweet, snarky and just a bit sneaky. Hunter, once he lets his walls down, is a sweetheart. He’s protective, charming and when he decides to go for something, he’s all in.

Their journey starts out rough based on what they knew of each other as teenagers and while neither is entirely wrong, they soon find out that they are both more than they appear to be. I loved watching them become partners and friends and how they actually communicated with each other. Their bantering was a lot of fun, the chemistry between them HAWT and I was really happy that they got their HEA in the end.

This was a great addition to the series and world as a whole. There are issues that come up that could be sensitive for some readers, but I think they were handled well and necessary for the characters growth.

“It’s not about the thrill of the chase with you. It’s about you. Period.”

Allie Winters brings the heat in her new Smartypants Romance title, All Fired Up. This was the 7th book in the Hometown Heroes series and I loved it! Hunter O’Connor and Madeline Woodward are trainees in the volunteer firefighter program. When the bad boy from a biker family and the brilliant bookworm are reunited, sparks fly and competition flares. Hunter wants to break free of his family’s Iron Wraith ties and Madeline dreams of following in her father’s footsteps. When Hunter & Madeline are paired for training, high school hurts are healed and a bitter rivalry morphs into mutual respect and love. I adore Green Valley and its myriad quirky characters; Allie woven fun cameos and catch-ups into Madeline and Hunters HEA. I loved this close proximity, enemies-to-lovers, he-falls-first love story. Madeline and Hunter had lovely and heart wrenching backstories and their shared journey was charming. Allie reminds us that we need to live our truths and quit comparing our strengths to others. This powerful, angsty, swoon-worthy romance will melt your heart. If you love small-town romance, a hunky crunchy cinnamon roll, an endearing & brilliant book bestie, with caught in the rain hotness and hilarious prank wars, you need All Fired Up.

Hunter and Madeline each have their own reasons for wanting to become Green Valley volunteer fire fighters. Their animosity toward one another doesn't help either of them toward their goal when it leads to a prank war I liked having the dual POV because you get to see their strengths as well as insecurities that lead them to think the worst of one another initially. It was interesting seeing how their relationship changed and grew as they realized they were each nothing like the other thought.

I like Allie's writing style quite a bit, and this story flowed really nicely and hooked me from the beginning. I thought she did a nice job explaining the different aspects of being a firefighter through the training Hunter and Madeline do. This is a great addition to the Smartypants Romance world and one of my favorite books from this release cycle!

Thank you to Smartypants Romance and the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.

The pacing is rough. A lot of hot and cold, in an almost middle school way between(oh lord, I finished it 30 seconds ago and I can't remember their names) Hunter and Madeline(?). Which results in a whole lot of nothing in the middle- it's there, I read it. But it's a blur.

There is set up for a clichè dramatic blow up towards the end that does not happen- that I really appreciate. But the build up to it made me want to stop reading it.

You feel it coming, and you don't want to deal with it because it's so blahhh. Great news it doesn't explode. You can read the last chunk sans dread.

I really feel like these authors don't communicate with each other, despite writing in the same series. It ends up with the same plot devices being used over and over, and conflicting world building. A built in problem with multi author stuff I guess.

DNF 11%. I can’t with the “prank war.” There’s truly nothing that sets up that your book is about two assholes like some 5th grade pranks between adults. You’re both so desperate to get chosen as volunteer firefighters, maybe don’t act like absolute children then?

But even without the pranks, Madeline is a dick. “He strikes up a conversation with me about the price of eggs lately, which I assume is a hot topic at the Piggly Wiggly. Wish I’d brought headphones now.” Or this Republican talking point: “With too many people sue-happy nowadays, they probably didn’t want to open themselves up to a lawsuit for denying a woman the chance to try out.” “Sue-happy?” Really bitch? This some Fox News shit.

So I don’t care if these two immature assholes get together. I hope they do, actually. They’re the same level of insufferable.

This wasn't a bad book but it wasn't particularly great either. Enemies to lovers can be difficult for me because I can't get past how mean the characters can be to each other. Here they did a lot of pranking and I don't know that I could get past that and fall for someone who did those things to me so I didn't necessarily buy them getting togehter.

But there are lots of things about this book that did work for me. Particularly the way Madeline doesn't succeed at every aspect of being a firefighter and learns to focus on her strengths.

As always I love coming back to Green Valley and this was a well done addition to that universe.

An Enjoyable Enemies to Lovers Romance

I really enjoyed this book and it might be my favorite enemies to lovers troupe I've read in a while. Usually I have a hard time believing people can change feelings so quickly, but Hunter and Madeline just work and I love the immature pranks they play on one another and how the each have insecurities that the other helps them with. Allie Winter also addressed dyslexia in a way that made you think about the challenges it could present (while also angering this educator that teachers would not have helped someone more...even if they are fictional). Overall, a great read and I look forward to more books by Allie Winter.

All Fired up is an enemies to lovers romance about pranks and witty come-backs, about misconceptions and prejudices, but also about working hard for your goals and having the courage to live your life the way you want to live it. Our two main characters start off as enemies but when they are forced to work together to pass the training for Green Valley’s volunteer fire fighter team they realize they may have judged the other person too harshly.

This was a sweet and charming romcom – and a wonderful addition to the Green Valley series of books!

Hunter and Madeline started out as enemies, even tho she can't figure out why. They are both trying out for volunteer firefighters and they started out with a bang, pranking each other..until the man in charge decided that enough as enough and told them to partner up and help each other or else.
I really felt for them as family problems are not easy to navigate, especially when you have iron wraths in the family. Poor Hunter, all he wanted was to feel useful and be proud of himself.
I really liked both characters and enjoyed their story.

“It’s not about the thrill of the chase with you. It’s about you. Period.”

Another win from @AllieWinters because this had the perfect amount of enemies to friends to lovers with little pranks, helping each other out and eventually being each other’s “one” that understands it all💕

The background behind the dislike was pretty solid and I’m glad that we got to see these two go through different tasks, emotionally in their personal lives and literally while firefighter training.

I liked this. Although it didn't read like some of the other Penny Reid Book Universe. I liked how there was depth to the characters. I liked how the MMC didn't reconcile with his family because it made the struggle real. Only thing I didn't like is when the MMC talked about past hook ups. He was a player and felt the only thing he could contribute was his looks; but that still didn't mean I wanted to read any details of it.

good but…

I like the development of the relationship (enemies to lovers is my favorite trope) and how the MCs helped each other. I do wish there would have been more interesting/exciting family drama or maybe with the Iron Wraiths or even with the MCs fighting a fire together. Nothing that juicy and then the book just…ends. It was fine. No third act break up or ridiculous misunderstanding, which I appreciate, but I do wish there had been…more.

I really enjoyed this visit back to the Green Valley Universe. This was an enemies to friends/training partners to lovers story with some pranks, some teamwork and some tension. It was really well written and the fact that the two MCs at the start were so opposite to them finding friendship to more was so lovingly played out I couldn't help but root for them.

This was an amusing and satisfying read that was laced together with humor, delectable steam, and surprisingly poignant inner musings. Great chemistry. Love the banter, the story, the characters, the shenanigans. I may have skimmed some of the sex scenes, but I’m still rounding up from 3.5. I‘ll reread this. And I have a new author to try out.
