Okay, this little spoiled brat of man child went and slept with a woman he was friends because he was mad at his wife for the stupidest reason. She did spilt something or the other on an important client and he was convinced she did it on purpose,not even listening to her explanation, I don't even care, there is no reason in the world to cheat on your spouse, get a damn divorce first, the woman he slept with somehow got the pictures and sent it to his wife the next day, she ends up leaving, many years later they met up again because she was in a car accident, the car happened to be in front of the car he was driving.


This book is called, Winning Back His Wife, but What exactly did he do
to win her back, nothing, not a damn thing. He didn't try to find her
after she left, he had the money and resources, obviously he didn't
miss her or want her back as much as he claims.some might say she could have contacted him. but why? He is the one who messed up, the one who tore the family apart, it was on him to make the first move. He never once tried to find her, obviously he knew her best friends and knew she would go there, the jerk.

This woman was taking smack from him and his mother and he never once

stood up for her, when they first married, she was getting hell from them both. If he had a problem with the way she is about certain
things then he shouldn't have married her.

Then when she is back in his house because of medical reasons,they
jumped into bed, very quickly I might add, he tells her, the woman he
slept with had a baby by him, which wasn't true, but he cared more
about keeping a promise to that whore than giving his wife a peace of
mind. He would betray his wife in a heart beat, but not the slut he
slept with, the one who sent those pictures and destroyed his marriage, tearing his wife's heart out.

The whore turned up at their home and explained everything to her. Why
is that so great? It's not, it shows even after his wife left him he
was still in contact with her, keeping her secrets, but had no problem
ripping his wife's heart out. If I were his wife I would have slammed
the door in that slut's face.
I hate when authors do that, having the heroine talking to the woman the so called hero betrayed his wife with, that's an insult, almost like a slap in the face. It's like she is telling the wife, yeah even after you left him for sleeping with me, he kept me in his life.I can't even stand when any hero or heroin keep their ex around, like what happened in another book I read, that hero was taking dating tips from his ex wife on how to win the heroine. No thanks.

This subject matter is too sensitive, too emotional to rush, nothing
was resolved between the leads as far as I'm concerned. I can't see a
HEA here, because the problem was never resolved. The slut explained
that her baby wasn't the hero's and she decided to forgive him after she already had sex with him, the adultery was washed under the rug. Very disappointing. If an author is going to use the adultery thing more time needs be put into it.

Finding a good book from this genre is like digging for diamond, you have to dig through a lot of filth to find the price. Here, however, there was only filth. Where do we go with this story, when the main heroine, a black Trinidadian woman, let some pathetic excuse of a man belittle her race, and her background. He called her stupid, ignorance and he was ashamed of her. He put her down in front of his family, and friends. Neela should have left him before he cheated on her. I really hate it when the women are so thankful for men who are mentally, and physically abusive of them. The women on the other hand, are just grateful because all these hot and rich men want them.

It is ok to write about flawed heroes because reality is filled with them, but at least makes the women strong and dignified enough to stand up for themselves. After five years Neela is still a doormat, despite the fact that she has her children to think of now. She still jumps into bed with Caleb like a hormone crazed adolescent, after five years. Before this, the writer fails to establish any form off connection or passion between them. The two leads could have been two strangers throughout the whole book. Caleb was the worst kind of character, he was hateful, and unforgivable. Lori and Caleb should have been together, at least they had chemistry, seeing how he continuously slept with the woman. This was a horrible book.

Lori continued to be an issue between the two of them. He and Lori remained friends and Neela made no attempt to hide her dislike of the other woman.

After every fight he would find himself searching out Lori.

“Maybe my mother was right. Maybe I should have never married you. You don’t fit in.”

“Well maybe you should have married Lori. I’m quite sure your family would have loved that.” She flung at him.
“Maybe I should have. At least she knows what is expected in a wife.” He stepped forward, unable to curb his need to hurt her, verbally lashing out in anger. That shut her up.

Neela hadn’t allowed him close to her in two weeks so it didn’t take very long with the alcohol in his system for him to be fully aroused. Lori looked up from where she was kneeling between his legs, her eyes were clouded with heat.
Screw it! Neela didn’t give a damn about him so why the hell should he refuse what Lori was offering.
Leaning forward he took her lips in his and gave himself up to the desire that engulfed him.

