The first of the Alexander Scott Novel series. He considers himself fortunate to have had numerous overseas deployments that took him to many varied locations throughout the world, including: Germany, Cyprus, Croatia, Sierra Leone, Bosnia, Egypt, Israel and finally two tours of Afghanistan. Wanting to try something new, he now spends his time writing.
Some of Richard's favourite authors include: James Rollins, Andy McDermmott and the many novels of Clive Cussler.
This is the second Richard Turner novel I've read, and it didn't disappoint; it was go, go, go from page 1 to the end of the book. He is gifted writing action. Turner did a great job of writing his main character, Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Scott, and making him likeable. I'm glad this is the first in a series--I'll read more of them.
Scott is assigned a special "secret"mission, to cross the Atlantic and find and return to America, a missing Professor who disappeared in what appears to be foul play. The professor's daughter winds up on the same ship crossing the Atlantic, and soon Scott has taken her under his protection, and a romance develops.
The mission is secret to everyone except the members of a secret society who have people after Scott and the professor's daughter even before they reach European shores.
The story had an action packed, wise-guy, Indiana Jones feel to it, and it was full of supporting characters that were really characters!
The glimpses into the Civil War era were interesting--even though most of it took place in Europe.
It's a page turner! If you're looking for action/adventure, I recommend..