Last night he had been so angry at Neela he didn’t think twice about sleeping with Lori.

Five years ago he had made it quite clear what he thought of her. Would her children suffer the same fate? Would they too, be an embarrassment to him?

Now all he had to do was figure out how the hell he was going to explain about Lori. He had no idea what Neela would do when she found out about the baby.

“Neela, Lori has a son. He’s just six months old. His name is Craig.”
She stiffened. He could see her trying to prepare herself for what she knew was coming next.
“Neela… Craig is my son.” Caleb delivered the final blow. And there in her eyes he could see her heart shatter into a million pieces.

“You bastard! You unfaithful, lying bastard! Don’t you ever say that to me! Don’t ever say you love me.”

I want a divorce. If you want a family you can have it with your whore and your bastard.

“How do you think Lori? I had to tell my wife that I had a six month old son with the same woman I committed adultery with.”

“Caleb, you betrayed me in a way that almost destroyed me. You lied to me, and you kept secrets from me. It took me years to even begin to recover from what you did.”

I didn't like this book at all.
The so called "Hero" and the heroine meet while the Hero is away from home, holiday romance scenario, they know each other for a short time, are from very different backgrounds and get married, then return to the Hero's home.

His parents disapprove and the heroine struggles to fit in with what the Hero expects of his wife, esp in hosting events and impressing business associates.
The Hero, I use this term loosely, is really dislikeable during this time.
He doesn't support his wife when she struggles, he openly flirts with an ex, who he split up from before his trip, and is unreasonable when his wife tries to explain her feelings on the situation esp his ex.
They row, which is totally ridiculous, she says she is unwell and unable to host a party for a big business deal, she has been struggling so making excuses not to do so previously with other events, but this time he shouts at her and is completely unsympathetic.
She hosts it and is violently sick over the business man's wife.
The Hero then shouts at her, tells her he's sorry he married her and it is said that he should have married the ex as she was more suitable.
He then leaves sleeps with the ex, who he had been discussing issues about his marriage with all along. Photos are sent to the wife before he returns home and she leaves.
The photos thing was a bit wierd, how were they taken? How did they get to the wife so fast?
They reunite years later.
The ex is still in the Hero's life and there is a long complicated angsty drama, the Hero leading her to believe he has had a child with the ex but he hasnt etc.

The Hero was celibate during the separation though he made her believe he had a child with the ex for a while and refuses to tell her the truth til the last hour.

Cheating. Emotional throughout their marriage as he is complaining about his relationship to the ex then eventually physical cheating with the ex.

HEA if you choose to believe they can be happy.

A combo of Days of our Lives and Bold and the Beautiful with all its ott theatrics. Classic old style non-pc Mills and Boon-ish version. So much info stuffed in under 300 pages and I don’t feel like I’ve missed a thing. Those authors knew how to write. I miss that.


NUTSHELL:
Part 1:
Great depiction of a whirlwind romance between 2 opposites.
She doesn’t fit in with his life and as much as he cares things go from bad to worse, turns into an impatient abusive asshole who cheats on the h by having once-off sex with his ex on-off lover, Lori.
Someone sends the h pics and she ghosts him for 5 years.

Part 2:
5 years and 10 months later
He hasn’t moved on.
Desperately wishes she would come back to him but he’d given up looking for her.
Their reunion happens by chance when the vehicle he’s driving knocks into hers. She’s badly hurt.
He discovers they have twins and he wants to look after the 3 of them.

I like them together.
She’s feisty and he’s smitten.


BUT:
And this trope pisses me off more than the cheating.
“He hated secrets but this secret was not his to tell. Too many lives would be destroyed….”

“It’s the fact that Caleb doesn’t trust me enough to tell me. He would rather
keep a secret to protect her than to save his marriage.”

“Everything he held dear was hanging in the balance and all he had to do was tell Neela the truth.
He knew without Lori’s permission he would never be able to do that.”

“He couldn’t give Neela what he wanted to, what she deserved - at least not as long as he was bound by his promise to Lori.”

“…the fact that he knows he can lose you and those kids over this
secret but is still keeping his mouth shut says a lot,”


IDIOT:
“…had to tell my wife that I had a six month old son with the same woman I committed adultery with.”

“…see if I get this right. First he tells you he loves you and he wants you back. Then he tells you he has a son with that woman. Next he tells you he hasn’t had sex in five years but now he’s telling
you that the child isn’t his but he wants the world to think he is.”

“Lori’s baby is not yours.”
“Biologically, no. But as far as the world knows, Craig is my son and it has to stay that way.”
“Wait! I don’t understand that. You are not that child’s
father but you want everyone to believe you are. Have you lost your mind?” she
was yelling again, but she couldn’t help it.
“You don’t understand, Neela…”
“Well, help me, Caleb. Help me understand why this is so important to you. You say you love me and you want us to be together, then tell me why you are willing to claim Lori’s bastard. Why was he doing this to them?”

“I can’t,” he surrendered, wiping a hand down his weary
face. “I can’t talk about this anymore.” ”


THE SLIMY OW:
Obsessed with both the H and his father. Gross.

“Twenty-one years ago, when I was sixteen I had an affair with George [hero’s father].”

“I was young and obsessed. When I found out I was pregnant I was terrified, I didn’t know what to do. George wanted me to have an abortion but I couldn’t. Scared as I was I just couldn’t. He was worried about what this baby was going to do to his family…When I refused to have an abortion he had no other choice but to tell his wife [Helen]. That woman played me like a fine tuned instrument. She somehow convinced me that the baby [KC] would be better off with them.” 

“that’s when I became obsessed with Caleb. I thought he would be my chance at having another Wilder child.”

“What I did to you was wrong, but I can’t say I am sorry.”
“I was angry as hell at you. For years, I waited, hoping Caleb would ask me to marry him. When he came back from Trinidad with a bride…with you”


HIS POS FAMILY:
“It’s my fault because I am the one that sent those pictures to Neela,” his father delivered smoothly, not one sign of fear evident in his tone.
“Caleb knew his mother would give him hell about his marriage
but he didn’t expect her to be this bad. ”


THE BIG SECRET:
Just before he decides tell the h the truth, the ow, spurred on by KC, does it:

KC had overheard: “Daddy wanted to tell me about Lori but mama kept refusing. She kept saying that Lori was not my mother.”

“Let’s say I didn’t handle the news well. For a while I went
off the deep end. I started drinking and partying.”

“I woke the next morning, I was naked in bed with a complete stranger.”

“…when I found out I was pregnant…. I went to Caleb. It turned out he didn’t know that mama wasn’t really my mother either.”

“I wanted to give my baby to Lori. “What mama and daddy did to her was wrong…This was my way of making up the past to my real mother.”

Lori:
“I agreed to keep Craig when he was born but on one condition. Caleb had to stand as his father.”
“I wouldn’t allow him to be labeled a bastard.”
“I swore him into secrecy.  To tell you the truth about
Craig’s parentage would have meant dredging up the past, reliving what KC went
through and I wasn’t going to allow that.” Lori finally concluded her speech.”


Long story short, Hxh finally forgives him.
Ow gets no comeuppance.

This book mixes up the “hubs cheats” trope with soapy smut, which isn’t a great combo if you are looking for a serious, emotional, “hubs redeeming himself” book. It honestly reads like an OTT episode of Dynasty.

My issue is that the author took a really serious conflict, but built a soapy plot with overly dramatic characters around it, and the reasons for actions/decisions were so stupid. Justifying things to prevent heart attacks, or upsetting the parents was dumb. It’s hard to feel any emotion when it’s all kind of treated as a joke. I can work with flawed characters, and cheating, but I need some growth and resolution. I didn’t find either MC particularly likeable, and Neela gave him a harder time before the cheating. Caleb’s family were too cartoony bad guys, and when Lori goes to apologize, but then says she wasn’t sorry…totally Alexis-Krystle moment… I was dying for the slap, which didn’t come… sigh

Overall, ok if you are not looking for anything relevant. I love soapy-smut but this one just didn’t work for me. Once the couple is reunited, we are stuck in a holding pattern until all the twist reveals at the end.

I can even forgive Caleb's infidelity at the beginning of his marriage because he was drunk that night. But that he had sex again with the same woman with whom he cheated on Neela in the past and to top it off having had a child with her. I thought it was a little too much for me. But still I kept reading to discover that there was a hidden secret. Something about the birth of that baby. Let's say I was very stunned to learn the truth. I never would have imagined it. The Wilder family had too many hidden secrets.

It takes a really talented author to write about a physically and emotionally abusive cheating Hero, and still make the reader believe he deserves a HEA.


This book had potential, and I think, given time and practice, the author could be really great... But she's not there yet.


The dialog was stilted and unnatural and the thoughts/actions of the characters made no sense. Often times I found myself thinking there was no natural motivation behind thoughts/actions, the author wanted the character to do X, so they did, even if it didnt make any sense to the reader.

All in all, I'd say skip this book.

A Winning Back His Wife is a second chance at love romance.
Hero meets heroine and quickly falls in love and marries her. Drama follows leading to the hero cheating.

The drama had me hooked. I wanted to see how the heroine reacted to it. That worked.
What didn't work was the lack of heroine point of view. I didn't feel that romantic connection between the hero and heroine. His thoughts weren't enough to make the instalove believable.

Because the hero cheated I read on to see if the HEA was possible. The author did a good job of showing the hero being a changed man. His groveling lasted a good amount and was very convincing.

What I liked: I liked how Garvin kissed Neely(h) to make Caleb(H) mad and how she told Caleb off, her bits and pieces of anger towards him made the book better. I also liked that Caleb didn’t have sex with anyone the 5 years they were separated.


What I didn’t like: I thought Caleb was an idiot especially the way he treated Neely and I wished she would have made him grovel and beg a lot more (I didn’t feel the love for Neely since he was still putting the ex and his family feelings before his wife’s feelings all the way until the end of the book). No promise should come before his wife especially when he says it kills him to see her hurt but hurts her anyway when he lies about the baby.

How hot was it: 2 out 5

Triggers: Cheating. H and h meet while he was on vacation and shortly get married. When he brings her back their marriage takes a turn for the worst. His mother doesn’t like her and an ex girlfriend comes back in his life. H belittles h, confides to ex about the h and one time he grabs her so hard he leaves bruises. One night after h gets sick on one of his clients he goes to the ex’s to talk. He ends up getting drunk and having sex with ex. H’s father sends pictures to h and she leaves him (h is pregnant with twins) They meet back up 5 years later because of a car accident (which he lies and tells the h that he is the father of a 6 months old with ex) h goes out on a date with om and kisses him.

Final thoughts: This was an ok book for me. I think it would of been so much better if she made him work more for her forgiveness. Yeah she would yell at him or ignore him at times but afterwards she would be thinking how hot he was.

I was able to accept this story because the writer did a great job of letting the audience know what motivated the characters, and I think that's important in helping readers not become frustrated with characters. I think it was a good plot but I do wish everything didn't happen so fast...but I guess that would call for a longer story....Overall, I enjoyed it.

Hmm when the story started I wondered what Caleb did to cause his wife to leave him and keep their child from him. Then I got to the flashbacks to when they met and was oohing and aahing. My only pause was when he spazzed out the Saturday she didn’t want to hang with him.

Anyway he teased his friend about falling in love yet got married in weeks and went back to US.

That is when he became a fuckboy. So he stood up to his my for his wife and marriage then turned around and abused her at the dinner party. He is mad bc she was mad that some broad was up in his face. At that moment I stopped rooting for him but committed to finishing the book.

After the guests leaves he starts on her again. He gets mad she calls that whore Lori a whore. He rushes to defend the whore. Had to stop himself from slapping Neela and calls her a bitch!! Oh no he can fuck all the way off. At this point I’m thinking it will take a miracle to get me to like his ass and I still have 2/3 of the book left which I’m sure I’ll hate him throughout.

“THEIR MARRIAGE ONLY seemed to deteriorate after that..... Her interrogations would piss him off and they always led to verbal wrestling matches that lasted for hours.” Neela baby what you doing? Hop on a flight back to Trinidad. You don’t need this bs. This fool continues to run to Lori with his marriage problems even tho most of the arguments have to do with Lori. And I thought he was supposed to be a smart guy.

His wife is sick during a dinner that he demanded she host. He now believes she’s sick (bc he earlier accused her of faking to get out of her duties of playing hostess) but instead of getting her to the hospital, he hopes she makes it through dinner. Dafuq. So his wife is sick and instead of dealing with it, he doesn’t bc the client is talking to him. She gets sick on the clients wife and they leave and this is Caleb’s response “If I lose this deal...It’s all Neela’s fault! There’d be hell to pay!” I’m sorry I’m supposed to root for this asshole. Bruh. I’m laughing at how much of a douche he is.

Oh the pig runs to Lori right on cue and blames the alcohol and Neela’s rejection over the past few weeks for him being a cheating bastard. Typical.

He used his dad hospitalization as a reason he didn’t go look for his potential pregnant wife, who left him after getting evidence of his affair. Most likely from the whore herself. In those six month, his sisters couldn’t hold down the fort. Nah Neela was never a priority.

Yes Kaylee. Box him backside. “I’ve been waiting five years to that, you bastard” - a true friend. I stan already.

Confusing part, Caleb says now he’s a father. But later in the chapter it is revealed that he had a kid with the whore.**

This fool looked in her face and said ” I looked for you for six months after you left, but I couldn’t find you. Where did you go?” Six months. Not that he looked for her for 6 months but he didn’t start looking until after 6 months. Is he serious right now?

I’m not gonna lie I’m annoyed that Neela is lusting after Caleb. Here I am calling him everything but a child of god and she’s letting some sweet words and a nice body cloud her judgement. Ain’t no one that damn fine. And even if they were, with what he did to her should make him ugly af.

Neela’s question to herself “Was she a complete and utter moron?” My response, yes, yes you are. Ugh she just bust those legs open for him, he didn’t go through with it bc his baby mama aka he whore whom he has a six month old son with called. At least he told her before he smashed. I don’t even feel sorry for her anymore. I’m too irritated.

She went ape shit on him but at this point I just laugh. Then he says why can’t Lori just disappear, like he ain’t the one he continues to sleep with her. I can’t...

**Ok so Craig may not be his. Well Caleb is a goofy for keeping that lie going. 1. He intentionally hurt his wife with a lie to keep a secret for the whore. 2. He’s keeping secrets with the whore to begin with. From his wife whom he’s trying to win back. What an idiot.

Oh word pops did that. So that makes both of Caleb’s parents trash. Wow I’m truly disgusted. Caleb’s father committed statutory rape and Neela is calling the child a home wrecking slut. I’m too through with her too.

So in the end Caleb got his girl. Neela got her man. And I didn’t give a rats ass about either.

Even though I hated the mc, this was a well written story with twists I didn’t anticipate.

I'm a sucker for second chance romance, so I took the chance on this book and glad I DID!

This is my first read from this author and I liked the story very much! Yes, there were few typing errors and unbelievable situations but that didn't dampened how I feel about this book!

The author did a great job with the main characters.. Neela was a little doormat but eventually became a strong, kick ass independent heroine! I also liked Caleb despite all the shitty things he did specially when he cheated! grrrrr! I hated, hated him for that! He was stupid and I wanted to smack the hell out of him! lol

The ending was a little abrupt. It was like everything was bundled and resolved too fast but overall this is a good read and I will be keeping tabs on A.B. Ewing's book.

A great read!

Caleb was selfish domineering male that eventually chased his wife Neela away. Caleb made a big mistake that caused Neela to walk out on him. Five years later, their paths cross again when Neela is involved in a car accident and her precious secret is revealed. But Caleb is keeping secrets too that could ruin his second chance he desperately wants with his wife. This story is mesmerizing. You would enjoy Neela new personality , she takes no prisoners, let's just say she is not the submissive type. This story will have you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions concerning g these characters. I highly recommend this book.

Good read, short and to the point. This story got right down to it from the very first page. There was no long drawn out explanation about what was going to happen, everything just happened and it was seamless. Neela and Caleb really had a special and pure kind of love. With all the mess they had to endure they persevered and came out on top. The big reveal at the end was unexpected and I actually would like to see how this whole story will end. I hope a sequel is in the works.

This is how much he loves his wife.

What happens in a few months when he doesn't feel appreciated again?

We didn't resolve that.

And so what if he was faithful to her after he cheated?

What a narcissistic family where those kids are going to suffer.

Already is Craig being treated differently for some bizarre reason.

And Neela blames Lori for Calebs arousal.

And ahem, women have higher sex drives than men.

Its evident in our shorter refactory periods.

The Patriarchy just convinced you men needed it more for some reason?

But yes, apparently having no sex for two weeks discounts that Alcohol is a Sedative.

A literal sedative.

A depressant.

As in, its not a cause of arousal.

Its called Alcohol Dick for a reason, the worst dick for sex.

This book was a bit of a hot mess. H was a controlling prick who physically and emotionally abused his wife. I understand that it’s hard to write a strong female lead; (apparently, since so many are typically doormats or cartoonish), but I had high hopes for Neela at first, especially when she insulted the racist woman at the first party, lol. My high hopes quickly faded away, though, as she displayed herself to actually be rather spineless.

Now, let’s discuss the idea of H having a sexual relationship with the woman who had been sleeping with his father, and who was the mother to his sister. This absolutely gave me all the icks. And his mother encouraging Lori to continue attending family functions and being ok with her being around all the time was weird. Aaannnddd, H’s lecherous old father having sexual photos of his former teenaged fling and his son taken, and sending them to Neela was crazy. The best thing Neela could’ve done after all these revelations was to take those babies and disappear again.

The story had a lot of potential, but it needs a good editing and a final draft that tones down the overblown crazy. I’d love to see a revised version, because I am a sucker for cheating, angst and grovel tropes.

Yeah, na. Not for me.

I hate leaving any negative review but I just couldn't connect with any of the characters in this book. The H was a story excuse for a man and the h was so immature it hated. The being of the book held such promise but as sin as the going got tough well everything just fell apart. Not to give to much away the H was a totally spoilt mamas boy whose immaturity left him making some seriously questionable life choices which he initially took no responsibility for and the h pretty much let him get away with it instead of cobber him and talking like adults that both acted like very young teenagers. This book was just not for me and I found myself skipping while sections of the book hoping things would get better instead we had some drama and the more drama and fondant some unbelievable drama. I don't want to docos this writer instead please get someone to proof your work and give some honest feedback. The book had potential it just failed to live up to it for me.

This is a cheating book so ultimately the H is an ass and doesn’t deserve forgiveness however while not justifiable I think the cheating made sense and was somewhat expected in this story:

- Caleb was attracted to Neela’s beauty and they had a whirlwind romance in Trinidad resulting in marriage and immediately moved to the states. It seemed they truly didn’t know each since they didn’t discuss important things like their expectations in the marriage with is the cause of their conflict.
- I still hated the cheating but since I felt like they didn’t know each other and were only married for 4 months it didn’t make me as angry as some other books.
- What made me uncomfortable was Caleb’s temper I felt like he was too violent and definitely needed to check his behaviour.
- This book did have something rare in it and that was the H was celibate during the separation which is revealed through some soap opera twists at the end.

Read this in 2013, read it again in 2025 It’s a really great read

I am so sorry, this is my favorite I just realized I did not leave a review. This is my second time reading this, I read it the first time it came out. You can not imagine what I had to go through to find this story in my catalog. I couldn’t remember the name just how the story went, I really wanted to read it again because this is a beautiful romantic story. Caleb messing up his marriage, and Neela leaving him and pregnant. Five yrs later seeing her again only because he witnessed a car accident and by him running over to help, it’s his wife & daughter in the car. When I say this story makes you smile because of the love these two have for each other. This is one of those story makes you feel really good for reading it.

Whoa!!!

I found this book on a Facebook group, and tried it. I'm glad I did. I loved the beginning and where it was going. I loved Neela and how strong she was. From tolerating every single snobby comment to Caleb and his being an ass. Then finally the big blow to her heart. To come back and learn to be strong enough for her family. Caleb put everyone before his wife and because he did he lost her. He learned from his mistakes but makes different ones. Ugh... It was a major hot mess towards the end and kinda creepy.

Great Story!

I enjoyed the book and the drama. I also couldn't believe the reasons for the drama and it was just as I predicted. Lol! Neela is a strong woman and to deal with that mess was a determined woman. I give her props because that would be too much for some people. But it was good and I'm happy Caleb suffered and stewed in his mistakes. But I also happy that he became a better person. It sucks that it went to him messing up that made him change but as the saying goes. "You made your bed so now sleep in it". Something like that I guess. But it was a good book.

A car accident brings heroine back into Hero's world.
